OUTLANDER
Outlander is an all-new mid-size SUV built off a newly developed global platform. With the option of both five and seven seats, the Japanese domestic Outlander debuts a brand new powertrain and borrows heavily from technology nurtured in the Lancer Evolution series to deliver hard-hitting on-road performance that raises the bar for SUVs.
Powertrain
The new 2.4-litre 16-valve DOHC engine uses an aluminium cylinder block and MIVEC variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves. On Outlander, the power unit is mated to a new Sports Mode 6-speed CVT that uses steering column-mounted paddle shifters for smooth acceleration and efficient fuel consumption. This new petrol engine is expected to appear in a number of new models across the Mitsubishi product range in the near future.
All Wheel Control (AWC)
The aim with Outlander was to develop a new-age SUV that delivers top-level all-surface cruising performance. To do this Active Stability Control (ASC) technology has been added to Mitsubishi's proven electronically controlled 4WD system to fully integrate control of engine output as well as of torque and braking force at each wheel. A new platform increases body and chassis stiffness, an aluminium roof panel lowers the centre of gravity and mono-tube shock absorbers all contribute to class-topping levels of handling and stability.
Outlander specifications: Length 4640mm Width 1800mm Height 1680mm Wheelbase 2670mm Track F/R 1540/1540mm Engine 4B12-type in-line 4-cyl DOHC MIVEC Max output 170PS Max torque 226Nm Transmission INVECS III Sports Mode-6 speed CVT.

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.
I'd like to be able to provide reliability information on the Outlander, but haven't started collecting data on any model year yet because too few owners are signed up to participate.
Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
Details:
Vehicle reliability researchComments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

I was checking if any members had any suggetions for what is a good tire for my vessel. I have the stock tires from Yokahama. They are starting to wear down at around 21000 miles. I do mostly highway city driving. I have the front wheel drive type outlander with 16 inch wheels. I can't really say the Yokahamas are a poor quailty. I am open to just getting them again. But are they better options? I have heard the Bridgstone versions are loud and wear down fast. Any opinoins apprecated.

EDIT: it's
NOT a recall, but a technical service bulletin (see posts #2 and #3).

A few weeks ago on my 2010 Outlander ES, my A/C switch was stuck on windshield, no matter where the dial was (face, etc.). Brought it in to the dealer and Mitsubishi had a technical service bulletin on that part (the "lever"). Fixed it free of charge; my wait was 2 hours, but it was a busy day.
A heads up if you have the same issue!

Right, I'm trying to add the MZ360136EX MP3 AUX cable to my 2010 Outlander ES' stock radio (no nav, no Rockford Fosgate, 1 CD). If I hold down the CD button for 2 seconds, "AUX" pops up on my radio. Some people say it is compatible, some say it's not:
The installation manual says the part is for a 2007 Outlander (but presumably the 2010 wasn't released) and my dealer across town says one source says it is compatible with the 2010 and another source says only 2007-2009. He thinks maybe the Bluetooth module's wiring is really the AUX I see on my screen (I don't have Bluetooth, though).
On the other hand,
this Mitsubishi dealer on Amazon says it's compatible with the 2007-2012 (!) Outlander's and
this website shows a 2nd generation Outlander with the FUSE hookup (so only 2010 and newer)
and an AUX in/out/ground (interestingly, placed exactly the where it states in the MZ360136EX's manual).
Anybody know? Does the 2010 Outlander's stock audio have stereo wiring to take the MZ360136EX? Thanks in advance!

I think I'm either really close to getting my MP3 player hooked up...or right back at square 1, haha.

Now a few months since installing the H&R spring set on my '07 Outlander. I cannot say enough about how much improvement they have made to every facet of driving. Even around town they are smother. That annoying tip in as you change lanes or go into a corner is GONE. These should be the original equipment and probably are on the US GT model - that does not make its way up here. No matter what the dealer tells you the the 2011/12 are the same spring rates as the 07 in Canada. Why I do not know. Worth every penny to order and install the H&R's even with the stock sway bars.

Hi all,
I have an 07 Outlander LS with the stock stereo system. I've recently noticed that while playing a cd, I am not hearing as much sound from the front on the driver's side. I turned the balance to the left and noticed the sound is scratchy coming from the left tweeter. Now, when I switch back to radio, it seems more balanced....not 100%, but still better than when playing a CD. I tried cleaning the CD player lense, but that has made no difference.
I'm thinking maybe the front left tweeter is blown. Either that or there is a problem with the CD player itself.
Anyone else have this problem? What size tweeters are they? I was looking at aftermarket replacement speakers, but I'm not sure if they are 1" and what will fit in/behind the trim panel...
These would definitely be nice...
Rockford Fosgate TweetersThanks for any ideas/help!

It's time for a trans service on my 2010 outlander with the CVT transmission. I called down to my local dealer, and the parts guy couldn't tell me what fluid to use, only they didn't make the CVT J1 fluid anymore. What do they recommend now?

Hi guys I'm finding it hard to get information for my outlander
It's a 2005 Outlander G
Japaneese import.
It has the Rockford Nav/MMCS mp3/wma/dvd system wich I would like to know if I can get iPhone/iPod interface to it?
Is the hard drive upgradable to a larger?
How do you erase the music stored in the music server?one by one or all
What do I need to do to be able to watch DVDs in motion?
What is the 3.5mm jack under the faceplate for?when a jack plug is inserted the open close function don't work.

And what is these 3items ??

The next parts are these 3 plugs of wich 2 are not used

With these abbreviations on the plastic cover

If rear fogs then I have the logo on my speedo cluster too and the rear light covers
And the speedo cluster, is there anyone who knows who or where I can get custom made up? I want to change the red for a new color and possibly one that has mph and kph

And lastly what else is contained within this pc board for the hazard light switch?

Our power inverter is for 100w or 100v in NZ we work with 240v can I simply change my inverter or not?
I really appreciate all the help I can get
Thanx guys

I have a 2010 Outlander, and the fuel door cable periodically comes loose from the lever on the floorboard, and you can't open the fuel door until you take the lever apart and put the little cable end back in the latch. Is there a fix for this? I can't tell if the cable has too much slack in it, or what. It's done this periodically since it was new.
- Thanks

What position does the lock pin (pin with rubber bushing on end) go in, top or bottom. When I took mine apart I had 2 lock pins on pass and 2 guide pins on driver, probably from PO brake job.

I bought an Outlander GT 2011 and I expect to import it to Europe where I need to do some adjustments before gaining a number plate and formal registration.
It appears that there are 2-ways to implement a rear fog light in an Outlander: (1)-running a wire under the car floor carpet and (2)-using a spare wire from the ETACS-ECU, take the rear bumper off and install some wires that join the plastic rear lamps where the side marker lights reside.
I have read some articles and there are wireless fobs that can light, for example, driving lights, tail lights, towing lights, and spare brake lights or indicator just with the click of a wireless fog located near the driver area.
I wonder if some members may know of this approach to solve the requirement of a rear fog light or of some car electronic firms that may be interested in implementing this wireless technology to provide a kit and install the rear fog light without using the conventional ways, i.e. (1) and (2) named above.
Many thanks for your contributions.

I have called 2 dealers and both state that 60k is the change time for timing belt on 07 V6. The manual says 105k except for 4b1 engine. When I told them what the manual said one dealer told me that Mitsubishi changed their recommendations due to it being and interference engine and the other dealer told me that some engines have a chain (I know the new 4cl have a chain) and that's the 105k change. I think I am calling BS for both dealers and from what I have read I am good to 105k. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I recently drove across Canada from Victoria to Newfoundland. The suspension on my '07 Outlander at times, sounds like a it is grinding itself to death. Dealers on the east coast all know about this malady and without hesitation wanted (if i could spend 2 days in town) to replace the "bushings' - which ones I do not know. One dealer reported every '07 sold by that dealership has had the work done so now it is a matter of form.
In BC however dealers must have the owner jump through the hoop or a drive test to prove the noise exists. As this comes and goes with the wet weather this can be one very annoying and frustrating job.
Why this is not a soft recall by now is a frustration that Mitsubishi Canada uses to its advantage refusing to acknowledge it as such. The warranty on these cars maybe long but in my experience getting any work done under it is like passing an interview with the warranty police rather than a dealership employee. Maybe its just Victoria Mitsubishi's lack of spinal fluid to tell Misubishi Canada who is in charge.
Never the less based on this and other lame responses to claims - I cannot wait to get rid of this vehicle and get back into another Audi. When or if that will happen is up in the air ..

Anyone else finding this frustration..?

I'm I correct in assuming that the regular trans service for the CVT in this vehicle is just a drain and refill? If so, are there any surprises in store that I should be aware of?

OK, with the help of SRSONE's input, I did a drain and refill on my 2010 Outlander CVT transmission. It was incredibly easy. Although under regular service, it doesn't call to ever change fluid, my local dealers tell me that because of the heat down here in the south, coupled with stop and go driving, you should follow the severe service schedule on the CVT transmission. Although I went a full 47k miles before the change, my old fluid was clear, and was only slightly darker than the new fluid. So, it wasn't bad. When you go to the dealer to buy fluid, they will tell you that you will need about a can and a half of the four liter cans of DiaQueen CVTF-J1 fluid. This is about 150 bucks worth of fluid. They must be talking about doing a flush, because I only used just a few ounces short of one can. Oh yeah. To do this like I did, it will take several hours to drain. So, you might want to make this an overnight project. Anyway, here's what I did:
1) Pull the car up on a flat level surface. I was lucky enough to have a slab at my disposal.
2) I don't know what size metric socket the drain plug is, but a six point 3/4 fits nicely. Unscrew the drain plug and start draining fluid. Let it drain for several hours because just when mine slowed down to a slow drip, it would suddenly start running again. Let it drain until it completely stops dripping.
3) After the old fluid stops coming out, put the drain plug back in, but be careful not to over tighten it and strip it. Remember the amount of effort it took to remove it, and you will be OK. If someone has the CORRECT torque specs, they may want to post it to this thread.
4) Refill new fluid down the dipstick tube. Use the correct funnel with a long stem. I started my refill by putting in four quarts of fresh fluid, because I measured how much came out. It was a good starting point for me, because when I started the engine and ran it through the gears stopping in PARK, it showed to be at the bottom of the COLD mark on the dipstick. After a few more rounds of adding, running through the gears, and measuring, I eventually added 4 more ounces for a total of 132 ounces, and the dipstick shows to be dead on the top HOT mark on the dipstick with the engine hot. Just perfect.
So, I now have an extra 4-liter can of trans fluid, but that's OK. I'll do this again in about 30k or 40k miles. Once again, thanks to SRSONE for their input.

I recently bought the car and it came with 2 original fastkeys which have emergency keys in them. I tried the emergency key and the alarm went off after I opened the door. The manual said the emergency keys are or need to be "registered" to the fast key to work. Is there a way to register them without taking to the dealer? Is "registering" the same as reprogramming the fastkey?
Thank you.

Just recieved the new 2011 Outlander Sport in Cool Silver, just like the wifes 2009 Lancer Sport.
The story:
Took my wifes Lancer for an oil change, there she was all alone in the lot with Lancers waiting to be picked up.
Ok, enough with the funny lines.
This vehicle is outstanding, it has the MPH that matches my Fusion that I traded-25-31.
It sits up higher on 18" alloys, the stereo is not the high end Punch but meet the sound that my Fusion had.
It has the paddle shiters, LINK system, TCS, and sdjustable HID headlamps, is fun with the local LEO's, they think its highbeams.
I love the space, front and back. My son and I are 6' plus and my wife and daughter are 5'8", not built for the AVEO.
This was an all day ordeal to get all I wanted. I did not get the Sight Sound type package, I did not need.
The little things that are up from the 09, not only do you have the RCA and power plug you also have the addition of the USB port, works great with iPod, clear and clean.
Now we are a two Mitsu family. I would add pics but yet to fig that out.

So I have a 2009 Mitsubishi outlander SE and I currently have 55W HID Kit from Mod-Express and managed to cut off the DRLs with a special harness thanks to Jrox on ebay.
Now Im moving onto the Foglights and I want to throw in HIDs but for some reason its not working!
I have a standard Relay harness and the installation instructions I used were these:
Relay Installation Guide
Now I troubleshooted and checked my ballasts and bulbs and they all work.
How can you check if a relay harness is in working order??
Am I installing something wrong?
Maybe a polarity issue? (although I checked and tried that)
I just feel as if Im doing something wrong here.
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks to all in advance !

HI there this is a thread which is related to my previous topic "new tyres" i have finally got to the bottom of the problem of the ASC warning . took it to the dealer and they plugged it it , it is the abs modulator ,apparently quit a few have gone faulty i nearly fainted when he told me the price , 1500 GB pounds!!!! yes and it's just out of warranty .I have struck a deal with them . So beware because it looks like it could be a common problem, the mechanic said they have had a few with this problem ,ok if it's in warranty but if it's not!..

I have a 2010 Outlande XLS that, for the first few months, I loved.
At 14,000km, I heard a knocking/creaking at the rear right brake. I took the car in to the dealership on two separate occasions. Both times the service manager said there was rust on the rotors and all the vehicle needed was a brake service. Within days of both brake services the noise came back. I brought the car in for a 3rd visit, during which a mechanic realized that the rotors at the rear were warped, and they were replaced under warranty.
The car performed well for the next little while. However, at 37,000km, the sound came back worse than ever. I took the vehicle in to the dealership again and took the shop manager for a road test. He heard the sound and acknowledged that it was definitely not normal. I pleaded with him not to tell me that the problem was rust, reminding him that a brake service did nothing the last time this happened.
Sure enough, I received a call the next day saying that the problem was caused by rust and that I would have to get a brake service done ($160 for the rear, $160 for the front).
I went in to speak with the service manager because, in my experience, having to get brakes serviced to keep noise away, twice in under 40,000km, is unacceptable. The service manager reiterated that the problem was rust and that it would not be covered under warranty.
I asked him if all the rotors were rusted, and he said yes. I asked him to explain to me why only the rear right was making noise; he couldn't. I asked if this was a common problem with Mitsubishi's, and he said no. Despite this, he said that no work to fix the noise would be covered under warranty.
NEXT, I called Mistubishi Canada. They were very unhelpful - all they did was call the dealer, ask for the service manager's opinion, and reiterate this to me. The customer service rep told me this was all she could do in the way of "investigating" the problem.
I had a Honda Civic prior to this vehicle, and didn't have to do anything to the brakes until 84,000km.
In 38,000km I have had the following problems:
- Brake problems (above)
- Bluetooth module stopped working (replaced under warranty)
- Creaky driver's seat (fixed 3 times, problem doesn't go away)
- Paint chipping all over the front hood (never had a problem with this with any other vehicle I have owned).
I am extremely dissatisfied with Mitsubishi's customer service and quality. Have anyone else had any similar problems?

Hi, I'm going to be towing a trailer close to max towing capacity with my 2010 Outlander and will need brakes. I went to my RV dealer to have a Prodigy P3 brake controller installed, and was told that they won't install the controller in the Outlander because it could cause the brake module on the Outlander to fail. I'm told it's because of the LED tail lights. Has anyone installed a brake controller on a 2010 Outlander?
My other option is to use a RF model Brake Controller.

I currently have 225/55/18 and they have ordered 255/55/18 would be a straight forward swap or would it required any other changes needing to be made the car
would this affect the stearing, handling, Brakes, suspension......etc
The tyre they have ordered is a Falken stz01 255/55/18

The lack of side rail roof rack in the 2010 Outlander GT in the USA prevents to install a rack kit crossbar and a roof box for loading camping gear. Making some enquires I was told by the dealer that the side rail that comes with the 2010 Outlander XLS cannot be set up on the roof of a GT which is a big disappointment indeed. I was prepared to order the side rail roof rack (right/left) from a XLS (USA) and have it installed on the roof of a GT. I wonder if some members can throw some light on this problem. The dealer told me that only a custom aftermarket kit can be adjusted onto the floor of the GT at a price of $700. Does anyone have any more information on this?
The Outlander GT has that rubber (inserts) line on the car’s roof that runs parallel on both sides? The side rail roof rack on the XLS has these rubber lines and it is there where the side rails are fitted. Reading the Maintenance CD for the Outlander with side rail roof rack in the Outlander the rubber gives way (equidistant little spaces) where bolts can be screwed and therefore the side rail roof can be fitted. The difference between the 2010 Outlander XLS and GT is that the GT doesn't have side rail roof rack which is a big disapointment. I think Australian 2010 Outlanders don't have this problem. Could some one give some comments in the feasibility of installing a XLS side rail roof rack in the roof a GT Outlander?

I have planned to built-in a park distance control ( PDC ) in the front of the Outlander. Does any one have some experience? I have read that the speedpulse is used for this function? I don't know how...
Maybe some advice to built in a 2 or 4 sensor kit? And the place to drill?
My car is a 2008 Outlander CVT.

Over the past few years Mitsubishi's presence in the North American marketplace has been shrinking, due mostly to outdated models that no longer appeal to consumers in a rapidly changing marketplace. That being said, we feel the need to introduce this latest model from the Japanese automaker. In case you're not familiar with it, it's the 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, a vehicle that's designed to help the company regain marketshare by launching into the hot compact crossover segment dominated by vehicles like the RAV4, CR-V, Escape and Equinox.
Maybe you've heard of the Outlander Sport before? North of the border it's called the RVR, while down under (Australia) it's called the ASX. Why so many different names for the same vehicle, making for some difficult branding, not to mention product confusion among consumers with Mitsubishi already selling a model called the Outlander? We haven't got a clue. But after spending a week with one, we can tell you what it's like to live with and if it's any good to drive.

Anyone know where i can get some 16" steel rims here in the UK for my 2008 Outlander to use as a winter set. Mitsubishi dealer quoted me £125 each for them, I said I'd rather get some alloys for at that price, he agreed!
Only place I've found some is as a package deal at www.mytyres.co.uk, but they either have none in stock or don't have the tyres i want fitted to the rims. Looked on Ebay but no one has any, so if anyone knows where i can get a set can you let me know.

When I dial a number that begins with 045 it adds a 1 between the 0 and the 4, also when a dial 5521087947 for example it changes the 1 for an 8. I already done the voice training, and tried another person dialing the same number. I have the same problem trying to add the number into the phonebook. Does anyone know if there's a software update?

Guys,
I wanna asked a question if anyone have already or know how to install the OEM Mitsubishi Remote Start for 2010 Outlander SE?
What i really want to find out is if it will require a BYPASS MODULE same as the aftermarket from DEI or DIRECTED (i.e. VIPER, AUTOMATE etc.) leaving a key or fast-key inside the module for remote start to take place, because if it require then there's no point of buying an OEM since aftermarket have lots of features compared to OEM REMOTE START.
THank you!

I own an 2009 Oulander LS and the shift between the first and second gears going forward is rough at times, and when stopping the transmission does not downshift smoothly from 2nd to first.
The only way I can prevent this from happening is to let the car warm up for about 10minutes... but the problem is, that this is the case in the middle of summer when temperatures are very hot and the car should not need that much warming up.
RPM always ranges in the 1500rpm during warm up and is not quick to drop, even in summer.
I've tried to explain this to the dealer but he's told me that the CVT technology combined with the computer training needs to adjust to my driving habits... I'ts been a year now and my car is a very slow learner???

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to program the remote for my Outlander 2009, when I press to open the door, I am only able to unlock the drive side door and all the others remain locked. I would like all doors to unlock when I press the unlock button.
Also when touching the drivers side door handle, it only unlocks the drivers door so I am wondering if this is also related to my keyless entry remote not being properly programmed?

I have a 2007 Outlander. As we all know the towing capacity is rated at 3500 lbs. The car doesn't seem to have any trouble pulling my trailer even when my trailer is pushing the 3500 lb limit. However, as the weight of the trailer increases and the tongue weight also increases the front end tends to easily lose traction while accelerating. Switching into AWD solves this problem. My question is, would it be damaging to the AWD system to leave it in AWD or should I continue to switch into 2WD for normal driving?

I just got a new Droid 2 and it is having trouble dumping the phonebook contents into the bluetooth contact list for hands free dial feature. I had no problem synching my Alias to the bluetooth, and I receive calls fine and everything while in the car. It just cuts off early during the contacts synch and says there was a problem with the synch. Anybody had this also happen yet?

I had a thought. If the Outlander uses the same JATCO CVT transmission as the Nissan Rogue, would it be logical to assume that it would also use the same fluid? If so, that would be abother source to get fluid. I was wondering about this since the closest Mitsubishi dealer is about 65 miles from me. However, I've gor two Nissan dealers within easy driving distance. I know it would be cheaper to order a case over the 'net. But, what if you just needed a quart?

My 2010 Outlander has a MD360935 oil filter. Doesn't that cross over to a Fram 7317 as an example? I'm inquiring because I'm due for the 3,000mi oil change, and I'm about a bazillion miles away form a Mitsubishi dealer. I'm no fan of Fram filters, but I'm looking for a place to start hunting cross reference application numbers. Thanks.
