Hello all.
the original problem still persists + more, now the oil level warning light is also on,
i've changed the oil & filter, changed the fuel filter but the dash still looks like blackpool eluminations when driving (or not as in my case). i spoke to a gent at my local dealership who insisted the problem was being caused by either the alternator or battery. so being as i'm having no starting problems i discounted the battery, had the alternator checked by a alternator specialist first on the vehicle with a reported output of 15.8 volts, then after a 2hour struggle checked off the vehicle to be told it's perfect as it this morning bench tested @ max output of 14.4 volts which matches the spec for that model of alternator. another 2 hours + and it's refitted, you guessed it, nothing's changed. so now i borrowed the battery off my mates van, his is the same model as mine, this battery was new six weeks ago, i can deffinately say no it's not the battery either & for some reason i'm still getting a reading across the battery terminals with the engine running of 15.8 volts, even with the headlights and heater on full blast. Please has anyone got the answer i'd like to here? so i can get my customer's off my back & return to working for a living instead of laying on my back under a van!

Bought another 84 4x4 for parts (bargain, and it has great spares) however the owner told me the 4x4 function dosent work.. Ive stuffed around with it a bit.. I cant get it to work either, It's fully engaged ok, everything looks fine... but no 4x4... now where should i start? Would it be the hubs? or maybe a transfer case? I have the spares to replace both... but dont want to waste my time.. anyone got any ideas!? Thanks!

Hi-
I'm a total new guy, but am looking to purchase an 84 L300 4wd.
It is 1.8L petrol.
Yeah I have checked the other posts but was hoping for something more specific- does anyone have experience with this type van?
Specifically what have you found the fuel consumption to be like??
It;s either this or a hiace for me... so any help would be much appreciated
Thanks-

Guy's... Im fitting the 2.6ltr Astron into my 4x4 L300 (1984).. what flywheel and clutch will i need to run? The L300's or the astrons?
The reason i asked... is i bought a Sigma 2.6 clutch kit today... and it dosent fit my flywheel... so im assumed the flywheel was from a L300.. however a mates old L300 clutch dosent fit either... what have i done wrong? Ive probally just received the wrong clutch... anyway can i tell what clutch i need by looking at the flywheel???

RIght, so as many of you may know I bought this van and everything pretty much that COULD go wrong HAS gone wrong.
So, instead of bothering with it all, i've just taken the thing to the mechanic (after the starter motor also died) and said. "Fix it."
Haha, so, i'm getting an engine recon, starter motor overhaul, carby overhaul, radiator overhaul, and in a couple of weeks will have a van that actually works as it bloody well should!
I'll let you know how it goes and let you all see prices for it all as well, as that seems to be something that I couldn't find anywhere.

After removing the disconecting the drive shaft from the rear differential coupling I see a large diameter (30mm) bolt. I tried to remove the bolt with no results. I am in Siberia Russia and I need to get the rear differential seal changed out. Is there a secret to removing this bolt or do I just need an impact wrench?

Hi all you experts,
I'm another new member and I have been learning a lot just reading all the posts on the many and varied topics and I have a question.
I own a 1984 L300 4WD and I'd like some clarification of what the vehicle identificatin label says. The details are as follows:
Model - 1035GWFR8
Engine - 4G62
Trans / axle - KM147 4875
Color.trim - S70
Opt - 70N000
I hope that these are in their right places.
Thank you.

Hi, I am new to this site and just wanted to ask a question about my recently purchased l300 which is a 1982 model with a 2.6 sigma engine in it.
I would like to know if there is a direct replacement fuel tank available which is larger than the 50 or so litre tank that I already have. Preferably from a wreckers.
It's either that or carry 4 or 5 jerry cans which take up too much space.
I will be driving round Oz so the more cheap fuel I can fit in, the better.
Many thanks in advance.

I have a friend who has 1989 2l auto L300 Van. Do any of you gurus know if say an 1800 Galant engine & transmission will go in without big modifications, or anything else for that matter. My friend has no workshop, so whatever is done will be done the old-fashioned hard way, we welcome any advice on this matter, thanks, Mike Broadbent. Auckland, New Zealand.

Hi All
My Manual transmission in my 1985 L300 express (2WD with the 4G32) is starting to go on me. I am looking to remove the KM131 and replace it with a KM135. Has anyone tried this and is it a simple bolt in job?
If not, what 5 speed would be easiest to bolt in ?
Talk to you soon!

I've been getting differing reports from people, some saying that its bad to use 4wd mode on normal road, and it should _only_ be used offroad on loose surfaces.
Is this true? And if that is the case, then does that mean that for example using 4wd mode to go up a ski mountain (still normal road, possible covered in snow and ice along with normal asphalt) is bad?
There was someone here who explained it a bit as well but I cant find the post now. I bought the van for travelling and for snowboarding for this season as the roads quite often wont allow you up unless you have a 4wd, however if I cant use it in 4wd mode on the roads anyway, then it seems it was a waste of money from that point of view.
Cheers,
Caleb

I've just bought a new set of spark plugs for the family 1984 1.6L (petrol) L300 based camper-van, but I can't find how large the spark plug gap should be (I do still have the original owner's documentation, but I can't find the information in there).
Can anyone tell me what the plugs should be set to?
Also, I like to know what torque settings to use when tightening everything up, so if anyone has information regarding torque settings, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks.

Hi guys,
A friend has an early 1996 petrol L300 express, apparently these are renouned for overheating. He has checked hoses, radiator, etc with no luck. Can anybody suggest reasons for this model overheating, and where exactly is the thermostat located in these engines. Apparently they came out with 2 different engines in the petrol model.

Hi everyone, I am the proud owner of a great 1985 L300 4WD.
I have made a few modifications, but the next one I'm considering is increasing the wheel size from 14" to 15".
There are a few reasons for this, none of them particularly good, but that's life

Has anyone done this?
I think that visually the 14" wheels look a bit small, and the greater range of 15" tyres is appealing. Also I suspect they would make the van a bit less 'bouncy' on the road and possibly even improve highway speed and economy.
I don't want to cut the body so I realise I can't go too large as the rear of the front wheel arch is fairly close to the tyre (my van doesn't sit especially high, which I like).
Also, does anyone have the good oil on wheel fitment? I know they are the same stud pattern as Toyota / Nissan etc, but I have heard that the offset is different. Can I use any Pajero wheel, or just certain years / models? Are they the same as the Triton Ute rims?
Cheers,
Neil

Hi All,
Just brought my delica on Saturday, I have just tried to put it in to 4 wheel drive low range. The problem I have is when I turn to a sharp corner I get a crunching sound and the back wheels spin as I turn.
I suspect it could be one of the following but any input would be greatly appreciated:
Centre Lock Diff.
Transfer Case(If it has one)
No oil (not sure yet how to check)
Never been used in 4WD not sure if you would have much oppertunity in Japan for that

.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.
Kind Regards
Corey (corwiz)

Hi all.
I have a problem which has suddenly developed starting the van from cold. The colder it gets, the harder it is to start.
This is not a glow plug problem as these were replaced last year.
Symptoms are that the starter whines but does not engage. After a few tries, it engages and the engine starts fine. When the engine is hot there's no problem.
My garage seem to think it may be the injector pump, but surely the engine wouldn't start and run fine if that were the problem?
I'm not sure whether this is a pre-engaged starter or one of the old type where a pinion flies along a shaft. If it's pre-engaged, could it just be some gunk in the gearing that's causing this. Obviously when the engine is hot the gunk would be more liquid?
All speculation gratefully received.
Alex

Hey all (again),
I seem to be asking at least twice as many questions as anyone else, so sorry for the constant nagging.. its just i'm loving this van and want to get the most out of it and here seems to be the only real place I can ask!
My Van as a lift kit on it, just wondering what kind of depth water I can be looking at as being safe to drive through?
