This forum is for any and all topics that you want to discuss in a serious manner. Please do not clutter other peoples threads with useless thoughts and posts that have no bearing on the original topic.
For example:
Lets say you got your girlfriend pregnant and wanted to gather input from others in the forum. Would you want people to make fun of you? Or make a joke of the situation? No, you would want serious opinions and that is why you would post it in "On Topic"
Another example:
You're looking for advice on new home purchase or looking to buy some real estate...

I did not write this, and I take no credit for it.
This little poem means a lot to me, and I think of my Grandfather who was in the Pacific in WWII, as well as every Marine around the world.
This is for you.......
A Marine Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house, made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney, with presents to give
and to see just who in this home did live.
As I looked all about, a strange sight did I see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.
With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sobering thought soon came to my mind.
For this house was different, unlike any I'd seen.
This was the home, of a U.S. Marine.
I'd heard stories about them. I had to see more,
so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone,
curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home.
He seemed so gentle, his face so serene,
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine.
Was this the hero, of whom I'd just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan.
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families I saw that night,
owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.
Soon around the Nation, the children would play,
and grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
because of Marines like this one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees, and started to cry.
He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice.
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more.
My life is my God, my Country, my Corps."
With that he rolled over, drifted of into sleep.
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.
I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night's chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
and covered this Marine, from his toes to his head.
Then I put on his t-shirt of scarlet and gold,
with an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
and for one shinning moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside.
I didn't want to leave him, so quiet in the night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep, he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure,
said "Carry on, Santa, it's Christmas day, all secure."
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas, my friend, Semper Fi, and goodnight.

My real name is Greg but pwee has always been my nickname since 8th grade football. My pads were bigger than my body and I looked funny.
I'm 26 years old and have been working on cars with my dad since I was about 6 or so. changing brakes and shit like that until I was about 19 when I bought my first eclipse. Thats when I started building engines. I found it to be very exhilerating and extremely fun to create a specific engine for a specific purpose.
I completed 5 years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania obtaining a Bachelor's of Science degree in Exercise Science and a minor of Athletic Training. I hold the certification of Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist(CSCS) from the National Strength & Conditioning Association(NSCA). I am currently enrolled in a Master's program at California University in Pennsylvania studying Rehabilitation Sciences. I am employed full time at Lancaster General Bariatrics as a Bariatric Exercise Phyisologist.
During my time in school I was part of a group of guys that did some racing. 2 of our guys were part of Brent Rau's crew when he was affiliated with slowboy racing. If you don't know who Brent Rau is you've been living under a DSM rock. if you don't own a DSM go to youtube and search his name....you will find out.
Since graduating i've built 3 cars, one of which was for myself but since i'm not handy with wiring harnesses I couldn't get it to run so I sold it. One other blew up because the guy I built it for took it up a mountain road wide open for the first few miles of the engines life. He made it to 4th gear before it spun a bearing and locked up. I almost cried. the third still lives as far as I know, has put down some good numbers but was for sale the last time I heard. The 4th car is mine and the one i'm currently working on. This one will be pure race car. About 800-850awdhp, 10,000+rpm redline 2.1L that will probably make me shit my pants a couple times.
Other than that, I just hang out with my dog, my friends, my beer, and post on here mostly because i'm bored at work in between patients. The wife and I are looking for a house to live here in Lancaster, PA for about 4-5 years and then move back home to the Allegheny mountains where we belong. Back to Steeler country WOOT!

Do I have to list jobs on my application if I only worked at them for 3 weeks to a month?
With all the moving around I've had 4 jobs in the past year, one for 7 months i quit cause I moved, one for 2 weeks quit cause I moved again. One for 1 week I quit because it SUCKED and I had a better job. One for 1 month fired for being sick.
I hear from a friend that if I didn't make it past 90 days, I don't even have to report those jobs to a new employer. Is this true?

Playing Chicken 2nd Amendment Style
By Paul Erhardt on Wednesday, November 5, 2008
The instant that Barack Obama was declared the winner it started the clock on a massive game of chicken between an upcoming Democrat majority, and all that that entails, and gun owners. The problem with a game like this is the Democrats with their significant wins in the House and closing in on 58 seats in the Senate have a much bigger car than we do. And maybe we aren’t very good at driving.
The transition work starts today and we can expect some bipartisan outreach from the new Obama administration but that outreach isn’t likely to extend into the debate on the 2nd Amendment.
Democrats have never liked guns and have led the effort to ban private ownership of firearms. There are of course those Blue Dog Democrats that strongly support the 2nd Amendment and they enjoy the support of firearms owners from both parties. But they are not going to be driving the agenda.
The Democrat agenda on guns will come from Sen. Schumer (NY) who has long bashed the second amendment. Not only does he now have a Democrat in the White House and a Senate majority better positioned to end a filibuster, but he has a V.P. in Joe Biden who has happily pushed through gun control in the past.
Biden is particularly dangerous in that he will on one hand talk about owning a Beretta shotgun, and on the other ridicule gun owners. Having lived and worked in Delaware, and been very active in state politics, I can tell you I never heard him talk about being a sportsman or heard the NRA leadership in the state ever talk about Biden as a sportsman.
He may have a shotgun. He may have gone shooting. But his willingness to stand up to protect your rights does not exist.
So legislation is on the horizon. We can expect a new assault weapons ban without a sunset provision. We’ll have restrictions on magazines with capacities over 10 rounds. We’ll probably see a one gun a month effort. The .50 caliber rifles will be targeted for restriction. And we may see an attempt to register guns, probably through a backdoor effort at ATF using the NICS system under the guise of crime fighting.
Most importantly we’ll see judges appointed to the federal bench that do not agree with the Heller decision and will support local restrictions. The federalist style argument of local restrictions will be a popular tact with the Obama administration as they have already hinted at it when speaking on guns during the campaign.
So where do we go from here in our game of chicken? We buy guns.
I got a call about a month ago from a friend who is a VP for one of the major gun companies. He wanted to know what I thought the response would be in the market place to the election.
I told him we’re looking at a run on those firearms we anticipate being banned. There won’t be a run on bolt action rifles, pump shotguns or even revolvers. We’ll see semi-auto rifles like the AR flying off the shelf. Those will be the first target of legislation and top everybody’s must buy list. Already friends are buying ARs and mags. One has 50 30-round mags shipping to him already.
The industry will see a considerable increase in sales of ARs, other black rifles and semi-auto pistols with “hi-cap” mags. During this period the industry will make money hand over fist – at least the black rifle makers and handgun companies will. The traditional hunting companies will see growth but nothing like the others unless they have a strong tactical product line-up.
This run on guns will accelerate as we get closer to legislation but will hit the wall when legislation passes. The assumption is that gun control will pass, and the industry is ill equipped to stop it. As an industry we did not inject ourselves into the national debate for president. Roger Simon pointed this out in the Politico when he wrote, “one of the McCain’s biggest mistakes so far has been, in my opinion, his failure to exploit issues that Republicans usually do well with. Take gun ownership.”
It was we who let guns fade from the national debate. We let the Obama campaign claim pro-gun footing without really challenging it. We lost the opportunity to inject guns as a jobs issue early in the debate during the New Hampshire primaries when the state is home to four major gun makers. We let guns come up late in the race but only as a story of increased sales. Most of those stories didn’t carry quotes from industry leaders. We remained quiet even when battleground states have strong sportsmen/gun owning traditions.
We did however preach to the choir, as we usually do, so we can feel good about that I guess. Oh, and we did bring down upon the Obama campaign the full force and might of the industry in the form of a cease and desist letter for using the SHOT Show press list without permission. How that didn’t derail their campaign I’ll never know.
But now we are in a very big game of chicken and the clock has started. It’s time to buy guns, magazines and ammo. Do it now before the prices go up or the shelves go bare. If you don’t you may find yourself in the future looking at a regular old AR and thinking $2,000 is a good price for a “pre-ban” rifle you could have bought for $800 today.
It’s time to break open your piggy bank, unearth your secret stash, trade some guns or whatever you need to do to get the cash to buy now….and don’t forget to grab a beta-C mag or two.

19th November 2008 - 04:32 PM Last post by: EMC 3000gt |
First, an introduction to who I am and what I have done in the past.
I am a 21 year old regular car nut. I first got my feet wet when I fell in Love with a local 12 second talon. I drew up plans for what I would do when I bought mine. I researched for hours and hours. I never bought a DSM. Instead the first car I bought was the first car I bought in Gran Turismo, the 3000GT.
I've been involved in quite a few project builds witnessed many more and driven and ridden in some stupid fast cars.
Highlights:
My personal 3000 GT with TT upgrades. I've basically done everything short of rebuilding the engine. When I got the car I hadn't even changed the oil on a car let alone done a timing belt water pump ect. It is now a very fun twin turbo car.
95 Talon TSI - This car has become the epitome of a DSM. Everything that can go wrong has and its one thing after another. It was supposed to be a simple 14B with simple supporting mods. Turned into big 16G FMIC HKS cams head work ECT ECT next after a new 20 psi tune is AWD conversion and bigger turbo.
EVO 8 with 20G turbo Hks Cams ECT pulled like a motha and didn't stop. power on at 4000 RPMS and this thing screamed. Fastest car I've driven.
911 turbo with larger turbo... not much to talk about as the owner just said its got larger turbos. No traction in first. (its awd) and in second gear the seat tries to eat you. Fastest car I've ridden in. and I've driven stock 911 turbos this was by far much faster.
HPA's Turbo Beetle making 600 AWHP It gets sideways on low boost
I worked for an exotic car dealership, so when I say I've driven fast cars you know I'm telling the truth.
So hopefully with the above said my experiences are clear and this won't come out as nothing but an old guy bitching and moaning about the younger crowd who is just getting into to car tuning. I've noticed lately a lot of newbies with the mind set of GO BIG OR GO HOME!! This meaning they have to have the biggest fastest car on the block. While theres nothing wrong with being the best at anything, not having a realistic goal or need is what gets people in trouble.
I'm writing this not for the guy who has the money and the team and know how to build a car for a specific reason but for the average guy or gal who wants a car that they can hop in on Monday drive to work or class, beat 90% of the cars on the street, take the new girl out on Friday with out worrying if its gonna break, go to the track on Saturday and beat the piss out of it and let your mother drive it to church on Sunday and not have to worry about her stalling it because of the clutch choice that was mismatched.
One of the biggest mistakes I notice is the numbers game. Whether it be I want 500 WHP or I want 20 PSI of boost. First 20 PSI on x turbo is x amount of power while 20 psi on P turbo is P amount of power. But that is another discussion.
The number games I'm talking about now is the horsepower game. Any number you want, think it right now, It could be 400, 500, 550, 1000, 2000, it doesn't matter what number you want its what you can realistically do. Not with the parts available but is it realistic with your budget and YOUR needs for this specific car. Sit down and look at your budget, being honest with yourself is really important because you NEED to know what you want to do with the car. Are you going to take it to the track every weekend and be competitive? Are you going to road course it? Destroy Hayabusas on the highway? Or do you want a car that you can drive every day, car that will be reliable AND fun to drive on the street? These are the most CRUCIAL questions you will ever have to decide on.
Staying on the horsepower thing. How much is to much? I used to think there was no number and internet communities today would have you thinking the same thing. These car forums will make you think a 500 WHP car is the normal and anything less is inferior and not as fun. I for one will tell you that is bull shit! I have driven a 1136 RWHP Supra before... At 70 MPH in 6th gear with the tires warm the fucking car will get sideways.
THIS WILL MAKE YOUR BALLS SHRINK. End of story never again that is to much power.
I can't really tell you what horsepower level is safe for you but a general consensus is that anything over 500WHP is to much for the street. Its just not safe to have that much power on an unprepped surface.
But then you ask me, "Hey what about that time I saw a stock 2JZ, 6G72, LS1 bottom end do 900 HP on a dyno" YES you can make that number on a dyno, once maybe twice or even 10 times. Now try to do that on the street and every day?

That thing will be spewing its guts before you can blink, and thats only if you have managed not to crash or put other people in danger by using that much power on the street.
Ask anyone with more then 500 RWHP or more then 600 AWHP how their car drives on the street. I WILL tell you how it is from personal experience. IT BLOWS THE BIG ONE. Is it fun... ehh its great till you see the speedo coming up on 160 and you realize you JUST got traction and you are on a public road. Yeah because thats safe.
Once you break the tires loose you are no longer in control of your car. There is no argument there. Your just not. There is not a street tire on earth that can handle that much power.
While everyone's preference on fun is different, It truly is no fun for me to drive a car thats gutless for 5000 rpms and then explodes with a fury for the last 3000. And this is a problem mostly with small displacement import vehicles that rely on forced induction to produce the big amounts of power. The more power you want to make, the more driveability you lose, response goes down the shitter and all you get back is a short period of time where your car is an uncontrollable beast thats ready to throw you into a wall or into a ditch.
If you know someone with a car that makes about 500 hp ask them for a ride, ask them to show you what its like to have a car with that much power. I can almost guarantee nearly anyone will do it, its one of the reasons we build these cars, for our own enjoyment and to show off to other people! I will tell you this: you will be in for a world of surprises, 500hp is REALLY FAST! In this internet world it may sound like you're behind the curve and need at least double that, but its WRONG!
If you still decide to go all out and be the biggest motha ever then PLEASE listen to me here when I say take NO SHORTCUTS!!! NONE! Not ONE! You will only be shooting your self in the foot. One weak bolt on the suspension could mean your death or someone elses.
Stay safe and hopefully this will wake some of you up.

Honor a Veteran and Celebrate Veterans Day
Freedom. We know it's meaning. We understand it's importance in our lives. Yet there are times we forget how hard our Veterans had to fight for the very freedom we experience today. In November, 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, the first Veterans Day. Armistice Day was proclaimed to honor Veterans from World War I. It became an official holiday in 1926, with revisions to the holiday in 1938 and again in 1954, when the title of the day was changed from Armistice Day, honoring World War I veterans to Veterans Day, when all Veterans were honored from all wars. The History of Veterans Day (Most Americans confuse Veterans Day with
Memorial Day?)
What Do You Know About Veterans Day?
Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. However, most Americans confuse this holiday with Memorial Day, reports the Department of Veterans Affairs.
What's more, some Americans don't know why we commemorate our Veterans on Nov.11. It's imperative that all Americans know the history of Veterans Day so that we can honor our former servicemembers properly.
A Brief History of Veterans Day
Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was "dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day.'" As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.
In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress -- at the urging of the veterans service organizations -- amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting the word "Veterans." With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, Nov. 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
In 1968, the Uniforms Holiday Bill ensured three-day weekends for federal employees by celebrating four national holidays on Mondays: Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day. Under this bill, Veterans Day was moved to the last Monday of October. Many states did not agree with this decision and continued to celebrate the holiday on its original date. The first Veterans Day under the new law was observed with much confusion on Oct. 25, 1971.
Finally on September 20, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed a law which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of Nov. 11, beginning in 1978. Since then, the Veterans Day holiday has been observed on Nov. 11.
Celebrating the Veterans Day Holiday
If the Nov. 11 holiday falls on a non-workday — Saturday or Sunday — the holiday is observed by the federal government on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday). Federal government closings are established by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management — a complete schedule can be found here. State and local government closings are determined locally, and non- government businesses can close or remain open as they see fit, regardless of federal, state or local government operation determinations.
United States Senate Resolution 143, which was passed on Aug. 4, 2001, designated the week of Nov.11 through Nov. 17, 2001, as "National Veterans Awareness Week." The resolution calls for educational efforts directed at elementary and secondary school students concerning the contributions and sacrifices of veterans.
The difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day
Memorial Day honors servicemembers who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle. Deceased veterans are also remembered on Veterans Day but the day is set aside to thank and honor living veterans who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime.
President Eisenhower’s letter to Harvey V. Higley, Administrator of Veterans' Affairs, designating him Chairman, Veterans Day National Committee
The White House Office
October 8, 1954
"Dear Mr. Higley:
I have today signed a proclamation calling upon all of our citizens to observe Thursday, November 11, 1954 as Veterans Day. It is my earnest hope that all veterans, their organizations, and the entire citizenry will join hands to insure proper and widespread observance of this day. With the thought that it will be most helpful to coordinate the planning, I am suggesting the formation of a Veterans Day National Committee. In view of your great personal interest as well as your official responsibilities, I have designated you to serve as Chairman. You may include in the Committee membership such other persons as you desire to select and I am requesting the heads of all departments and agencies of the Executive branch to assist the Committee in its work in every way possible.
I have every confidence that our Nation will respond wholeheartedly in the appropriate observance of Veterans Day, 1954.
Sincerely,
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER"

Well I wanted a OEM CF hood for my project, but have access to a CF evo hood. My only worryment is, the vent is like open isnt it? What if it rains really hard? Wouldn't that be BAD on a hot engine and cause warped head over time? I myself dont like the look of a Evo hood on anything BUT a evo, but like Pwee told me, its more power because more air being brought in.

I will post the answer at the end of the week, and when i do i'm sure there will be some people that say, "Oh, I don't like them." but then as soon as they hear one of their songs they say, "they did that song?"

So everybody, I was looking at a book full of methods that have been used as torture for a history class. I came across waterboarding, which I have known about for some time now, but just recently read into. In my opinion it has to be one of the top 5 methods of torture that can be administered.
It seems much more devestating than any method of torture used in the middle ages, because through my study of the process, it seems as though more people dies via these old methods. With newer methods, you may live to be 80 years old still.
What do you all think... is it that bad, are there much worse?
And mike... I have heard stories that the government has been waterboarding its own troops to get them to understand the rigors of torture, is this true?

* Tony Rezco was one of Obama’s finance committeemen in his state campaigns. He was on his board of advisers.
* Tony Rezco facilitated Obama’s purchase of a large and expensive estate in the North Suburbs of Chicagoland which indirectly benefited Obama over a hundred thousand dollars tax free. Obama claims he is innocent.
* Tony Rezco is well connected to the corrupt political machine in Chicagoland and was a financier of the fellow Democrat Govornoer of Illinois. For this corruption regarding the Governor Rezco is on trial.
* Tony Rezco was a large contributor to Obama’s campaign. Over $70,000. In view of the fact that Obama raised 50 million in February he was well able to give all of that $70,000 to charity.
6. Obamas radical views ..ion. He supports killing the baby, if it survives an abortion.
