folks, need help on the TPS adjustment. I tried adjusting the position of the TPS and followed the back probing method on the TPS. I connected the channel 1 wire (2nd from top) to the + voltage probe of the DMM and the - voltage probe to the battery. Turned the key to ON (engine OFF), then measure the voltage. My initial measurement was 0.706 V. I loosened the bolt holding the TPD in place and started to adjust/turn up and down but I can't get any measurement near 0.6 V (the standard value as per service manual is 0.4 to 0.6V), it always play at 0.720 - 0.745. What else could be done to bring the voltage adjustment to standard value? Is there something that I missed? please help, anyone? by the way, if I trigger the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor to WOT, the butterfly on the throttle fully opens and the voltage measurement is at 4.5 V. This is the same reading I get at full close position in Channel 2 of the TPS (bottom pin). Service manual range is 4.2-4.8 V. Why can't I get the 0.4-0.6V? I will try again tomorrow and take pictures and share them so you could help me better. thanks.

Just got the 2009 car back from the dealer today after it was there for a week. If you bring the motor up to 1300-1500 RPMS theere is a rattling sound from the timing belt cover area. They replaced the tensioners with no avail. They had an Outlander their with the same motor and we brought it up to 1400 RPMs and it made the same sound. So the guys their are saying maybe its normal for the 2.4 motor. That is BS to me. I have read about sticking lifters, etc on these MIVEC motors. Anyone with any advice. This car has 6000kms and has rattled from day 1. Very frustrated. Embarassing in the morning as this is the idle speed that the car warms up at and god knows what will happen down the line. Maybe I'll call Mitsubishi as I am now at the mercy of the importer (waiting for their response). HELP. Thanks, Graham

Hello friends,
I have mitsubishi space wagon GDI, petrol manual, 2.4, 2001 model. I used to own previous model of space wagon as well (GLXi).
I have problem with car it start but revs never to up more than 2000. If I had identical problem with GLxi model then I think it could be due to distributor coil. I should expect faulty ignition coils? Can any one advise before I commit to purchase new coils or any other part could cause this type of problem in this model? In other words car is in limp mode. I know there are lot experience members are there to guide me or give your opinion or advice.
Your advice will appreciate.

Hello all...
Thought I would pick your brains on this issue, before I rip into it and do everything by trial and error.
Got a 1998 N84W 4G64 Chariot GDI Grandis 175 000kms
Here's the issue:
When you start the vehicle and its cold you have to hold your foot on the accelerator until it warms up otherwise it cuts out.
Once its warmed up a bit it idles fine and drive's and operates normal.
So it could be described like the auto choke isn't working or the idle air control valve is faulty???
Any suggestions on how to diagnose and/or fix the issue would be great!!!
Thank-you for reading
Regards: Jules...

Hi,
I just bought the 2000 Mitsubishi Chariot 2.4 GDi few months back and using it for quite some time now. After a few months of driving it, i notice that the engine starting to give a funny sound which cause the engine to die off, but still manage to run on the road. The engine stall during idling. Due to this problems, i send it to do an engine check up and the mechanic do a diagnose on it. He explain that might be some of the spark plug was faulty. I took his word for it and change all 4 (four) pieces to a new one (Mitsubishi original plugs) - cost me about RM300 (Approx. USD80). It went well for a few weeks and the problems start to come back again. But this time less that the previous problems.
The lattest one is that the engine was sounding like some misfiring sometimes and have a jerking effect. When i ram the paddle/ throttle the engine the engine sounds like there was a tiny explosion in the engine (Sound like tapping on the engine) and cause the car to run slower (loss of power) This usually happen when i'm driving at the speed of 100 - 140KM/hr. But sometimes happen at a low/ normal speed.
Could it be due to the spark plugs faulty, A/T oil need to change, leaking engine (cyl. head gasket), or somethig else. Could it be because of the fuel injector blocked?
If anyone here knows what is the cause and any solution please post it out or email me.
Thank You All

Hi everyone!
I have recently acquired a 1997 vintage Spacewagon in Cebu in the Philippines. Its a great little car, got a bit of punch in the engine and being here in Cebu there's no rust and so its in relatively good shape if a little dated. Cars here do not depreciate very quickly so whereas in the UK this one - with at least 150k KM's on the clock - would be worth about £500 in the UK its worth three times that here.
When I bought it I knew I was going to have problems with the auto box fairly soon. The changes - up and down - were erratic and unless you tempered your driving style to anticipate the change the upshifts were somewhat aggressive!
Inevitably the box started slipping firstly in third gear (it has 3 forward gears) then second then low and then one day forward drive dissapeared completly. It goes like a train in reverse but no response at all in any forward gear.
Mitsubishi here would rather just replace the unit with a new one which would cost $2000 plus, there's no 'Auto Gearbox Specialists' here either (incredibly) so the only option I have is to attempt to repair the unit myself.
I removed the box from the car which was pretty straightforward but got stuck when I couldn't remove the output shaft to drive shaft 'cup' joints. This meant I couldn't take a peek to see if the clutch pack was totally worn and in need of replacement - which I suspect as being the problem.
What wasn't healthy though was that the valve body/sump cover had taken a wallop at some point and the filter itself was dented and distorted meaning that ATF flow would have been impacted.
Having hit this brick wall I decided to clean it up, put a new filter in it, bash out the sump cover and pop the box back into the car to see if improved ATF flow (and new fluid) was in fact the problem (unlikely I know but i'm an eternal optimist!)
Sorry for the lengthy story - here are the questions!
1) With reverse but no forward gears am I right in suspecting the clutch pack?
2) Is it feasible to change the clutch pack without special tools?
3) Any other causes I should suspect? - Torque Converter, pressure feed etc?
4) How do those damn output shaft joints come off?
5) Am I right in understanding that I will need to add 7.8lts of ATF?
Any any other guidance would be most helpful!
Much appreciated

Hi, I have a problem with a friends car but I will need to give you the full story. So here goes
She has a 1998 Mitsubishi Space Wagon (Chariot Grandis) 2.4 GDI auto import. Not long after she bought the car it started to smoke, so she took it to a garge who reconditioned the cylinder head and then started to charge her for multiple item that wasnt included in the original quoted price. Any way the cylinder head was reconditioned new oil filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new oil and new timing belt then they said she needed a new cat even though it was the center pipe that was split. She demanded the car was returned. I have had the center pipe replaced for her but the idle runs at 2000 rev in park dropping to 1200 after 10 minutes or so. The idle will also fluctuate between 1500 and 2000 intermitently. The engine management light is on. I have an ELM327 which I tried but it could read the ecu as its an import.
Has anyone any suggestions on what could be causing the problem and does anyone know of a reader that will read the ecu. The car ran fine before apart from the smoke.
Thanks Barry

Hi.
I have a 1996 Spacewagon 2lt Petrol engine.
It has failed the MOT test because the brake compensating valve is stuck.
The linkages seem to be moving? How do I check that it is working properly, what movement am I looking for?
How can I safely free the valve mechanism?
Currently the part is not available in the UK ( quoted at £200).
The valve comes as a complete assembly specific to this model. The valve will unbolt from the assembly. Does anyone know if the same valve is used on other makes of cars? or an overhaul kit available?
Thank you for your advice.

Hi
Hello .. this is my first topic at that forum ... and first problem with my Grandis.DID...looking for your help
I am confused about what I heard from official service concerns vibration in diesel equipped Grandis...
Short story begins in july when i bought (used however 100% checked against crashes etc) 2006 Grandis with 2.0 DID engine(the same as in VW) with 6 speed gear box.
I didn't notice anything during my "pre-transaction" trip with seller... when the "blood pressure" dropped i found smth strange ...
When I press accelerating pedal (not iddle) from 1700 to 2500 rt/m I feel "massage" in my foot at each gears...
Official service checked it and informed me .. This Model Has Somthing Like That.. you should get used to it....
If you have any expierience with similar trouble(or not trouble).. pleas share it
Thx(sorry my mistakes..)

Yesterday went down the road with a normally perfect Spacewagon that Ive have no trouble from before (well since ive had it at least)
going down road, it suddenly made a strange noise so I took my foot off of accelerator and it stopped, done it again so pulled over...
We assessed all the belts and found the Cam Belt was the problem along the belt about 6 inches of teeth were gone but didnt break. Very strange?
Anyone else had this trouble and do you know the reason/help in sorting it. The belt was quite oily so the person who had the vehicle before me could of had an oil leak maybe?
Thanks if anyone can help in advance (tried to give as much info as possible)

Hi,I'm new on here & need help please.
Last weekend I crashed my spacewagon, wrote off the tailgate! I went to a salvage yard & bought an identical tailgate & fitted it, however when I wired up the various parts I seem to have knocked out some fuses. I doublechecked the wiring & it seems fine, I replaced the central locking fuse & that now seems fine but, for some reason my lcd display & stereo are down, my automatic choke isn't kicking in, my trip counter resets every time I switch off, basically everything that seems to need a memory (even the 30 seconds extra time to close elec windows after shutting off has gone!) has stopped. I've been thru the standard fusebox & can't find whats down. Any clues or is it a visit to the repair shop? Thank you.

Hi All,
I am a newbie to this site which i found whilst surfing for an answer to areoccuring problem with my spacewagon 2.4 GDI (2000) and am hoping someone out there may be able to help.
There is an exact same post in april last year by J F but doesnt say if or how he resolved it.
Eight weeks ago my car wouldnt start the AA came out and said it appeared to be a problem with the throttle sender and towed me tothe garage where they diagnosed that the throttle body was faulty and duly sent it for refeb. When done the car ran lovely (for 3 Days) before same problem the garage went throught the mitsu reset program (disconnect battery run a/c for so long and such things) and gave it back to me again for it to go again after a couple of days. They've sent the unit back to be checked and that appears to be ok but the problem still keeps occuring. The garage say they've done all they can but i need to find out from some of you obviously knowledgable people if there is anything else i can suggest or do? We've had the car for 5years only done 60k and is my wifes pride and joy. If you can help it would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Patrick

Pleased to have discovered this forum and hope to get some help/advice.
I noticed that the front right side light on my 2005 Grandis diesel was not working. Upon inspection I found that the small push in bulb had come out of its holder and lodged near the bottom of the front lights cover.
For fitting a new bulb the manual says take the vehicle to a Mitsubishi dealer !
Unfortunately in our area there is a new main dealer whose mechanic (factory trained they assured me ) spent nearly 1 hour without success just trying to fit a new bulb let alone fishing out the old one.
The upshot of this is that they want to charge me £80, needing to remove the front bumper and front lights cowling.
Can this be correct ? Have any Grandis owners had the same problem and if so could a non- mechanic handyman do the work.
Thanks in advance

Hi all.
My 98 chariot 2.4 gdi auto is driving fine, but when coming home this evening noticed that the 'd' light in the auto bax display on the dash was flashing at me. Would flash at different speeds as well, sometimes a fast flash, other times a slow flash, other times steady on. Pulled over and switshed off and on but same prob after a few seconds. Car is going up and down fine in auto mode and in the manual mode and no noticable difference in the car. In fairness she seems better than ever lately.
Any ideas whats going on?
Thanks

I have a '97 Spacewagon 2.0 automatic that just started acting odd. Last evening after a 2 hr journey I was almost home and accelerated from a roundabout, the automatic gearbox should have downshifted into 1st from 2nd as I was doing 15-20 MPH when I started to accelerate but it kind of went into what felt like inbetween gear mode and didnt feel right, nor did it accelerate as well as it should (hovering around 4000 RPM) and not wanting to climb higher until I let off and it fully went into the next gear, then it went off as it should.
This morning with the car being stone cold I went out in it and immediatly noticed the shifting was way to crisp, actually it was harsh, feeling like someone was hitting the car hard from behind at each gear change. When slowing down the same effect happens as the gearbox downshifts and that jolting feeling accompanies each downshift as well as the upshifts.
However after driving for 5 mins and it was warmed up, the jolting shifts faded away quickly and it shifts normally as it always has in the past.
I thought it best to mention that even when the shifting was rough, it was shifting and downshifting at the right times and not hesitant at all. I would appreciate anyone having similar experience commenting as I'm just wondering if gearbox failure is imminent or if it has a while before anything bad happens.
Thanks,
Dan

Dear all
New to this forum so hello and thanks for reading
In short I have the task of MOT'ing my Sisters Japanese Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis Super Exceed GDI (2.4 I think) and I need an exhaust (amongst other things)
Question: Is there a UK version of this car that I can use the exhaust from? Japarts wants nearly £1k for a new exhaust which is just silly!
The car was GIVEN to my Sister from a very good friend of hers. It's a Japanese import taken to France and is now in the UK, it's been standing for 3 years (started on the button and runs lovely still) as it has a French number plate; by all accounts there is something about it being 10 years old or more that makes it easier to register and get a UK plate?
I may need other things including a power steering pump, bushes/wishbones?
Would anyone have any info that would make my Sisters day? (She LOVES this car!)
Best, Mike

Hi - here's hoping someone can help. My 2001 2.4 GDI Space Wagon engine suddenly died as I was driving along. It would not restart.Called out RAC and I was told that a fault code P0300 was picked up by the RAC guys code reader. This apparently is a multi cylinder misfire.Does anyone have any ideas how this happens or is cured.Fingers crossed.

Hi
I've had my chaariot since the start of the year and its been spot on, but recently when doing 120kph or above, under accelaration there is a deep rumbling grumbling noise that you can feel in the car. Suspected it was a bearing as it sounded a lot like that and i replaced the front left one. (The right was done a month before). There was a substancial amount of play in it.
But the noise is still there. It does sound like a really serious sort of noise. Its an 97 auto 2.4gdi 4wd. The box is shifting fine and smoothly, engine is using no oil, the auto box oil is fine and pink. To be honest i'm suspecting the propshaft or the box. Staying at a constant speed above 120kph is fine with no issue but its under accelaration it does it. It might be my imagination but i feel that it happens more so when turning left too.
Any ideas appreciate it.
Thanks

Does anyone know of any cheap but cheerfull diagnostic tools read/clear error codes for the Mitsubishi Grandis?
I have a cable that works for my Skoda Fabia with the old version of VAG-COM but that doesn't do OBD II (which I belive is what I need for the Grandis).

Hi,
I own a 55-reg 2006 model Mitsubishi Grandis Warrior 2.0 DI-d. It starts very well first thing but when you drive it a little, stop for a few minutes and then try to start again, the engine starts and stops straight away. This might happen 3-10 times and then everything is well again.
Any ideas? No warning lights come on.
Thanks,

Can anyone tell me how you'd notice that a new timing belt's been ftd to my car? I bought a 2004 Grandis 2.4 Petrol (Auto) from a main dealer, with 54,060 mls. I'm driving a 2000 Chariot 2.4 GDI and my gas consumption on the display gives 5-6 km/L on city drive. On a full tank (50L), the total computed km is roughly at 280-300 kms. Is there a way to check if the display still gives a near accurate numbers? How can this be calibrated?
On a computed consumption, I am running at 7 km/L only. The clock is at 220k, i have ordered Japan Mitsu original parts (overhaul kits), pistons, rings, valves, everything... and will have the engine cleaned as new. Hopefully, after doing this, I'll make it to 10km/L.

Hi all. I own a 1994 2.0 petrol Mitsubishi Chariot which is a Japanese import here in Ireland. (I believe its a 4G63 engine???)
I bought the car about 8 years ago and drove it for about 4 years, and then no longer really required a 7 seater, but still held on to it
Anyway, last year I needed it for a couple of weeks when I had friends staying, so I was using it and had no issues at all, until one day, just when pulling out of a car park, I was down the road in about 2nd gear and heard a rattling noise. When I depressed the clutch, the rattle would go, but once I engaged gear again, the rattle came back. I continued trying this over the space of about 20-30 seconds and was almost stopped at this stage.
As I was only about 500 meters away from where I was going, I decided I'd just let it continue very slowly in 2nd gear, and kept clutching to keep the noise to a minimum. Then, all of a sudden, the car stopped dead.
Tried restarting it a few times and the engine turned, but it sounded peculiar. I think the only way I could describe it was as if there was absolutely no compression there at all. Even though I don't KNOW that sound, I can fairly well guess what it's like and I assume this is it.
So, I pushed the car back the last few hundred meters, had it towed home and long story short, it has sat outside ever since. I am not stuck for it, but recently decided its either going to work, or get rid of it.
Before I go any further here, I am not going to start putting money into it as its just not worth it here. It also needs NCT (MOT) cert and other bits need to be done and you'd possibly buy a running one for a couple of hundred euros anyway.
My question is this... I assumed that day and ever since, that the timing belt had gone and that would explain the lack of compression. As for the rattling, I was told it could have been a tensioner, but would pressing the clutch in each time stop that sound? If it seems like timing belt, is it a simple job to check if its gone, or do you have to remove so much of the engine etc, that you are as well off change the belt anyway?

Initially the car was running almost ok except that the fuel consumption was abnomal, then I had to take it for Diagnosis, the report zeroed on Throttle valve positioning. However after the mechanic tried to correct the positioning the car could only do 2000 raves and the engine check light is continueously showing, resulting in loss of power. I have been advised to replace the whole unit but am failing to find it locally.
Does anyone know where I can get an affordable replacement new or used preferably Zimbabwe or SouthAfrica. Please

Hi Members,
Can you please help to locate the ISCV on the throttle body? I attached a photograph of throttle body for you to view and tell which one is the ISCV. I marked two parts in the picture I suspect one of them is ISCV. I need to clean the part to stop the stalling problem because currently idle control of the car is not working. Throttle Body belong to my 1994 Mitsubishi Spacewagon 2.0 Glxi , manual, petrol. I appreciate your input.
