I have an 04 Mitsubishi Endeavor LS 2wd with 155k. At 153k I had major leaks coming out of the valve covers but besides that she was running like a champ. Since I knew that getting to the Valve Covers would require plenum removal etc. I went ahead and had the mechanic change the spark plugs (oem), Timing Belt (OEM), Water Pump (OEM), Tensioner (OEM) and seals associated. After getting the truck back about a couple of days later in the morning after turning it on I heard a loud metallic clanking that would go away after the truck warmed up (and no other drivability issues besides the horrible noise). I took it back to the mechanic and he came with an excuse that the valves were sticking. Since I am in Puerto Rico the island of excuses, I just accepted it and left because I am just fed up with arguing here and what a coincidence that I never had the noise up to the day prior to taking the truck to get worked on.
I really would like to get an idea of what it could be, and at this point debating just driving it as is or invest in a 9 year old truck again to have everything torn down to rectify the problem. I want to ship it back to the states in July when I return (because not having payments, and the fact that everything equivalent now a days is $30k plus, helps any recent grad) but I am starting to think this just make it more than it's worth and I will have to break down and buy a new car SMH.
Thanks in advance.
PS. I just had a semi-synthetic oil change also and the noise is there in case that info helps.

I found a shop who will install parts I provide instead of charging 20% markup on overpriced OEM. Can anyone recommend a good value for pads and rotors, should I need both? TIA

I have limited AWD, when today I got stuck in snow front wheels were spinning and rear wheels did not do anything. Why rear wheels did not push? How AWD is working on Endeavor? Is it all time or electronically controlled by sensor ? How can I check if AWD is working or not?
Thanks

I have an issue that I can't figure out and was hoping I could get some help. Sometimes when I stop at lights the rpms drop and enigne idles low and sometimes will stall. Strange thing is that it doesn't do it everytime and sometimes it doesn't stall. I have the 04 endeavor and this started about two weeks ago.
I had the battery and alternator checked and they were fine. Guy told me to check idle air valve. Another friend recommended that it could be a clogged fuel injector and assumed that while running it gets fuel and when I stop at lights and idle it's starving for fuel. Please let me know if you have had this issue and know what I can look for to resolve. I have never put an injector cleaner in so could possibly be something there.

I was wondering how difficult it is to install the timing belt on the endeavor. I've changed all other belts, steering, alternator,etc... just wondering if this is something that could be a DIY project to save money on. Does this belt just get replaced or does it have to be adjusted like a chain requiring a strobe?

Hi,
I left my car 7-8 months in garage, did no drive at all, some time started engine to lubricate. Today I started engine and I was going to take a ride after long time, it works fine if you have foot on gas, if it is on idle it shuts down!!!! rpm goes up and down and shuts down. I remember that this car did not have battery for a few days. do u guys know what might be a problem? Computer? memory? need reprogram? Anybody had this problem?
Thanks

Car won't start at the pump after getting gas. Takes 3-5 tries before it will start. Otherwise it starts and runs fine. This only happens at the pump after getting gas. Suggestions?

When the car is first started, the battery light on the dash stays on for a while, then goes off, usually after 3-7 minutes or so. I hooked up a voltmeter to the battery (which is new), and it hangs below 11v until the alternator kicks in. When it does, everything works like it should. The belt is pretty new and tension feels right. Connectors feel good too. Is there such a thing as a "lazy" alternator? I'm getting this car ready for my daughter to take to school, just getting everything sorted out before she takes it 5 hours away. BTW, the ABS problem turned out to be the LF wheel speed sensor.

I'm ready for some new rubber on my 2007 LS AWD and after alot of reading find myself interesteed in the General AltiMAX HP. This time around I would like to slighty change the profile and footprint and do so without having to go to new rims and larger diameter.
The std. tire size for the ende is the 235/65/17 and this size is available in the Altimax. The next tire size up would be 255/60/R17 and gives me a slighty higher speed rating and adds an additional 300lbs for towing capacity, a possible consideration since I may be moving cross country this year.
I know the difference in the 2 tires sizes I described isn't a whole lot, (about .75 inch width), and believe the 255 width should fit ok. My question is with change in performance and handling, we know this vehicle to be a little sensitive to change. Soliciting any thoughts about the tire size difference of experience with different brands, I don; see a whole lot mentioned here.
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.....

im wanting an AUX input for my Endeavor, i dont have the Infinity unit. I recently ordered an FM modulator i was going to install, but a friend of mine suggested i might be able to swap over to the Infinity unit from a car thats in the junkyard. For some reason this never occurred to me.
My question, is the Infinity unit a direct swap for the non-infinity unit? Also, is it the Infinity unit with a 6 disc unit? or is it 1 big unit? i dont care about a cd changer, all i want is the AUX mode.
Any help is appreciated.
edit: 2007 model just in case you need to know

Here's a good one for you SRSONE:
All doors lock and alarm sets fine when using the key in the lock cyl on the door.
Using the key fob tho (either one), all doors except the drivers door lock. Unlocking using the fob is the same pattern.
The door lock switch on the drivers door only unlocks. Pushing it to lock side does nothing.
Can a faulty door lock switch block the fob function? Or bad ETACS?
The fact that the lock cyl works everything tells me that all wiring is in place.
Whaddya think?

I'm hoping there might be someone on here who could offer a tip or two- I'm trying to remove a (I really wish I knew the exact name of this part, it'd make describing it a lot easier!) rear, driver's side suspension link from a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor.
What happened is this- My wife hit a piece of debris on the freeway. It managed to dent and bend this part badly enough so that the alignment is now off, and it can't be dialed back in. I found the replacement part at my local dealership, and the piece is only connected with 2 bolts. Seems like a pretty easy fix/swap out! Well, the chassis side bolt came out pretty easily. However, the wheel side bolt seems to be jammed at where it connects to the wheel. I've been trying to disconnect it for an hour or two now, sweating and cussing, and I'm about to finally admit defeat. $160 at the dealership to have those guys remove... One bolt. It's killing me, any of you guys have any tips before I call the tow truck? It's a ball joint on lower side, with a threaded bolt with nut protruding through the top side of where it mounts to the wheel. It looks deceptively easy to remove, but that thing is just jammed in there! I've hit it with WD-40, whacked on it with a hammer, tried to spin it with pliers, tried to work it back and forth with a deep socket wrench... and it's not even budging a millimeter.
It's a bit hard to describe, so I've included a picture. Any tips/advice you guys have would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!
-Jeff

I'm wondering if there is any way to test an Ignition Coil after it is off the engine.
I have a '06 Endeavor that his throwing me a misfire code from one of the back cylinders. I've been putting this job off since it sounds a little more difficult. I've already had to replace one of the ignition coils, however luckily it was in front.
It could be just the plugs that are bad in the back cylinders since I don't think they've ever been replaced. Is there way once I have the entire vehicle apart to determine if it is the plug or the coil that is malfunctioning?
Thanks,
Chris

My 04 endeavor has a check engine light and it reads that the cat in inefficient. I then took it to a friends muffler shop and he cut them both out to check if they where clogged but they where perfect so I gave up and took it to the dealer. They said the problem is that it has poor fuel burn and needed a tune up. I just changed the plugs 5 months ago and air filter. What does poor fuel burn mean?
Thanks

05 Endeavor: This is my daughters vehicle. She took it to Auto Zone to have the codes read and they said that the Mass Airflow Sensor needs cleaning. The first guy she talked to said to use carb cleaner. The second guy said not to use carb cleaner, use mass air flow sensor cleaner instead. He sold her a can and on the instructions it says not to use on Mitsubishis. We are not sure what to believe at this point. What can you use to clean the Mass Airflow Sensor?
Thanks

The shop changed my timing belt (and water pump), but the timing belt covers (three of them?) crumbled when they tried to put them back on. The shop didn't charge me for the parts ($180 on the invoice) and gave me a loaner while waiting over a week for the parts to arrive. But is this normal?
SUV is running great at 101k and, as might executed after a tuneup with new plugs, smoother than it was before. Still very happy with this vehicle after 6 years.

I recently purchased a 2006 Endeavor LS with 89K miles knowing that the T-belt had not been replaced which factored into my purchase price. I have quotes of approximately $1800 from the only local Mitsubishi dealer and $1200 from 2 different indy shops. All services include T-belt, water pump, accessory belts and coolant flush. However, my preferred shop also mentioned that Alldata recommends this maintenance at 100K, not 60K, miles. Has anyone else heard of this? It would give me some piece of mind (and help my wallet) if I could defer this for about 6 months.

I have narrowed the problem but can't solve it. Don't have money for dealer yet. Out of all warranty.
Just noticed a lot of water under front seat after driving through heavy rain. Never had that issue that people complained about.
Next day, my daylight running lights will not go off when key is removed. Thought it was just it. So I disable it. Next day battery had died, so obviously another or multiple thing was/were draining the battery. Did a check and when I remove the blue 15A fuse for the dome lights, the short goes away and my ammeter reads virtually nothing. Connect this fuse and I get short reading.
Apparently, this fuse is also responsible for my DRL being on when systems are supposed to be off. This fuse is also used by the radio and the communication system. If I remove it, my keyless system is disabled, no radio.
In short, there is a short between DRL, Dome lights and my radio. Does anybody have a wiring diagram where I may be able to see where they all meet? I think the water might have gone into a connected and is causing this problem.
For now, I remove the fuse when I am leaving the car for long.
I can remove the dash if that is what it takes to solve this problem. I am sure someone else can also help me out with the rain leak as well. I was never part of that conversation because I thought my car did not have that problem every time I inspected it after rain.
Thanks.

Hi everybody! I got 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor X LS ,it was purchased about two years ago and today I tried to change spark plugs. When I took it out from engine, I found oil on the whole length of the thread. I know, based on my previous experience, that it is very bad for other cars. I am not sure if it is bad for Mitsubishi cars as well. Can anyone please tell me if it is normal or not. Also, after installing the new spark plugs, rpm went down from about 900 to 100. Can anyone also tell me how I can fix this problem. Thank you everyone for your responses.

Does anyone have access to the complete guide to parts numbers? I'm trying to determine what the part number is for the retaining nut for the screws that are used to adjust the headlights beams up and down. I have seen similar retaining nut but don't know if they will work. I've included a picture for reference. Thanks.

I'm upgrading my head unit in my 04 LS and just wanted to get a couple of questions answered. The Mitsubishi dealership here in Olympia Washington is a joke and could not help me.
How do I determine if I have the Infinity sound system? I would presume the speaker covers would have the Infinity logos, but I don't see them anywhere.
Does all of the 2004 Endeavors come with an amplifier?
Pictures to come after the install.

I have had a clicking sound coming from behind my dash. It sounds like it is coming from behind the a/c ven on the right (passenger side/center dash) or to the left of the glove box. It seems like when I turn the Ac on and off it interrupts the sound???
The known leak from the a/c that keeps my floor board wet... Was there ever a recall for that???
My infinity 6 disc player Never worked correctly , sometimes I cannot load or eject disc.
I needy new tires and it sounds like my breaks are SQuealing, It even makes the loud whistling noise when I am nit pressing on my breaks.... My endeavor has seen better days, w/ 130k miles.... I am trying to keep her together

Hi, I have been on these forums from time to time but this is the first time that I am posting on it. I have a couple of issues with my wife’s 2004 Endeavor (I know, the first year and worse year of the Endeavor) and was hoping someone on here can help me out. First problem we had on the Endeavor was a whirring sound coming from the drive train area. After reading in the forums here it sounded just like the propeller shaft issue that this 04 Endeavor is known for. So I got one from an 05 Endeavor out of the Junk yard that only had 32,000 miles on it and it seemed to fix it for a month and now it still continues to make that whirring noise like a belt squealing but it’s not the belts. I pretty much gave up on this problem and moved on with my life.
Another issue I have is the Sportronic option on the car ( the manual shifting or slap stick some people call it) is not working correctly anymore. Sometimes when I go to shift up or shift down it will skip gears or not shift at all. I looked these issue up and came down with the Sportronic switch assembly has gone out. Does this sound correct? If so, why can I not find it anywhere to purchase one?
The last issue we are having now is when the vehicle is moving slowly like trying to park it in the basement or just going at low speeds and turning, the steering shakes a little bit and you can feel vibration in the steering column. When I listen during the steering process I can hear the wine of the power steering get louder but the fluid is in normal operation level. Could it be that the pump is not working correctly? Anyways, thanks in advance for any help.

This is my second Endeavor. I purchased this 2005 just couple months ago. LOVE it.
I have read most of this forum, especially on custom radio and dvd installs and did not get much help, so this is my story:
I wanted to install a Double Din DVD player and not the Flip out screen player (Getto, in my opinion). I finally picked
Pioneer - Satellite Radio/Apple® iPod®-Ready In-Dash Deck with 6.1" Touch Screen, Model: AVH-P4000DVD
This unit is newly released as of 5/23/2008 Double Din DVD player at an affordable price (relatively speaking). It is a Bad **** unit. It plays MP3 DVD songs, DVD's, USB and I-pod. It has a pretty strong build-in amplifier, which sounds amazing even with the factory speakers. I Bought mine at Best Buy at $449, its also available at Crutchfield.com at $499. After several weeks of research, it's worth purchasing this unit or higher if you have the budget. (does not come with Ipod cable, Blue tooth receiver, Digital radio receiver, or TV tuner.) Don't purchse the TV tuner yet, since they are currently analog and will not work next year when the broadcasts go digital.
Also, it's possible to bypass the moving guard on this unit. You can drive and watch the DVD's at the same time. On some units you can't do that, it has to be in-park to watch the DVD. You also don't need a button switch, it can be bypassed automatically with certain module.
Installation:
At first, I was going to do it myself, but I soon changed my mind, since my F-ups probably would cost me more to repair. So, I went to BestBuy and Circuit City. Morons at both places told me that it's IMPOSSIBLE and that the dash is one unit.
So I went to a local custom shop. (I live in Georgia, North Metro Atlanta)
Place called
Xtreme Sounds, Highway 92, Woodstock, GA 30189
Phone: (678) 445-2999
I got the best service. I highly recommend them if you live locally.
They did an amazing job with the dash for $320, which believe me, is much cheaper than many other quotes i got for the quality, that's why I am promoting them. Check out the pics yourself.
It took them all day to install.
The Endeavor Dash is NOT one unit. Dash has a plastic cover in-front, and everything is separate behind it. It is possible to have an after market radio and still have the Factory display on, it has separate hook-ups.
Next step is to update the speakers, probably from Crutchfield.com and install the subwoofer in the back. If you are not looking for crazy bass, I was told by the shop that an 8inch Shallow Subwooder would fit in the rear panel, so you don't have a box in the SUV.
Here is what I spent or plan to on a very nice System:
DVD player - $449
Separate Ipod Cable - $30
In-dash install - $380 (I had 3 RSA's pre-wired for ams for $20/each)
1CH Bass Amplifier with an installation - $330
4 nice Speakers (front and rear) 45-55amp with installation - $350
Total - $1,580 - Very Nice System
You can cut out a lot of costs if you install speakers and amps yourself. Good luck
ITS WORTH IT. It's probably retarded that I traded the 40 inch LCD HD TV for 7in car TV, but for some reason, i like it better.
I look forward to your comments

I have been reading the posts about installing fog lights on a prewired Endeavor 2005 XLS and I am having a hard time removing the existing fog light cover bezel.
Also would anyone have an enlarged copy of the installation instructions similar to the ones on this ebay post:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-2008-MITSUBIS...809&vxp=mtrFrom what the picture shows, the existing fog light cover comes out by pulling it out. I am trying to do that, but it doesn't seem to come out by just pulling out and I am afraid to break anything if I pull too hard. Am I supposed to pinch the clips on the back as I pull??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Our 2007 Endeavor has an issue with it's security system: If you approach the car & unlock it with the remote key fob the alarm sounds when the door is opened. The alarm will stop when you push the unlock button again. And, when you open the drivers door with the key in the ignition (engine is off) all doors "try" to unlock. You can hear the locks trying to unlock. Very strange. Can anyone give me an idea what's going on here? Is it an issue with the security system? remote key fob? I've tried using the spare remote fob and we have the same problem with either one so I'm guessing it's not a key fob problem. Thanks in advance!

I noticed that the clear plastic cover for my third break light is broken. No signs of impact or trauma to it. It's like it just broke on its own for no reason. Anyone else experience this? I'm past the bumper to bumper warranty at this point and will either leave it or deal with it myself.

Hello. I have a 2004 Endeavor. Since like 4 or 6 months I'm having problems with the Liftgate & Glass Hatch. Sometimes it will open, but most of the times when I unlock all the car, only doors will open, and not the hatch or liftgate will open. It is very weird because sometimes will open, and sometimes not. I have not idea what should I do, please help me. thanks

2007 Endeavor LS AWD - 82k Miles
I recently had both check engine and tcl lights come on solid a day after a 65 mile trip through rain ice, and bad weather. Accompanying these lights on is a rough idle at low idling rpm's and vehicle shaking at higher ones when I tried to drive it. There is 1/2 tank of 91 gas and the gas cap is locked tight. I checked the oil and it was fine, I added fuel injector cleaner along with dry gas and ran the vehicle about 15 miles. None of this seemed to help. I took the vehicle to Autozone and had them read the error code for me which was P0300. The autozone person further said it was a Cyl #4 misfire. I took the vehicle to a repair shop and they ran a diagnostic. They proceeded to change out the coil on cyl #4 and a new error code showed up identifying a misfire in cyl. #6. They checked all the plugs and wires and found no problems. There was no evidence of a manifold gasket leak either. The timing belt on the vehicle has not yet been changed. After this they stopped and said I should take it to a dealer who has better diagnostics to identify the problem. I am concerned about what could be wrong. I have read alot and seems like most of the usual suspects have been eliminatedas the cause of the issue. Any help before I take this to a dealer would be greatly appreciated.

Motor turns over, but will not start. My daughter started it yesterday morning and only let it run for a few seconds, and shut it off. Now it fires and tries to start, and that is it. It acts like it is flooded. I have read the owners manual, and it says to hold the pedal down while cranking for 5 seconds, and then to start normally. Still won't start. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

I'm looking at buying a 2004 Endeavor, and I am wondering how easy I can put a 2006 Grill on there.
I prefer the way the 06's look..
Anyone ever do this?
Thanks

Hello all, well my poor Endy is living a slow death here in Puerto Rico (I regret shipping her here). In three months she has had her door handle ripped off, her front suspension links torn off, and today she was broken into. At any rate although the links where changed I did not consider the front sway bar bushings and I believe they are shot since everytime I go over a speed bump I hear & feel a clunk at the floor board plus she is swaying on turns. I have ordered new mitsubishi sway bar bushings and control arm bushings; my question is how difficult is it to change the sway bar bushings? I am sure the control arm bushings are going to require some professional press but want to be prepared and ensure I don't get ripped off. Thanks

HEy everyone, I have an 07 endeavor that just rolled 50K miles. I recently replaced both lower O2 sensors bank 1 and bank 2 about a month and a half ago. Today I find out that the engine light has come back on, I checked the code, and its p0421 warm up catalyst. Can an O2 sensor go bad in this ammount of time only a few months? I think my wife alternates between 87 and 89 octane gas, and I've told her many times not too, but unless I fill it everytime myself its a gamble. At 50k, should I change out the plugs? I pulled the front 3 and they show some wear with the white residue, but I've definately seen much worse. We are the second owners of the car, and I'm unsure if the plugs are original or if they were ever done in the past. Also not sure if this pertains to it or not, but it seems like there is always a fine "mist" of engine oil all over everything, all the time. I've degreased and power washed the engine in the past, and it always seems to come back.
Thanks
Mat
