About the Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (MMCS) 1996 - 2003
This car navigation system was originally intended only for the Japanese market, with the on-screen language hard-coded to Japanese, GPS system calibrated to the northern hemisphere and only maps of Japan available on the system CDs. It is an early example of the kind of GPS and multimedia functionality now built into most mid- to top-end cars. The MMCS system began appearing in some Mitsubishi models from the mid 1990's before being replaced with newer, more functional technology under the same MMCS name for Mitsubishi vehicles built from around 2003. The earlier version of the MMCS system is now no longer supported with official documentation and system 'boot up' CDs no longer available. The system is closed-proprietory with no currently known way to encorporate other nations maps, recalibrate the GPS system or timezone, nor any way to change the language. In many countries there are still many imported Japanese vehicles with this earlier MMCS system on the roads which prompted ITEX to look at offering some support.
ITEX MMCS Documentation Description
ITEX have created an easy to use 26 page English A5-sized overview of major MMCS features (e.g. Tape, CD, Aircon and audio/video quality settings) which can be sent via email as a PDF file. Updated to V1.1 in July 2008 to include added hints about compass inaccuracy in southern hemisphere, TV reception advice for non-NTSC TV signal countries and instructions for connecting portable DVD players and other video capable devices such as PSPs, iPods and Nokia N95 - plus some wiring diagram information which may assist in tracking down faults or further modifications.
Note that the documentation does not cover the touch screen version of the system, however may offer some general hints and advice.
ITEX Also have various System Start CDs to get the system up and running if users have the blank screen or only the word "CD" appearing on screen.

HI all - Has anyone got some clues on why a Mulit Comm display could cease from showing any actual read outs, ie Will currently not show any car data, No options are working, Radio will not show-up when selected, but will function (one "Station and channel" only!).
I thought it might have been a blown fuse - but cant find any related to the unit under the bonnet!!?? Could it be more complicated??
Thanks in advance

Ok, I know that on here there is at least one person who had a lot of
experience with these cars so I am hoping someone will be able to help. My
wifes Spacewagon is a 2000(W) fitted with the awful GDI engine and has
covered 96K. Over the last six months it has been getting harder to keep
the engine running smoothly. It stalls at lights, won't idle unless the
revs are kept up and runs rich. I put the car into a garage near me for a
diagnostic but all this found was that the front O2 sensor (lambda) was
out of spec, and "spiking".
He did say the plugs were a bit ropy, and offered to change them at £25
each! When we got the car back I changed the oil, filters and this week
replaced the sensor. The car is gradually getting worse and now will only
idle once in a blue moon.
As the car is now 12 years old and we no longer need a 7 seater I am very
reluctant to spend serious money on it. I have ordered a new set of plugs
and will change them but I am not convinced they are the sole cause of the
rough running. I have in the past given the intake manifold a spray of
Ecotech Powerboost, which removes the "varnish" which these cars tend to
suffer from, but I doubt if this will help.
Any thoughts welcome!

I have a 2004 Grandis and I cannot find shocks for it anywhere else but in japan. I currently live in the Caribbean and it way too much to pay. Are there any part numbers that I can find in say the U.S that are compatible? Really not liking the constant knocking sound over any kind of bump and I know the shocks have never been changed.
Also finding the headlight ballasts have been a royal pain to find also.
ANY kind of help is appreciated.

Hi and Good Morning/Evening to all depending on where you are of course.
I am trying to source a pair of Front Brake Disec for my 1998 2.4 Chariot GDI i mistakenly ordered a set for a 1998 Spacewagon with the same engine code 4G64 and chassis N84W but the discs are to large in DIA ie 276mm, i only discovered this when the caliper bolts would not go through and the disc was rubbing the bottom of the caliper, apart from that they are identical with 5 stud holes ect, I cannot return them as the supplier is adamant i ticked his non returns box lol Anyway if anyone wants these they can have them for £20 (there scrap metal to me now)
Back to the subject matter i have been qouted a price of £300 for a replacement set surely not, i have tried Ebay and most factors but they all stock for the Spacewagon, i think the disc DIA would have to be in the 266mm region with of course the 5 stud stud holes,
Any suggestions please as i would love to keep my machine on the road but at the price qouted and being out of work is just impossible to meet,
Many thanks to all
regards
Steve

Hi,
My son has recently took over my spacewagon (as Ive now got a newer one) although when he was changing the autonator he touched some wires underneath causing a few sparks...
Now for the problem, he does not have the car charger working and also he does not have the dial for the heater working (1,2,3 etc... dial not the Cold to Hot dial.)
I am not entirely sure where to start with finding the fuse/relay so does anyone have any ideas?
I have check the fuses underneath the steering wheel but not the relays so really I need someone to tell me what relays may need changing?
Thanks in advance for anyone who may be able to solve this odd little drama!!!

Hi
I am wondering if there is anyone out there who have had experience replacing the valve lash adjusters of the Mitsubitshi Chariot and who would be kind enough to share the experience with me.
The reason for wanting to replace the valve lash adjusters is that the valve train makes alot of noise and the valves produces the infamous "ticking" sound common in this model. I am told the problem lies in the older generation valve lash adjusters installed in these cars.
I am interested in knowing the pitfalls in this endeavour and also if there is a tool that can easily lift the rocker off the lash adjuster.

First of all, hello to everyone, am new to here!
I have got a Jap 98/99 2.4GDI 4x4 6 seater Chariot. It was cutting out on idling before, hence a good clean up on the throttle body area, plugs and replaced the lambda sensor..problem solved, idles and runs smoothly....A week later, everything untouched, just added fresh jerry can full of fresh petrol, about to send it off to the test...the thing will only keep cranking over and will not start.
I have checked all cables and plugs are intact, all visible fuses, used the old trick wire on pin1 via obd socket to earth, key on ign before ignition - i was expecting the engine light to come on and give me a code... the outcome was, engine and gear N was flashing constantly in 0.5 sec (which should mean no problem) and (ABS) light flashes and provided me 2 codes, 24 and 52 . Does anyone know what does these 2 code means? Also borrowed and tried with a snap on solus pro and no joy as its doesn't speak japanese i suppose... Enclosed link to video uploaded to youtube below.
Error code clip2nd question, i have found there are a few empty slots in the fuse box, am i missing anything that it suppose to be there? As i got the car only a couple of months and it has never been on the road yet in my hand...still trying to get it up and running for the MOT test here in the UK.

Thanks in advance for all the people here, the post here helps alot!!

we are having a problem with my Dion. When I'm driving the red temp sign will light up and the gauge in the gas level will drop right down below the line. And then a few moments later the light will turn off the gas level will go back up to where it was.
Lots of coolant in reserve and in radiator, and my husband and just put in a new thermostat.
We have also noticed - don't know if connected - that it is losing oil (just little drops) at night from what appears to be the sump.
have no idea whats going on? Does anyone know? Thank you

Hi,
I recently removed the drivers seat in my chariot grandis 1998 N84W. After replacing the seat reconnected all the cables, when I start the car the SRS light stays on. Took is to a delear who connected a diagnostic tool it gave us the errors 82 R-SAB G Circuit 2 (I understand this is to do with right side air bag on the drivers seat) and 45 SRS DIAG.UNIT.
He cleared the error code and the tool showed cleared, however the SRS light persists on and on re-checking, the error codes are still there. The car has not been involved in any accident. Please help and assist me with a procedure of how the error codes can be removed.
Thanking you in advance.

Hi - we have a 1999 Spacewagon (2.4 GL GDi). Engine management light came on, mechanic diagnosed throttle body problem. We had repaired and refitted it.
After initialising (voltage and all that) problem seems to be gone (although the idling is a bit suspect).... until you switch off the engine. Switch it back on and the engine management light is back, limp mode etc. What could the problem be?
Spoke to a few mechanics but they say they've never seen this before.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi all I have a 1999 chariot import which is giving me a bit of trouble ? I have the dreaded running rough issues with the car ? When you drive it all of a sudden it starts jerking and banging ! Whenever you put load on it starts to play up ! I have so far changed the high pressure fuel pump which seemed to cure it but other day travelling at about 70-80 it started to missfire ? I have then added fuel injector cleaner and 10 k boost , took it for a drive and it's worse ! I have then took throttle body of and cleaned the crap of the flap etc it was very coked up ! The inlet manifold is too ! I put it back together and it ran really well for about 30 mins , then fault came back , engine management light on , missfiring etc ! I feel it is fuel related as car stars fine , I have donealot of work on this but it is now frustrating ! Any ideas anyone ? It seems common problem but would love to get to bottom of it !

Hi, hope someone can help, have owned a low mileage (50k) 2002 2.0 spacewagon for 2 months and decided to get the belts changed. All fine after for around 20 miles, wife starts car to come home and revs go straight to between 1500 and 3000 rpm. She manages to get it home (12 miles). I looked around the engine but couldn't see anything wrong to took it back to the garage where the belts were done. He couldn't find anything wrong and no fault codes on his diagnostic (small independant garage).
I decided to put injector cleaner in it. drove it next day and was ok. Drove it next day and the revs were low so increased the idle to 950 rpm. Wife goes to work in it and it starts conking out at traffic lights, roundabouts ect...Its now idleing around 500 to 800 rpm. Anyone had this problem with the 2.0 ? All idle and rev problems seem to be the 2.4.
I think its coincedence that this problem has started when the belts were done as this has nothing to do with the fueling?
Please help as i'm getting the blame from the wife as usual!

folks, need help on the TPS adjustment. I tried adjusting the position of the TPS and followed the back probing method on the TPS. I connected the channel 1 wire (2nd from top) to the + voltage probe of the DMM and the - voltage probe to the battery. Turned the key to ON (engine OFF), then measure the voltage. My initial measurement was 0.706 V. I loosened the bolt holding the TPD in place and started to adjust/turn up and down but I can't get any measurement near 0.6 V (the standard value as per service manual is 0.4 to 0.6V), it always play at 0.720 - 0.745. What else could be done to bring the voltage adjustment to standard value? Is there something that I missed? please help, anyone? by the way, if I trigger the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor to WOT, the butterfly on the throttle fully opens and the voltage measurement is at 4.5 V. This is the same reading I get at full close position in Channel 2 of the TPS (bottom pin). Service manual range is 4.2-4.8 V. Why can't I get the 0.4-0.6V? I will try again tomorrow and take pictures and share them so you could help me better. thanks.

Just got the 2009 car back from the dealer today after it was there for a week. If you bring the motor up to 1300-1500 RPMS theere is a rattling sound from the timing belt cover area. They replaced the tensioners with no avail. They had an Outlander their with the same motor and we brought it up to 1400 RPMs and it made the same sound. So the guys their are saying maybe its normal for the 2.4 motor. That is BS to me. I have read about sticking lifters, etc on these MIVEC motors. Anyone with any advice. This car has 6000kms and has rattled from day 1. Very frustrated. Embarassing in the morning as this is the idle speed that the car warms up at and god knows what will happen down the line. Maybe I'll call Mitsubishi as I am now at the mercy of the importer (waiting for their response). HELP. Thanks, Graham

Hello friends,
I have mitsubishi space wagon GDI, petrol manual, 2.4, 2001 model. I used to own previous model of space wagon as well (GLXi).
I have problem with car it start but revs never to up more than 2000. If I had identical problem with GLxi model then I think it could be due to distributor coil. I should expect faulty ignition coils? Can any one advise before I commit to purchase new coils or any other part could cause this type of problem in this model? In other words car is in limp mode. I know there are lot experience members are there to guide me or give your opinion or advice.
Your advice will appreciate.

Hello all...
Thought I would pick your brains on this issue, before I rip into it and do everything by trial and error.
Got a 1998 N84W 4G64 Chariot GDI Grandis 175 000kms
Here's the issue:
When you start the vehicle and its cold you have to hold your foot on the accelerator until it warms up otherwise it cuts out.
Once its warmed up a bit it idles fine and drive's and operates normal.
So it could be described like the auto choke isn't working or the idle air control valve is faulty???
Any suggestions on how to diagnose and/or fix the issue would be great!!!
Thank-you for reading
Regards: Jules...

Hi,
I just bought the 2000 Mitsubishi Chariot 2.4 GDi few months back and using it for quite some time now. After a few months of driving it, i notice that the engine starting to give a funny sound which cause the engine to die off, but still manage to run on the road. The engine stall during idling. Due to this problems, i send it to do an engine check up and the mechanic do a diagnose on it. He explain that might be some of the spark plug was faulty. I took his word for it and change all 4 (four) pieces to a new one (Mitsubishi original plugs) - cost me about RM300 (Approx. USD80). It went well for a few weeks and the problems start to come back again. But this time less that the previous problems.
The lattest one is that the engine was sounding like some misfiring sometimes and have a jerking effect. When i ram the paddle/ throttle the engine the engine sounds like there was a tiny explosion in the engine (Sound like tapping on the engine) and cause the car to run slower (loss of power) This usually happen when i'm driving at the speed of 100 - 140KM/hr. But sometimes happen at a low/ normal speed.
Could it be due to the spark plugs faulty, A/T oil need to change, leaking engine (cyl. head gasket), or somethig else. Could it be because of the fuel injector blocked?
If anyone here knows what is the cause and any solution please post it out or email me.
Thank You All

Hi everyone!
I have recently acquired a 1997 vintage Spacewagon in Cebu in the Philippines. Its a great little car, got a bit of punch in the engine and being here in Cebu there's no rust and so its in relatively good shape if a little dated. Cars here do not depreciate very quickly so whereas in the UK this one - with at least 150k KM's on the clock - would be worth about £500 in the UK its worth three times that here.
When I bought it I knew I was going to have problems with the auto box fairly soon. The changes - up and down - were erratic and unless you tempered your driving style to anticipate the change the upshifts were somewhat aggressive!
Inevitably the box started slipping firstly in third gear (it has 3 forward gears) then second then low and then one day forward drive dissapeared completly. It goes like a train in reverse but no response at all in any forward gear.
Mitsubishi here would rather just replace the unit with a new one which would cost $2000 plus, there's no 'Auto Gearbox Specialists' here either (incredibly) so the only option I have is to attempt to repair the unit myself.
I removed the box from the car which was pretty straightforward but got stuck when I couldn't remove the output shaft to drive shaft 'cup' joints. This meant I couldn't take a peek to see if the clutch pack was totally worn and in need of replacement - which I suspect as being the problem.
What wasn't healthy though was that the valve body/sump cover had taken a wallop at some point and the filter itself was dented and distorted meaning that ATF flow would have been impacted.
Having hit this brick wall I decided to clean it up, put a new filter in it, bash out the sump cover and pop the box back into the car to see if improved ATF flow (and new fluid) was in fact the problem (unlikely I know but i'm an eternal optimist!)
Sorry for the lengthy story - here are the questions!
1) With reverse but no forward gears am I right in suspecting the clutch pack?
2) Is it feasible to change the clutch pack without special tools?
3) Any other causes I should suspect? - Torque Converter, pressure feed etc?
4) How do those damn output shaft joints come off?
5) Am I right in understanding that I will need to add 7.8lts of ATF?
Any any other guidance would be most helpful!
Much appreciated

Not long after she bought the car it started to smoke, so she took it to a garge who reconditioned the cylinder head and then started to charge her for multiple item that wasnt included in the original quoted price. Any way the cylinder head was reconditioned new oil filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new oil and new timing belt then they said she needed a new cat even though it was the center pipe that was split. She demanded the car was returned. I have had the center pipe replaced for her but the idle runs at 2000 rev in park dropping to 1200 after 10 minutes or so. The idle will also fluctuate between 1500 and 2000 intermitently. The engine management light is on. I have an ELM327 which I tried but it could read the ecu as its an import.
Has anyone any suggestions on what could be causing the problem and does anyone know of a reader that will read the ecu. The car ran fine before apart from the smoke.
Thanks Barry

Hello everyone!! This is my 1st post being new to this forum. We have purchased a 2009 Grandis 2.4 liter Gasoline. We just had 2 children so this vehicle was necessary.... I was wondering if anyone knows of any Performane upgrades that I can do to squeeze a bit more power out....

Any advice, etc would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Graham (an American stuck in Finland lol)

Hi.
I have a 1996 Spacewagon 2lt Petrol engine.
It has failed the MOT test because the brake compensating valve is stuck.
The linkages seem to be moving? How do I check that it is working properly, what movement am I looking for?
How can I safely free the valve mechanism?
Currently the part is not available in the UK ( quoted at £200).
The valve comes as a complete assembly specific to this model. The valve will unbolt from the assembly. Does anyone know if the same valve is used on other makes of cars? or an overhaul kit available?
Thank you for your advice.

Thanks!

Hi
Hello .. this is my first topic at that forum ... and first problem with my Grandis.DID...looking for your help
I am confused about what I heard from official service concerns vibration in diesel equipped Grandis...
Short story begins in july when i bought (used however 100% checked against crashes etc) 2006 Grandis with 2.0 DID engine(the same as in VW) with 6 speed gear box.
I didn't notice anything during my "pre-transaction" trip with seller... when the "blood pressure" dropped i found smth strange ...
When I press accelerating pedal (not iddle) from 1700 to 2500 rt/m I feel "massage" in my foot at each gears...
Official service checked it and informed me .. This Model Has Somthing Like That.. you should get used to it....
If you have any expierience with similar trouble(or not trouble).. pleas share it
Thx(sorry my mistakes..)

Yesterday went down the road with a normally perfect Spacewagon that Ive have no trouble from before (well since ive had it at least)
going down road, it suddenly made a strange noise so I took my foot off of accelerator and it stopped, done it again so pulled over...
We assessed all the belts and found the Cam Belt was the problem along the belt about 6 inches of teeth were gone but didnt break. Very strange?
Anyone else had this trouble and do you know the reason/help in sorting it. The belt was quite oily so the person who had the vehicle before me could of had an oil leak maybe?
Thanks if anyone can help in advance (tried to give as much info as possible)

As we are freezing here either my alternator or power steering belt have deicided to squeel for about 30 secs at a cold start up. I've had a looksy and can't see how to tension them. Now it was a half assed look as its dark but am off tomorrow so going to have a look and see. Just asking what i'm looking for to release then to adjust. Its a 98 2.4 gdi.

I have to replace the clutch in a 97 Nimbus. What is the general procedure? Do I need to remove the engine or is there a procedure to drop the gearbox off without removing the motor? Haven't been able to find a manual so would appreciate any info.

First press of the remote locks the doors.
Second press closes the windows.
Third press folds the mirrors.
Problem:- Second stage or press the windows not closing, but with the buttons on the door they are closing and opening.

Hi,I'm new on here & need help please.
Last weekend I crashed my spacewagon, wrote off the tailgate! I went to a salvage yard & bought an identical tailgate & fitted it, however when I wired up the various parts I seem to have knocked out some fuses. I doublechecked the wiring & it seems fine, I replaced the central locking fuse & that now seems fine but, for some reason my lcd display & stereo are down, my automatic choke isn't kicking in, my trip counter resets every time I switch off, basically everything that seems to need a memory (even the 30 seconds extra time to close elec windows after shutting off has gone!) has stopped. I've been thru the standard fusebox & can't find whats down. Any clues or is it a visit to the repair shop? Thank you.

i've this problem on the loss of M-Oil. Is it good to use the liquid sealant (which is commonly poured into the engine oil compartment for 30 min and seal the leak - minor)
most welcome to comment
