if i take my ac out

So last week i had my timing belt and water pump replaced. Immediatly after i noticed that the car idles different when i come to a stop. It bounces around 500 to 750 rpms and makes the car rumble a little. Today i was reversing out of a parking space and the car gradually stalled and then almost did again when i came to a stop. what could this be?

My eclipse has the long intake that comes out under the bumper area and i hit a big puddle when it was raining bad.
The car for sure died out.
It started back up after like 30 seconds of cranking and it ran fine and everything.
After this happened the check engine light came on and if i am in drive at a stop light waiting for too long the rpms start dropping and the car wants to die out.
THe check engine light flashes.
If i give it a little tap on the gas the rpms go back up and its all fine.
The car seems to run fine other than that but it gets really annoying when you sitting there and it starts sputtering out.
i dont know if the alternator is finally going because when i have the turn signal on the check engine light dims and im subs in the back make the headlights look like strobes.
so im not sure if i messed something up or its electrical.
Any ideas on what this could be and how to fix it?

i have a 97 rs and i need to know where the paint code is. I have to repaint my front bumper, and napa needs that code, and they cant take the vin number. Also would there be a cheaper place to buy paint for that?? i am going to use a paint gun so it doesnt need to be in the spray paint cans.

Alright so, after 3 days of no one replying to my post I had listed, I realized why: I'm an idiot. I've done some research on my own and asked around a bit, and come to my own conclusions and learned some things. So in a way, thanks for ignoring me? lol idk what to say to that really.

The only question I really have now, is why shouldn't I get a header if I'm going turbo? I'll give you the run down on what I'm doing now, (my thoughts have changed dramatically since my first post, and I sounded like an idiot most of the time).

As for the engine mods, I'm getting the Wiseco low compression pistons, ARP head studs (do I need main studs too?), Eagle H-Beam rods, (was going to get cometic metal head gasket but won't till you tell me if I even should), and the kit I listed includes pretty much everything else (fuel pump, injectors, intercooler, down pipe, manifold, etc.).

So I have two main questions: is this a good kit, and why do I/do I not need a header?

A guy I know got a 98' RS for $500 and it came from a repo company. How would someone get in touch with a repo company or find a repoed car? Or is craigslist a better bet? I really just need a car with a transmission in it.

98 eclipse rs, i know there is an audio forum but you guys are like family to me..ha. anyways i just bought a jvc head unit and got it installed for free. i also ebayed a jl 300/4 amp, a jl 60 watt rms component system, and infinity 3 way 75 rms speakers.

my main question is about the tweeters. i noticed there are small circular area for speakers (i think) at the front of the winshield on the dash area. is that intended for tweeters...and if not, where would a good place be for the tweeters.

i have no experience installing this stuff, my friend thinks he does but i feel like i should just pay someone.

So I have a 97' Eclipse RS non-turbo.
Automatic trans and I was told the trans casing was cracked.
Now I am looking to replace the trans. I know a manual is much more fun and even gets better gas milage. From what I was told from the few salvage yards I called, a manual trans is gonna cost about $50 more with 50k more miles on it. An automatic trans would cost around $450-$500 with about 62k-75k miles.
Is the manual trans worth getting with that many miles or should I keep looking around?
Also, about how much would I be looking to pay to convert my car to a manual 5 speed?

So, apparently the 3000GT NT front calipers are a drop-in install on my 2G GS.
The question is, what am I going to need extra?
Will I have to use the 3000GT pads and rotors? Or can I use the stock GS rotors?
Will the lines connect, or do I need to use 3000GT lines?
Stainless steel lines, from what I have read are a big thing to use, but is it REQUIRED, right now?
Also, will the 3000GT rears bolt up?

ok so i got my car checked at autozone and they said it was most likely a loose gas cap....so i replaced the gas cap...unplugged battery for a while. the check engine light turned off. and about 24 hours later came back on. ideas? i have a feeling im gonna have to have a smoke test to diagnose it..

hi guys, i was looking for some information on the board about swaybar and haven't find anything that i want so here some question :
1-bigger front sway bar are better, but how big should i get???
2- what kit is better (swaybar, endlink, bushing)
3- same question but for the rear swaybar
4- do we have a DIY ??

ok i just got this car a week ago. the guy said he thought it had a swap and cams put in it. it ran great then the other night, i was messing around and i spun the tires in first gear and i think i put into limp mode. it ran like crap till i got it home. now it runs good but backfires everyonce in awhile. any ideas what to check? thanks

On the 240A non turbo motor, where is the oil sensor located. I can't seem to find it in any of the manuals that I have. It looks like it could be located under the alternator? I am doing a rebuild and uhhh...forgot where it went.

Ok, so I bought a header a while back for my RS, and it is a 4 pipe into 1. Now I have been researching and noticed that most people get 4 to 2 to 1 header. What are the differences? Like I know about the difference on V8's between long and short tube headers. Is this like the same concept?

I just bought a 97 gs not too long ago, about 3 months ago so when i first got the car the power steering was screaming like a 6 year old on a roller coaster.. i got that fixed and it must be that screaming drowned out the 'other' noise which was the rapping noise when i chopped the throttle, under load the rattling got quiter, and muffled, but when i released the throttle it rapped loud as hell. Ok... so i thought rod bearings, i switched those out and notice ALOT of side to side play, and a little bit of up and down, i put the new ones in and no more up and down.. but still a lot of side to side.. i put everything abck together and it dosent rap quite as loud but im thinking since there's still side to side that i need a new crank? how much would that be to put in since i've never done it before.

or should i do it myself? thanks for any help

Hi. I have a question about a 98 eagle talon 420a. I hope to get the right answer by explaining what all mods i have first, but before i do ill say what brings me to the question, i bought this car and it had a huge knock and was not holding an idle...i got the car tore it apart and the pistons were je 8:1 with like 3000 miles on them and they were straight up trashed with chunks missing from the top and grooves in the cylinder walls....


to start with mods
- stage 4 cams with ignition box and a remote retarder, apexi safc II with software update not to sure what was updated??, autometer air fuel gauge, hahn racecraft 16g turbo with front mount piece, i bought a used block took it to a machine shop and had them bore it out .20 over with wiesco pistons and eagle rods, acl main and rod bearings, they pressure checked everything but i havent even put it in yet... i got a new oil pump and a stage II clutch and timing belt kit from ci motorsports inc. but im waiting on it to get to my house but i just wanted to see if anything special i should do before i start this car......it is way outta tune on the afc and cam adjuster and im sure theres more than just that.....i hear to run reg oil so the rings seat but how long should it idle, when should i change the oil...etc etc.. anything else you wanna add or i need to kno?



also my damn intercooler pipes are literally sitting on the ground is that the way the 420as setup or is there another front piece with piping i should run

I currently have an automatic and I am working on switching to a manual.

I'm planning on buying a new muffler tomorrow just for the sound, and possibly (hopefully) to reduce the back pressure a bit.

I need a few suggestions, and no, I am not willing to spend any more than $40 on this.

I am mostly interested in the inexpensive ones I've heard about and I wonder if they sound any good on the car. If anyone can give some feedback that'd be great.

So, to sum this all up, I'm looking for suggestions, on which kind of mufflers sound good that I can purchase at AUTOZONE (not the internet).

Do glasspack mufflers sound good on the Eclipse?
How about Cherrybomb?
Flowtech?
Hooker Headers?

PS - This one question didn't deserve a new topic, but are high flow cat's off eBay any good? Are they legal?

I have read one of you guys intalled a freeflow cat and lost some bottom end but my concern is what did it do for the mid to top end?

Just need to find out what bolt-on can I do to make up for the lost of bottom end. Any ideas will be duly noted

I have a 99 GS Eclipse 10th anniversary edition and i The only mod right now is a 2" exhaust and a headunit. I am looking to get spyder auto header, the projector headlights (clear and blue) altezza tailights, B&M Short shifter, and the spyder auto CAI. I am just looking to get some small mods to add some power and make it look a little better. i already have to repaint the whole car cause someone keyed it real bad on the passenger side and there was some curb damage on the bumpers (no dents just traded paint). I would appreciate knowing any down falls for these mods and or companies. My friend had a 98 GS Spyder and used spyder auto with no problem but he could have just gotten lucky.

i have a 97 eclipse gs 5 speed i want to do alot of work to it. its my new project car and i know alot about the 4g63 but not alot about the 420a. i want to sleev it forged crank, bigger cam shaft, bigger injectors, port and polish the head, new intake, and anything else that you can think of that i might need for a turbo set up. prices and web sites would be great. thanks for the help.

Hey, I'm looking for the cheapest, yet most effective way to upgrade my eclipse for more WHP. I'm not saying I want the most effective thing out there, obviously. Just something that runs max about 3 or 4 grand, something that I can work up to.

I know absolutely NOTHING about cars. I've read about swapping out some pistons and whatnot, it's a cheap solution for over 500hp, but that's in Hondas. Here's what I'm talking about:
I can make 500hp with a D series for less money than the b16 alone. Vitara pistons and tuner toy rods in a d16z6(better oil pump than y8) spend like 500$ on the ebay rod piston combo and then run 25 psi and get a tune on eCtune

This topic might seem like a bunch of nonsense slapped together, but that's only because as I've said before, I don't know what I'm talking about. I just want more power out of my car for less money. Around 400hp would be nice. More, I'm sure costs quite a bit.

Lately I've noticed that my car has not been illuminating the interior when I open the door anymore. VERY RARELY it will on occasion, but it never does when I need it to. Also, it no longer beeps to tell me the door's open while the key is in the ignition, nor does it beep to tell me my lights are on.

I really don't think it's a blown fuse but then again I haven't checked either. I think it's a relay, because I can still manually turn on the rear view mirror lights.

Any suggestions? (97 Eclipse GS)

I was on E, but no Low gas light came on or check engine... it wont go into acc for the radio which makes me think its something more... because you dont need the engine running for ACC... the negative cable is loose but I still have lights and sounds for the car, plus I was driving it when it died, so the alternator would have kept it alive..


is this because I was low on gas or something more?

i hit a pretty big puddle today and mow i think my wires are wet if i try to punch like to pass my car sputters any way to fix it

Hello everyone im new to this website and was having an issue with my eclipse its a 1995 rs.

Just today it started dying at stoplights or when slowing down, then laggin when accelerating...could this be a clogged fuel filter?, plugs/wires are new just changed oil.

Yo wasup I have a 96 eclipse rs with a sunroof. .I just bought the car like a month ago. Works great but the sunroof don't work I took it apart and saw that the wiring harneses r not there from the big one that has the power also the one that goes to the motor is cut off so I need a wiring diagram a bought a haynes manual and it has no info on that can someone please help

My dad is trying to help with my car and there is a topic on here about someones car surging out. If you watch the video my car does the same exact thing. I told my dad to check the ECU and maybe the CAS and he would like for me to ask what the heck those parts are!! HELP ME PLEASE!!!
