OUTLANDER
Outlander is an all-new mid-size SUV built off a newly developed global platform. With the option of both five and seven seats, the Japanese domestic Outlander debuts a brand new powertrain and borrows heavily from technology nurtured in the Lancer Evolution series to deliver hard-hitting on-road performance that raises the bar for SUVs.
Powertrain
The new 2.4-litre 16-valve DOHC engine uses an aluminium cylinder block and MIVEC variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves. On Outlander, the power unit is mated to a new Sports Mode 6-speed CVT that uses steering column-mounted paddle shifters for smooth acceleration and efficient fuel consumption. This new petrol engine is expected to appear in a number of new models across the Mitsubishi product range in the near future.
All Wheel Control (AWC)
The aim with Outlander was to develop a new-age SUV that delivers top-level all-surface cruising performance. To do this Active Stability Control (ASC) technology has been added to Mitsubishi's proven electronically controlled 4WD system to fully integrate control of engine output as well as of torque and braking force at each wheel. A new platform increases body and chassis stiffness, an aluminium roof panel lowers the centre of gravity and mono-tube shock absorbers all contribute to class-topping levels of handling and stability.
Outlander specifications: Length 4640mm Width 1800mm Height 1680mm Wheelbase 2670mm Track F/R 1540/1540mm Engine 4B12-type in-line 4-cyl DOHC MIVEC Max output 170PS Max torque 226Nm Transmission INVECS III Sports Mode-6 speed CVT.

Hey Everyone, i have a interesting one for everyone. I have an 08 outlander v6 loaded with one very interesting feature missing... dome lights. All of the dome lights do not work at night, ONLY at night. During the day it's fine. I am not sure what is up. I am to lazy to bring it to mitsubishi so i hope someone here knows or has an idea what is up.

With Mitsubishi's Outlander crossover a relative behemoth in the compact crossover category, the company has announced plans to bring a smaller CUV to market. Like the Outlander, it will be based on the Lancers chassis and its design will follow along the lines of the Concet cX (above), that was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2007.
Power will come from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and the vehicle will be offered in both front and all-wheel drive.
In a rather confusing marketing move, the Japanese automaker has decided to keep the Outlander name for this new crossover, but add the title, "Sport."
The Outlander Sport will go on sale in Japan in February with sales starting in North American in the Fall of 2010. The car's official debut will happen the Geneva Auto Shwo this coming March.

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner.
I'd like to be able to provide reliability information on the Outlander, but haven't started collecting data on any model year yet because too few owners are signed up to participate.
Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
Details:

ok... just went on vacation last week... longest drive so far in the outlander since we owned it.. usually just half hour to hour drives locally
3 1/2 hour drive each way to disney in orlando...
enjoyed the drive
had no trouble passing ... cruise was a must (drive by wire can be very tiring on the foot)
plenty of room for the stroller and all our luggage
so all in all i am very happy so far with mitsu
even if its a wagon...family type car...

Hello everyone,
I searched on the internet to find a Mitsubishi forum because I feel it's best to find out first hand from owners of what they think of the cars. Reviews are nice and all but the expectations are high and wide for cars. As a casual driver among others, we know whether a car is worth the money or just falls flat.
So, I'm currently in the process of purchasing a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander LS 4WD model. Personally, of all the SUV's I find the Outlander to be one of the nicest looking which attracted me to it. Not only that but the warranty is excellent. I've never owned a Mitsubishi car before (Have had a Honda and Toyota) so this would be my first.
Basically, I want to know if the cars worth the price tag (Comes out to be around $33,000 canadian). I have driven it in a test run and I agree with the reviews that it's a little loud when you begin to speed up. However, other than that I found no faults in this car. It's stylish, has some good power and is roomy/comfortable.
What would you, as owners, say about it? Highly recommend? Well worth the buy? Will be happy/unhappy with this car? (Also, I love the Lancer model. Was really hoping to get that car but already own a Matrix and we need something alittle bigger. Shame, maybe in a few years!)
Thanks!

Ok I'm going kinda crazy with this. First thing the stock radio has a single cd for mp3 which I think is great. I really wanted an AUX port for my ipod or my other mp3 players. I really hate wasting cd-r's and the books I have on audio files are AA files that I'm really not wanting to convert to mp3. Got myself a radio ipod interface that works well if you remove the external antenna. however I still would like a way for my mp3 players to work with my stock radio. anyone have any ideas?
Mitsubishi has no information about the ipod interface and the AUX button does nothing because anything AUX has to be plugged into the useless harness on the stock radio where the additional 6 disk cd changer goes. BAH
I sat in the that RAV4 rental before I bought this car and loved the bypass located in the center arm rest. Too bad Mitsu didn't bother with it. Sigh... help?

Hi - having had an Outlander now for a couple of months I can honestly say that it's the best car that I have ever owned (2007 Mitsubishi Outlander Elegance - UK version)....So far. Apart from a small issue that's suddenly appeared due to some bad weather in the UK

.
The alarm on the outlander seems too sensitive and has been getting set off by the bad rain which we've been having over the past couple of days.
The alarm seems to be too sensitive and I was awoken this morning (with probably the rest of the street) at 05:15

by the car alarm going off because of the rain. It's not even as though we have had heavy winds which would rock the car, it's litterally just the rain that sets it off!!!....
I need some sleep

can anyone help out and advise if theres a way of changing the sensitivity of the alarm slightly.

Hi All
Have a Mitusbishi Outlander Elegance (2008) with 18" alloys and finding A/T tyres for 18" is a no go so will need to downsize to 16" alloys.
Was impressed with the General Grabber A/T 2's i used to have on my Shogun and want to put some on the Outlander as mixing snow with the factory fitted Bridgestone Duelers is not good when going down hill, which i found out earlier this year when we had a few inches of snow. Going up steep hills on ice was excellent in all fairness, and uphill on snow was ok, but damaged a rim due to traction loss using these tyres coming down a minor slope in fresh snow in first gear and making contact with a kerb when i overshot the junction. Do plenty of clay shooting so will be using these tyres for some journeys across fields and muddy tracks this winter. Plan to have these as a winter set and switch back to the 18" alloys in the summer months.
Basically i have been told by two companies in the UK that the 16" and 17" alloys won't fit due to calliper contact. Mitusbishi dealership wasn't much use when i asked about what they could come up with. Asked about the steel rims that go on the Equippe model and they quoted £111 + VAT each for one, which is a crazy price! I later spoke to a guy from Perfromance Alloys based in Northern Ireland last week and he said he had some 16" AEZ Tacana's which would do the job, but will have to double check that they have enough clearance from calliper. Have some General Grabber A/T 2's lined up at £68 each inc Delivery, so just waiting for some info on 16" alloys.
Has anyone done anything similar to this on their Outlander as any info would be much appreciated.

Back ones went on without any problems. Front ones look like they were designed for a different level of trim on the 2009 Outlander XLS? I tried several times but they just don't line up? The part numbers are correct. Was there some sort of change to the plastic "running board/fairing" that is on the ES or LS that is different from the XLS? Are Canadian vehicles different in some way?

Hi there,
I'll like to know how reliable is the meter on the 2008 Outlander when you set the screen to L/100Km. I've done 7.5 L/100Km on a 80Km/h road, which seems way under the maximum this car can do. In the city when the traffic is bad I've averaged 17L/100km. The car was suppose to be in between 8.5L/100Km and 10.4L/100Km. I want to know if this meter really messures the gas the car burns or it just estimates consupmtion based on the average speed and the time you have been driving?

I'm needing some all weather floor mats (preferably the rubber kind). I did a search and didn't find anything on this topic.
I was at my Mitsu dealer last week and noticed they make them but they are expensive ($132 + tax). I tried to look for places that sell them online but no luck.
I also am aware of weathertech brand which are also expensive ($100 + shipping).
And my only concern with the "universal fit" type are that they are not so "universal". The Outlander mat has a unique shape.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Steve

If I want to put steel rims on my winter tires. What are the specs for my 2008 4WD Outlander rims. I heard not all rims fit because of the space and radius of the screws of the tire. Anybody knows about this?
Also, I think my rims are 16", I also want to double check this. Somebody is selling me used rims but I want to be sure they fit.

Just finished changing over to red LEDS. Will post pictures this evening once it gets dark of how they look at night for the time being heres the DYI directions with photos that someone had asked for.
DYI Directions for Change over with Photos of Red LED lighting.
These directions cover the replacement of the interior lights as well as the replacement of the License plate lighting. For this project I am changing all lights over to LEDs using Red ones for the interior and Xenon Whites for the interior.
You will need a number of items to complete the process:
Small flat head screw driver
2 Bulbs for the License Plate Area size 2825/W5W/194/Wedge type
Quick Purchase:
Here price $9.99 for a pair
4 Bulbs for the Interior Area size 3022/31 mm/Festoon type
Quick Purchase:
here price $9.99 for a pair
The quick purchase links above are from where I purchased mine and they shipped immediately and I had my bulbs in less then 48 hours. This was also one of the cheaper locations I found compared to $14.99 per bulb at most spots.
FRONT SEAT AREAStep 1:
Using a small flate head screw drive gentle pop the covers off the lights. When you do this be careful not to bend the pins. If you do bend the clips then gentle bend the back into place. The ones in quest are the interior side one (closest to the sunroof controls).

Step 2:
TURN OFF THE LIGHT SO YOU DONT ZAP YOURSELF
Step 3:
Remove old bulbs put in new bulbs. Turn on the lights to ensure that they work before replacing the cover. If they don’t work more then likely you can resolve this by removing the bulbs and rotating them 180 degrees. Remember to face the LED bulbs down to allow for the most amount of light in the cabin.
Step 4:
Replace the covers, the interior side (closest to sunroof controls) goes in first.
Step 5:
Test the lights
BULB COMPARE
One Red LED and 1 Standard Bulb

One Red LED / 1 Xenon White LED

2 RED LED’s
SECOND ROW AND CARGO AREA LIGHTSStep 1:
Using a small flat head screw driver remove the cover using the slot show below:

Step 2:
Follow seam method used in front seat for bulb install
Step 3:
Replace cover and test. Cover should be replace with the edge furthest from the control being inserted first.
LICENSE PLATE BULB REPLACEMENTMake note in some states it is illegal to use colored bulbs on the exterior of the car. In Vermont for example the use of Red or Blue lights on the exterior of a car is illegal as these colors are reserved for Emergency Personal. Even if you have a light permit as a Emergency Responder they are only allowed to be used when in route to a scene. As a result you can not use full time colored lights in VT. Check local laws before adding colored lights on the exterior of your car.Step 1:
Remove the light housing from the frame. To do this push the light housing to the left and you rotate down from the right side. The housing should easily come out.

Step 2:
Remove the housing cover using a flat head screw driver.

Step 3:
Replace old bulb with new bulb.
Step 4:
TEST. If new bulb doesn’t work work remove bulb and rotate 180 degrees as your contacts are most likely reversed.
Step 5:
Replace cover and reinsert housing into frame. Left Side goes in first. Push to left and then insert right side housing will slide back into place.
License Plate Bulb compare:

Im also thinking that mounting some LEDs under the passenger side dash, in the glove box wired to the front dash light. Plus a set under the driver and co-pilot seat wired to the second row lighting will make for a nice addition to the lighting and allow for more lighting coverage. Plus it will look cool

Hello everyone,
Just a few months ago (3 to be precise) I installed custom made Classic Soft Trim leather seat skins in my '08 Outlander SE. The seat skins are black with perforated inserts and grey contract stitching.
After the warmer months arrived I have come to realize that I am not a big fan of leather as it gets HOT in the sun! So, I re-installed the OEM cloth/vinyl trimmed seat covers.
If anyone would like the CST leather seat covers for the cost of shipping/delivery I will pass them on for free - with one catch - you must have the black cloth/vinyl trimmed OEM seats (standard on the '08/'09 SE and '09 XLS) so we can trade the headrests. You see, since the factory headrest covers are glued to the headrest foam the covers had the be trimmed off and as such I cannot reused them. The headrests are now covered in the matching CST leather which does not quite match the OEM vinyl texture.
If interested please email me (noelacramosATgmail.com) and we can discuss further. I can also provide my phone number if you wish.
If somewhat local to the Boston, MA area I am willing to meet up to show the leather seats and do the exchange...will consider up to a couple hours of travel.
Regards!
Noel Ramos

So I've been having alignment problems since 10k miles. I brought it to the dealer, said it was normal. Brought it to a tire center and they said it was normal.
Turns out the left shock on the driver side was leaking fluid. No one noticed or didn't care to look except my mechanic.
I went to the dealer and had the shock and cam shaft sensor replaced under the diamond warranty. Everything was covered.
I never used the warranty for the 2002 Lancer OZ. I'm glad I had it now.
I don't even know how much each part is. Now I don't care.
Just wanted to share my experience with my outlander. Please check your car out by a third party. Dealers and Tire centers I no longer trust until I get that third opinion.

I have just had the MP3 connector fitted to my 2009 Outlander Elegance so that I can play my Ipod through the AUX input on the MMCS.
The part number for anyone interested is MZ313870 which you can find with a google search.
It won't work if you have the factory fitted DVD/Rear Seat Entertainment though.
It took the garage about 1 1/2 hours to fit as they had never done one before and cost about £120 including parts and fitting.
The sound is excellent.

Can anyone help with this probably very simple problem....
I recently bought a UK 2007 Outlander Elegance, I paired my phone and all works great. The problem is that each time I get into the car I have to manually connect the phone to the system and each time I turn off the ignition and restart ie at a petrol station I have to manually connect again.
From my understanding the phone and car should automatically connect when close together. Is this right?
If so, is it likely to be a problem wih my car or with my phone? I have checked all Bluetooth settings on my phone and I have authorised the car on the phone, should I go out and look for a new phone??
Any help would be appreciated - cheers

has anyone expericenced a flat battery within 2.5hrs in a 08, XLS? A few days ago went out for dinner, parked & armed the car, and walked away. After approx 2.5hrs came back to find out I couldn't gain entry with fastkey, tried the emergency key but the alarm kicked in (horn & headlights) for 10-15min. Alarm finally stopped and tried to start the car with emergency key but no luck - all the guages turned on even the MMCS & int lights but engine did not turn over. Anyway had to call mitsubishi roadside, they sent a tow truck who tried a boost for 10min - with no success. Had to tow the 6mth old XLS to the dealer. Dealer checked it out and said you might have left something on (which I doubt) and that the battery wasn't holding a charge in one of the cells. They looked after everything under warranty, but I can't imagine the cars battery can go dead in 2.5hrs, and would the MMCS or DVD on in acc mode stay on even if you leave & arm the car? Any thoughts?

I just got my Outlander 2008 LS and i just had a few questions to ask. First off what kind of oil should i use, manual recommeds 5w20 but i like 5w30. Does anyone have a remote starter on their Outlander, if so does if affect the FAST key operation and will it affect the warranty?
I read in the manual that their is transfer oil that needs to be changed. What and where is this oil located? Also is the transaxle oil the same as transmission oil? Thanx in advance for your help

As promised, Mistubishi pulled back the cover on the Outlander GT Prototype at the New York Auto Show, a concept car that will influence the next generation Outlander "compact" SUV.
Prior to the show, Mitsu teased us with blurry images of the new vehicle and now we can see more clearly what we saw then - an EVO-inspired front end.
The production model is expected to look quite close to this concept and will feature a more powerful 236hp 3.0-liter V6 engine. An Idle Neutral Logic system will work with the V6, shifting the transmission into Neutral when the vehicle comes to a stop to help preserve fuel. The car will also feature Mitsu's world-famous Super-All-Wheel-Control System.
Other highlights include a 710 watt audio system and a 40 gig hard drive with a navigation system.

Hi All,
*** My first post ! ****
I just bought an 2008 Outlander XLS yesterday (without Nav package). Should it get on Friday. It was a toss between it and the Rav4 but we liked how nicely equipped the outlander vs. the Rav4.
I have a question to ask;
I wanted to install these electronic rust proofing devices as soon as possible as I live in Toronto Area and witer salt is really bad. The dealer claims that I have to install them thru a Mitsubishi dealer otherwise it will void the warranty. Is this true? Can they do that ?
Also, the dealer wanted $1199 for that small device (includes installation). It sells for $199 at Canadian Tire down the road. Are they just trying to extort more money out of me or is it actually different?
Have a good day !

QUOTE
This unique vehicle, created by the Mitsubishi Research and Design of America (MRDA) team in Cypress, California started life as a 2007 Outlander, which is an all-new addition to Mitsubishi's line-up that goes on sale in November. The creative minds at MRDA sought to infuse the Evolander concept with performance elements and design cues inspired by Mitsubishi's omnipotent, race-ready, super-sedan, the Lancer Evolution. An exploratory concept, the Evolander represents the design and engineering possibilities of what could be an Outlander Ralliart production model in the future.
For the Evolander, the output of the Outlander's 3.0-liter V6 engine (normally rated at 220 hp) swells to 300 hp with the help of an ATI/Roadrace Engineering Procharger system that uses a centrifugal compressor to produce 6 psi of boost. The increased power is fed through a 6-speed automatic transmission that is actuated by the same magnesium-alloy paddle shifters that will be equipped on the next generation performance model. The Evolander puts power to pavement using Mitsubishi's newest electronically-controlled AWD system offering exceptional, rally-car like roadholding in an SUV. The list of Evolander's dynamic enhancements also includes a Roadrace Engineering/Muellerized coilover suspension system that enhances handling to help dice corners with precision and exceptional control. The Evolander rides on lightweight 20-inch OZ wheels wrapped in high performance Yokohama Advan ST performance rubber. Brembo's new 6-piston monobloc-style brakes squeeze massive cross-drilled front rotors, and a set of cross-drilled rear rotors were added to help bring the vehicle to a swift, safe sudden halt.
The Evolander's exterior design follows along an "urban performance" theme, and shares several characteristics with the Lancer Evolution sedan. The Evolander's fascia design mimics that of the Evolution vehicles with its cavernous cooling and brake duct intakes and an aggressively vented hood. The Lancer Evolution also lends its iconic, rally-inspired, box flares to the Evolander, increasing the width of the vehicle at the fenders by 28 mm. The Evolander also features a more aggressive aerodynamic treatment, with lowered side sills, fender vents, a rear diffuser and a Ralliart rear spoiler that add a "sporty urban" look to the SUV.
The Evolander's stylish interior fuses sporting elements of Evolution with the technology features found on Outlander. Recaro Sport form fitting, reclining racing seats cradle and support driver and passenger helping improve a driver's seating position and vehicle control during aggressive driving. The interior still maintains full use of the 2007 Outlander's new 30 GB hard-drive navigation system (with 1200 song music storage capability), as well as the rear DVD entertainment system, and the eardrum-rattling Rockford Fosgate 650 watt audio system.

Hello... New to the forum, and I'm checking out the 2008 Outlander. The truck is an XLS 2WD, with nav, towing package, sun/sound, luxury...
I'm looking at a lease deal, as well. 12k miles, and under 48 months.
Over on another "townhall" car forum, folks are claiming $1500 below invoice. That would place it at $26 to 26,5k roughly. Is this realistic?
Hoping to hear what kinds of experiences you all had. Thanks!

I just ordered the trailer hitch/wire harness for my 2007 XLS. I noticed that the spare tire is directly touching the back of the bumper.
Has anyone installed the hitch on there own.. am I going to have to remove the spare tire?

We've bought a 2007 Outlander ES. It was represented to us to have blue tooth function by which we could talk on our cell phone through the radio speakers.
We asked about it during our test drive and the salesman said he hadnt figured it out himself, but that this model had it. Now it appears that the ES is prewired for blue tooth, but it needs something added for it to be functional. The salesman has not told us this yet, he says he's still looking into it. Tomorrow(Monday) will be a week since the purchase. Anybody else have any knowledge of how this works?

I tried a search here, but couldn't find the right info. I know several of you post on another popular Mitsubishi board as well so you might know the answer or recall the long post about it (that site is apparently down or dead).
For those DIY'ers that installed the OEM wiring harness for the hitch, did you have to remove the lower body cladding (black) to get the harness plug wires in? I don't recall anyone mentioning that step in the process on the other board but it is detailed in the instructions. I can't seem to reach the spot under the bumper so i'm guessing it's a necessary step.
My issue is that I already installed my Mudguards so i really didn't want to have to take one off and ruin the 3M tape to install the harness. If i have to i will, but it seems dumb to have to do that.

OK so most of you are probably saying the technology is not that new but ...
My husband and I purchased the Outlander back in March after our car was totalled by a young man running a red. We were in a rush to get new wheels as we had no other way to get to work.
When the saleman was telling us about the FAST key, I thought it was very convient and loved the fact that I didn't have to dig into my purse before I could get in the car. Since it was so convient, I had one concern. What happens if I forget the key in a jacket or pant pocket ... and toss it in the laundry? Salesman couldn't answer me but did say the replacement was expensive (over $100 cad) and I left it at that.
After having the car for a couple days, I said to my husband that we need a FAST key for our house too!
Months fly by and boom, I did it! I left the key in a pair of pants and in the wash it went. I always check pockets before dumpting into the laundry but this time, it was in a leg pocket ... *sigh* ... Finally remembered about it half way through the wash. I thought to myself, I might as well leave it, damage has been done. Wash is done and I find the key at the bottom ... took it out and thought I should try it anyway ... I was floored, IT WORKED!! It survived the drowning! It wasn't very wet, no water dripping out (but maybe that's due to the spin cycle). I placed it on top of the dryer where it might dry out from the heat. It's been over two months and no malfunctions so far.
Mitsubishi, take a bow! I love the car even more than the first time I drove it ...

Hey all,
I was wondering about the ACS button on my 07 outlander. When i push the button, it doesnt seem to do anything! Do you think i need to bring it in for repair, or is this by design? Do the tires need to start slipping first before I can disable the ACS? Also, when i first start driving, I get a single clunking noise. Is this the bearing issue that I have been reading about?

Does anyone know if there is a super charger for the 08 Outlander XLS V6? Has anyone installed one on theirs? Websites and price/information on parts needed? What are the benefits and negatives about super-chargers?
