Hi,
Newbie on the forum here. I just bought a 99 Galant for my daughter and noticed it's missing the CD cartridge. It looks like the factory unit and only shows the numbers W128. Anyone know where to purchase these items. Would be greatly appreciated. My daughter will be happy too.
Thanks all.

My Galant has about 120,000 miles on it. Has been a great car until a about a month ago. When I have my car in park or at a stop it idles very rough. It pans out at high revs but it still feels diffrent. Two Spark plugs have a little oil on them. Any ideas would help greatly. Also gas mileage sucks bad.

My '02 Galant has been having problems with the heater. It would take a week for it to come on and it has been getting longer and longer. Just before it starts blowing heat I hear a noise from under the dash. Well finally it's been about 3 weeks and it has failed to come on so I took it in to a Mechanic today. He said it was the Heater control Actuator which opens and closes the door. They're fixing it tomorrow morning hopefully it works cuz it's getting cold outside.

I have a 2002 Galant 4 cyl and we all know the brake rotors are prone to warping. I have replaced 5 sets only to have all of them warp within six months of driving. I have recently heard that aftermarket rotors can solve this problem. I want to try.
Can everyone please give me some advice on what rotor/pad setup is the best. Specifically, has anyone had repeated rotor warping issues and bought a specific name brand and style of rotor that has solved this problem?
Rotor brand name, (cross drilled, slotted, etc...) (pads, semi-metallic, ceramic, etc...) I would love to hear your stories and hopefully your solutions!

Hi All, Well i will start at the beginning, i bought this mistsi 99 reg galant 2.0 gls on friday, the bloke had informed me that he had had another alternater fitted after he had used the air con to demist the windows with the car ticking over and it had killed the alternater.
saturday started it and it seemed slow to turn over but got me to work and back fine (12 miles) then on sunday, decided to take the missus out and after 10 miles the abs light came on, another 3 miles the src light came on, then another 2 miles and the car dies. luckily i had managed to get off the motorway.
Calls out the rescue company and he does some tests on the car and he tells me its the alternater, the test meter was reading between 10.4v to 13.06v, he reckons its breaking down under load or heat.
So yesterday i ordered another alternator, which has been tested and is fine, and have just fitted it, and it's still only putting out 10.4 volts.
I have checked the fuses for the battery and alternator, ( the 60 and 100 amp ones in the engine compartment fuse box and these check out fine).
I have recleaned all the connectors and checked they are all tight and these are all good.
I have swapped the battery for a good known working fully charged battery, and it still does the same, 10.4 volts when the engine is either ticking over or revved, still no change.
Please can someone tell me if there's anything i have overlooked or missed, i spent all my money on the car, and had to borrow the money brgrudgingly from the missus to pay for the alternater, and don't want to have to ask her to pay for it to go to an auto electrician to find out whats the problem.
I had hoped that it being japanese, it would be reliable, but this is driving me mad.
thanx in advance
andi

Hi, If somebody can help, I have a Galant, 2003, 84000KM: few months ago, I tried to start the engine, the battery was gone, and I forced it to start, then the car didn't start. I change the battery with a new one, and from that day the car is pinging at low RPM (up to 3600 TPM approx). it seems like no power, and te problem is bigger when AC is on. I clean EGR valve, reset the PCM, change the fuel filter, add fuel cleaner, and clean the air filter, but still the same problem. Any suggestion before i start to replace all electrical device as per dealer agency request?
Thanks

I think I blew a fuse trying to hardwire my Sirius into the power behind the radio and now I can't get to the radio fuse to replace it. I thought it would be in the passenger compartment fuse box, but there's not a fuse in the radio slot in there, so it must be the engine compartment one. Well there's this yellow box around the radio fuse and the dome light fuse in the engine compartment and I can't get the fuse out of it or that box off of there to replace it without breaking it. Does anyone know how to do this? Is this box even important? Thanks.

Hi guys and gals.
I'm really hoping someone can help me with a problem that is both driving me nuts and embarrassing.
I have an 02 Galant ES 2.4L 4 cyl that squeals like a stuck pig especially when its cold outside (usually not too noticeable when it's warm out). When the car was under warrranty, I took it back to the stealer and they replaced all the belts. This seemed to help for a while, but it didnt take long for the squealing to start once again. I suspect it is a bad bearing in any one of the pulleys that the belts are turning. Anybody know of a way to pinpoint the pully/part that is causing the squealing? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Tired of being embarrassed by my squealing Galant . . . gman

Does anyone know if the 01 Galant has an emergency trunk release? I have an 01 GTZ and the truck won't open with neither the driver side release lever nor the key. It opened fine up until this weekend at which time I opened it normally with the key, loaded some luggage, closed it normally, got in started the car, remembered I needed something out of the luggage, tried the inside release, it didn't work, turned off the car, tried the key and it wouldn't work. I looked through the rear passenger access to see if a strap or anything got hung up in the latch but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The only odd thing I noticed was that the trunk light was on, and has been on ever since.

I have a problem with my 2000 Galant GDI. When idling or driving the cars acceleration power goes up and down erratically on its own. This is not a consistent problem but is getting much worse. This shows in the revs, changing from between 500 and 3000. It feels very jerky and is starting to really annoy me. I am taking it back to the dealership today as it has a warranty for repair but I would really appreciate anyone’s thoughts on this, thanks.

Seat belt on passenger side is twisted and tongue incorrect, seems like belt was installed incorrectly. As long as twist remains before inner bolt it returns properly. Today twist went through inner bolt now had to manual return belt into position. Has anyone correct this problem, it not just undoing bolt next to floor and untwisiting it.

Hi ALL,
Had a timing belt problem with my 1999 Mitsubishi Galant GDI (4G93). After having the engine done, the car is smoky and compression is not good. Would an engine replacement do? Where can I get a used one? My dealer does not have any.

Yesterday i was accelerating and my engine hesitated a bit at first then accelerated fine and then the service engine soon light came on. I could feel the power loss. Ive been scouring the forms here and it sounds like it might be a problem with the wires and plugs, and that it could have been a cylinder misfire. I still am going to go get the PCM checked, but i would like to know before i go, if there is something else it could be, and where i could go to get it checked for a good price (autozone, pepboys?).

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and hope to be a member for some time

I am planning to swtich from my Mondeo ST24 to a Galant V6. I have found 2001 Model for under £3K that has done 72K miles on the clock. Its looks amazing in dark bluw mettalic with wooden trim etc, but after reading a lot of reviews I am bit worried about the Automatic Transmission. The vehicle belongs to a private seller and calims to have full Mitsubushi Service History.
I would appreciate if anyone here could please help me with the following queries
1. Should I be worried about the Auto Tran on this model?
2. The spec says the vehicle is AC+LPS. LPS??
3. What sort of mileage can I expect from this engine?
4. What sort of MPG doesn this engine give?
Thanks in advnace for the help.
Cheers

I have been having a continual and annoying problem with my 1999/2000 2.0ltr Gls Galant. After a rather unfortunate incident with the timing belt, and the subsequent replacement of a number of valves I got my car back. I have since noticed an unusual “judder” when the engine revs are held between 1000 and 2000 rpm. I have noticed it slightly when accelerating through but one the engine is running above 2000 rpm and I am cruising at 60mph the judder is no longer present. This is really starting to annoy me, I have tried using the injector cleaners you can add to your fuel and using higher octane fuel but neither of these solves the problem. Any advice would be gratefully received to try and fix this problem.

Men, help me!! I have my alternator completely disconnected. For the life of me, I can't find a hole big enough to remove the dog-gone thing. That is without doing some more major dis-assembly. I'm hoping I don't have to take a bunch of stuff apart to finish the job.
It probably didn't help that I was/am frustrated with the wife, and I'm broke, and my left index finger is bound with a plate and screws, and it hurts all day, and I can't bend it at the first joint, and it's colder polar bear's tail outside, and I don't have a garage, and I bought cheap tools, and I didn't want to be out there anyway. I know that's way too much info., but thanks for letting me vent. Also that might explain why, incase I missed something simple.
Thank anybody who can help.

before I go postal in this house.

Greetings.
I am going to come clean as a some time lurker here. I'm an active poster on Club-VR4, but there's not much GDI-specific knowledge there, so I've come to you...
I have a 2001 (X-reg) Galant GDI Elegance (UK Spec). For some time I have had some issues with the engine, and have tried a few things...
The main issue is a hesitation and "stumbling", jerking on light throttle acceleration, particularly up hills. Also, when going along on constant throttle setting sometimes the car suddenly reacts as if the throttle has been pressed a little more.
So, what have I done so far? First off, I've been trying to tackle the coke. When I bought the car the oil was black. REALLY black... I changed it as soon as I got it home, and have been running very short interval changes (1500 miles for first two, then 3000 since) to flush some of the junk out - on the third change the oil came out reasonably clean, unlike the first two. I'm currently using halford's 10W40 "fully synthetic" (I know it's not really) for the short change duties, and will be going to Amsoil 5W30 once that's completed.
In addition to that, I've run a can of 10k Boost through the car, multiple tanks of injector cleaner additives (redex, STP, Comma D-Tox, etc).
I have changed the spark plugs, although the previous set were ok when I took them out (I've kept them as spares).
With all that done it was still doing it, and came to a head one day, with a serious jerk when travelling along at constant speed, and then out of the next roundabout no power, and the engine check light came on. I nursed the car home, plugged it in to the computer and got P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire code. From looking on here, I found an issue with 2.4GDI Chariots of the spark escaping the coil pack where the insulation breaks down, and so I went to work with some insulation tape. Wrapping the area of the coil where it sits on and passes through the inlet manifold in tape seemed to fix things - cleared the code and the car has run smoother.
The problem is still there though, it's just less bad. I taped up the rest of the coils, but that made no difference.
I have subsequently also cleaned out the throttle body, which was somewhat cokey, and the butterfly seemed not to be able to properly close. Now it can and can move more smoothly, but again, it doesn't seem to have made any difference to the issue.
So, I am thinking that the coil pack wants replacing. Mitsubishi UK seem to hold an unusually large number in stock, which suggests they are problematic. At £117+VAT each, I am not inclined to replace 4 (at around £550). The part number the dealer gave me was MD365101
I have been looking for alternatives and come up largely blank, except for this:
http://www.ignitioncoil.co.uk/Products.asp...GDI)&e2=4G64GDIThis suggests itself for the spacewagon (chariot) 2.4GDI, but not the galant. The cross reference part numbers do not include the above part number that the dealer gave me. However, both are 4G64GDI engines, both using the same spark plug (IZFR5B), etc... how much difference is there? Is there any chance that this part might work in the galant? It would work out at around £150 saving on 4...
Any insights welcome!

Lately, the anti lock light on the panel keeps lighting up while I'm driving, it never happened before. After I used the key pad or just using the lock key on the driver's side to lock the car the blinker lights front and back kept flashing and it was going on and off. I discover in a few instances and flashing light didn't come on till after a few minutes after I lock the car and the next morning it was still flashing.
Does anybody here have an idea what was going on?
I'm suspecting it is something to do with the anti-lock wiring system fluke.
Thanks!

I bought a 2.4 GDI Galant (year 2000, manual) about 4 months ago with 120 000 km. I bought it in Germany and wanted to register in another country and the problems started to unfold only during registration procedure as I had to take it to inspection where it turned out the emission rate (all components) is too high.
I took it to a Mitsu dealership. They said the katalysator and O2 sensors are fine. There is also some problem with rough idling, so I think the two problems are connected. I have been reading through loads of posts on different forums and noticed that many people had similar problems with idling. I have let the Throttle body and AIC cleaned, checked valves. In the dealership they said electronics are fine too. So now I ran out of ideas. The local dealership is not much help either. They said it is possible that the whole AIC motor has to be replaced but it costs something like $ 2000. Does anyone have any idea what can be the problem? Does the AIC really need to be replaced?
Any suggestion is much appreciated, because this problem is really keeping me awake at night!

Hey, guys!
I'm looking at a 2001 mitsu galant es. here's some info:
http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/car/491975381.htmlthe car seems to drive rather smooth, i liked it, but the radio requires some code(how much does it cost to get?) to work and there is a little knocking sound while driving sometimes, don't know what that might be. we'll take it to midas or firestone tomorrow to check it out.
anything specific to watch out for? any tips, help, etc. will be really appreciated.
Thank you,

I've been noticing that my coolant level has been decreasing over the past 12 months. I keep adding coolant but unable to notice the leak, the leak seems to be a very slow one. I went to the dealer to replace the Oil sensor last week and mentioned that my coolant slowly leaks and he mentioned that it's a know issue with the clamps on the hoses. Has anyone had similar experience?

Hello Mitsubishi Forum Members,
My remote door lock clicker stopped working along with the radio, interior lights, sunvisor mirror lights, driver master door lock button and the trip odometers reset to zero when the key is out. When the car is running the only one of the above that will work is the drivers master door lock, all the rest remain dead. This all happened at one time and no fuses appear to be blown. One suggestion I have received is that the ignition switch is bad. Any other suggestions?

Whats Up Everybody
I live in Toronto and drive a 2003 Mitsu Galant ES with 85,000km. Everytime I turn the tempurature knob from hot to cold a noise comes from behind the dash and remains for a minute, then goes away. My A/C & heat work fine I get cold & hot air its just the noise. I recently took it to a Mitsubushi Dealer and the technician heard the noise and told me my heater blower motor was blown. And also said if I don't fix it I can loose my heat and A/C. What!

after 85,000km. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone else diagnose my problem with any suggestions?
