Newb bashing is getting out of control. here's the deal, not everyone on this site is a mechanic, thats why a lot of people are here. when newbs ask questions its because they obviously don't know the answer. but when a person asks a question and 5 different people reply "your dumb for not knowing that," what makes that newb want to stay?
this is NOT OK for the sight and we lose a lot of new people because they don't want to ask questions, scared to recieve a flaming as an answer. i know to a lot of you who work on cars a lot or even as a hobby find the questions funny or annoying, but look at it this way, if your in a different country and can't speak the language would you like help with it or just get laughed at and thrashed for not knowing it.
auto work for a lot of people is like a foriegn language, if you don't know it you just don't, so a little more help and a little less hassle will be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys
-mike

We kinda slipped into this idea in the OT. lounge when we were talking about car shows on television and how rarely we see any of our cars (1g 2g 3g) being tuned on the shows.
So one thing led to another and we came up with the idea of a section of links on this site to youtube (pwee said it can't be stored on this site cuz it'll take up too much space ,over time)
We'll make videos of everything from routine maintenence, electrical diagnostics, to major engine overhauls for the VISUAL learners. Mabe throw in some slick editing and you got a section full of VERY comprehensive refrences. Even if you don't NEED the information RIGHT NOW, people will prob watch them just for the entertainment. And know, in advance, how to correct unforseen problems with thier cars in the future.
But some sour apples will prob. post some random stuff. So it would be a good idea to have a mod. approve all the videos before they make it to the section, and possibly check them for accuracy, although the viewers also have the power to cretique and correct them in comments under the post.
I believe that , if created, it will quickly become the most visited (and most helpful) section on the site.
What do you guys think?

I'm starting to notice issues on various pages in IE8 and the browser will reset to a 7.0 mode to auto correct. Also, when browsing, I typically see this error on each page refresh - except for the index.php page.

I was reading in the Eclipse 2G forums, and saw a how to install a Diy Grill or something, and someone already posted in that topic, that they like the idea of how to's on this site, and I was just thinking that it might be a good idea. Because if you were to make.. say "Do It Your Self How To's", and pin it, and lock it so only admins/ mods can post links in it. and let the people of this site put how to's then you put links in the pinned How To's thread. It might save alot of time searching, and save alot of time for questions that are asked lot. And this would work for any car, because there are alot of people out there that are do it your selfers, that like to do everything them selves, so i know that you could get how to remove the stock radio's , and you already got engine swap and what not. so just a suggestion, thanks for reading.
for any confusion or questions about this, message me

Just wanted to let you all know you have a great site

I have noticed that there are a few areas on the site that could use some spicing up and I was wondering if anyone running this site would be interested in me helping out around the site fixing errors and updating things. I am great in php and mysql, and I know quite a bit of Ajax. Using ajax would be an awesome upgrade! If you are interested, please shoot me an email or PM.
Thanks!

Just an idea...it might be helpful to create a forum for factory recalls. Car companies don't always go out of their way to let people know about recalls because it costs them money. But a forum for members to post factory fixes and recalls they have been informed of could be beneficial for everyone.

I realize I am a newbie, but on Yotatech.com we have a generation breakdown for the 4Runners. It lists difference in engines/body styles for different year models and such. For example the 3rd Gen 4Runner ranges from 1996-2002 and had both the manual and auto options and 3.4L engines and not sure of the other engines available, but you get the idea. It would help a lot of newbies like myself realize the differences from the earlier gens as well as advantages/disadvantages from differences in years. A small example of disadvantages... the earlier 3rd gens had cupholders that fit in the console and usually breaks, the earlier 3rd gens have frosted headlamps compared to the later with the clear headlamps with reflective mirror inside the housing. Stuff like that, I realize it's some work and researching involved but it would help from clutter postings such as "I'm looking at an 2003 Eclipse, any known problems?" Just my 2cents.

Greetings all - first time user. Hope someone needs some Christmas Karma and can offer some guidance. I am an owner of a '01 Montero Sport - Just love it - a real workhorse.
Just turning to winter (Western PA) here and 1st time into 4WD (since being stuck in the woods this summer) and a problem arose.
When I engage into 4WD (either stopped or moving) by shifting the controller; the ANTI-LOCK break error light pops on. Once this happens - my antilock brakes are disengaged! Now when I come to ice/snow covered roads - I have to chose b/w Antilock & 4WD.
Now as a test, I turned off the vehicle - it resets the Antilock error and they work again - this happens both when I turn the vehicle off while in 2WD or 4WD. Thus, if I need to engage the 4WD, the way to bypass the problem is to shift into 4WD - once it engages; turn off the vehicle so the computer can reset; then start and take off - now I have 4WD and Antilock.
Question - any suggestions based upon the symptoms - computer, wiring or the antilock sensors? Before I freeze my butt off trying to fix, I thought I would seek some input.
Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!!
MJ

Why dont we make a sounds board. If anyone has a sound system, exhaust, intake, or BOV they wanna show off, we can hear it. This may solve the "how does this exhaust sound on this car" topics.

Hi all,
I have a 2001 L200 4Life 2.5td
I was coming up to a roundabout last night and the Engine Management Light came on (I think)(Yellow light that looks like a funnel with a level across it)
and the engine died on me.
I then tried to start it a few times. It was turning over but not firing. Now when i try to start it i am just getting a horrible grinding sound and certainly not getting the engine turning over.
Someone please help me as its doing my head in not having it on the road.
Thanks
Glenn

Just wanted to thank the people in this forum. Making installs on my car has been much easier b/c of the people in this forum. I just bought my lancer two weeks ago and already upgraded the exhaust and added a cold air intake. (I know these are minor things but you got to start somewhere) I am adding headers in about 2 weeks. If the used turbo thing goes alright, I will have a turbo as well. THANKS!!

I think that you should make it so that the whole header is clickable, not just a small section because right now I am not used to it and I click the wrong area every time.
Thanks for reading,

Great job on the forum and I would really love to make some comments and a suggestion.
First off:
-Love the smileys, very entertaining!
-Also, the header and the whole upper part of the page is just
amazingly done.
Congrats,
also...
A suggestion for the smileys, after I put one in I would like them to keep playing, is this possible?
The check post length also, there should be a option to view a word count.
CHEERS!
