I am confused.

Temp is halfway and thermostat is not opening - how do you know that ?

If the hose is collapsed and doesn´t go back to it´s original form you will have to replace it.

I suspect the radiator cap - either wrong one or defect.

I read it could be the cap. I will replace. Temp is half way the bottom hose is still cold, it's very cold here in Michigan, no plates or insurance on it so I can't drive on road. Thx for the reply

The top hose is hot.

Coolant runs through radiator - comes out at the bottom.

Bottom hose should be luke warm or nearly cold depending on outside temperature - so OK.
