Well folks, after the advice i found on here i have cured the loud tappets on my Space Wagon 2ltr GLXi Auto (97), i gave it a flushing out , then new filter and oil replenished with good quality semi synthetic oil.
I then took it on a ten mile run, got it nice and hot, then i tipped in a bottle of Molyslip 2001E,(off ebay) on the drive back, i couldnt believe how incredibly smooth the engine seemed to be running, also it seemed more responsive, and when i got into town traffic it definatly was more responsive and more to the point, the tapping had dissapeared.
Honestly,, i was told about additives before but somehow i thought they were gimmicks like the old redex stuff, but i thought what the hell, the garage wanted mega bucks to do anything to help, so i chucked caution to the wind,,and hey,,!! i started up this morning from cold, and no tapping,, thats the reward,, ime well pleased, now i cant hear it ticking over in traffick, so to all you sceptics out there, give it a go, its brilliant.

Hello,
Could someone please let me know what the bottom crankshaft pulley is. I assume it's the pulley attached to the engine but what is it connectd to (on a Space Wagon GLXi, M reg (94/95)).
I need to drive about 50 miles round trip as soon as possible (preferalby within a few hours, or a couple of days at most)... would it be safe to drive? (A fast resonse would be useful too). At the moment the car is making a loud clicking/knocking sound, whose frequency increases as I accelerrate.
Also, could someone let me know where I could get hold of one and fitted (near Newcastle upon Tyne). I took my car to a Nationwide Autocentre but they said that they couldn't help because the Mitsubishi dealer won't sell the part since the car is a grey import. They suggested perhaps going to a more lenient dealer or a scrape yard... know of any that might have one.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Bernard

Hi. I am hoping someone would be able to help me with a problem I have on my 1999 Spacewagon. The A/C light in the switch does not come on at times when pressed. The engine rev's increase a little which would indicate that the A/C is coming on, and the air does get colder. If I was to move the mode switch to direct the air flow, the A/C light usually comes on while I am turning the switch and then stays on. I have noticed the car tends to "hunt" while the A/C is on too. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all. Am the owner of a 97 jap import 2.4GDI Chariot (called Boadicea) thats done 130000km. Had it professionaly inspected before buying and runs well. BUT the steering has started to creak underneath when turning the wheel around half lock(like when driving into a parking space at the shops etc) Seems to be a creaking sound and would take a guess that its mainly on the drivers side. No play in the steering otherwise so am guessing that it could be the rack or ball joints? Can anyone advise if they've had similar problems and how they went about it.

Hi,
I have a 1996 2 Ltr. petrol Spacewagon. I cannot find any info in the owners manual on the timing belt change intervals.
The previous owner has a garage service bill showing it was changed at 54,000 miles.
I am now up to 109,000.
When is it due for replacement?
Thanks.

Hi I have been trying to sort out my gearbox problem (see japanese import post)
I have had various companys and main dealers plug onto my system and try to diagnose the problem and attempt to get a code fault for the gearbox.
Some cannot communicate with the ECU and some can. The outcome is that there are no fault codes showing on the system.
Does anybody know if a Mitsubushi chariot MZ 1994 has a combined ECU (i.e for engine management and automatic gearbox) or two seperate ECU,s as I am getting conflicting information from variouse dealers.
I would like to try a replacement ECU but need to know what type and where they are located cheers

I went to go on a short journey this evening and immediatly felt that the gear selector felt slightly stiffer than usual. After running for about 1 hour I had to get turned around, when I went into reverse it went in and out of neutral but slowly got me reversed. When I got home it went right into reverse but I cant help wondering if this is the start of a serious problem. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks in advance.

Greetings Guys,
I have a burning question. Is there such a thing as a optimal engine coolant and intake temp for the Grandis 4G69 engine. I am considering changing my stock themostat (82 deg) to Ralliart (71 deg). Also want to pad the intake ducts with insulation and partion this section from the engine to prevent heat built up here. The engine bay for this car is petty hot! What are your comment? Cheers.

Hi the story is long and sad but the bottom line is that the people who reconditioned my steering rack have 'lost' the flexi hoses that go from the rack to the rest of the pipe work.
Talking with Mitsi they say that it will take 2 weeks to order from Japan, but i was wondering if anyone knows where i could get these hoses from (secondhand or new) or if the same hoses are used on uk spec cars.
thanks for your help

Having been quoted 460 GBP for a set of 16 lash adjusters by local Mitsi dealer (NOT including fitting), I found somewhere MUCH cheaper, here
Parts Dinosaur. The only downside is he won't ship to non-US addresses but I'm sure folks can find ways around that.
His price is 4.95 USD each, 79.20 USD or just a whisker over 43 GBP. Listen, I don't mind dealers making a profit by a TEN TIMES mark-up?!?
If you're in the UK and don't have a friendly US citizen to order and ship on your behalf, I found
PRI Racing also. Even at 188 GBP, you'll still be quids in on dealer prices.

My Space wagon (Chariot) MMX 1994 AT, just stopped dead, tried all the obvious things, spark, charged battery, checked distributor, cam belt turns, the tappets, so, running out of fault finding ideas.
Maybe fuel pump, but I don't know where it is.
Tried to check the ECU can't see it even by the passenger's side, any idea on where it is & how to get to it would be most appreciated. Before I was starting it with difficulties exhausting the battery before it could start with the help of another battery. when it's warm it start with no problem, after the engine is cold it won't start or every 2 hours i must started it. I m finished don't know what to do anymore. It's the only car I have.
Thanks in advance.

Hi This is my first post I wonder if anybody has come across this problem before?
My gearbox runs smooth but does not appear to change gear it pulls away slowly and then will run in what appears a single gear up to eighty MPH no problem.
I have another auto car and the gear change is quite noticable. The power switch or gear shift lever makes no difference. Having had gearbox problems before I know how expensive a game it can be.
Any advice good or bad will be much appreiciated cheers

Hi folks,
I have a 2000 model Nimbus which has the 4g64 engine. It has started pinking and looking at the previous messages it seems that it may be in need of a de-coke. I have changed the plugs and the oil and this improved it but its still there.
I intend to do the work myself but i have some questions.
1. I cant find a manual for the car so which other mitsubishi that I can get a manual for, has this engine.
2. Are there any special tools required for this engine.
3. Are there any special techniques involved in the de-coke.
I am not new to doing this sort of work but i am new to mitsubishis so any help would be appreciated.

hi everyone, I'm new to these boards but i was wondering if anyone could help me?
Recently i have purchased a year 99 space wagon. everything has been fine until last few weeks when the car was taking a couple of attempts to start but when it would start it would seem to lose power without cutting out whilst the car was stationary.
Then last week the car would not start so we jumped started it and that was fine. the next day the battery was totally dead so we replaced the battery. Everything was fine but then around 6 hours later the new battery was dead. Our neighbour who is a mechanic came to have a look nad siad that because the doors wer not flush the drivers door light was staying on which drained the battery. The lights were disconnected and left overnight. The next day the car started but lost power and cut out straight away, though the radio would work so we knew the battery wasn't to blame.
We had a couple of suggestions such as the alternator was faulty, so we called an auto electrician who said that if the car was starting but then cutting out and the radio was working it wouldn't need an auto electrician to look at this. So we called an tuning company who came out and they said it was the body throttle adn would cost around £1200 to get this fixed. He said he had done something has a tempory measure and at the moment the car works fine e.g starting and not losing power. Does anyone know what it maybe or has experienced similar kind of problems and what was the fault, as i don't fancy paying out £1200 on an item when imay not be needed

Just happened on this site and read a few related topics so I'm wondering if anyone out there can help me. I have a 1996 Space Wagon and four kids who need ferrying around and no means of transport whilst I'm off the road. The up until now wouldn't start until it was jumped but would run fine as if it was ok and would stop and start until it was left for more than 12 hours. It's had a new battery, new alternator and a new ignition coil(?) has been working ok until last Sunday when it just conked out and had to be towed home and now it won't start at all. Can anyone help and or advise to a kilely cause? Ta

My 1991/92 Space Wagon, 1.8 l engine, has run great for years. Recently, rather than idling at about 700-800 rpms it started idling at 1800-2000, sometimes cycling down to 700-800 then immediately back up to 1800-2000.
Any suggestions? I am slowed in getting attention from my mechanic due to a long holiday weekend.
Thanks

Hi all....
I am new in this forum and I hope that the other members can be of assistance.
I would appreciate if any of the members here can help me with the part number for 1993 Space Wagon 2.0 distributor. I've tried to look at the distributor on my car but couldn't find any part number on it.
I would also would be grateful if you can tell me whether the distributor from a Mitsubishi RVR-Z (1.8 I think) can be used in my Space Wagon.
Thanks in advance for all of your help.
