i have a 94 eagle summit with a 1.5 and a 5 spd. i changed the timing belt a couple months ago. about a couple weeks ago, i hear a chattering noise coming from the trans, i think. i can rev the engine freely without any noise, thus the reason i think it is the tranny. when it is over half throttle while driving down the road, i hear the chattering. i am not sure what it is.
anybody have any ideas or comments, please let me know.
thanks

I was getting a single click when I turned the key. I changed the starter but nothing.
Do these cars have an inertia switch? Where is it located? Any other Ideas? Could be the ignition switch but there seems to be a reaction to what I think is the starter clicking. 90 colt 1.5 Thanks

It seems like everyone in this area wants to take an Eclipse or Lancer engine and swap it into their mirage. Well if your asking for help go do a search first. Save yourself time. Then if you need help after that or other questions then post them. Sorry gets a little annoying.
You'll most likely have to find a JDM Evo engine anyways to do the swap to get what you want out of it. So thats going to be hard if you dont have $1500-$3000 for the engine alone. Sorry just thought id put that out there.

Ok... so I'm new to the Mitsubishi scene and would like to gear up our 2000 Mirage. Does anyone have any idea what motor I could swap into my 2000 Mirage to replace the current 1.8 SOHC. Be realistic. I'm not looking to make a track car. Having to make modifications isn't a problem, but the fewer the better. Thank you,

hey i was planning on doing an exhaust system on my mirage pretty soon but it seems that there really arent any full cat back systems. so, is it possible to use a universal cat back and muffler and still get increased performance? also, if that is possible what are the best ones that you guys recommend? im also not looking for a ricey sound on the muffler...Thanks!

Hi.....
Im using the Mobil 1 5w-50 on my 2000 Mirage DE, and the mechanic told that it will be good for 12k miles..
Now it has 5k miles and the color of the oil has turned very dark (dark brown) and the level of the oil has decresased to the minimum.
I would like to know what kind of oil would you recommend me for my ride (105k miles), because here in Chile this is not a common car and the places where you can get your oil changed dont have information about it.

I have an adjustable coilover for my 1998 mitsubishi mirage ready to be installed. I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and would happen to have any information or just some pictures that would help me learn how to install it or know of a website that I could get some instructions off of? Also it can drop it 3", should I drop it the entire 3" inches or less do you think? Would 3" be to much when I get my body kit on? I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks.

G'Day
I have an Australian Mitsu Colt 87 RD with a stock standard 4g32b...
Ran sweet when I frist got her a few months ago... but started to have idle
problems...
I have replaced the ballast resistor with a Echin 23 (1.2 ohms), replaced the
dizzy cap, the entire carby from a 87 colt RE, changed oil and oil filter, fuel filter,
air filter, water, and the entire instrument cluster...
The problem is when the engine is stone cold and I try to start it with out the
accelerator, it dies in around 2 seconds, the warmer it gets the longer it takes
to stall, if I use the accelerator to keep it going it takes 2-5 mins to warm up
enough to idle on it's own. Also it's seems to get flooded since when starting it,
it takes awhile to pickup to a normal pace...eg sluggish. I have had the problem
before with another colt so I notice the problem. However for some strange reason
chuncks of debris what look like large carbon deposits the kind that remain after
burning a log to charcoal the same large clumps, it also is accompanied by black
and white smoke.
My thinking leads me to fuel mixture, choke, or something is stuck in the exhaust.
Any input would be appreiated very much.
Cheers

Hi Guys,
The issue I have with my Mirage VIE saloon, is the Dip (low beam) headlights are shinning when switched on, but road visibility is almost non-existent. I tested the full/high-beam lamps and they work alright granting normal road visibility.
Bought this 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage VIE Saloon, from a local dealer. The salesman I dealt with was supposed to been off for a two week holiday, and has since resigned and disappeared. With no reply to my emails from either the salesman or car dealer, I barely managed to make an phone appointment with the dealer to show him the problem on last saturday.
On the car dealer's advise, I swapped the current headlights for brand new H4 60/55W Artic White bulbs. Problem of poor road visibility on Dip Headlights still exists. Took some digital photos of the before/after bulb change, and emailed the dealer the photos.
The car dealer had the cheek to tell me I won't be using Dip Headlights often as city street lights are sufficient and Full Beam headlights are what should be used on the motorways. Road safety in suburbans districts is where the Dip Headlights come into use, as last thing I want to do is turn a corner with my Full beam glaring into the approaching car/drivers' face.
Can anyone give me some advise on how to approach this issue with the dealer, as I am not technically strong when it comes to cars. Thanks in advance guys! Cheers!

I need the female plug that goes on the top of my distributor. It plugs into a six prong male attachment built into the top of the distributor. It is a long oval shaped female plug. I can't find a junk yard that has it, and dealers tell me it can't be ordered new. If you are parting out an Eagle, Mitsubishi, or Colt and have this part, I would be very interested in buying it from you. Thanks.

Okay, I have a question that's been bugging me since I got my car. Why the heck does my '93 Colt GL have a 1.8L Mirage engine? I went to buy a replacement air filter for it and when he brought me the one for the Colt I just stared, it wasn't even the right shape. I told him that wasn't the rigth one, then it dawned on me that a friend of mine had said her boyfriend called my car a Mirage the other day, so I told the guy to look up the Mirage's air filter and sure engough that was the right one.
Please, someone tell me why the engine is different!!!!

I have a 94 Mirage with no headlights. I have power to the relay and I can jump the relay and make the headlights work, but when I jump it they stay on whether the switch is on or off. I put a new relay in, but it did not fix the problem. any suggestions out there? Could it be a bad relay or a bad switch on the steering wheel pod?
Thanks

Hello fellow members. I'm in a big dilema if you may. I swapped the motor and now i can't get it to run right. Let me explain and maybe someone will know what the problem is.
OK i have a 93 Plymouth colt 1.5L coupe manual. I was driving one day and kind of was racing my friend on the highway and spun the bearings cause i forgot to check the oil and it ate oil about a quart every 2 weeks.
Well it stood around for over a year. I finally decided to fix it. Bought a hit 94 colt auto 4 door with a 1.8L motor in it, for 2 bills. Well i swapped the motors. Now its a 1.8L manual. I put in the 1.8 ecu and and switched the wires from the MAF to the AFM and from the IAT to the AFM i got the wiring from the library and checked and double checked them. All is correct. I start the car and it runs but very poorly. When i rev the motor and let go of the throttle it back fires. I can hear it out of the intake. I have drove it and i screams but doesn't pull and i can't get it over 35 to 40 mph. I have new wires, plugs and cap on there. I don't know what to do to get it running right. I hooked up the o2 sensor that was on the old motor but its not heated and the 1.8 had two of them. Could this be the/a problem. Also i just remembered the 1.8 had an EGR but i pulled that off and put on a block off plate. Do i need to put some kind of resister to the pins on the ecu? I want to get this thing running cause i've got money put in to it and kind of don't want it to go to waste. Especially with these gas prices. It would be a great daily driver if i could just get it to work right.
Please some one help me!
Thanks, Denis

yesterday afternoon my turn signal apparently decided it wanted to stay on the right turn signal an not turn off. A mechanic said that it is my turn signal switch. My brother does most of the repairs on my car but he is not sure if he will be able to do this repair.. He has done everything from wiring the system in my car, to changing the starter, to changing my brakes, changing the distributor cap and some other things.. Does anyone think they can help or should I send this to the dealer to get fixed.. I really don;t want to do that cause I am low on funds.. but if i have to i have to.. Any suggestions? Hi. First off, my name is Edward and I'm glad I found a forum that deals with just mitsubishi's. My question is about swapping out my 1.5L 4G-15 for a turbo charged 4G63. What year engine would fit perfect into my 97' Mirage Sedan? I would go for the 1.8L LS engine, but I want that extra power from the 4G63. I've seen some 94' Turbo CHarged 4G63's pulled out of some Eclipses and put for sale on ebay wnd was just wondering which year I should get, what mods to make to fit the engine if necessary, transmission, pretty much anything that you guys can tell me. Sorry if I sound like a Newbie, I kinda am, but I have to start from somewhere. Thanks for the help.

I have a wire that is attached to the driver's side guard near the engine mount and power steering reservoir of my 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage. I don't know where the other end is supposed to connect. I presume that it's an engine earth wire and should attach somewhere on the engine. It is a black wire with a yellow stripe. Can someone have a look at their engine and tell me what the wire connects to please.

A friend of mine has a 1997 Mirage and I need to check the brakes. The front brakes are disc and the rears are drum.
On other cars that I have worked on usually the drums have two threaded ports so that you can use bolts to back it off the rotor. Does anyone know what size and pitch this bolt is?
Also, are all of the bolts hex, or are there some torx or other special tools required to service the front and rear pads and shoes?

Hi All,
First post here, so I hope this is in the right place.
My Wife owns a Mitsubishi Colt GLxi - 1.6L SOHC 16v (UK car). It's about time that I got to know it better as it has become reluctant to start in the mornings. Car turns over, but fails to fire up (or even try), usually my Wife tries it once or twice with the non-start result and then on the next occasion it'll fire up instantly as normal. Only occurs on chilly mornings, for the rest of the day it'll be fine. Any ideas? I've just replaced the HT leads with Magnecors and they have made the car smoother at idle and more eager to start (when it does) - no sign of missfire under load. Anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for this car?
Steve.

Looks like somebody changed the factory standard connector block on my 96 colt to fit a pioneer keh-1300, does anybody have or know where i can find the details on the wiring harness for the stereo, what colour does what. I can't find a workshop (haynes) manual for the car. I'm trying to fit a new head unit with an iso connector block on the back. I can get an iso to block to lots of spade connectors so i should be able to use that once i know what the wires coming from the car match up to!
Thank you all
