Hi guys

Wife was out yesterday and reports car spluttering, nearly stalling and very low on power. Manages to get it home and after a short drive I confirm!

Car: 2000 Chariot Grandis V6 GDi.
129000 km

So, I'm in the early stages of diagnosing the problem. So far I have...

- Checked the coils for spark - all are sparking.

Here is the weird thing, when I unplug any of the three coils along the front of the engine there is no change. Unplug any of the three rear bank coils and the engine nearly dies.

So the engine is running on the rear three cylinders only??

What could be causing this? Could it still be an electrical fault, such as the Fuel Pressure Sensor? I've heard these go bad relatively often, but would that cause all three cylinders to stop woking at the same time? The rear three cylinders are closest to the high pressure pump, so if the sensor was sending a poor signal, could there be just enough pressure for the first bank on cylinders?

Economy is very poor - computer telling me 3.5 km per litre.

Like I say, early stages of diagnosis, so any and all suggestions appreciated.

The engine otherwise runs very sweetly.

Ok so recently, I did some washing underneath the hood, and originally I thought that something may have gotten wet. However, this has been going on for several days, so anything wet would be dry by now.

Car is a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse GT 4 spd auto, Here are my symptomps:

-Car cuts out and sputters in low RPM range(2k and under), but runs perfect after that. Also only happens at low speeds under 30 MPH.
-Car runs fine for 5 minutes after sitting for 3-4 hours, regardless of the RPM range.
-Vehicle revs fine and does not cut out at all when in park or neutral.

Any ideas?

I've got a weird problem that's driving me absolutely insane.

Car:
Mitsubishi Lancer (CK1A), 1998
4G13 Engine, 1.3 gasoline.
Manual transmission
Hydraulic clutch assembly
135.000 km

Symptoms:
The clutch pedal has some kind of resistance point when I let it come up, right around the point where the clutch grips.
when the pedal is released further, it bounces to the left and pops up, sort of like a dislocated jawbone. I don't know how else to describe it.
When it does, it sometimes doesn't get past that point of resistance at all, causing the clutch to slip and the car to jerk uncontrollably.
This prevents you from driving away normally because it affects the grip of the clutch.
There's no wiring, upholstery or floor mat in the way, and the cylinders don't seem to be leaking.
There's no physical obstruction whatsoever.

When:
This occurs only while the engine is running, and only in gear (any gear).
When the engine isn't running or when the gearbox is in neutral position with the engine running, it does NOT occur...
It also doesn't occur every time the pedal is used, like when I have somebody else look at it.

Thoughts:
My guess is that the fingers are somewhat worn out, because it only occurs with a running engine. if it was a clutch cylinder, it should do the same with the engine not running. That's what I think.
I just can't figure out if it's a part of the assembly that is worn or broken so I can't operate the clutch properly,
or if it's the clutch that's making the assembly feel weird.

Has anybody ever had this problem or does anyone know what this is?

i have a 93 eclipse with a 2.0 5 speed i race as a bandit.2nd gear i hit rev limiter before the flagman,3rd gear the motor bogs. is there another car with a different ratio 2nd or 3rd gear i can put in.i just picked up a galant trans but it goes in the vehicle on the oppisite side as mine does.any suggestions?

Hello everyone. I have an 06 Endeavor and the "service engine soon" light turns on when I use the air conditioning. If I go a few days without using it the light turns off. I noticed the idle runs a tad lower when the ac is on. I was thinking about adjusting the idle to run a bit higher (if I can even do that) and seeing if that prevents the light from turning on. Anybody have any suggestions? Everything else about the vehicle runs as it should. Thanks!

Hey guys, new to the forum here. I picked up a 2g eclipse from a buddy and i finally have some time to tinker with it. The car has a boost leak, and it is to the point that it doesn't want to boost at all. While I was searching for the leak I noticed that one of the IC couplers is cracked all the way around. I'm sure the rest of the dried up looking couplers aren't helping, but my main question is this: Is the one cracked coupler enough to keep the car from boosting at all? Or should I be looking for boost leaks in other places as well?

Hi I have a Shogun 3lt sport & have damaged my front diff, well they say I need a new one. I done it by driving too far in 4wd in ok conditions, Stupid I know!.

My question is, can I drive my car in 2 wd with a damaged fornt diff. I have been driving it like it for 1 month with no probz. Some people have told me as long as i don't engage the 4wd front diff I will be able to drive it forever, but some guys at a garage told me, no way that will only last you a short while and will in the end break your car..

hi ive got a 1994 mitsi gto tt wen i got it from japan it was alerdy heavily modified its pushin round da 750hp mark but it has loads ov problems it has a hks fcon ecu with launch control but the speedo int workin so its losin power at 3 to 4000 revs the engine block has a slyt crak a the outlet cam is crakd any sugestion on were i can get it sorted many thanks

There's a local racing championship that happens here that i'm hoping to join, and my hope is to enter with a Mitsubishi, and not go down the common route of using a Honda, but quite frankly i'm losing on that hope since i can barely find street mods for them not to mention race spec mods. so i'm hoping you guys have more insight on this.

i want to compare the 4g92 Mivec DOHC AND THE 4G93 DOHC. Note that turbos are not allowed in the series and there are 2 classes, 1801cc - 2000cc and below 1800 cc, so no bigger displacements either. I need to be anal a bit and ask you to post the engine's name and then answer each of my questions as far as your knowledge goes

-how the engine responds to mods.

I have a 98 GST that I can't get to start. I yanked the battery and took it to autozone and they said it was bad, so I put a new one in but it still won't start. When I turn the key to start it, it just makes kind of a soft noise like an electrical motor going or something (ie not the loud clicking I've heard when the battery is dead). Don't think it's the clutch safety switch thing because it was disabled when I bought the car for the remote start to work. When turning the key to start it the headlights do not dim...ignition switch maybe?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, I want to boost the performance in my 1994 Lancer Excecutive but as i only know a little about engines and performance it is quite hard to know what to go for and what modifications to make. What sort of things could i do to get my car up to its peak performance?

ok, around here i seem to hear bigger is better for spark plug wires.
Now, i dont want to get into NGK wires are better, its all the similar thing.
What I'm wondering is if bigger is better, couldnt there theoreticly be a voltage drop with bigger wires.
I was always told that you should use smaller wires for higher voltage. ive ignored that with most anything on the car, because it is dc, and the wires are aprox 18 guage.
But arent the coils run off the alternator when the engine is running, hence a completely different beast known as ac?
Or am i wrong and should go back into my basement and figure something else out.lol:)

Hey guys and gals, i just recently picked up a 92 eclipse Gs with 2.0 dohc motor. i was told the bottom end had been gone through, new rings, bearing ect. And have just spent the last couple of days getting the cylinder head off. Question, what do i look for concerning whether i need to install new valves, cam shafts, and the rocker arms ect.
I noticed there is a lot of what i think is carbon build up on the bottom of the valve and some surface rust on the cams, rockers and lash adjusters. thanks for the help in advance.

I hear that porting and polishing an intake helps with power.

I have to remove my intake manifold to replace some gaskets I blew up. I know for a fact I have not the money nor tools nor experience to port the thing.

However, if I use TB cleaner and get all the yellow and black shit out of the inside, do you think I'll see a power gain?

Hoping someone may have a good idea of what's going on with my Mitsubishi Carisma GDI 1.8:
I have a problem where my engine stutters noticably (not fataly, but certainly annoying) when running a constant RPM, between approx. 2500 and 3500 rpm.
When I accelerate or decelerate, it's less or not noticable.

The Mitsubishi garage (without having had a look at it) is very willing to charge me € 450, to clean out the injection ports of the engine, without the guarentee it'll actually solve the problem.
They tell me that it's a known problem with the Carisma GDI, that there's polution of the injection ports.

Now, I'm a software developer, not a car mechanic, so you could tell me my car drives on orange juice and I'll believe you (no, not really), but before I want to go in to spending € 450,-, I want to know what your (that's you, dear reader) take on it is.

A friend of mine suggests that there are fuel additives that'll help clean said injection ports, but I'm not sure that'll actually do the trick.
If it does, hurray for me.
If it doesn't or you think it doesn't and urge me to try something else, please let me know.
I'm in dire straits without my car.

Recently bought a 1997 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 in great shape with only 73000 miles on it with intentions of tricking it out a bit. Just changed the oil, plugs and wires, added a cold air intake and some other mods. After about 600 miles I checked the oil and was about a quart low already. Getting ready to replace valve cover gasket to see if that will stop my leak. Any other suggestions as to where it may be leaking from if not the valve cover gasket? Help

I will be doing a service on my recently aquired Galant EA2A 4G63 2.0L 16valve 1998 and was wonder if anyone can help me with regards to the Spark plugs and the gap of same. So far it seems the recomended plug by Denso is PK20PR P11 and by NGK as PFR6J - 11.

Can someone tell me if this sounds right and what gap should I set them to.

Also as a matter of curiosity on MPG, over the past 2500 miles I get 34.5MPG, is this good or bad?? I hope that with the new plugs and service it might rise a little, even give me 35MPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me here. I have a 1998 Legnum ST wagon.(auto transmission)I can only get reverse gear when the car is cold. When i have driven for a while i can rev the engine when in reverse but it doesnt budge an inch. All forward gears seem to work perfectly. Help please

good day guys! i need your opinion on my upcoming g62b rebuild... it's a 1.8L 8v sohc n/a (carb) engine... i'm planning to make it a 2.3L stroker n/a (quad carb) for everyday driving and club track meets... and i have no plans of revving past 6k rpm...


so here's what i want to achieve:
- a 2.3L stroker (n/a, quad carb) with at least 200hp and has good torque earlier on the power band...


basically, here's what i'm planning to do:
- use a g4cs/g64b/6 bolt 4g64 100mm stock crank and have it lightened and balanced...
- use the stock g62b 150mm con rods and have it lightened and balanced...
- use wiseco 4g63 2.3L 86mm stroker pistons...
- use g63b head gasket...
- remove the balance shafts, make use of a balance shafts eliminator kit...
- shooting for 11:1 cr... planning on shaving the head to achieve this... will be using 97 octane e10 gasoline which is available anywhere here in our country...
- swirl port and polish the head...
- biggest valves possible...
- double valve springs...
- regrind the stock g62b cam to aftermarket specs...
- make use of kehin quad 41mm carbs... will be getting this from a friend, i'll just have to ask the machine shop to make a custom manifold...
- switch from a belt driven fuel pump to a mechanical fuel pump...
- use 9mm htw
- use cold plugs... i think a 7 or 8 heat range will be good...
- use msd to control the timing and ignition...


so basically that's it... btw, this engine will be put on a 1st gen mitsubishi lancer that weights around 850kg (i know... 1st gen lancers and carb engines are things of the past but i like it that way... old school ftw!)...


so what do you guys think?

My friend who owns a 1996 eagle talon tsi automatic. he is running 16G, walbro 255 fuel pump, full 3" cat-back exhaust, catless downpipe and a dynomax muffler.

He is having problems when he hits around 15psi of boost. The car stutters and cuts out. The car also has boost spike as well. We are thinking that it is the injectors or possibly a sensor somewhere on the exhaust pipe?

He said that he thinks he is running the stock injectors. but also the problem may have started when he installed his exhaust. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

good day everyone! just got a g62b (1.8L, sohc, 8v, carb version) engine for my 1st gen lancer... i know it's stock stroke is 90mm like its bigger brother (g63b that came from the L300 van) but i was wondering what is its stock bore if it is a 1.8L engine? also, what crank and other internals can i use to stroke this engine? can i use the 4g64, g64b, or g4cs internals to stroke this stock 1.8L engine to something like 2.3L or even 2.4L? any answer will really be helpful... thanks!

p.s. - i'm planning to use my solex/mikuni/kogyo twin side carb for this engine after overboring and stroking it... hehehe...

Recently a person at a car show was saying how a non turbo car can still use a BOV through the stock vaccume lines to have that cool turbo sound. Would this be possible?

My 1995 Mits Eclipse RS has a studdering problem, when your driving it will jerk or hesitate for a second and the check engine light will flash on like the engine is trying to die for a split second. Also sometimes when it is idling it will stall out. I have changed out the spark plug wires, spark plugs, done a full tuneup except for changing the fuel filter. Anyone have any Ideas or advice?

I have taken it to the shop, but the engine is not storing any codes when the check engine light comes on, I cant figure it out, otherwise it runs perfect and gets great gas millage.

no we've had it checked on the dyno an the air fuel mixture is fine..the fuel lines/pump is also good an the timing is also good.
mitsubishi couldn't tell me wats wrong

does anyone have any other ideas of wat it may be be??

Hello my name is Tyler, i go by in_deep. I am new to this. Well I am new to forums anyways. Well this is what is going on, and I need all the help I can get, so any advice at all would be awsome. I live in a small town and I was driving by a place that I always drive by, and for 2 weeks straight there was this family that had a 1998 GS-T Eclipse just sitting there. The body looked really good and it caught my eye for sure. Well after about a month trying to track them down to ask them what they were doing with the car, I made a small investment. Let me explain. The lady that owned it decided to run it with hi oil pressure and it thre the pistons through the engine. Sadly that was good for me to hear. Why? Well because now there is this beautiful car that she has no idea what to do with. So I made a small offer and she took it. No I didn't rip her off, she did some research and came back to me saying she wanted to sale it. So here is what I need help with. First of all money is not an issue but lets not blow things out of porportion. Because the engine is blown I am going to replace it(I will take any suggestions on what engine to put in) since I will have the engine out I am going to convert it into a right-hand side drive. Also it is an automatic and I will be changing it into a manual, I was also thinking about turing it into AWD. Please let me know what you think, and if you have any suggestions. Thanks

I have a 2001 Galant with a 2.4L Sohc, I bought the car from a mechanic who put a new timing belt on, it had 218000. At 260000 (current milliage) The balance shaft belt broke and caused the timing belt to jump time. I bought the (KIT) from rock auto that had both belts and 3 pullys, I also bought a new timing belt tensioner adjustment (the hydrolic shock that puts pressure on the tensioner pully) and installed it all.

It took me about 3 weeks to order the parts get time to put them on and order the tensioner when I relized mine wasnt good. However when I got it all back together the car cranked up and ran like a champ. I drove it a mile or so parked in the driveway satisfied with the work I had done.
I was setting the presets on the radio with the car idleing and it went dead. However it cranked back up. Then went dead and wouldnt start.

Then next day after getting an OBD2 I got in the car to check it and decided to try and crank it and it cranked right up. So I drove it about 2 miles and sat in the drive way with the car at idle and sure enough after about 2 minutes of idleing it went dead, cranked up, went dead, and wouldnt crank.

An hour later I cranked the car and let it idle till it decided to go dead again and wouldnt crank. It seems like when the engine gets completly warmed up it goes dead. There is only one code.
PO335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A ciruit malfunction

1. What sensor is this??? The one on the front of the engine by the crankshaft?

2. If it was out of time would it be a different code instead of (malfunction)??

What would you suggest? Simply replacing the sensor and going from there, or has sombody had similar problems and know of somthing else that may be an issue?????? This ad is not displayed to registered members.

I just recently bought a 98 eclipse gs. the person i bought it from put a 5zigen exhaust on it. its like a 4 inch muffler, and its waaayy too loud, i haven't been driving it for more than a week, and i have already been pulled over for it being too loud. I don't want to get pulled over anymore, so all my friends are telling me to get a new muffler, and i want to, but i don't know what to get, i still want my car to sound nice, but i don't want a stock muffler, what should i get?

The car is a 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX running the 4g15 bottom and the 4g13 head. The acceleration on the car is beyond horrible. The car won't even drive with the aircon on unless its floored. I'm at witts end with it honestly but what can i do to improve the acceleration?

Since the car got the 4g15 bottom half (it was running the full EFI 4G13 head before) it was never remapped to suit the engine change. Could that be a problem?

Alright, let's set the scene. I'm a 19yr old college student, so money is tight. I have a 2005 Lancer OZ, with the 4G94 and an A/T. I can't really afford to put a turbo in, so I'm lookin' to stay N/A. I want a little more low end power: just enough that the riced out Honda Civics won't beat me off the line, and enough to keep up with my friend's Sentra SE-R.

My plan, once I have the cash, is SRI, Exhaust, and Header.

Simple? Absolutely. UNTIL...

I was talking with a family friend, who is a car guy. He's been working on cars most of his life, and his brother is currently preparing to supercharge a Dodge Dart with a 440 dropped in. Said family friend mentioned "Electric Superchargers" to me the other day. This got me curious, and I did some research. The one e-s/c I've seen POSITIVE statements about is the eRAM. Apparently, the rest are s***; simply bilge fans modified to fit into a car.

So, my question (sorry it took so long to get to) is whether or not anyone on this board has tried/heard word of/etc. these supposed electric superchargers working. The theory back and forth is that they can't work because they don't really create boost, but they do work because they spin fast enough (in the case of the eRAM) to create around 1.5-2 PSI at WOT, and function as a 3" straight pipe the rest of the time.

Again, please don't shoot me for bringing up what seems to be a topic of great flame-wars on some other car-related boards.

Hey everyone,

I found an exhaust off of a 97' mitsu eclipse at a junkyard in good condition. i already started to polish the tip with mothers metal polish it works great! It will fit onto the pipe i have right now on my 99' mitsu galant! I have no idea what brand it is thought, there are no names or numbers anywhere on the pipe, can anyone tell from these pics? will this exhaust with my stock pipes on the car make it sound a little better/ louder??
