I'll be heading to another city to help a friend replace his alternator. Ive never worked on a 3000GT before and was looking for a heads up of any special procedures or tools i might need to remove the alternator for a 97 3000GT SOHC. Im finding quite a bit of stuff for the DOHC but not the SOHC.
If these instructions are already somewhere in the forum and i missed them im sorry.

On one 6g72's i have it says 3000 eti or something like that on the cover, the other one just says 3000 24v.... is there a difference between the engines? please dont hate me kuz of the lame questions... im super newb when it comes to the 3/s platform.

while driving or still. happens for about a second at a time.
theres a sort of motor noise sounding like its stuck and trying to do something. - i think?
sounds like it might be coming from the exhuast, but i might be wrong.
any possible ideas what this could be people?

Hi, I recently bought a 95 3000gt base. I have noticed that the oil pressure guage reads fine, in between the large tick marks, when the car is at high idle or cruising. However, when the car idles or is driven under low load, the pressure reads near the bottom of the guage. I was wondering if it is normal for the pressure to rise and fall, or if this indicates a problem. If so, any ideas as to what the problem may be? Thank you.

Hi, does anybody know where I could get a new coolant reservoir for a 1995 VR-4 if my one is cracked? The engine is overheating due to this, i think. Also, is it hard to install this reservoir yourself, or how much would it cost to have it installed by a shop? Thanks.

So i took my car into Mountain Mitsubushi dealership to see why my car was driving so crapply it was sluggish and i heard some knocking. they told me it could be my timing belt because my belt should be replace at every 60,000 miles so my car has 119,600 which leaves me at 400 miles til the belt could crack.
but they quoted me $752.74 + Tax to do my timing belt and tensior.
is that reasonably priced? how much does the belt cost, tensioner?
Is it hard to replace? I have access to a shop where you can just pay like 25 dollars for 8 hours and work on your car using all tools that they have and i have a timing light.

Hello
This might seem like a dumb question but i have a 91 3000GT SL I noticeed a light on the dash that says Tour-Sport it flashes all the time and there is a button in the bezel that says ECS Electronic Control Suspension does that do anything because i push the button and it just sits there. is it broken or is this part of an upgrade to a vr-4 model?

being that im 18 i love my music. i want to put some 12" subs back there. but obviously i cant because of those stupid little curves in the back before it drops down. do those curves serve any use? i want to take a jigsaw and just cut that **** out, but my dad wont let me saying that theres wiring or something important in there and that its there for a purpose, so can someone help me out so i can print it off and start making my box for my subs.

I have a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT. Whenever I start idling for too long, like at a stoplight, white/gray smoke starts gushing out of the exhaust. Once I speed up, it seems to go away. I've recently had an oil change and some sparks/wires replaced. Ive also been told recently that I have an engine oil leak and that I have a cracked timing belt. Not sure what could be causing this. Any ideas?

my engines been smoking really bad and the rings are blown so im putting a new engine in it right after x-mas. since im putting a new engine in it, probably a jspec with 30k miles, i was thinking about just doing some small mods. its 94 auto, so just like CAI and an exhaust, nothing fancy, while i save for a VR-4. is it worth it? and if so, what would a good place be to get an exhaust for a 94 3000gt

Hey gang,
I'm new to the board, so hello to you all.
I have a red GTO Twin turbo 1992.
Goodies include:
Super AFC Apexi. I have no idea how to use it LOL
Greddy Profec spec A. I really need an English user guide for these!!
HKS Super dragger exhaust. Big enough to put both hands in!!
Plus an evil looking nose cone.
Right gents, down to business.
I have had the car for a week and all is well. I'm loving this beast. I do have one concern though. If I turn the engine off and then start her again 20mins later she starts ok, but then runs very lumpy and stalls.
If I hammer the gas for 10 seconds then she is fine.
I've been told it might be vapour lock.
Do any of you guys or gals have any idea?

Hello all!
I am new here. I have had issues with my clutch and it is being replaced by the dealership. Anyhow, the parts were going to cost about $350 for the mitsubishi parts.
I was wondering if I would be better off getting another performance clutch. I would be looking for drivability, and lifespan, as well as support for small mods in the future (maybe and less important than the first two).
I was looking at the ACT heavy Duty Clutch MB1-HDSS. Would this fit my car well? Would I need to replace either of the cylinders? Would I need to get a new flywheel to match, or can use the original?
I really know nothing at this point, and wonder if there is a better clutch or brand, or if there are any known issues with that clutch in this car.
They want $940 plus $400 if they have to do the flywheel...So, it would be $200 cheaper to go with the ACT clutch and flywheel from prostreetonline.com....with possibly much better performance....though I imagine it may be a little harder to push to the floor....

im getting this 96 3000gt and everything is all good except the engine ecu. so, the guy i got it from said that i would have to replace it, but all i could find here in maui is a 95 ecu. ... i just wanted to know if it is compatible because i want to get it running again. thanks.

yea the whole oil tranny problem is fixed i put tranny fluid into the tranny(thinking it was oil) DOH! and drained the 8QTS of oil out of it....i hope i didnt do any damage to the engine? what happens from having to much oil, tranny seems to work fine now....it was driven 20 or so miles like this

please tell me my beloved car is ok

I have a 1992 3000gt. Im about 5' 3". I can reach all the pedals fine besides the clutch is a little far away when fully depressed. I can reach it im just way to close to everthing else. The wheel and shift nob. I wanted to know if their is anyway to make the clutch pedal closer or to make where it dosnt have to travel as far to engage it. Thanks alot

i just got done changing the oil in my 95 3000gt n/a. i used 4 qts of castrol syntec the synthetic oil. new filter like a regular oil change. drained the old oil and put the new filter in. started it back up went to pull my car out of the garage put it in reverse usally it starts moving when its shifted into reverse it sat there and died out so i tried it agian and it seemed like it was slipping, so i took it on the road and it seems to shift a lot diffreemt then before like its low on fluid or somthing, expecailly at higher rpm shifting. i didnt pull the tranny fluid out did i or somthign? any ideas?????

oh my oil pressure gauge stopped working after i changed my grounds so i cant see if theres oil press

im having a lot of trouble with my car right now and im not sure what exactly it is. i took it for a long drive this weekend about 1.5 hours of continuous driving to newark and back. and ive been noticing some problems. it feels like its misfiring and i know that can result in the spark plugs coming lose or just going bad, but then i let my boyfriend drive it home today ( the problem hasnt been that bad till he drove it home ) and he said it felt like it was shifting bad (jolting and sputtering). i noticed it as well, when he was going 50 or below it would rev itself up and shift.but also felt like it was misfiring on its own, as if it was struggling, but it didint die. it was really awkward. im hoping its not my TCM because i just had to replace that.. but other then that i have no idea. if anyone has any ideas on what it might be and how to fix it i would be very much appreciative. thanks.

Hi guys, i have a 93TT GTO stock as as far as i know, engine has started slight misfire at 2-3k on light throttle, replaced plugs, leads etc, cleaned out throttle body, engine started hunting at idle , adjusted idle mixture, hunting dissapeared after a few days
Engine is slowly getting worse, on WOT it hestitates just does not pick up like it used to , put injector cleaner in it over the weekend, no real improvement went on club run at the weekend, car is blowing black smoke on even light boost, surges feels like not enough fuel, but i think its two rich, exhaust light came on briefly while on boost. Could i have bad o2 sensors car has 128k km jap import so could be more.
any help apprieciated

I purchased this '92 SL 5 speed about 2 months ago. Among other minor problems, it is extremely hard to start when the engine is cold. Once it is started and warmed up, it runs perfectly. I have checked all sensor connections, battery terminals, taken out the throttle cable slack and removed the fuel pressure regulator to make sure it was holding vacuum. There seems to be no vacuum leaks and there are no engine codes. When attempting to start, there is a strong fuel odor or flooding smell. Once the engine starts, any touch on the accelerator causes the engine to die. This condition lasts a few minutes until the engine is warm, then everything is fine. I have also disconnected the battery to allow the computer to reset. I am the third owner; the first owner maintained the car well and kept meticulous records, the last owner abused the car badly. Advice, anyone?

Water is GUSHING out from by my water pump while the car runs and after you shut it off it drains till its empty..
It cools just fine when there is water in it... Could the water pump be bad?

i was replacing my timing belt on my 94 with the dohc non-turbo. my car has been down for a week because i can not find any information or diagrams on how to get it back in time any information or help is greatly needed and appriciative.

I just had a new engine dropped into my 94 3kGT. It's not finished yet, as i need to replace the gasket between the exhaust manifold and downpipe. As of now, that is still disconnected. I tried starting it, but i can only get it to crank over but it doesn't catch. While it's cranking over, baseball sized fireballs come out of the manifold. All cylinders have spark and compression, and i assume fuel since ot creates fireballs. My question is does the engine need the back pressure of the cat to work properly or is my car just being a pyro?

I am considering buying a GTO because I have always liked the looks of the car and believe it is quite an advanced sports car for its age. I like the years 1991-1993 with a manual and turbo's. I would also like a T top roof or at least a large removable sunroof. I have seen similiar models but nothing with all the options I listed. Can anyone tell me the pro's and cons of this vehicle and what to look out for? I am in the South Island of NZ and own a 97 Pajero GDI and 95 RVR so I have some base knowledge of Mitsi's.

Hi everyone... I have a quick question... I am driving an 04 Mits Endeavor XLS AWD.... and i am looking to trade it in for something smaller and faster... I saw couple of 3000 GT's where i live and i always see on the back right window (one of the small ones) they have a sticker that says Twin Turbo... does 3000 GT come with TT or? Sorry if this is a stupid question but i just want to know cuz i really like those cars... And can someone give me some info about them are they fast when stock, what kind of engine is it, how much stock HP... is there lots of parts for them etc....

So, my 94 3kGT has just undergone an engine replacement, but it won't stat. For some reason, the fuel pump is not getting power. The pump is good, however, as when tested seperately it works. What are all the possible causes of it not getting power? My mechanic thinks it might be somthing to do with the alarm system, but since i don't have the key fob, i'm kinda SOL on that one. Is there any way to disable the alarm (like cutting power to it?)

Yeah well its a long sotry, it was wet out.. 4th of july weekend (yes ages ago, just havnt done anyhing about it cause my brain went out soon after i did it) i was tired, and my dirt driveway plus the wide stance of the car and my bald tires werent helping my traction in my gravle/dirt driveway, and i hit MY OWN gate mind you, that i also havnt fixed yet... anyway i gave it a nice bobo. going to need a new bumper cover for sure, maybe a new hood depending on what happens when i start beating on it. at any rate, i need some advice, its a 91' 3000 gt, should i go with an aftermarket bumper cover, or go back stock, im looking for somethign cool, but not overly expensive, i just need osme suggestions here.

My AC works but whenever I turn the car with the AC running the car squeals really loudly. I don't know if it is just the tension in the belt or if it may be something else. I need to know something pretty soon if anyone knows anything. Thanks for your time.

sometime after I started my car, i could not change tranmision, it sturcked (I cannot move shift stick). Then i had to turn my car off and started it again. there was wird sound from my clutch too. (In case i still cannot change it, i have to turn it off again and agin untill i can. )
Moreover during I drove my car when i put clutch it made some weird sound sometime.
And Yesterday I checked clutch fulid I found that it decreased than Min. then i took my car to check there was no leak
What happen to my clutch? How to check it? It is possible I have to change my clutch?
