OK So...I had the engine bay steam cleaned (99 galant 3.0L) against my better judgment. I drove about 5 blocks and it died. I had to have it towed home. It cranks but it wont start at all. All the fuses look good. No engine light or anything as far as I can tell. I even changed the cap and rotor, Its getting fuel to the manifold but It doesn't seem like im getting any spark.
Any Suggestions..I don't know where to start looking....

So witch one should i choose ? from the start you only heard bad things about the GDI motor but now every one says that you should go with the 2,4 GDI motor and not the 2,0 liters.
And no the v6 is nothing for me...
Another thing, after you click Galant. you come to this screen were you pick what generation you want to look at the years are wrong.. for ex the 8gen is from 97 till 01

Im trying to replace my dome light bulb (interior ceiling) with one of those bright led ones because the ones that are in there now are not very bright at all. So i looked up the bulb number for the dome bulb on sylvanias website as well as my local autoparts store and it comes up as DE3175 which look like this
https://app.infopia.com/velocity/images/FESTOON/50058.jpg So i ordered the brighter led bulbs in that size and after recieving them and getting to the dome light bulbs in the car the ones in the car are completely different, there about a half an inch longer, skinnier and have 2 metal wire clips sticking out each end of them that connect to the power source does anyone know what the model number for these bulbs is? i couldnt find out anywhere and it doesnt say anything on the bulb itself. car is a 99 Galant

Ok, heres the deal, on my 2000 Galant i have no ouput from my data link connector, (the OBD tool wont even turn on when you turn the key on and have it plugged in) but i have 10 volts running to pin 10 and .5 volts running to pin 9. Not sure what there is supposed to be to turn the Diagnostic tool on. ( could somebody tell me what that is supposed to look like if you stick a probe in it to test for voltage?)
Second question, what is the second data link connector that is mounted right next to the first one for?
Third, Is the fuse for the OBD system in the underhood fuse box? I dont have an owners manual, so i cant really tell what the heck these are other than the symbols (mine says CHECK on one fuse spot, but there is no corresponding fuse installed.) A missing fuse shouldnt be the problem however since i have voltage to the plug in for the Diagnostic tool should it?
So i guess im asking for any tips on how im supposed to tell if my computer is fried, and asking where the OBD fuse is located.
Any help would be great. Thanks

My daughters 03 galant es 2.4 had a small exhaust shield rust off. I'm trying to find a place to order it from but I'm not sure what the part is called or where to order it from. It is a small 12in. shield that is located between the engine and the catylitic converter sort of in a S bend configuration. Would anyone know what this part is called and where I can possibly find it?

I replaced the upper radiator hose 1 year ago and notice that there is a small leak on the attachment to the engine. I've tightened the philips style clamp and tried to move the clamp inorder to find a better position yet still leaking slowly. I noticed that where the PVC hose attaches to the engine there is a bump on the metal and the clamp seems to have a problem clamping down. Should the PVC hose be pushed all the why in?

Hi All,
Yesterday I set out to change the starter in my 1999 Galant ES V6. Halfway into the job I realized the top bolt (of the two that hold the starter on) has a head that is broken off. There is maybe 2-4 mm of the actual bolt sticking out, but I used a mirror and verified that the head is cleanly broken off.
I've done some reading and the conventional wisdom is to remove a broken bolt with vice grips or by tapping/drilling out the bolt. I don't think there is enough bolt or elbow room for the vice grips, so that is probably not an option. This leaves me with driilling out the bolt. It looks like removing the exhaust pipe may give me a limited amount of access (between the radiator and starter) to the starter. Once this is off, how difficult do you think it would be to get the bolt out? What kind of tools would I need?
The alternative is to tow it to a mechanic, which is what I'd normally do with a job like this but money is fairly tight. However, I don't want to buy a bunch of special tools only to throw in the towel later on and pay for the tools and the mechanic. Keep in mind that I've done alternators, starters, brakes, and radiators, but am not a serious mechanic by any measure.
Thanks in advance.
Mark

I'd like an upgrade to slotted,slotted/vented, or drilled rotors.I have a V6 & think I'll do just a front set for now.I wont be racing, but a performance street improvement would be nice. Anyone have any brands they would recommend? Does anyone else have pulsating brakes on an 8G Galant? I have a 99 GTZ thats been in the shop for new rotors & pads,& I still have the problem.Thats one reason I'm doing a rotor upgrade, plus a little extra stopping power would be great anyhow. Thanks!

Hi. Two observations
1. Radio display light is dim when I start the car and after a few minutes it goes bright, I'm not sure if that's normal?
2. Rear defroster, when turned on dims dash lights, slows down blower and revs up the idle. Again is that normal?
I was wondering if I have a defective fuse, wire or my battery?

So I picked up a 2000 Galant locally on the cheap side. I brought it for diagnostics today and found out it needs some repairing. Can anyone give me a price range for the repairs? The items are 02 sensor pre cat, A CAM sensor, A VAF sensor, spark plug wires to coils and a valve cover gasket.
There's also some front end damage, how much would it cost to fix?

Hi, I am new to the forum and learning things left and right. Wondering if anybody can help on this. My mother's car just all the sudden 2 days ago just stalls if you dont keep your foot on the gas. There of course was a code so i read it with an OBD-2 reader and it was a Mass Air Flow Sensor (P0102). Now on that is there any chance i can just clean it and hope to god that it kicks itself back into gear? And there was another code.... Incorrect Gear 2 Ratio (P0732). So i pulled the transmission dipstick out and the fluid was nice and BLACK and BURNT smelling. Which of course are all signs of BAD! My mom also told me the car is locking up on her on the road and she thought it was the brakes, but apparently its the tranny??? So at this point is there anything that can be done with the tranny or should it be kissed goodbye??? Thanks for all help!!!! Momsgalant Please any info would help greatly.

On a 2001 Galant, I only have 2 side splash guards inside the fender wells. I have no front shields, but I can't find any confirmation that there should be. Should we have these? I can't get a dealer to confirm anything except the two side pieces, but the right side has a fastener hole that would suggest there should be more plastic shields under the front bumper. Just laying on the ground looking up towards the pulleys, it seems like way too much is exposed. My '02 Lancer is fully shielded across the front and sides underneath.
Any help, pictures, or parts links would be awesome.

Hello,
I posted some miscellaneous questions about the 2003 Galant ES V6 I recently purchased in an adjoining topic. One other issue with this car appears to be some sporadic rhythmic noise that is barely audible, but becomes louder at times depending on the road. I fancy that it is coming from the right front, but the noise has a bit of resonance to it, like a really soft drumming, that makes it hard to pin down. It is most noticeable at about 40 mph on a flat surface or slight downhill, and it occasional seems worse on corners. The mechanic who did the vehicle inspection mentioned that one or both of the front axles were becoming worn, and although it is minor now, one or both probably should be replaced sometime in the near future. After I noticed this noise, I took the vehicle back to the mechanic and had him listen to the noise and he thought it was likely the axle or bearing I am hearing.
I have some experience with other vehicles replacing hubs, bearings, speed sensors (when equipped with ABS), disk brake pads, rotors, and such. Although the engine compartment of this car seems a bit intimidating, especially the rear three spark plugs, I always enjoyed working on brakes, and usually perform at least that much work on my own vehicles. I have not replaced an axle before, but when I had the hub/bearing/speed sensor problem on another vehicle (a Pontiac), the axle was right there. I wonder if anyone has replaced an axle on the Galant, and if it was a relatively straightforward job for the home, somewhat challenged, mechanic.
Best regards,
tsumeb

Hello,
I just purchased a clean 2003 Galant with about 92K miles. I took it to a mechanic before I bought it and they pronounced it to be pretty solid, but needing of some routine maintenance for a car of that age--tune up, belts, automatic transmission service and such. I have had it for a few days now and had a few questions.
I notice Mitsubishi recommends that the 3.0L V6 is run on premium gas, 92 octane, but it can be run on regular or mid range with some loss of performance. Anyone have any experience with engine using regular fuel?
I see that Haynes publishes a
Mitsubishi Galant 1994-2003 Repair Manual. Does anyone have experience with this manual, or can anyone recommend some other manuals?
This car has lights on the vanity mirrors and one seems to be burnt out. I see no mention of that bulb in the owner's manual and did not see one listed as a result of a general Google search. I could probably pull one out and try to match it to one of the many on-line bulb sources, but wondered if anyone knew the bulb number. I did see another forum topic on this issue, but it did not appear to be resolved.
This car has Mitsubishi's standard non-premium audio system (am/fm/cd), and below, a six CD changer. The display on the radio is a standard liquid crystal type, and appears to not be back illuminated, at least on mine. Is this correct? At night, I cannot see the time or the status of the station or CD I am listening to. This seems odd. I wonder if there is a backlight that is burnt out, and if so, can it be replaced?
Best regards,
tsumeb

Car is a 99 galant 4 cyl auto. Im trying to replace the trans mount thats on the driver side of the car (right under the battery). I got all the nuts and bolts out and the mount is free and ready to come out, 2 things that are causing a problem in removing the mount. Theres a small metal plate that has the bolt hole for the battery tray that prevents the mount from being lifted up and out, i pryed that out of the way and now the mount can almost be lifted up and out exept now i cant pull it up high enough off of the studs the stick up out of the trans that the mount itself goes on without hitting on the metal brackets that the mount sits in. I bought a haynes manual from my local car parts store and all that tells me is to remove the nuts and bolts and the mount will come off (thanks for nothing). Does anyone know the correct procedure for removing and reinstalling this mount?

When i would be driving and accelerate the noise would stop but once i took my foot off the gas the noise would start? SOme buddies i talked to thought maybe it was the timing belt It stopped making the noise all together for about 2 weeks then it started again. I live in minnesota so i dont know if its from the weather and stuff is freezing or what. Any ideas

I have been trying to find something for this problem and I am happy that I found them! Instead of getting a new dashboard (that cost waaaay too much!) I just paid waaaaaay less to get on overlay and the outcome was incredible!!!

The Blower switch for turning the A/C on and off the light has burned out and I would like to know the size, and for the defrost switch also.
Thanks
Ps if anyone needs to see where these little bulbs are located, so you can change them. I have pics.
[attachment=11926:fix_it_09.JPG]
[attachment=11928:fix_it_08.JPG] Remove socket there are four.
[attachment=11929:fix_it_07.JPG] Pull on wire that connects to bulb and then slide bulb out.(Some bulb have cover so keep it if you want the same light color)
[attachment=11927:fix_it_05.JPG] Replace bulb. Wrap wires back. Re-install
****************
In these pics I used LED. I do not recommend LED unless you know how to install.
Radio Shack has little 12v lights but size is bigger but they should fit, but I would recommend the correct size. And if you can find them let me know! Thanks!

Hello - I have an 01 Galant with 175000 miles and some change. I've recently got a check engine light and the code reads P1751 main control transmission. not all the time but sometimes from a dead stop when I go to accelerate, the car gets real sluggish, almost as if it were trying to start out in a higher gear (you have to floor the gas pedal to get any real acceleration). I know I need to change out my transmission fluid, but does anyone have a clue about the code, or the symptoms I've described? Thank you!

I have expereinced the common heater control valve failure. I removed the metal arm and pushed it into the open position and now have heat again. Everything seems to work fine, heat, ac, etc. So why bother replacing it? I know it the AC would operate more efficiently if it were able to close. But is that it? Do I risk damaging anything if I just leave it in the open position? Thanks in advance.

I want to replace my fog lights bulbs with some new ones I bought to match my headlights.
I see there is 1 screw that holds the fog light in place. The screw looks stripped, but I am still able to turn it, even though it feels kind of "stiff" when I do. I unplugged the connection from underneath and then tried to wiggle the fog light a little bit, but it just won't budge. Am I missing something? Help please!

Nevermind people. I figured it out myself. (That 1 screw I mentioned was never supposed to come out. Ha!)
