Hey what up what up, I have a Montero Sport 2000 Limited... I really want to get a new sound system installed but I dunno if I should keep the speakers that are already in it or not. Is Infinity a good brand? Is their single cd player decent? Someone help me out. Thanks.

Allo!
I'm trying to get to the passenger compartment fuse box, which from the owner's manual, appears to be just in front of my left knee when seated in the driver's seat, BEHIND the paneling that's underneath the steering wheel.
From what I can tell, there is no easy way to access the fuse box, without first removing this paneling. Is this true? Is there something super-simple that I'm missing? Replacing fuses is a common thing to have to do, and I wouldn't think would require all the effort of removing paneling and whatnot.
Thanks in advance!
Justin

I have recently bought a 1992 Shogun 3000 V6 and have found 2 rubber buttons one above the other next to the suspension adjusting switch near the handbrake. I have no idea what they do and was hoping somebody out there does, the lower of the 2 buttons appears to have an asterix style symbol on it. Please help.

I have come by some sites that have an Exceed listed to what has more power options than normal. Was this model the prestige in the fleet?
I am looking into buying a 2.5 TD.

Hi there every one. I am from new zealand, I am a mechanic and auto electrician. I have joined this site and forum in order to try and acquire some very much neede info reguarding that new heap of junk gdI motor that mmc put on the market. on paper it is brilliant cocept but needs major work as I am seeing so many people in difficulty with them.
I have currently three with smoking problems. and two others with rough running.
they are all 1999-2002 models some 4 cylinder and others 6 cyliders please help. mmc very tight lipped would not give any info at all. eventually had to send our own ddi iesel to mmc to get help for missing and have alittle inside info on that so if required can possibly help. scanners are good but believe most faults lie with mechanical section.
thanks

Good day. I've worked in the Russian Far East for three years. My wife and I finally decided to purchase a car to enjoy our Sundays. We found and excellent deal (we thought) on a 1993 Mitsubishi Pajero, 4WD / Autotrans / 2800 Intercooled 4cyl T/D / Mk II model. I drove the car 1 week before the water boiled out of the radiator. Since I don't have the tools here to fix the problem, we took the car to a recommended mechanic. The mechanic pulled the head and found the problem; cracks in the head. He said a used head (condition unknown) would cost 40,000 Rubles (US $1450.00) I MEAN THIS IS FOR A USED HEAD! Anyway, a good used or rebuilt head in Sakhalin is nonexistent. Does ANYONE in the immediate world know where I can purchase a new or quality rebuilt head? If you do, please include an estimate of the cost. I'll airfreight it to Russia to get our vehicle back up and running (this morning it was -24C). Thank you in advance for your guidance.

The old engine has finally worn out and would like to replace with something with a little more power. Does anybody know what fits into a 1985 pajero petrol 2.6 slot with more grunt. The car is great but the engine lacks grunt, over taking is like watching paint dry (it takes ages)!

The 5 speed trans will shift down to 3rd when accelerating if cold but when it warms up it doesn't want to drop down unless you put into manual mode. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the auto trans (ie oil) or the ECU. I have checked all the basics and everthing is OK. I have only turned to 65k on the clock and the truck has had an easy life in Japan so I don'y think that it is a mechanical problem. Has anyone had a similiar experience with this model or any thoughts on a possible ECU going bad? Engine start-up & running is fine.

The switch in question is situated next to the switch for the fan on the dashboard, just above the radio. It seems to be a push switch. Does anyone know what it does???

Hi, I have a Montero Sport 2.5 GLS TD (2000 - LH drive) which I purchased when I was working/living in Spain. I need to replace both front and rear box's and the tail pipe. I have found one company who can get these for me, but at a cost of £830.
Has anyone out there (in the UK) found a supplier for exhausts for this or similar model ?
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks. Lena Hearn

Hi All
This is my first post

I just purchased a 1997 ® Shogun 2.8 GLS TD and have an issue with it not starting , it takes from 2 to 8 times to start.
I have had a brand new starter motor fitted and the problem is still there.
As you start the car the starter motor turns but does not seem to be engaging the engine! After a random number of starts it 'grips' and the car starts perfectly.
I have been advised that it is possibly the 'teeth' on the flywheel that are worn / damaged. If this is the case thgen it requires the gear box removing and the clutch to get to the fly wheel.
Anyone had the same problem or have any information that may help me?
Also i could do with a rough price for a flywheel if anyone knows.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
EDIT Its a GLS - Typo

Hiya all,
Well the short story is my shogun was going through 5 litres of radiator water every 50 miles and the exhuast fumes looked mighty white. So I decided that the head gaskets were gone.
So stripped the engine down and installed nice new gaskets and put her back together. During the cleanup I noticed that the valve covers contained a white/cream like milkshake substance (guessing oil/radiator water mix) which I cleaned off.
Needless to say I drained the engine oil (which although very dark in colour did not look milkshakey) and drained the radiator coolant which was also uncontaminated. Then filled both up with nice new liquids and re-installed the engine.
She started first time and warmed up lovely. Now I had forgotten to put the valve gaskets in so I got a light haze from the engine. So I decided to put them in, but when I took off the valve covers to my horror I found new milkshake on the inside of the valve covers.
So now I am trying to figure if this is just left over milkshake from before (doubtful) or a cracked head/block, or other.
Also I noticed that the main radiator hoses had hot water coming through very slowly, which to me suggests that the water pump has gone.
Oh all the pics can be viewed at
Shogun Photo LogAny ideas/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
Condor

Hello-
First post, as I just won an auction for a '95 Montero last nite, and hope to go pick it up and drive it ~950 miles home in the next few days.
The dealer had to disconnect the batteries during the detailing of the vehicle, and the radio anti-theft has kicked in. As I'd like to have a few tunes to pass the 20 hour dirve home, I'm anticipating pulling the radio on-site, so I can retrieve the radio code to take along with my VIN to a dealer to get the activation code.
I've already found the excellent advice in this forum on entering the code once I get it. What I was unable to find with a search is anybody who has detailed their experience in removing the factory radio from a '95 Montero SR.
So as I know what tools I need to take, and how long this process might take (as well as any gotcha's), has anybody pulled their radio that might be able to tell me what's involved?
Thanks.
-Steve

Hello Everyone,
Ok, I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport ES 2wd and it is having a very weird problem. My truck only has 76,000 miles and for some reason it starts up fine and drives fine....UNTIL it warms up, then all kinds of hell break loose..
When it is warm it wont idle unless i help it by using the gas pedal, at high rpm's it seems fine...at low rpms it wont even drive. at low rpm the second I put it into a drive gear (automatic) it dies. I was told by a shady mechanic that there is an "air sensor" that needs to be replaced?? I have a OBD2 codes reader and nothing comes up. The "service engine soon" light comes on when this happens, but when I park the truck, let it cool down and start it back up the light goes out....ONLY when the truck is warm it does all of this.
Does anyone have any idea as to whats wrong?, I dont even know where to start and I dont want to send it to the dealership and get hosed either....Please help....
Thanks,
Steve

Hi All,
Recently, I noticed that one of my 2wd/4wd operation indication lamp (on the dashboard) was off. Generally, when driving on 2wd, the two rear wheel green indication lamp is on. However, my pajero (NM - 2000) shows that one of the lamp is off. Has anyone ever had this kind of problem before ? Appreciate any help about this problem. Thanks.

I have a 1993 pajero recently imported. Recently i noticed that it was using quite a lot of water although the temperature gauge remained half way. I have replaced the old rad cap with a new one, but the problem does not seem to have been solved. also i have noticed that the color of the water coolant is bright orange could this be a sign of head gaskit ging or leaking?? the other problem i have is vibration noise comming from the back end at around 40 to 50mph any ideas the noise goes as i accellerate past this speed..

Hello once again, is there any electrical wizards out there on Pajeros, fault being a clicking coming from the n/s/r side panel on a l.w.b model. Usually after driving a distance once stopped a clicking appears in the said area. I think it could be connected to the Pre-heat system for the Glow plugs ? on a 2.8 l.w.b T/D.
