well i've decided to go turbo with my 98' GS. i'm getting the Hahn stage 2 (run about 8 pounds of boost). After the turbo, exhaust, fuel pump and injectors i'll be down to enough money for 1 tank of premium gas (which should last me all of about an hour

) Well anyway, wish me luck...i'll let you know how it all turns out!!!!

Hi I really need some answers really fast or im going to sell my car. I have a 95 eclipse rs ive replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, and ignition sitch and the problem still persists what happens is it completely dies going down the road and wont start for 2+ hours. when the car normally starts up i have the check engine light come on then go off after i start the car. After it dies out when i try to start it i have no check engine light and it just keeps on turning over just not starting.
i really need answers fast because i like my car alot but i cant a car that dies on me going down the road if i cant find the problem by the end of this week im selling it cuz i need transportation to get to work.
If any other info is needed call me or leave a reply here THX AGIAN I APPRECIATE ANY HELP! 520 304-1691 --Sean

I read most of the last discussion about 420A rebuild vs. 4g63 swap and im having some concerns myself. I ran my 420A tight, yeah embarrassing, I found a used motor for 1300 w/ 46,000 miles and i want to check out my current block and internals,possibly rebuilding it. I'm only 18 and have only experience working on GM cars/trucks. i'm goin to school for auto maintenance so i have access to ALLDATA(no data) haha and scan tools, hoists, etc. I am sort of on a small budget too. I was just wondering if any of u experienced mitsu enthusiasts have any input to give me on building up either of the two motors and which route is better for cost per horsepower type of thing

I have a 420a with 180,000 miles on it and just swapted it with another 420a with 35,000 miles but I have run into a problem when I turm the key the starter clicks and it is not spining the flywheel it seams like the starter is not touching the flywheel can someone give me some advice i'm runing out of ideas and getting mad so please help out.

Ok, so I have a 96 eclipse RS, with the 2.0L engine, basically the crap of the crap, but anyways, I am wondering whether or not the timing belt can destroy the engine. I have heard from a few mechanics that if it breaks, it destroys the engine. But since I am a girl, you never know if they are feeding you BS or if it really is the truth. My car has almost 95,000 miles on it, so obviously it is around the time you would do it at, but I just wanted to see what the deal was. If you could help me it would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Im Dustin from Louisiana. I should be getting a 1996 Eclipse RS soon. It has minor front end damage (front bumper cover, hood, fans, radiator) from the previous owner rear ending someone at low speed. This works out for me beacuse I want to put a wide body kit on it anyways.
Since I am new to Eclipses I am assuming this car has the 420A non turbo'ed engine. I will be saving up to put a turbo kit on it ASAP. I also plan on putting
ECU+. These arent ALL the mods I want to do, but they are the major ones.
What I am wondering is does anyone have any personal first hand experience with any of the turbo kits for this engine? If so, what are the pros and cons of each brand? How hard are they to install (My grandfather has a automotive repair shop) so tools wont be hard to come by. Should I upgrade the internals before I turbo it? Etc..
Also, anyone here have first hand experience with the wide body kits offered for this car? What are the better brands? Which ones should I stay away from? Whatever kit I end up getting will be professionally installed and molded into the body.
And one last question. How good is the ECU+ program. Will it work with an aftermarket turbo kit without many problems?

I bought a beautiful '99 Eclipse GS yesterday and have no experience with Mitsubishi products.
What I'm trying to figure out is this...
The car has 77K miles and I have no service records from the previous owner 'cuz I bought it from a dealer...
I went to my Japanese mechanic today to ask about timing belt replacement intervals. He looked it up in a book and it said 60K. Then he looked something up on his computer and said it recommended replacement at 100K. His best advice was to replace it (along with water pump, seals, etc.) somewhere before 90K. I would think that that is pretty good advice, him being a Japanese mechanic and all...
What would you'all suggest as a correct interval for timing belt (and all the related stuff) replacement? I don't mind spending the money for a quality service (no, I can't do this myself) but would rather not, because I just spent $10,000 yesterday that I did not plan on spending the day before. And that sucks.
It's really the next 10K miles that I'm worried about.

Seeing as the car has 77K, and as I don't anticipate putting that many miles on it, the difference between 60K and 100K is actually a significant number to me,
Any opinions and/or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, am new to the forums and just came here cause i was searching for a FSM(factory service manual) for the 420a engine found in the 95 mitsubishi eclipse RS, but i couldn't find 1 so am just gonna ask here.
i need the torque in ft/lb of the bolts that go from the head to the block, the 1's for the cams and whatever else needs to be torqued.(the engine is a 420a that is getting rebuilt because the valve stem seals were leaking and so was the headgasket, the head has been checked for warpage and am replacing most of the other gaskets along with the auto transmission gasket)

Alright teh situation is im looking for a car for my sister and she likes the body of eclipse and all and since teh eagle is very close but cheaper (around here) we were looking at them.
well we found one thats cheap that is automatic awd turbo, but my parents dont want her to have a turbo. and since i want a turbo is it possible to switch my parts out to her car and take her turbo parts and put it on my car.
AUTO AWD TURBO to a 5SPD FWD N/T is it possible and if so what parts need to be taken out (stuff other that the turbo parts itself ie: ecu ......)

alright i lost the owners manual to my 98 RS, i cant remember how to change the serp. belt the right way. I know it seems easy enough but i dont wanna screw anything up because i failed to tensioin the belt properly or something to that affect, any help would be very valuable

I need an altenator for my 1995 Eclipse GS.
My friend has an 88 and an 89 toyota supra. he said he'd give me the alternator from one of the them if it would work in my eclipse.
does anyone have a list of car models with compatible alternators?
or does anyone know if the alternator from either one of the surpas would work with it?

i just bought a 1995 Eclipse RS for $500 but the guy that i bought it from said i should get a new clutch...so i was wondering if anyone knows a reliable site that sells clutchs. i dont think i can afford those really nice upgraded ones im mostly looking for somethin near stock so i can drive it. i want to fix it at my school because i have auto tech 2 and we are allowed to take our cars in a fix them...so i wanted to get some experience on working on my car u know? well if u can give me some advice or some sites i would really appreciate...thanks for ur time have a great day!

) Anyway, making an N/T into a Turbo can be kind of spendy and i spent most of my $$$ buying the car itself. Anyone know any good ($300-$1000) mods to do in prep for the turbo?
p.s.
It's a 5 speed manual....if that makes a difference

I am looking to upgrade what appears to be factory rims and tires in the near future on my 99 Eclipse RS, and would like to get them a bit larger. What are the largest tire/rim sizes I am able to use with my RS? The owner's manual shows the different Eclipse models (RS, GS, GST, etc.) and different tire/rim sizes but doesn't tell me which size correspond with each model. I asked around a little and they said the RS may only be able to use the 14 or 14.5 inch rims...meh!
Any ideas?

Hello guys I'm new to this forum and wanted to introduce myself....my name is Richard and recently a little over a month ago purchased a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse mainly for my son when he turns 16 next yr. Well I'm having a little bit of a problem and a mystery....let me explain last week left the car at a relatives house going out of town and when returned the car wouldn't crank. Well jump the car crank fine my wife went out to drive it to work this morning and not only wouldn't it crank but after jumping it it started but the air conditioning wasn't working. Does anyone have any ideas what could have caused the not starting and then when jumped the air conditioning not working??One other thing do I have to contact Mitsubishi to get the code for the radio when the car went dead the radio needs code to work?? Thanks in advance for any help guys!!

Turbo or not to turbo, that is the question.......
Yeah so i'm wondering let's say i choose to stay n/t in my 98' GS. What kind of mods can i do to it and what is the most HP i can expect? In all reality all i really want to do is put the rice boys around here to shame. All the kids here just get body kits and big old cherry bomb mufflers and that's about it. So they look "cool" *cough* bulls#!t *cough* but they don't do much speed wise.
I really just want to blow their doors off and help them to realize that $500 of exterior plastic doesn't make you "Fast and the Furious"

p.s.
My GS is manual trans.

I'm not sure what is going on here, i'm a newb to all this but more often than not when i go from a stop light/stop sign first gear kind of sputters like the engine is bogging out, then it will suddenly catch and take off like a freakin' rocket.....any ideas?

Hello!!! I'm new to this form and new to driving Mitsubishi Cars.. I will be getting a 97' Manule Mitsubishi Eclipse RS in a few days.. So i dont have any Photos to Supply right this moment... I hope i put this in the right area. Anyways, on to the question...
I've been searching around on the internet for parts that i can put on the car to Enhance the Handling and speed.
I have about $500.00 - $600.00 Dollars a month to spend. So i was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on parts that are within that price range.. That would obvioulsy have good outcome on the cars Handling and Speed Performence.
Any input would be much appriciated...
Also, Once I get a good idea of what parts i can get, i was wondering, is there a certain order that the parts should be installed? To prevent un-needed strain or damage to the car.

ok, so i own a 95 eclipse RS with a automatic tranny that is dying. my original plan was to find a wrecked eclipse with a 5 speed and swap it with my automatic. the price quote was like $1800. i found a 97 eclipse gs for sale for $1000 that has a blown motor, so in was thinking that instead of swapping the tranny INTO my 95, i would just take the 420a from the 95 and put it into the 97. how easy is it to swap the engine instead of the tranny? also some of the parts on the 97 like the hood and interior could do with some work. most of the parts from the RS will fit the GS, but if anyone can think of anything that wont, let me know. Also, if you are interested in any of the parts from the 95 just drop me a line as i probably wont be able to sell the RS. thanks

hey i was wondering what u people think about turboing my 97 talon with the 420a motor. i recently brought it to the stip and i ran 15.6 at 90mph with stock motor. iam purchasing parts for a trubo kit now and i have read i can run 8-12 psi on stock internals im gunna run 8 for now. iam also going to put a high performance head gasket on it , ofcourse. iam also going to port and polish the head while its out. what do u guys this any sugestions or anything??

hay guys i just bought a 99 eclipse and the 420a make like 140hp and i want to get the hp to 160-200. what could i start with to bump the hp,i cant do a turbo swap and i cant aford 400 a month 4 ins. on the turbo so what mods to start with cheap one first....

first of im looking at a 99 eclipse rs and a 88 RX-7 (non turbo)
i was wondering which would be the better choice (please dont be biased because this is a mitsu forum) i can get the rx-7 for 1300 and only 88k original miles or i can trade my 96 nissan maxima gxe and bout 1000 bucks for the eclipse.....what should i do....any info would be appreciated.....thanks in advance

I have a overhauled 420a engine in my 97 gs eclipse. It has 10k on a overhual. The motor seems to be consuming oil. It is not leaking cause there is no evidence off oil underneath the rig. I have followed the vehicle while driving and it does not smoke. What the heck is going on? I run 20-50 in it non-synthetic. Should I switch oil? Does anyone else have this problem?
P.S the car gets 32mpg and has alot of power

OK honestly i have always been into hondas and well i learned everything about them, until i saw my car. i fell in love with the eclipse and had no idea about the different types. i got the gs and from what im told its the fastest of the just stock eclipses that most people got. n e wayz well my car had way to much mileage so i took it to my usual mechanic and had him put a newer motor. the motor only has 62 k miles and i expected it to be much quicker cuz being a 96 with that mileage its pretty new. for some reason when i get off of first and in second the car is really slow. once it picks up to third and fourth gear it speeds up and gets pretty fast, but for some reason when im starting its mad slow. im really pissed off about that cuz i expected it to be a little faster. my friend said that it could be a number of things, like they put an automtic motor in my car or that they put an rs motor in my car which he said is the slowest type of eclipse i personally dont know much about the different types of motors i just want to know why my car is picking up so slow. is it possible that they could have done that? would that really affect the speed of the car? would an rs motor on my car make it as slow as im told the rs are????

I have an eclipse rs shell in 100% mint condition. I was wondering where I could purchase an eclipse 420a block (i already have a tranny), or is there another way to swap a different motor without much problem. This is the first mitsubishi ive had, ive done honda swaps in the past. Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ! - Jon

I recently purchased a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS last Friday, and noticed the previous owner still had regular headlight bulbs. I was thinking about getting some HID bulbs, but I don't really know much about them. What are the pro's and con's with using these types of bulbs, and does anyone recommend a specific brand that they personally like to use with their Eclipse?

(I am assuming the HID bulbs are the "blue/purple" type of headlights you see a lot on the road?)

OK my car died on me while i was driving it. it made a weird noice and turned off. When i tried to turn it back on it just made a loud noice so i just pushed it home. my friend and i assumed my motor had blown when we started to see water leaking, since i have a rod in my motor. i got the car for a good price so i knew it was going to die and i had been saving money to fix it i just didnt know how soon. Since oild never leaked out the car my friend and i dropped that as an option as to what happened to the car. the only thing leaking was water and anti freeze. i now know its the water pump that busted but i dont know how. my friend said my car ran a bearing but its just an assumption. we have no idea what really happened and i dont know what to do. if it was only the water pump i dont know if i should just get that part and wait until i get the money for a new motor or since i know its going to die and most likely soon i dont k now if i should just get me a used motor and buy everything with the money i got. i dont know what to do. everyone tells me different. i LOVE my car and it kills me to see like that but i dont know what should i do someone please tell me what they think i should do.

i just put projector headlights on my 96 but they seem to be shorter leaving a gap inbetween the lights and the front bumper. Its this because they were ment to fit the 97-99 eclipse models, and if so how hard would it be to just switch front bumpers

I'm getting a 98 Eclipse (RS or GS,not forsure)... its stick and has no automatic locks or windows.
Does anyone know how expensive it would be to get them installed or if its even possible/worth it?
I've always wanted keyless entry and that would be the first step to getting it... ah!
