Dear Sir,
I have Space Star 2002 model and I do not have it user manual. In starting it was showing remaining KM in display and now somehow it is reset and only show KM/L or L/100 Km but no option to display remaining KM. It will be great if some one tell me how I can show remaining KM in Display.
Best Regards,
Rhyme

Where have all the SpaceStar drivers using this forum gone to.....??
Last post was mine back in March!
This used to be a great forum for getting answers and discussion on a superb niche car......is it cos the car is getting old and many were dumped with the scrappage scheme?....must be some SpaceStar drivers left on the road, surely...!?
Can some one tell me of other forum websites that are at least active for Mitsi drivers please....

I found the following in another forum on this site and they definitely work for the type of fob described which my Spacestar has.
central locking remotes(not alarm remotes) can be reprogrammed very easily.
press and hold both buttons on the remote until the light stays on permanently(usually about 10seconds).
this conditions the remotes for reprogramming.
you have to do all remotes when you do this.
next turn the key on to the run position.
then press the lock button on one remote and it should flash and go out.
then do the other remote.this should resynch the remote.
turn the key off and try.
if you happen to take too long between conditioning the remotes and reprogramming the light may go out on the remote.
simply press either remote button and the light should come back on solid again.
This will occassionaly work on the alarm fobs as well but most times you need the alarm code and the bullet plug for these.
hope this helps you all
AS AN EXTRA FOOTNOTE THIS ONLY IS FOR THE COBRA KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE WHICH CAN
BE IDENTIFIED EASILY AS A ROUND BLACK REMOTE WITH A LARGE AND SMALL GREY BUTTON.
IT WILL ALSO HAVE A RUBBER TAIL IN WHICH TO ATTACH IT TO YOUR KEYCHAIN.

Any help appreciated: 2002 SS 1.9 D-iD Equipe.
Both my rear number plate lights have gone out, presumably the fuse. Anyone know the fuse number and size required?
Also I need a new front left black plastic bumper gaiter which fits under the light housing.
Cheers

Does anyone know if the lighter socket is wired directly to the fusebox?
I know the lighter socket is only powered when the ignition is on, but I need to add a reverse diode to bypass this so that I can add a solar panel to re-charge the battery when the car is sitting in the driveway (i.e. the power will be going into the battery instead of away from it).
The best place to do this would be in the back of the main fuse box but I dont know if the power goes Battery--Ignition--Regulator--Fuse--Socket.

After reading through the posts on this forum a came accross plenty of stalling and idle speed probs, my Space Star was doing the same thing mostly when hot but recently (last few days )stalling at every junction which was a pain in the backside, so i relearned the ECU but to no avail, checked and cleaned up the plugs with no success, the the cleaning of the THROTTLE BODY

didnt even have to remove from the car, a little carb cleaner and a rag and a few cotton buds later and the old GDI is purring like a kitten and has also knocked the MPG up another 7 miles to gallon according to the digital fuel display so im well happy and thanks to everyone who donated to the sollution on here, cheers all Andy

Hi everyone im new to the forum but cant seem to find the new member introduction button so Hello to all again,
hope someone can help me, i bought a y reg 2001 Space Star 1.8 glx gdi with what i thought was a noisey thrust bearing

unfortunatley i now think it could be gearbox problem, when i start the car in neutral it makes a grinding noise but when i press the clutch down the noise goes away and comes back when taking my foot off the clutch, it makes the grinding noise throughout the 5 gears when driving , i was wondering if there is any oils available to reduce the noise for a while untill i can afford the have the box reconditioned?also how do i change the Gearbox oil (ie where is the filler hole and drain hole) and how much oil will i need and what kind of oil? Many thanks in advance and sorry for not introducing myself through the propper channels but ill get the hang of the forum buttons, My name is ANDYCUSH and look forwards to any info on the above problems, Great car shame about the gearbox, thanks all, Andy

Hi
I am new to the forum and joined after search in googles. The reason is that the rev. needle of my mits. spacestar (1.8 equipe petrol) is fluctuating and ocassionaly engine stalls while waiting in long ques or on traffic lights etc.
I have been told to replace the throttle body which is a very expensive business.
Is there any alternative?
Thanks

My Space Star has low mileage just 40,000.
It now needs a service (No 6) based on time elapsed of 5 years.
This is equivalent to a 54,000 mile service and the schedule calls for a Cam Belt change.
My local garage is a Unipart Service Centre which has always given me excellent service at reasonable cost.
They plan to fit a Unipart Cam Belt kit which comprises of a belt and tensioner pulley. Is this all that is required?
As far as I know the Unipart spares are of equivalent quality to genuine Mitsubishi parts?
I assume the water pump is driven from the same belt on these diesel engines?
If this is a correct assumption, should I have the pump replaced at the same time?
Thanks

Hello everyone
I bought a w reg GLX GDI space star only last week. Was chuffed to bits with it although noticed that it seemed to stall/cut out sometimes when I slowed down or stopped. Obviously I put this down to getting used to the car and clutch control for a while but it is still happening and now I am really worried that there ids a major problem with my motor. I have been frantically looking through forums etc and noticed that quite a few space star owners have similar problem.
The car is fine when going along and starts well, but if I slow down to approach traffic lights of want to stop it can randomnly cut out and the battery and oil lughts go on. This happens even if I have my foot on the clutch. I had it serviced the other day and they changed the park plugs but the problem is still there. I am going to take it back to the garage but would really like to have a few ideas about what the problem could be so that I don't look like a complete plonker!! So far, from reading other posts, suggestions seem to be
1) Clean throttle
2) New idle control valve
3) Something about checking idle rev limits??
4) Disconnect the battery then connect and run car for 10 mins with no revs.
Please can anyone help? Is this a common problem with space stars? Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it?
I would be so grateful for a reply, Thanks! Vicky

My wife has a 2000 1.3 GLX petrol model, and something odd’s happening with the parking lamps. They just wouldn’t turn off unless you took the two 10 amp fuses out of the engine compartment fuse-box

.
Another odd symptom is that, when you turn on the headlamps, the dash-lights don’t dim like they’re supposed to.
When the light-switch was in the off position, and the two fuses were put back in, the lights remained off for half an hour or so, before magically turning on again (the switch was still off).
I left the two fuses out for a couple of days, before going back to it. This time, after the fuses were put back in, the parking lights don’t work at all.
Has anyone got any bright ideas as to what the problem could be?
I’ve got the wiring diagram and workshop manual download, but they seem a little short on information, so I can’t figure out whether it’s to do with switches, relays, or whatever.

Hello, I'm new to all this and not very mechanical minded.
My 2003 Spacestar 1.3 manual has developed very loose gears, it goes into gear ok but has lots of play in each 1.
Is there a quick fix for this?
I'm also now getting a rattle when turning slow corner which sounds like the drive shaft, could this be related?
Thanks.

Hi all

this is my first post. I purchased a Silver Space Star Diesel for my dad 2 months ago from a garage in Blackburn lancashire on a 53 plate. I drove it home to Glasgow and i must say i am very impressed with the drive the comfort the economy and the torque. It has been doing very well until yesterday it would not start so i left it for 5 then tried again but to no avail. My father came out to try it and the same again. I then tried again and it started! so off i went to the shop but when i came back out the same thing happened again until it eventually started. The battery is as strong as an Ox so no problems there. To me it feels either fuel related or electrical. If anyone could be of some help it would be very much appreciated. PS: The car is a one owner and was serviced about 4/5 months ago and has 48.000 mls on it.
Many thanks in advance. Regards. Starfall

Some digits were missing segments off my multi function display. I took a deep breath and re-soldered each of the many pins along the top edge of the circuit board inside it. After a couple of attempts - problem solved! It seems that the original soldering wasn't the world's best quality and some of the solder joints had become dry over time. This has of course saved megabucks.

My 01 X reg Space Star 1.8 GDI auto ticks over at nearly 2000 rpm. I've tried disconnecting the battery for several hours then leaving it on tickover for 15 mins. I've also cleaned out the throttle body (although it wasn't carboned up). When I unplug the MAF sensor the engine slows down. Does this mean that the MAF sensor is shot, or could there be some other problem? I can't find an idle air control valve anywhere. I'm baffled!

Apologies for posting a problem query as my second post here.
My OBD tester reads a PO135 fault, which I know is a front CO sensor fault.
Have changed both front and rear sensors for new ones, but not OE.
MIL stays on, showing PO135 error.
A complete CO test shows no running issues and that everything is working perfectly in that department.
I've cancelled out the fault with the OBD tester at leat six times, also disconnected the battery twice for 20 minutes and discharged the power by switching on headlights during that period.
MIL stays on, showing PO135 error.
Any 'useful' help would be appreciated.
Vehicle is an 02 Mitsi Space Star, 1.6 gasoline fuelled
NB: My best guess is that the computer doesn't like the non standard front lambda sensor, but for some reason hasn't complained about the rear one yet.

Hello!
I've an 03 1.6 Space Star and the Engine Management Light has come on after a fill at a petrol station that will remain nameless! Is there any way to find out why it's come on, without going to a dealer? The car has also recently clocked over 18000: does the warning light come on if it expects a service (outside the 3 year limit, so I assume it would cost quite a bit to get a service)? Can I connect an OBD II interface or something like it to find out why it's complaining? I'd rather spend a little more on a standard interface than pay someone to find out!
Cheers for any info!

I have a 2004 Space Star Diesel.
The Indicator (both left and right) is not automatically cancelling. I'm guessing it's a mechanical issue somewhere under the steering wheel.
Has anyone come across this before? Is it an easy fix?
