ok tody i'm driving my 90 gst up I4 from tampa to orlando and i notice the temp. guage is rising.so i pull off to check it out but just as i exit the symbol for the radiator lights up and the car just dies..no sputtering nothing.just a silent death..
i filled the rad. and overflow(the were both empty and i had just topped them off this morning.
when i pour water inter the radiator while parked i have a leak that seems to coming from around where all the belts are(drivers side)..is this my water pump and are there any ways to test this or that to find my problem?
as you can tell i have no clue so im soo newb..

I posted on this forum how I bought a '98 Eclipse w/ 150,000 for 1500. Then there was a sensor that was wrong with it, so I put 150 more into it (would of been 70, but mitsubishi just puts random sensors on different cars).
I kept up w/ it, got oil changed, etc. Then my light started flickering, but wasn't staying on. So, like last time, I was going to get it a few days later since it wasn't staying on and plus I had 1,000 miles to go.
My car's engine exploded on the high way due to having no oil in there (so either it burned it all up or they barely put any oil in their?)....
So my question is.... should I just get a new car or get a brand new engine for only 800?Thanks...

i have been reading some articles about doing the mass air flow hack.
is this recomended?
taking the restrictor out of the boost control solenoid?
and also about removing the balance shaft?
any info would be great!!!

I got an error code of 'Low EGR Airflow' from my eclipse. When I pulled it apart to inspect it I noticed some water around the diaphram. Could this just be condensation? How else could water get inside the EGR? It wasnt dirty or oily and just seemed like regular water. Ive had this opened up before to clean the clogged lines and thought I closed it up good enough, but could water still seep inside?
I am also wondering what the part is next to the EGR. It was connected to a vacuum line which goes to the EGR and is bolted to the engine, round and somewhat flat. Is this the actual EGR or just a sensor? The vacuum assembly I thought was the EGR has an electrical connection, 3 vacuum hoses and has a diaphram which seems to control the flow of air. This assembly also has 'EGR --->' printed on it pointing towards the round sensor thing.
Anyone familiar with EGR systems? My car has been running much better since Ive cleaned the EGR and get better mileage, but the new trouble code has me worried.

i was talking to a friend of mine and i realized the 4G63 is old to me, the 420a old to me, im now wondering if the new 4g69 MIVEC from the new eclipse is close to the motors of old, just looking to seee how doable this swap idea is

Hi Guys. I just picked up a 98 GST spyder Auto. still waiting to recieve it. what are some things i should do first thing when i get the car?
change tranny oil and engine oil? stuff like that? whats a good way to improve fuel economy aswell.
Ive been reading a little bit on the forum and cant get a straight answer. How does the Auto GST perform? is it fast? 0-60 times? 1/4 times?
someone wrote the manual is faster than the 5spd (which is hard to believe)
First mod for it i think will be intake. I was looking at the K&N kit which they say adds 7-8 horse (let me know if this is true or a better way to go ie . cai? ) dont know anything bout mitsubishi's just love the look but performance is not my department with these. Fuel economy is a main concern because I have a big commute to work.
Also the auto trans has me worried a bit being in a sports car. Are they reliable? any problems with them? do they slip eventually? I know manuals are practically indestructable.

yesterday i was racing a 96 mustang.we were going at it.and when i would step on the gas all the way it would reb from 3000rpm tp 7rpm like an automatic transmission.i have never seen that happen on a stick shif tranny..but i smoked the mustang and then he got all crazy and ****..lol..wanted to fight..so its there something wrong with my cluch or engine does anyone know...thanx..

i own a 1998 Eclipse GST. the check engine light came on so i had someone scan it and it gave me the error code P0171. something about fuel bank 1. i have no idea what it is or where it is. i've asked around and i get so many different answers, like oxygen sensor, o ring, fuel injection, cat and some more. i figured this would be the right place to ask for help. does anyone know what my problem is?

hey guys i have 2 questions
1. i have a hood from a 90-91 t/e/l and it doesnt have the hump, i just wondered if this is rare?
2. Lately my 94 1.8 eclipse has been being stupid... It wont acclerate like it should, and in the mornings when i go to start it up, it like doesnt want to start, and when it does and i give it some gas, it dies as soon as i depress the pedel. Once it gets started it shakes really bad... when it stops shaking and i start to drive, around 2nd gear and/or 15-20 mph my check engine light comes on... do you know what this could be? any help would be great...
btw the only thing that is done to it now is i removed the silencer and the air conditioner is not belted right now...

I am having a problem with my 97 Eclipse (2.0L non-turbo) where it idles extremely rough around 700-800 RPM and stalls when I try to drive in gear. I noticed by accident that if I disconnect the PCV hose the car idles normally at 1K and dosent stall but it still is running a little rough and slightly pulses (or dips) on the RPM a little every 2-3 sec or so. Ive been driving it like this for a while since it dosent stall and the power seems all there when I accelerate, but the car occasionally revs up to 2K when I am driving in heavy traffic (engaging the clutch/gear brings it back to 1K).
Ive tried replacing the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, Ive sprayed throttle body cleaner into the tb and used numerous fuel injector cleaners over time, but the idling problem remains. A diag code shows I need a oxygen sensor replaced but I cant imagine this is the only problem. I am going to replace the sensor this weekend but would like a few ideas to try out while I am working on the car.
Does anyone have any suggestions? What can leaving the PCV hose disconnected do to an engine? I never thought the PCV valve did all that much to effect the performance of a car.

Hello guys,
As much as this sounds crazy to some of you, but I REALLY REALLY want to shoot some fire from my exhaust......NOW...... I know there are two ways to do it:
1) The old spark plug in the exhaust way
and
2) The Engine shutoff way or I think its called engine retard....anyways
The spark plug thingy is cool and cheap but after i saw a couple....they were pretty much lame cauz when the flames came out, the car didn't make that freakin awsome bang sound.... u know what i'm talking about!!!! It was more like the sound of burning gas.
The second way is what I need help in........i know ppl say its bad for the engine and stuff.....but its ok I GUESS?......that in mind....how can I get that........can this be done with bigger injectors/SAFC???? What other things I might need to upgrade to minimize the damage.....thnx guys...........peace

It's not a serious problem & I'm not too worried about it, but I was curious to know anyway? What does it mean when your car backfires? Does it mean that I'm getting too much fuel or what? It started when I changed my exhaust, but it's not a problem! I'm just curious to know why?

Well lets get started, about a week ago a drunk driver slammed into the driver side of my dear car

going about 50 in his suv. He snaped the bumper support beam straight in half and severly bent the frame of my car. I would have pictures but im disgusted by them. It would cost
$9,000 to fix my car and my insurance company blue booked it and it was worth $8,860. We bought the car for $6,000 on a loan. I was praying and hoping that my car would survive but today, the insurance company marked it as totaled. Since we bought the car off a loan, it is not ours and i could not take anything off it. When we get the money, we are paying the 6k and I am going straight to the junk yard to rip out my brand new engine and transmission that I had put in. 2,000 miles on the engine

i got a full blitz body kit done over the summer and a silver paintjob. and although most of the kit was done well and it looks overall good, for some reason i cant help but still not be happy with it. for the past two weeks or so thoughts have been running through my head about slapping the old body back on and painting it white, getting a turbo spoiler, and some black rims. the cost of paintjob doesnt bother me, i know the owner of the shop and i could paint the thing three times before i paid for one paintjob elsewhere. question is do yall think i should do that? i know its stupid to just spend the money on the kit a few months ago and then wanna take it off but i think i'd be happier with doin what i said above, think the lesson that i learned from this was not to do body work. whats ya'lls opinions?

Sup guys,
Due to the cooler weather in the mornings, the front windshield on my 99 GS Spyder are normally fogged. However, I notice that when I throw on the defrost on high that the front vents on top of the dashboard near the front windshield are not throwing out air nearly as strong as I think it should. Is this common? Could the vents be clogged? Is there a way I can unclog them? All the other vents throw out strong air. With winter coming shortly I definitely cant have this problem.

just wondering if anyone can help.....i bought a codl air intake system that has 2 tubes a short adn long. i was told when i bought it that i can have a short ram adn a codl air witht eh same kit depending on summer or winter but i dont know if this is true now. the short tube has a valve for the tube which goes to the vavle cover but i dotn think u can just use the small one because it doesnt give u enough room aroudn the battery. so i tried the larger tube it fits perfect but eh valve on that one is big adn the tube wont fit over it so i dotn kno what to do. i dont kno if i have to use both together adn that the kits is just for cold air. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE TO HELP ME THEN PLEASE HELP.

Hello ppl, i just bought a use 97 elcipse and it was running great, untill one day it just woudn't start up for me. I bought i new battery but it wont start up, the radio works, the lights are working...........everything works but it just won't start up. Can anybody help me?

jus wondering i got anew battery and a new alternator but the battery wont stay charged it will idle for alil then ill take the jumpers off anf it jsu spits and puts and back fires. i fully charged it when i got it. but i let it charge adn then i put it in it will run fine for alil then jsu die my uncle hooked a volt meter up to the battery and it wont hold the charge it just goes down then the cars dies. now the alternator is new adn i believe i hooked it up wirte because thers not a wrong way lol unless it came out of the socket ro sumtin.....so bad alternator...bad battery or a draw int eh system???/ i have no idea so if you can help me out alsop the clutch is new but it doesnt seem to let out all the way at first thent eh engine kcicks in adn goes so i dunno wats wrong wit it.

i finally got a 92 eclipse gsx. ACT 2600, 255 Fuel pump, maf Trans, lowered 1.5, RFL b.o.v,small 16g turbo, but the guy said the outlet was ported and it had something from a big 16g not for sure what cause i know there prett close, evo 3 o2 housing, 2g ported exuast manifold, and apex boost and egt gauge, and the maf trans is broken but i got one on the way, he put the stock one on now and it acts alittle wierd but not to bad, its getting too much fuel exspecially when at higher rpms. im not to sure about what else it has yet, i just got it today il add somemore tomarrow but just wondering what you guys thought would be best to get next, i know it needs tuned but im not sure who i can get to do that around here, northwestern indiana, or what i need to do that. i know it has bigger exhaust but no muffler and i dont think a cat either. so what do you guys think is next up

Hello,
My wifes 92 1.8L blew up awile back, and I couldn't seem to find another one for a descent price. There are plenty of 2.0L out there (used japanese engines) so I bought it. I know I will need a new brain for the car, and i was wondering if anyone has tried this or if knows a site that will list the interchangeable parts.. ie intake manifold, engine wireing harness, exaust manifold, clutch things of that nature. I purchased the long block. So any help of what i can use off of the 1.8L would help a lot.

I just bought a 92 Eclipse GS from the original owner for $650. With a new clutch, timing belt done recently, working a/c and tune-up, at 117K its a great deal. When i picked up, I thought it was a nice little car, good on gas. After driving it, I am now bitten by the bug, and must mod it a little. The headlights, like most older cars, have oxidation. I remember a product I used on my dads Intrepid called Plastx, but I cant seem to find it at Autozone, Oreillys, and the nearest Pepboys is a while away. I noticed with the Factory intake design, it seems I can remove the can from around the cone filter, and gain a little more breathing, but I know I will have to worry about water and change the filter more often. The exhaust is the factory SI/DO, sound kinda ricey at higher rpms, but I like that. I have owned a 63 Ford Falcon, 93 Isuzu Trooper, 71 Superbeetle, 88 Dodge Omni, and currently own a 85 Ram and 2002 F-150, thus I bought this car for fuel efficiency. The cars going to get a piantjob come January, the interior is flawless except a tear in the headliner. Heres the questions I have...
What is a good catalog order other than JEGS, JCWhitney, or Summit racing?
What is a cheap and good sounding(throaty) muffler for these 2.0L DOHC?
What engine oil(synthetic or synthetic blend) do these engines prefer? It seems my f-150 sounds quieter w/synthetic. Also what weight/viscosity.
Are there any free mods on this car? (just labors and some know how).

Hey all,
Got another slight problem. Whenever my car idles, it's fine, no white smoke. If I give it ANY Gas, white smoke pours out of my exhaust. Ofcourse, this is almost always looked at as a blown head gasket or crack head etc, I'm trying to aim at something else. My turbo also sounds like complete crap, sounds like my spool is either broken and whacking around the turbo, or it's really loose in there. Because of that sound, it makes me think that it's just the turbo pouring oil into my exhaust.
Now the thing is, if I give it gas, I get white smoke, right after I stop on the gas, it's not smoking. I had a problem before with my last engine where it would push out black smoke when I gave it a large amount of gas. Now, it's white smoke with any amount of gas.
I'm thinking of tearing into it maybe this weekend if not further down the road. Any suggestions?

i have about 2g's what should couls be a prettty good upgrade.i have port and polished heads,aem cold intake,aem cam gears,3in `catback,stage 4 cluch.what could i go with???what would u people recomend..car has 93k...but my cluch kinda feels weird i have to let the cluch out alot so it could move..is there a fix..

I've got a 1997 Mitsu Eclipse with a 1.8L engine. Which has finally taken its last breath. Can i replace this engine with a 2.0L engine farely easily or is this going to have to be a direct swap for another 1.8L? and why? Thanks everyone.

What is the sweet spot in your car?
In other words at what speed does your car tend to have the most power?
Is it a turbo or non turbo and or what type GS, RS or GST?
Does anyone have any good ideas as to how we can broaden the power range on our cars?
Mines is a non turbo GS automatic, it picks up the between 70-80 mph and tires screetch sometimes going into 2nd and or 3rd runs like a pocket rocket from there
I only have a shorty air intake and magnaflow muffler.

I'm getting a 95 eclipse from a friend, he built the engine up with a jdm 420a??? he says. He says it has a jdm oil pan and the valve cover looks JDM cause its red and looks like a JDM valve cover. The car doesnt run now because he was driving one day and a rock got up into timing belt and made the belt jump because he didnt replace the timing belt cover. This car is worth it and, hes selling it to me cheap. Reasons.... it has a poly urathane body kit on it already, euro tail lights, tint, headlights, rims... ive been looking around town and am having a hard time finding a 420a engine, i talked to a mechanic at a junk yard and he said that they are hard to come by now a days cause they are crappy engines. I found a bad bottom ended 420 sitting out at the one junk yard. Build that one up from the bottom end???? My other thought was to find a 2.4 neon/stratus engine. what would i have to do to swap that. I've heard that they were almost identical its just the 2.4 is stroked out version of the 2.0l. Any sugestions thoughts and ideas are welcome... I was thinking about a
