On my 2005 GTS, my tech is having trouble locating the problem (doesn't charge me if he can't fix it). He says it is something electrical, as the coolant is charged and the compressor is fine. He's checked relays but still can't figure it. As soon as he pressed in relays, it worked.
Well again it stopped working recently (well it blows out some mildly cool air). However the three times this has happened, it was after I had used the heater. Does such a behavior ring any bells to why it will work, UNTIL I use the heater? Thanx.

What is the correct name of that black "plate" under the nose/bumper, the one that gets snagged if you go to far on a curb and back up? I need one. Thanx.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to owning a Mitsubishi. I've had my '04 Galant GTS for 14 months now and I love every minute of driving it. I had bought an '03 Silver GTZ 2 months prior to getting my current car, but someone ran into it while it was parked on the street and totaled it. Although I loved driving the '03 it was a little underpowered and small for me so I was glad to upgrade to the '04 GTS. I've replaced the timing belt, water pump and had the transmission serviced too so it feels like its regained some horses, definitely can tell that the engine responds better with that maintenance done.
Anyway I have run into an issue with my 6-Disc Changer. Yesterday it started freaking out and not reading CDs. It had done things like not reading a disc before, usually on a burned one, but hitting load/eject would generally make it work after 2 or 3 tries. But this was the first time it wouldn't read a non-burned CD, so I continued to press the button and it finally read a non-burned CD but continued to click while playing. So I turned it off and came back out to it when I got off work and it wouldn't read any discs. So I continued to hit the load/eject button trying to get it to work but it stopped reading discs after I did that maybe 20x and completely stopped ejecting or letting me switch discs at all. So I'm guessing that means its completely dead now.
But here's my questions, I looked up how to take out the old disc changer and it seems like biggest thing is prying the faceplate off and the rest is screws and plugs. But what I'm wondering is if I get a new or used replacement for it would I be limited to the silver faceplate one that came stock in the 04-05 models of the GTS or could I put in the 06 version which has a black faceplate and it will support MP3 CDs? I would also like to install an AUX in for mp3 players but since I can't actually switch the radio into AUX from the modes I was unsure of how to do that. I've heard about the iPod adapter for the radio but I would like to have just an AUX 3.5mm in so I can plug anything into it, does Mitsubishi makes an AUX input addon for it or am I limited to the one for iPod?
I'd appreciate any input the forum can give me, thanks.

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at
TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
So far a few dozen Galant owners have signed up. A good start, but more are needed to include the Galant in this survey.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.
For the details, and to sign up to help out:

ive been researching and read that the stock is .044 and to use NGK spark plugs on a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant. So i went out and bought the NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs that come "pre-gapped at .032" Now here is the weird part, i am getting mixed answers on weather or not to gap them to .044 up from .032. I tried to gap (2 of the 4 plugs) to .044 and ended up damaging the center electrode on the spark plug. I bought another two but i want to know what am i supposed to do from here gap them or not because it almost seems impossible to gap these "NGL Laser Iridium" plugs without damaging the center electrode using the normal gapping tool.
So basically in a nutshell here are my concerns:
1) Do i gap them to .044 or leave them at .032?
2) If i do have to gap them what do i use as the "average circle gapping tool" does not work?
3) What will happen if i leave it at the 0.32 gap instead of using .044?

Hi. My 2010 Galant has a steering wheel rattle that occurs when the car shimmers slightly (ac compressor on) or due to rough roads. It does this only in the spring and fall. When it's really hot or cold it doesn't do this as much. I have done some investigating and found that the noise seems to go away when I push down on the steering wheel slightly or move the tilt wheel lever below the steering wheel to a specific unlocked position. It appears that the mechanism which holds the tilt steering column in a given position is causing this noise. Has anyone experienced this? If so, were you able to fix it yourself or did the dealer fix it? Was it repairable at all? Thanks in advance for all responses.

I've been dealing with this for about 2 years now. First I replaced the condenser because I found a couple forums where some people stated that a lot of them from this year are notorious for leaking near the top left (facing the grille) welded area of the condenser, plus I added some of that fluorescent a/c oil to the system to detect any future leaks. The shop said it held a vacuum for over 30min, but all of my coolant leaked out again within a month and I couldn't find any leaks using a black-light. I got a giant can of R134 and refilled it again, and this time on a whim poured a tiny bit of the dyed oil into the low-pressure valve stem and immediately saw a bubble come up every 20 seconds or so for a long time.
So now after only a week, the a/c light starts flashing again and it is time to replace the schrader valve - Only problem is I can't find an exact fit part anywhere! Anybody here know if any of the generic AutoZone Santech valve core/cap kits would work? There are about 10 different ones and it says none of them will fit.
Thanks!
(p.s. - I even paid for an AllDataDIY subscription and can't find the part in there, either! FML - foreveralone.jpg)

I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Galant. The accessory outlet does not work. I've checked all the fuses in the side(door) panel and also the engine compartment and they are all OK. I've checked the relay by swapping the accessory outlet relay with fuel pump relay (same part number on relay), but no go. I've verified the contacts under the accessory outlet are connected. Anything else to check?
EDIT: I had searched the forums, but couldn't find anything. I've tried google search, but can't find anything on it.

My 09 Galant has 76,000 miles on it and I was planning on replacing the timing belt next month. It has been garage kept since I bought it, but we are currently doing some work on the garage, so I was forced to park it outside last night during a torrential downpour.
This morning, I went to start it and it just cranked and cranked and every now and then it sounded like it was going to start but didn't. After this, BOTH the battery light AND the oil light came on, as well as the service engine soon light. I checked the oil and it was indeed right at the LO dot (6000 miles since last change) so I added enough to bring it up to just under the HI dot - I was not aware it has been using this much oil, and there is no trace of it on the garage floor.
Next, I tried to jump start it with my wife's car and it did the same exact thing...lights, sound, everything. The radio, dome lights, and blower are all working fine, too, so I doubt that it is the battery. I had to take her car to work and haven't had a chance to look at the Galant, so does anyone have any ideas on where I could start?
(Side note: A few years ago, I replaced the timing belt on my old car after it slipped a few teeth and the way the Galant is cranking now is very similar to how that one did before we found the problem)
(Side side note: Over the last two months, the A/C light has been intermittently blinking and the system was blowing warm air. I refilled the freon myself and it worked fine for 2-3 weeks until it started doing the same thing. Had my mechanic put some Red Angel in it and the same thing is happening again - Any ideas on this?)
Sorry for the novel, heh

Thanks in advance, guys!!

Hi guys, new here. Just today, I bought a 2007 model mitsubishi 380 (the one built in Australia, as I am in Australia) and just wanted to know what sort of performance mods are possible for this car. As I have noticed, the 380 seems pretty much identical to the galant (later models), but I have yet seen any proper performance mods for the galant either (bigger camshafts etc.). I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good ways for me to get some more power out of my 380. I will be crafting an airbox and using a K&N pod filter (unless just using the K&N panel filter is better???) and getting a catback exhaust custom made.
Thanks alot for any help guys, I really appreciate it.

My son has a 2004 Galant, the ABS kicks in when braking on dry roads. I had taken it to a Mitsu Dealer first time they said it was the wheel sensor and 3 had been replaced. Left the dealer and had the same problem. The first time the it was giving ABS wheel sensor codes. No it is not giving wheel sensor codes now, but still I when I drive it and start braking I feel the ABS pump kick in and feel the pulsing in the brake pedal and hear the ABS kicking in. Today me and a friend put in a another ABS pump and bleed the system. Still the ABS is kicking in and this does not happen all the time when applying the brakes, some time it does ,some time it does not kick in.
The only thing that I think may be bad could it be the master cylinder?
One more thing I did try and disconnect the wire harness that connect to the ABS pump and it brakes normal, but the Speedo does not work. And you ABS could not work like this i know.
Am really at a lost with this one.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi. I have the 2010 Galant SE. Since cold weather has arrived I have noticed that the plastic trimming inside the cabin tends to creak as the temperature changes as well as when driving on bumpy roads. There is some creaking noise during the summer but it is definitely more frequent during the winter. It is especially noticable on the right side above the glove box. I have read that the interior plastics are made cheaply in this car. Is this normal for this car or should the dealer be able to do anything about it? Thanks in advance for any response.

Hey, I have an '04 GTS with the 6-disc Infinity radio that's all silver, but everything on the inside is black, so it does stand out. I just came across a picture of the interior of an '06 GTS, that the infinity radio and knobs are black, and it looks awesome. I wanna know if there's a way to simply get the radio cover and knobs, without having to buy an '06 radio. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear em! thanks

Hi. I took my 2010 Galant in for service today. I brought my own 5 qt bottle of oil which I purchased at Wal-Mart. When I checked the dip stick at home I found that the dealer poured in 5 qts of oil into the engine. I asked the dealer about this and he said that he always pours 5 qts of oil in these engines. Every other place that changed the oil, always put in 4.5 qts. Is the dealer right? Should I be worried? Should I ask the dealer to drain the extra oil from the engine? I will not be able to get to the dealer until the weekend. Can I drive with 0.5 qts of oil overfill without any problems?

Hey, I recently got an '04 Galant GTS a little over a month ago. I was wondering, when I pop the trunk either through the lever in the car or the button on the keys, the trunk will pop open about an inch, just enough to unlock it pretty much. Now this lid is pretty heavy when you have stuff in your hands, is there a way to get it to swing open more? thanks to anyone that can help.

http://discount-starter-alternator.amazonw..._source=frooglei didnt know they made foldinf mirrors for the galant, but it's an aftermarket part and I'm wondering if it would fit.
Also is there any tricks to changing the side view mirrors on the 04 Galant?

I already have two main keys and would like a third. Where can I get a blank that is guaranteed to work? Don't want to waste money on the wrong item. Have a locksmith who does all the Mitsubishi key cutting for the local dealer.
Also, where can I get valet blanks that work? I got a couple from eBay, and they don't work! They were cut by the locksmith mentioned above, who just one minute previous had cut a normal dealer supplied OEM key blank for me. The eBay ones would only turn to the left, not to the right.
Thanks!

My SRS light just came on, I checked the manual and it says check the lights on the dash for passenger and passenger seat unoccupied, which I checked and they both light, I also have no dtc codes, Anyone have an idea what this could come from and is it a easy fix? I will check the seat belts and connections.
Thanks David2498

My 9G started to overheat yesterday and I realized I had a small hole somewhere on the radiator... Did the quick fix repair option of Bars Stop Leak Liquid Copper, spent too much on dressing up the G that I used up my funds for a radiator. I'm a little nervous about the heater core getting clogged by copper build up. Anyone think this was a bad idea? Looking for an ease of mind about the move I made.

I am thinking about changing wheels on my 08 Galant and was just curious if there is a fuse or some way to disable the TPM light on the dash? I really don't want to have to pay for new sensors for each new wheel if I can get around it, that is unless they just absolutely have to be used.
Also when I start my car it seems that it cranks for a long time before firing. Now I am only talking like maybe turning over 2-4 times before it actually fires but just seems longer than any other car I've had in the past. I just changed plugs and air filter and still the same. Is this normal or something I may need to get checked out? Other than that it seems to run very good. Thanks for your help on both of these topics!

Hey guys, today I was at a stop sign, when I went to accelerate my car just shut down on me, it didn't make any noise or give me an signs of shutting down. It just shut down, I put the car in neutral and started it up again. I waited to see if a check engine light or any other light would come on but it didn't. Anyone have any idea why this happened? This shouldn't happening to a car this NEW.
Its a 2010 Galant SE, has only 18,000 miles on it.

I have a 2006 Galant SE with the trip computer above the radio instead of the basic LCD. I was told by the parts department of a Mitsubishi dealer that an aftermarket radio install was not possible because the wiring for the computer runs through the stock deck. However, I read on another thread that the only loss in functionality is the readout of "radio error", which apparently can be disabled in the settings. Which answer is true? What funcionality (if any) is lost? Has anyone done this themselves? How about adding steering wheel controls; does the adapter interfere with the computer also?
I am looking to get a radio off of Crutchfield.com, so assume I will be using the wiring harness they provide... Also, what is your opinion of HD radio? Worth it?
If it helps, here are some photos attached:

Hey guys this is my first time purchasing a Mitsubishi. I got a Black 2010 Galant SE for 0 percent financing and got their extended warranty for a total of 10 years bumper to bumper coverage. So far I love the car. The ONLY downside that I see is the quality of the materials in the interior of the car. Seems too fragile and cheap, but I guess I will have to wait and see how it holds up. Besides that, the car rocks. The main reason I made this thread was to ask if you guys could give me some feedback on this car. Is there any issues I should be aware of? Any reliability problems, etc.. Thank you all in advanced and heres a pic of the car!!!

I'm having a remote starter put in my 2006 galant, which requires a bypass to run the remote starter (thus needing one of my two chipped keys).
So...
I made a cheap non-chipped key, as I assume once a bypass is installed with the key permanently in the bypass, any key that fits will start the car. I am hoping this is the way it works so I don't have to fork out $100+ dollars for a chipped key. Is this true, or is the bypass only for the remote starter, and a chipped key is still needed to start the car independently? I am just planning for a worst-case scenario where the remote starter fails, and I'm wondering if I can still manually start it with a non-chipped key.

It is time for me to change the timing belt on my 2.4L Galant, i got around 80,000 miles, i got a quot from the dealership for $70 and $35 for 2 different belts (JUST THE BELTS, no pulleys). I thought that price was a little high and looked online. So far i have found...... GENUINE MITSUBISHI, GATES, AC DELCO, DAYCO, & CONTITECH.
If i have to i will buy the "GENUINE MITSUBISHI" but i don't wanna spend that much UNLESS I HAVE TO, but at the same time i want a just as good or better quality belt (i don't want a cheap belt as i do not want my engine to blow on my long trips) Do you guys have any recommendations???

My 2007 Galant ES began to give some very crispy noise recently. I sort of feel sad, because it is only around 13500 miles. To me, it is like some vibration noise coming from some very thin metal sheet. It mainly happens when I step on the accelerator, or start the engine. After driving for a while, the noise seems to go away. As I don’t have a Mitsubishi dealer in town, I went to a small repair-shop to get some quick suggestions. A tech heard it for a second and told me it is due to some heat shield (rust, loose bolts, etc). So I want to get a second opinion, and went to another repair-shop. It was very funny (and unlucky for me) that on the way to the 2nd repair-shop, the noise is there, but after I got a nice tech into my car and drive around, it just would not give any noise! But this is not it. I then went to try the 3rd repair-shop. SAME thing happened to me (noise on the way, but no noise when the tech is in my car). I was really pissed, as of now, sure enough, the car is giving noise again. I hope some of you guys can give me some comments/suggestions. I simply want to get myself more prepared before heading to the dealer, which is about 60 miles away. Will this problem usually be covered by warranty? I am the original owner.
Thanks!

Guys,
I got 2004 galant DE 4 cylinder. This weekend hopefully weather gonna be good i can replace fluid, filter on my transmission.
I made some research on how to change transmission and parts needed. If you have some comments or additional information i would be glad to hear about it.
Parts i buy:
1) ATF SPIII from dealer, i bought 10 bottles (10quarts)
2) Transmission Filter
3) Drain plug gasket
I'm also planning to buy a silicone adhesive gasket since the dealer told me that this is the type of gasket that mitsubishi used on my car model but its quite expensive from them.
Also, i think i need to buy the O-RING. Did i forget any parts to buy?
If you have done changing the fluid and filter of your transmission, please kindly give me advise.
Also, Planning to do this on street of new york queens.... is it possible or police will caught me?
Thank you and Best Regards,

Sometimes when I start the cold engine I'm getting a strange rattle for about 1-3 seconds. The rattle starts when turning the starter. Something similar to something plastic banging on a metal part. It happens every 5-10 cold starts (after over 8 hours of no usage) and never happens on a second start or when the engine is warm.
Any clues where to look for solutions?

What up peeps? It's been awhile since I've posted, but I'm back now. I sold my old 01' black galant, and bought a 07' Silver Galant Ralliart. It's "sweet" as hell. But I'm tryin' to make it look nice. I will throw so wheelz on it next year, but for now I wanna do the little sh!t, tint;de-badge;grills;lighting. Does anyone know where I can buy the front grilles for my car? Or any other site that sell's aftermarket parts for my 07' galant? I can't find too many new parts for such a new car. So if anyone can hook me up with some links,..... good lookin' ....U digg!!

Hello all! new to the forum. I found this site while trying to answer a question I have with our 04 Galant.
There seems to be some sort of sucking sound or some type of air-like sound coming from behind the break peddle. the weird part is that it goes away when even the slightest pressure is put on the break peddle. It seems to come from whatever is connected to the break peddle.
Anyone have a clue what it could be?
The breaks are working fine for now but I'm thinking I might have to get it check out soon if I cant figure out what it is.
Thanks!

About a year ago the A/C/ blower began to either shut off or not turn on at all. The compressor itself continues to run; only the blower/fan is affected. This always happens when the weather was hot (I live in Texas) Sometimes it will come back on within a few minutes and other times it may be a few days. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? I'm not very experienced at all so I would greatly appreciate any answers to be as specific as possible.
Thanks!

I have a 2007 V6 Galant. I have noticed that when I turn left when the AC is on, there is a blowing noise under the passenger side floor board. This does not happen when going straight or turning right. When I turn the AC off, it does not happen. This has been going on for about a month now. No other problems with the car or its' function, just this. Any thoughts? Thanks!
