When I bought my FTO last year the passenger sill had some rusting at the back.
I would like to get this fixed/replaced (see attached picture)

Has anyone had this done themselves?
How much did it cost and does anyone know of a place in Scotland (preferably Edinburgh) that I could get this work done?

I HAVE A 1994 FTO 2.0 V6 TIPTRONIC GR

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR WONT START OR TICK OVER FROM COLD AND CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINS TO START ITS NOT THE STEEPER MOTOR THAT CONTROLS THE COLD IDLE THE CAR WONT START AT ALL , ITS FINE ONCE ITS STARTED AND WARM. THE ONLY WAY I CAN START THE CAR QUICK IS TO LEAVE THE BATTERY OFF OVER NIGHT WHICH MUST BE RE-SETTING THE ECU AND CLEARING THE FAULT...

My 1995 manual FTO wont start, I can clutch start it, but when i turn the key there is no clicking or cranking sound from the engine, the lights work fine, I got a jump start (well tried) and it still would not start even though the battery level showed 14 volts!

I just bought a bargain, manual MIVEC FTO, the last owner had a new engine fitted but i never ran right, After soe light investigation i found two loose spark plugs at the front.

i started my 95 fto gpx up on sunday morning only to turn it off straight away
as i was making a very bad clunking noise coming from the rear top of the motor.

Hi all, hoping i can get some answers.

My 1995 fto gpx has decided that it wants to stay in 3rd gear.

I started the car and the tiptronic gearbox switched straight to 3rd gear with the neutral light flashing.

If i put it into drive the box clonks in and then drives fine. Put it in reverse and it does the same.

Ive tried a few tricks offered by others...

theres is probably a simple solution to this but let me explain.

For example, just say im coming to a turn in third gear, i slow down, take the bend then when i go to accelerate out of the bend i hear a "scratching sandpaper" noise kind of like sch-sch-sch-sch for maybe a second and then it goes. This happens in every gear only when i go down to low revs...

Since my car was serviced i have had starting problems car fires up but engine dies it seems there is no choke i have replaced stepper motor temp sensor and bit the bullet took it to my local main dealer who said was wax stat valve ran fine for few days now playing up again?
when car is warm runs fine no problems and starts fine but when left over night won't run needs to keep foot on...

how ya doin people? the problem i have is only very recently for no reason whatsoever my fto won't idle when cold and will only stay on if some revs are applied on the accelerator, i have had the air screw adjusted but to no avail, has anyone any idea why this has suddenly started happening and how i can rectify this irritating problem?

1. the car has done 64000 mls but unknown whether the timing belt has been done, is the engine set up on the fto non-interference, i.e what would happen if the belt failed?
2. how do you rate the car for general reliabilty?
3. how easy/expensive is it to get parts?

I've had my FTO two years but the revcounter's never worked. I was told by one of the dealer garages that it was likely to be a problem with the ECU and we all know how expensive they are to replace! Is it possible to bypass the ECU to get the revcounter working again? Is this possible? Any ideas?

Hi I recently bought an FTo GR and when I put the car in tiptronic the light around the N flashes and I can only get 2 and 3, also I cannot move between tiptronic and normal once in tiptronic unless I turn the engine off. I flattened the battery(dumb blonde I know!!!) and I think it must have reset something because after that I could use the tiptronic no problem for about a week. ...

My FTO GPX recently hit the 100,000 km mark and I thought I'd get the spark plugs changed and I also decided to get the leads changed. Ever since changing the spark plugs and leads, one of the spark plugs isn't firing up and hence when you drive, the car is loosing power and therefore its undrivable.

We tested the cylinder compression, tried putting the old plugs and leads on...

Hi All, can any of you help?
My fto sounds tappety, but only intermitantly. Does anyone know the MIVEC valve clearance settings. Another cause could be a stuck oil presure regulator valve, does this model have such a thing?
