I bought a 2004 Endeavor with 85000 miles. I am not sure if the transmission fluid has EVER been changed so I am unsure if I should change it at this point. I have hear that once you change fluid at high miles it really messes up the transmission so I am curious as to what other Endeavor owners say.
A side note and may be related. For the last couple of weeks I have noticed that whenever I am on the road and traveling say 35-65 miles per hour and go to pass someone, when I step on the gas and the car goes to downshift it starts to downshift then hesitates DRASTICALLY like it is wanting to downshift but cant. If I do not push hard on the gas it will downshift with no problems. Would a fluid change help the transmission? Any ideas what could be causing this? It just won't downshift when pushed hard. I am not abusing it, but I want to know what I could do to fix this. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Most sporty SUV's on the market sport double exhausts and I was wondering how would I go about obtaining this on my endeavor. I figure I would have to change out the exhaust piping and make accomidations such as mountings for the exhaust that I would then want to install on the left side. Does anyhow have any ideas on this project or how much it would cost me?

At 19,000+ miles on a 2004 Endeavor AWD (Mfr. Date 4/2003), I began getting a "whirring" sound from (I think) the drive train. Definitely not a belt whine, and doesn't seem to be a wheel or tire noise since it sounds the same on both sides. I followed the earlier thread on this issue that indicated possibly failing propeller shaft bearings or a rear diff problem. If any of you mechanics out there (like you, manybrews), have any further information or TSB's related to this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Am taking the car to the dealer day after tommorrow. Thanks.

I'm ready for some new rubber on my 2007 LS AWD and after alot of reading find myself interesteed in the General AltiMAX HP. This time around I would like to slighty change the profile and footprint and do so without having to go to new rims and larger diameter.
The std. tire size for the ende is the 235/65/17 and this size is available in the Altimax. The next tire size up would be 255/60/R17 and gives me a slighty higher speed rating and adds an additional 300lbs for towing capacity, a possible consideration since I may be moving cross country this year.
I know the difference in the 2 tires sizes I described isn't a whole lot, (about .75 inch width), and believe the 255 width should fit ok. My question is with change in performance and handling, we know this vehicle to be a little sensitive to change. Soliciting any thoughts about the tire size difference of experience with different brands, I don; see a whole lot mentioned here.
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.....

One of our keyless entry remotes for our 2004 Endeavor LS had an unexpected, high speed encounter with a wall last night. It is now in about 6 pieces and unable to be reassembled. Called my local dealer, who informed me that a new fob was $70, and $40 to have the service department program it to my car. Had I known this, I'd have thrown myself between the remote and the wall faster than a Secret Service Agent saving the president. Amazon shows a couple used ones for $54 with "instructions for do-it-yourself programming." I'm always a little leery of used-electronic-anything and am wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket source for these little buggers. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2004 Endeavor from a private seller here in Ohio. It was $7,000 with 80k miles. I did not know if I would like it because I was just about to get a 325i BMW, but as soon as I drove the endeavor I knew I loved it and had to have it. I love the way it drives and the power that it has. This is my first SUV and I have been driving about 10 years. I can't believe how well it does in the snow!
Small problem though (hopefully). I have had it for a month now and I started getting this Knocking or almost like a popping sound when I apply the brakes hard from 25 miles per hour and below. It is from the back of the vehicle. Like if I am coming up to a stop light going about 35 then it changes to red, then when I hit the brakes moderately hard from 20-25 mph and below I get the sound. It is only when braking kind of hard so I hope it is brake related. It does not happen when I gently brake and ease up to a light. Any ideas on what it could be? Brake Caliper? Suspension? Drive shaft? Universal joint?
I am hoping that the Crazy Drunk Guy can help me on this, or someone else can.

Hello all,
My wife and I just bought an '04 Endeavor Limited with low miles, second owner, all maint. records and excellent condition. It's our first Mitsu and so far we love it!
I'm curious about several things though. First, the AC/heat system vents in the center console are chipping. Our console is silver and I'm wondering if there is a touch-up paint that matches that silver color. Also, does Mitsu offer a touch-up paint for the pearl color?
The only major issue the car had before we got it was a damaged radiator, presumably from a rock hitting and puncturing it. I noticed that none of the vent in the front grille, including the big intake on the bottom, have mesh over them. All road debris goes directly into the radiator. No wonder a rock punctured it! Has anyone come up with an aftermarket solution to installe some good looking mesh in there?
Finally, I'm interested in HID headlamps for this car. Has Mitsu ever offered them as an option on the Endeavor? Has anyone successfully installed aftermarket HIDs in their Endeavor?
Thanks for your advice and feedback. I look forward to enjoying our new Mitsu and this forum.

My Endy is 300 miles away from the big 100k, overall it's been a good 5 years and I want to keep that run going. I have been running premium, just had the spark plugs changed, had the t-belt, waterpump, and all belts changed at 67K, transmission flushed every 15k at Mitsu. However, within the last 10,000 miles I have noticed that the Endeavor when Idle is rougher especially when the compressor kicks on but still rougher even without it. Sorta reminds me of an old 4cycl car, when cruising everything is smooth but when at a light it I feel the vibration throughout the car. When I had the sparkplugs done, I asked them to go over the truck and check the belts and anything that might need replacing and they said everything checked out okay.
I have a feeling that it's problably the motor mounts since I had to replace the one by the passenger strut due to a hellashish squeeking but I wanted to get some opinions before I went and ordered the others to what you all suggest.

I have had my 04 Endeavor XLS for almost a year and I have noticed that during strenuous driving (up passes, or accellarating hard) that when I park the vehicle and get out I notice an odd smell. Its kind of hard to explain, its almost like burning rubber or burning dust or oil or something. It only has 60K miles on it. I rarely drive it hard or up passes and under normal highway or city driving with light to moderate work on the engine I don't notice this. I have owned many trucks, cars, vans, SUV's, 17 to be exact and I have never noticed a smell like this before. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might look at??

I just got new HID headlights installed last night, I did it myself and I love them. 8000k which looks just like the same color as BMWs and Lexus' have. I got them for $50 including everything even shipping from a seller on eBay. Can't beat it at that price IMO.
I can actually see now like I used to be able to in My 2001 Acura TL! Once you have had HIDs it is hard to go back to halogens. Has anyone else installed HIDs in their Endeavor? How did you reduce the Glare? It is not too bad but I was wondering if anyone else has installed HIDs and how they solved the glare problem. Again it is not too bad, but I would like to improve it if I can. And yes I know I can do a retro fit and add projectors but I was wondering if there is an alternative that actually works and is not too hard.

Hey all, just bought my wife an 05 Endeavor w/85000 miles... We are very pleased!
However, when starting up in the morning, and placing it into drive it shifts EXTREMELY hard into drive. Almost as if you're rolling backwards then shifting it into drive. Lunges forward big time.
It only does it once. Won't do it again all day, no matter how little we drive it. ONLY once a day in the morning.
I know it also hasn't had the timing belt done either, could this be linked as a culprit?
Thank you for any help!

I have Endeavor 04, is it still under power train waranty? 145km.
Very loud (tick-tick)noise comming from engine head, I think valves are so noise or maybe one of them is lose. It was never like this.
Just a good guess.
Is valve (shaft) is part of power train waranty?
What is power train? What parts are in power train?
Thank you

I had my glove box disassembled on my 2006 Endeavor trying to remove a penny from the passenger side vent and in the process, the center console cover pulled out a bit. I got the penny out and reassemble everything to what I thought was complete, but now the radio is on, but none of the buttons or volume/tuning controls work.
Did I loosen a connection somehow? Any idea how to get things working agian or what to look for w/o taking it in to the dealer?

I'm looking for detailed instructions (photos, diagrams, written) for removing console around the stereo/climate system. I need to access the back of the stereo to install an iPod adapter. I'm not used to messing around with my interior, and I don't want to muck things up. If I mess this up, I'm in for an "I told you so."

I don't live near a dealer but need to replace the rear wipers. Anybody have success with store bought wipers or is it just a "special" mitsubishi part. I did replace the oem wiper with ones from walmart by sliding it in through the wiper but it doesn't seem to wipe smoothly and leaves most of its path unclean and is noticeable when it gets dusty.

I have an 04 Endeavor XLS AWD w/82K miles and it just recently started making a ticking noise while its on. The noise is magnified during acceleration and at high speeds. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like the diesel engine in a Volkswagen car. When I took it into the dealer, he told me that it makes this noise because when it's cold outside, the oil takes longer to get from the oil pan up into the engine block. It sounds like a bunch of crap to me because they were liable according to the dealer's warranty. Any ideas so I can go into an auto repair shop with some direction?

My 2004 Endeavor is making a strange hissing noise under my car. It comes on when I do over 20 MPH and continues until I drop below 20MPH. I thought it might be the brakes so I changed everything up front, caliper, rotors, and brakes but no help. It's driving me crazy. I don't hear it below 20 MPH. Help

I have the 2010 SE and did not get NAVI because this was the only 2010 vehicle within my area when I bought it in Dec 09. I wish I could have NAVI and I was hoping that the wiring harnesses are all in place to just switch out the Center Console with the NAVI one. I also wanted backup sensors and I assumed they were part of the NAVI.
If it is possible, perhaps I can get one from a wrecker? Where do good parts like that go when a new vehicle is wrecked?

I have a new 2010 Endeavor AWD SE Canadian model. I have been enjoing the great ride for a couple of months now and all of a sudden, while drivin up long highway hill, a noise started from the drivers side left dash area. The noise continued at Highway speeds of 110 (65) or greater and sounds like arcing and relay clicking. There is no smell at all, and if it is just a loose component it is strange that it has two distinct sounds. I was so sure it sounded electircal in nature that I was quite prepared to pull over for a possible fire. I tried going out again later that night to reproduce the sound for my wife and it would not happen again.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I am sure it will not be present when I am able to get it to the dealer for inspection!

Update: I have not heard the problem since, I have a suspicion that it may be related to an electircal relay that was affected by the vehicle heating up from the drive home after a cold day outside. The temperature that day was 14 F and I had the heater cranked up. 15 min into the drive home everything was good and hot. Are there any mechanics out there that may agree there could be a relay acting up from a drastic temperature change?

I recently had the 90k mile service done to my 2004 Endeavor and they changed my tranny fluid during the procedure. Since then my drive has felt funny, I took it back to the dealership and the mechanic "drove it seven times" and everything felt fine to him. I can't accurately describe the problem (if it is a problem) I am experiencing as it is more of a greater level of sensitivity than anything else, shifts seem a little harder? I am not sure of the proper terminology to use. It isn't slipping and after about a month of driving my fluid is still nice and red. Is it just driving differently because the fluid is nice and clean? I have also noticed that at a certain level of acceleration position I hear a whirring sound now. This occurs only under medium accerlation. I am really paranoid all the time when I drive now and it is ruining my experience in the car.
Thanks,
agan

I bought my 04 Endeavor about 5 months ago with 54K miles on it. It now has 57K miles and although it seems a bit early I hear that the timing belt is recommended to be replaced at 60K miles. This seems very early to me. Also I was wondering if the Timing belt were to break while driving, does this blow the engine? I know some cars timing belt can break and it doesnt hurt the motor where as other cars if the timing belt breaks it blows the motor. Any advice would be helpful.

I have an 04 endeavor with 93000 miles new tires and I just replaced the stabilizer bar bushings and links. It makes a terrible knocking vibration when you hit about 65 mph on the highway only when you are turning the wheel to the left and I mean a slight turn to the left could only be an inch. It sounds like there is something loose but when on a lift you cant see anything loose underneath. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum as I just bought a used 2007 Endeavor, this is my first Mitsubishi ever, so far I like it, I did my research and I tried both the Honda Pilot and Nissan Pathfinder, I found the second seat rows on those ( speciually on the Pathfinder) too small, maybe because they decided to add a third seat row, so as I don't need a third row specially a cramped one, I went for the Endeavor.
Now unfortunately the previous owner lost the User Manual and I'm trying to get a copy, could someone please point me to the right direction on where to get it? If possible some website or a second hand or cheap seller.
Cheers /// Albert

Hi all, just bought a 2004 Endeavor Limited AWD (94k miles) a couple months ago and I'm new to this forum. I have a few questions about some issues...
Issue#1) So I know there's A LOT of discussion about the propeller shaft issue with earlier endeavors and my car definitely shows the same whining noise symptoms etc. I'm not the original owner and my car has 94k miles on it...any chance that I'm still covered under the 100k mile drivetrain warranty? Is the prop. shaft issue covered by a recall? SHOULD it be covered by a recall? Does mitsubishi realize that this issue has come up with pretty much every earlier AWD endeavor built (based on countless threads about it)? Should I have to pay to fix it? Is there a way to get mitsu to fix it for free? How much does it cost to fix it otherwise without warranty?
Issue #2) The steering wheel shakes a little at higher speeds ~55+ mph. What could be causing this?
Issue #3) My steering wheel radio controls stopped working. All buttons worked at one point, but in an intermittent way (the left buttons would work, then the right ones only, then none would work...very weird). At least I know that the buttons are connected to the stereo. But what could the problem be?? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help/advise!! Even with these issues, I still love the endeavor!

Been reading topics on Endeavors...
Came hear to see if anyone had problems with noise from front suspension?
"Like rattling and bushing noise"
I'll give my review of this SUV after 4 years of driving...
-Had problem with a spur in a gear in the stearing column straight out of showroom. Took months to solve this problem as dealer had to call in a specialist from Mis... "Had banging noise and bumping in steering"
-Rattling noise from front suspension, dealer changed bushings around 20k but noise is always there "rattling and seams suspension is loose" dealer's cannot seam to get rid of this.
-Wind noise as others state here at high speeds.." I guess opening window is a solution

Overall approaching 50k the above problem are big to me and would not purchase another one !
Thanks if anyone else has problems with rattling noise from from end and suspension please post your ideas or problems....

I just got a 2006 Endeavor with the factory single disc mp3 radio. All I want to do is add a 3.5mm input so I can play my NON-ipod mp3 player through the radio without using a stupid fm transmitter (which all sound like crap btw)
I've seen there is a ipod adapter now, but I want to use something besides an ipod - so all I want is a basic and standard 3.5mm input jack.... Can this be done? HELP PLEASE.

So I have an 04 Endeavor LS AWD that has been pretty bullet-proof for the last 3 years, except for a propeller shaft replacement right after we bought it. Anyway, within the last month, it has developed a vibration between 60 and about 80 mph, and only when you accelerate. Take your foot off the gas, vibration goes away. I can feel it through the steering wheel and in the floor, and the harder you accelerate, the more violent the vibration. I have taken it to 2 shops, the first telling me there was nothing "visibly" wrong underneath, and that it was possibly a "torque converter shudder" and the second telling me I likely had bad front axle shaft(s). When I asked how to be sure it was the axle shafts, I was told the only way to tell was to replace them and see. So I checked, and Endeavor axle shafts are OMFG expensive, so that's not a gamble I want to take right now. Any ideas? For the record, I have 97,000 miles on it, the tires are a year old and the entire suspension is original to the vehicle.

I have an 04 Endeavor and noticed water in the rear spare wheel well. After a recent rain it appeared there might be water leaking in through the rear glass window seals. I havn't been able to pinpoint wear this water is coming from.
Has anyone had this problem? I did see there was a TSB about rear window leaks but havn't seen the details or possible fix.
Thanks!

So, I was researching replacements struts for the endeavor as I feel that it's swaying more than usual almost like our old 95 4runner. Is my conclusion correct that we can only get replacements from Mitsubishi???? I looked at KYB and Monroe and they do not list the Endeavor?

I need some help - new to forum and hoping this is helpful:
My 2004 Mit Endeavor just had a check engine light come on and I took to auto parts store to borrow scanner. When complete scan error read "Evaporative Emissions System - Small leak detected" error code PO456. Is there an easy and CORRECT way to fix this. I simply don't want the light to turn off. I've already checked the gas cap and this is tight.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody! After changed the spark plugs myself in my 2004 Mitsu Endeavor , I discovered that if I have my heater or air conditioner on,the car can`t be running when shifter moving from ``Park`` position to ``drive``. I hear a big noise from the timing belt, but car will not start. But after turning off the fan, the car starts and runs great. What do you think is the problem. Thank you

HI. I got a question. I was thinking about changing the radio from ls series ( w/o cd changer and sub ) to unit from se ( w cd changer and sub) is there anything else I have to change or its just the unit? I know that I have to buy amp and sub but I just want to know if the unit will fit.

Hi, All
I am a new member here from Toronto. I just got a 07 LS AWD with 22 thousand miles yesterday. Great truck!
I do have a small problem with the gear shifter. When it's in D it can be moved about half way towards N. It will not switch to N accidentally, so it seems safe and everything, but it should not be that loose.
I know that this particular truck has 2 outstanding recalls, one of them # C0803M SHIFT INTERLOCK. The problem described in the recall is not the looseness, but that the key can be removed from the ignition while D is selected. However, I found a document describing the repair step by step and it looks like it may address the play in the shifter as well, but I don't know for sure until I take it in.
Anyone had this problem? Also I am wondering if I am correct presuming the recall work will fix my issue.
Thanks,
Yury

Hi, All
Just wanted to let everybody here know that there's a guy on eBay selling factory repair manuals on cd. He (I presume it's a guy

) will mail the cd and will also provide a link where you can download the files right away.
I just completed the download, haven't looked into it too closely yet.
The manuals are for 04-07.....At least this is how the ebay item describes them.
And, no, I am not that guy

Regards,
Yury
