Thumbs down 2002 l300 no power and rough idle

Hi, I have a Mitsubishi l300 2002 model and just recently it has developed a problem with power. It idles rough and when on road it has no acceleration and is using a lot of fuel. found out that if I remove the air cleaner it idles and revs good and the power problem is solved. At first I thought there was something restricting the air but all vents to the air cleaner is clean and I have also installed a new air cleaner, fuel filter,. The carburettor has been re built as well with no luck in resolving the problem. I have also checked the catalytic converter and it all seems to be fine. The carby has about 7 wire plug on it with two wires that enter the carby. Is there anyone out there that can shed some light to resolve this issue. Thanks
