It has come to my attention over the last few months that is is entirely impossible to find a good working replacement engine for my 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage. I have looked EVERYWHERE! Everytime I think I have found one, it is either already sold or is un-available!! The Majority of places do not even carry them. What should I do? If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, or places that may be of some help... PLEASE PM ME ASAP! THANKS!! -->Ashley

My girlfriend has a 2000 Mirage with 1.8L and auto trans with 79277 miles. I'd like to service the automatic transmission (change fluid and filter).
I ordered a filter kit from RockAuto.com and what I received looks like an oil filter, albeit a different diameter, but a screw on can type filter non-the less. It didn't come with a pan gasket much to my lament. I looked last night at the trans and didn't see any place external to replace the filter. Is the canister filter inside the pan which is mounted vertically in the driverside front corner of the engine compartment? I also noted a drainplug on the lowest portion of the driverside of the trans and also what looks like an inspection window further up on the same side of the transmission. Is that the fill mark or something? It had the normal road dirt and I didn't look closely so it could've been something else.
Maybe rock auto stiffed me on the gasket, or sent me the wrong part? Also how many quarts are required and what flavor fluid? She bought this car used and unfortunately doesn't have an owners manual.
Any advice this forum could offer would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Boy is this car easy to service, the oil plug and filter are so close together you can easily drain in both locations using one pan. Also appreciate the filter being mounted as it is to trap the oil when loosening up for replacement. Very smart mitusubishi. In all the cars I've serviced this one has been the most pleasant to work on thus far!!!
Now if we could just get the central locking system to work, we'd be set!!!!

I am trying to rig up a basic intake filter to my stock tubing. I rigged it up at first without the sensor but that caused the car to sputter and die. Now I want to connect it through the sensor but there is no way to fit it on. Do they sell bracets? I was looking at some full intake systems but they look like they won't be utilizing the sensor either. Could someone please help me? Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

Howdy,
What is the name of the component on the tailgate that has MIRAGE written across the top? It is found on the Mirage coupe for approximately the years 2000-2002? It has the trunk lock on the RHS.
The reason i ask...I am in Australia, and we call the 2-dr coupe a Lancer, and the 2-dr hatch a mirage. So, my one of these has LANCER written across it. If you havent seen this before you can link to my car pic
http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php...CODE=12&CID=414Seeking further individuality, i would like to replace my nares blue license plate surround with one that reads MIRAGE. i am having difficulty sourcing the part because i dont know who in the USA to contact nor what the part is called. Please help!
cheers
Andrew

Hi!
[attachmentid=1634]
[attachmentid=1635]
I own a 2001 mitsubishi lancer MR coupe, 1.8 liter SOHC. I had been done a number of outlook enhancement but neglacted the engine modification. My car is located in melbourne and i wanted to supercharge my engine. Could anyone give me some advice and how much would it cost me (as i have to start saving money towards it).
Right now , i have a catalytic converter back onwards exhaust changed to a 2 inch pipe with a muffler. Other than that, all is standard with the engine.
For handling, I have front top and back top strut bars, lowered king springs and pedders sports shocks. With a 16 inch wheel.
After i have done engine modification, i was thinking of changing my breaks and add two sway bars front and back from RPW. Also thinking of convert my tiptronic to manual gearbox as it is starting to jump from 2nd to 3rd gear.
I like to drag my car and do some hard cornering, but not good at it. Hopefully can get some tips from dear fellow members. Cheers.
Best Wishes,
Ben

You also can hear the engine knocking a bit when its running low on oil...can anyone tell me what my problem is by chance before i go into some major investing to fix it?

Howdy. This is my first post on this forum. I recently just bought my 2000 Mirage DE. I put an ALPINE head unit in. CDA-9851 and I'm thrilled with it. Of course I'm looking to replace the factory speakers. I'm confused as to what size of speakers are my options. Am I limited to just one size of speakers, or is it up to a certain dimension. It would help me out a ton if someone could tell me the speaker dimensions for my 2000 mirage DE, so i know what my options are. Also, does the bigger the speaker size usually mean better? I ask because the guy @ best buy told me just one measurement for speaker size, but cruthfield tells me several size options that will, "fit my car" and reccomends the larger, 6.75'' speakers
In short, if someone could tell me the dimension options for my front and rear speaker it would help me out a ton
Also, anybody have any thing to say about putting a changer in my trunk. I'm thinking about putting a 6 disc alpine mp3 changer in, but not sure if anyones run into problems with such an install.
Thank you much.

Here's what i'm looking for:
-- HEADLIGHTS: the current headlights suck. i want those blue ones, so i can see further. as it is, i'm going to have to adjust the headlights i have, so figured i can pop in some xeon bulbs or whatever. So i want to know where do i get these lights from, is it just as easy as swapping them out? etc.
-- ACCELERATION: it's a great car, but what "bolt-on"s can i get to increase the car's acceleration? are there any? Note this without putting a turbo on it or something. whatever 'upgrades' you suggest, tell me where i can get them too
Thanks a lot, i'm very happy with this car

My horn was working fine untill it accidently hit it very lightly now it just doesn't work at all now. When I press it in you can hear the relays clicking, I check the fuse box and it wasn't blown. I've spent the last hour looking for that **** thing. Does anyone know were the horn is? and were it might be located on the car. I'm pretty sure I can figure the rest out.

My sole means of transportation, my trusty mirage seems to have taken a dump on me. I'm by no means a car guy...in fact i know next to nothing. Everyones telling me that it sounds like my timing belt has snapped. I understand that this can be bad news because of some sort of interference problem. So i have a few questions...please bare with me.
1) If the timing belt has done further damage to my engine will i hear some metal on metal noises when i try to crack the engine up? Because as of now i hear none...just this whining noise and all my belts are spinning.
2) I'm going to attempt to replace the timing belt myself this weekend with the help of my uncle that knows a bit about these things. Where exactlly is the timing belt located? Will i have to pull the entire engine out or is this something i can get to without taking such measures?
I appreciate any helps that you guys can provide. This is my sole means of transportation and im tired of bumming rides back and forth to work everyday.
Thanks!

ok this is my wifes car i have an rx-7:p but anyways me and my dad bought this car about a year ago because my truck broke again and i passed the car on to my wife. but the car is having problem, it is stuttering on take off and it has a rough idle (adjusted it but it idles high now:(...). i have changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter it has good pressure in the fuel line itself, and i cant (to my knowledge) adjust the timing without a computer....so any ideas i am a pretty competent mechanic so open to all ideas..

My left turn signal is stuck and it wont go back to normal. The lever seems to work, but when I use it, it has no effect. The left turn signal wont stop blinking and I can't seem to fix it. I was just wondering if this has happened to any of you, and if there is a simple solution or if it's more complicated?

Hi, I just installed all my car audio today into my 96 colt mirage, the problem is i left a live 12v wire from the back of the cd player wiring loom loose, it hit the chassis behind where the cd player sits and caused a spark.
I checked the fusebox and it had blown a fuse that controls the cd player+speedo.
Now when i start my car and drive it, the car stalls everytime i come to a stop.
Could that spark have stopped something mechanical in the car working? or do you think this is not related?
If so which part do you think has stopped working??
Help would be so much appreciated!!!!

I need to know if i should buy this car, it's a 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage DS (4 door). that's all i know about it, even though i went to look at it today. the body's in perfect condition, spotless, "gold" color. the inside is great too, and it seems to run fine.
this is going to be my "commute" car, and needs to be reliable, and comfortable. i need to know (IN ALL YOUR HONESTY, please don't stick up for it just because it's a mitsubishi)... is this a good, reliable car? I'm paying $4000 for it, and it's got 52,000 original miles.
Should i go for it? Let me know what to check for before paying for it
Thanksa lot, really appreciate it
~Lorenzo

Just like the topic say, how do you loosen the crank pulley on an ATX?
My brother-in-law and I have been trying everything we can think of on how to loosen it but the thing just keeps on spinning.. The only thing that we haven't done is using an impact wrench.. Is there any other way on how to loosen it? BTW, the car is a '98 mirage 1.6L...
Thanks in advance...
