I'm fairly sure the clutch slave cylinder has gone on my 96 carisma.
The clutch slips when I boot it in 1st and 2nd but is fine in all other gears and when driving normally. The clutch also takes a while to come up if i push down and release it in neutral. Ive checked the fluid, its dirty so needs replacing anyway. This problem started happening suddenly after my girlfriend (who I'm teaching to drive... let this be a lesson!) was shall we say over keen to release the clutch several times on one hill start! All this and talking to mechanics points to the slave cylinder. Is this quick and easy to replace as I can get hold of the cylinder fairly cheaply? Is the bleed screw on the slave cylinder or somewhere else?! Also, what dot rating fluid does the clutch use?

hi am a newbie here. i've just got myself a 1999 carisma gl a couple of months ago and yesterday i got the cambelt and oil changed. now i have this tapping noise from the engine, the bloke at the garage said give it a couple of days and see how it goes. what do you guys think it could be. could it be a tappet?

any help would be good.

I have a 96 Carisma, and need (immediately) to replace a headlight bulb. I see the thing locking the bulb in place, but cannot seem to get it removed with any reasonable amount of violence. Anyone know what direction to pull/push/press/twist?

hi, just bought a 2003 carisma elegance 1.9 DI-D, its my first mitsu so not only am i new to the mitsu im new to the forum also, i should be picking the car up on tuesday morning, there is just over 48K on the clock,

im sure this question has been asked many times,
whats the life span of the belt and when should it be first changed???

when i was buying the car the sales man in the garage said if it needs to be changed they will look after it but could'nt tell me when it needed to be changed, he just said the mechanics will look after it,

its a bank holliday in ireland today so i cant ring any mitsu garage to find out and i want to know before i go to collect the car on tuesday coz if its due to be changed i want to make sure that they do it...

Last week I went to get into my beautiful baby - (Yes my car), and the door won't open, but the other 3 will!

I know it's not the lock, and I'm thinking something is down inside it jamming the mechanisim. I rung the local mitsi agent and they don't seem to care, and all the mechanics I've rung laugh and say it's the lock. But it's not. The only trouble is I can't get the door panel off to get inside the door.
Does anyone have any ideas or has had this happen? I've had my car a year and a half and am absolutely distraught, and don't know what to do.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I've exhasted all of mine.

Hi Guys SWIMBO has fallen in love with a Carisma 1.8 auto. Its only done 52000, i've driven it and the suspension feels quite harsh but more worrying is the fuel pump its very noisy! I've phoned my local mitsi dealer and he quotes about 240 +vat as the gauge is built in too! Any advice would be welcome(please be gentle its my first post) Mike.

Reconed the gearbox,£300 allin,and the car now moves.

When you select any gear, release the cluch and it dont move,it sounds like its trying to go into gear though.
would this have something to do with the driveshaft? Please help?

Having problem with vibration between 40 - 60mph. Have eliminated possible wheel/tyre balance problem.

The vibration is quite strong but disappears when you stop accelerating or slip the clutch, which suggests it lies in the drive train. Mits garage reckoned it was problem with LH drive shaft, but replacing it did made no diference. Removal & visual inspection of RH drive shaft revealed nothing abnormal.

Has anyone come across this or has any ideas????

Hopefully someone out there can help me. I have a 2002 1.3l GLX Carisma. Recently it developed a tapping sound on startup which faded as the engine got warmer. Within the last few days, its now become more or less constant. I figure it's a loose tappet. Just wondering would anyone be able to give me the correct torque settings for these? I have been unable to get my hands on a workshop manual as it seems the 1.3 is a very small production run and it isn't widely available. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a 1998 Carisma 1.6i, and the rear suspension bottoms out when I go over any bumps etc... Is the suspension Gas Filled or something? Can you buy Gas Refills? If so anyone know where I can buy them from? Is it a difficult job?

Hi everyone ,I have just been given my Dad's old car ,a 1998 Carisma which is fine in all respects apart from having loud lonking noise from the off side front suspension area when going over bumps.It does not happen when accelerating only when coasting or braking.The car has had this noise for a couple of years now and has new front wishbones and shocks.replacing these made no difference ,and undoing the anti roll bar made no improvement.I am beginning to think it must be the top mounts on the shocks ,but these appeared fine when I did the new struts.

Anyone have any ideas - it's driving me mad!

hi, i have an old carisma, was going to change the plugs, is it just me or are they really tiny and hidden behind all sorts of cabling etc at the back of the cylinder head?

Hi there, can any one tell me where the pollen filter goes on a 1.8 GDi 2001? it doesn't appear to be behind the glove box but the car has air con so I am assuming that it must have a pollen filter too? Any suggestions.

i am trying to turn my car into a half show car half daily driver so obviously no fiberglass body kits lol. i am trying to figure out how hard it is to make a stock hood a split hood down the middle? i figure it's not as easy as taking a saw saw and cutting striaght down center of hood and then putting some weather stripping inbetween with hinges? but if anyone has done it and knows difficulties or if it is easy please let me know.

My radio has being trying to make me insane since I got the car in December last year. It is a 51 plate 1.8 GDI with the standard radio (phillips R88?).

Everytime I change to another pre-set FM radio station it takes approx. 30 seconds before the other channel comes on? The display shows "Wait"?

I don't have an owners manual, can anyone tell me if this is 'normal' or if there is a way I can prevent/fix this?

Hi guys, in my google search for body kits for the carisma i came across this site.

Basically i plan to buy a carisma in the next couple of months, and i'm totally new to cars (i'm 19).

Didn't know anything about computers a year ago but now i know a fair bit as i make them for relatives and friends etc. I'm sure i'll be like that when i get a car.

Body kits for this car are v.limited, i've seen one on that russian site and another on a uk site.

Does anyone know where i would be able to order any others?

I have a 1998 Carisma 1.6GLX.

I keep reading that when i first start the car or even put the switch to the ON position a few lights should lit.

When i start the car these lights come on:
1) Parking Brake (if the Hand Brake is on)
2) Oil indicator
3) Battery indicator
4) Engine check indicator

Should these lights come on as well as the ones i mentioned?
1) ABS light
2) SRS light

Because the dont come one when i start the car.

Is it faulty or is it just the bulb?!?!?! can anyone help me?!?!?!

Hi there, I've owned my Carisma now for 4 years gdi glx 1.8 1998 and it has been the best car I've owned. I've had my first problem this morning in that the yellow engine light stays on for ages when trying to turn the engine over and the engine will not start till it goes out! Unfortunateley the light is flickering thus making it hard to start the car - any ideas? Was thinking it may be some kind of sensor?

I thought i might get some new speakers for my car. I think its the original speakers but im not sure. Does anyone know how many thumbs they are, the ones in the front and back? Thought it would be 4" in the back but in the front they are really small.
Anyone got an idea what i'm talking about?

Hi there, Looking for some advice cos I think if a car has 4 wheels and goes in the right direction it works.

Took my car for a service 4 days ago but just a local garage. Next day my speedometer stopped moving. Then it started, then it stopped. Has been working since yesterday. Today however the engine indicator lamp has come on.....is it serious? Do you think it could be due to my service? What do I do? Or is my Carisma simply gaining a life of her own and been a pain in the a**.

Which fuse covers my reversing lights, I cannot find it as the handbook does not match the car which is trhe 1.8 GDI. I have looked at both boxes but cannot find a faulty one. Both reversing lights are out, any ideas?

Hi,my 98 carisma has really bad rust around the fuel pipe lid.Is this a common problem?how can i fix it without spending mega bucks or is it okay to leave it?thank you[attachmentid=2581]

Car running perfectly, then in traffic could not get it to change gears, till i pull in and stopped engine for a while, restarted and got it into gear with difficulty,,is it a seroius problem or some type of fluid. Where under the bonnet is the gear fluid resevoir.

I have a Mitsubishi Carisma (GDI) Y reg (2001) - it is a good runner, but over the past 6 months I have had an intermittent problem with the Engine Management light. It will come on, stay on for a day - then clear again. This happens about once a week. The local garage showed up a problem with DS coil 4 (ignition coil) - they swapped this out but problem still happening.

Anyone else had a similar problem.

Any info would be good.
