Hey guys, i've got an 87 montero 4x4 and the skid plats on it an my engine are covered in oil. howeer, when I check my oil, it's always just fine nothn on the ground but maybe a drop or two tops. I'm gonna degrease ad plean my engine and skid plates to see where exactly it's coming from but i was wondering if anyone had any advice as to where to keep my eye on inparticular, or if there are any seals that bust easily. Thanks.

PS. what kind of oil should I use on it? I checked the manual but it wasn't that big of a help, and what kind of oil filter is best?

My 90 had/has the same issue, I pulled a redneck move one day cleaned all my grease up, sanded my metal and covered all the areas around the gaskets with some extra silicone sealer. stopped the issue for the most part. Little bit of leak every now and then.

Castrol GTX High Mileage works great in our older beasts. It helps with burn off as our truck seals aren't known for being the greatest, especially after over 2 decades.

I do recommend if you follow my idea do the same for your differentials, the add a gasket comes off easily if their is a need for repair but works wonderfully.

Good Luck

My 97 (with 227K) has a leaking problem too...from the rears of the valve cover gaskets. Nothing too big, but messy never the less.

so I cleaned EVERYTHING and I do have a small leak, only I can't really see where it's coming from cause my skid plates are in the way, good thing, but bad thing haha. I'm just hoping it's not a head gasket =/
