If you need help, have a question, or are looking for something specific, proper grammar and punctuation are essential. It's understandable that English is not the primary language for some of our users, but if you are able to use the internet in your country, then you are also able to use spell check, grammar, and punctuation to at least some extent.
Here are a few resources to help you better understand the English language, and how it works.

That, or you could use Firefox as your internet browser while using our forums. Firefox will underline any word you may spell wrong, allowing you to simply right click your mouse to find the appropriate spelling.
Don't be lazy, proofread your post before submitting, and fix any errors you see.

A quick tip for anyone trying to fix a p0456 DTC on an 02 Lancer. I found a cracked check valve attached to the top rear of the gas tank. I was able to remove the check valve without having to drop the fuel tank by loosening the 2 bolts that hold up the front of the tank and removing the 3 bolts from the rear, then by using a mirror I was able remove the check valve. It was cracked at the point where it attaches to the tank. First confirm that the leak is there by removing the 2 bottom hoses on the front of the EVAP canister, plug the larger hose and blow into the smaller hose, you should hear the leak above the gas tank. Exopy work fine to plug the crack on the check valve.

I have an 02 Lancer LS. Auto. And today it started acting like it wanted to choke out when I step on the gas to pass or press it half way down at take off. It does a couple jerks then goes away. I bought it about 10months ago and have put about 30k on it in that time using it as my delivery vehicle. I changed the oil and the air filter last week, and now its doing this. Before this I never had any problem with it. If I slowly accelerate it does fine, and if im staying at one speed it does fine, only under mid to hard acceleration it acts funny. The oxygen sensor has went bad but thats been like it for awhile. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm new to this forum and looking for help! I've never owned a Mitsubishi before so I'm asking you, the experts for advice.
First off, here's what I'm looking at:
http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/ctd/1601998176.htmlIt's a 2005 Lancer, stick with 35k and they're asking about $5k. I talked with the guy and he tells me that it's made in Japan - sounds good right?
My questions are:
- How does this compare to its competitor, say a Honda Civic or Toyota corolla?
- What should I look for that unusual for this model car? (Example: sticky gas pedal, leaky power steering, etc.)
- Is this a good price for this car?
- Is this car safe and dependable? I really haven't seen many on the road
- am I crazy?!
I figured if the car was so great, more would be out there. There really aren't many for sale on Craig's List across the country!
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Help!

Hello all
So i've been looking for a new car and the 03 Lancer definitely caught my eye.
I'm really thinking about getting one and I know someone who can replace the timing belt for me, so it wont break the bank for that thing.
Anything else I should know about other than the timing belt?
My buddie tells me they are really fun to drive, and am really looking forward to purchasing one.

Hi everybody, I'm Chris! I'm thinking about purchasing a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 5-Speed 2.0 with 117,000 miles on it. I've never owned what most of my friends refer to as "ricers."

Being completely new to this type of vehicle, having only driven Fords and Audi's (Yeah, what a combo, right?), I know nothing about Lancers. I drove an 03 awhile back 5 speed, and I liked the feel of it. It had excellent mileage, and pretty decent handling. It doesn't have that pointless spoiler on it, so that's a plus.
I guess my question is what sort of things should I know about this car as far as common issues with this specific model? I love the car already, but I wanna know what I'm getting into before I pursue it.

I have a 2002 ES Auto, and yesterday out of nowhere a loud clicking noise started coming out of the engine compartment. It only happens when I'm accelerating in gear, it doesn't make the noise when I rev it in neutral. Worried about the transmission possibly? The noise sounds kind of like a flapping, like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike wheel kinda thing.
Any advice?
Thanks

Hi people i own a Lancer Cs3, its on a 4G18 engine. I recently installed a cam pully and advanced it to 2 degrees.
Today i heard engine knocking sounds. Wondering if it is because of the cam pully or just because i whacked the car too much during a sprint with my buddys.
This has got me very worried. Could use some advice from other more experienced drivers here.
Thanks,
Ben

Hi,
I have an automatic 2002 lancer Es. It has 110000 miles. I noticed that I have to add 1 bottle of oil (1l) every 900 miles (from full to empty). With my commute it is around every two-weeks or so. I talked to the dealer and they said it was normal for a Mitsubishi engine... Really !!!???
Also there is a huge dark spot on my bumper (my car is white...) just above the exhaust system. I would think it is related to the car burning oil.
Someone told me about an additive from bardahl I could use to reduce oil consumption.
Oh and there is no oil spot under the car where I park.
Please advise !
Thanks

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at
TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.
We're already reporting a result for the 2008, but haven't enough owners signed up for earlier years.
Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.
For the details, and to sign up to help out:

I have a 06 lancer es, I need to know the difference in the intake between the 05 and 06. specificly the mass air flow sensor. I am about to buy a short throw intake system for it and the website said that they are not the same, But they are the same set up as far as I can see. Can someone give me a clue about this? Much thanks if you can answer this.

Hi guys, i need ur help here. I have a 2002 lancer oz rally and i swap the engine from an 2006 lancer es. After swap my fuel pump start screaming and when i drive it its like there not enough fuel in the cylinders(it shaking). I made some research and realized that on my old 02 engine the fuel pressure regulator was build on the engine, but the 06 engine dont have it build in, the fuel pressure regulator on 2006 lancer es its on the fuel pump assembly,in the tank. Soo basically my car right now is running without a fuel pressure regulator . I tried to change the fuel pump assembly and tank from 2006,but is not interchangeable with my 2002 lancer.
guys please i need to know if i can build on my new engine a vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator or i need an after-market hight performance fuel system. Please i need ur ideas here.
I need to know if someone had problem like mine.

Well, I've decided to replace the gearbox on my Lancer Coupe. I've had this car from new and the gearbox needs replacing, so I bought another Lancer for parts ($300 ) in which the gearbox is good. Now comes the planning, checklist of things required and steps to take. I'll remove the tired gearbox first because I'm not driving this car and then remove the good gearbox , then install. Could anyone who has done this be able to give some advice? I'm not sure if I'll need new gaskets or if it is pretty straight forward. Also any idea of how long it might take? By the look of it, working on the Lancer will be easier than my Lotus anyway! Thanks John

My sister has an 02 Lancer and her heater-A/C knob is stuck on heat and wont move. Its broken off now cause I tried to make it move

She took it it and turns out this was a problem that the Lancer had they told her, is this true? Anyways, they want like 3k to fix it, said the cable in side is messed up? So not sure if this is true or if they are just saying it cause she's a girl and doesnt know any better? I did a search under (a/c knob, a/c heater) the other day but didnt find anything.
Anyone have this problem and how can I fix it for her?
Thank You

i'm trying to change my timing belt and I can't get the nut off the crankcase pulley in order to get the cover off. It's a 2002 Lancer. This thing is kicking my butt. I have the tool to pull the pulley off when I get the nut off, but I can't get that nut to break without having the pulley turn. there has got to be a trick to it. Please help. 2004 Lancer ES, new tires, new filter, new plugs.
A) I'm only getting about 30mpg on about 85-90% highway mileage, about 350-360mi per tank. Is this about normal? The things I've done to it to try to adjust this are as follows:
-Taken the cold air scoop off from the radiator support, to keep hot exhaust air going to the intake to keep the IAT up, as told to try by the "import guru" at Advance Auto (I'd take a bit from him, he drives an 02 Ralliart and he's got it up about 50HP.) Also, I've cut the bottom of the downtube out for running in the summertime to get a warm/cold mix to the intake.
-Used B-12 Chemtool in the intake vacuum port, cleaned it out nice.
-Replaced the air filter recently (back to Fram, Wix did not cut it at all, but I'm considering a system with a conic filter and aluminum tube.)
-Replaced sparkplugs at 75,000, currently at 87,500 miles.
Any mods you'd suggest, or other tricks to try?

Is there a way to put cruise control on one of these? I drive 500 miles a week on my commute and I'd love to not feather the gas. I'd like to have cruise control which might help a little bit with A.
C) Do the keys on the 04 Lancer ES have a chip? I want to at least mount a key somewhere on the car for when I get locked out again.
D) Any other ideas? I'm paying the car off next month and I want to start using some of the leftover money from not having to pay that car payment to improve my car. I'm looking to get some form of seats to make it so I sit down lower. I'd like to get some kind of mod to put some kind of seats with five point harnesses on them and put them on a low profile, I'm tired of leaning down to look at stoplights.
E) Still looking for ideas on how I should go about installing a car computer into the existing aftermarket stereo via aux jack. But I need a good display.
All suggestions are appreciated, it's been awhile since I've been here to peruse...

I have a quick question:
Do you have to remove the front hub assembly to take out the wheel studs? It doesn’t look like there is enough clearance to remove (hammer out) the stud.
I replaced one of the studs on the rear with no problems. One of the studs on my driver side has cross threaded. I chopped off the end of the stud and it works fine. I would just like to replace it so that I don’t encounter any problems in the future.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

i had a headlight go out on the driver side of my 05 lancer es. never replaced one before, so i look online, sounds easy. im trying to disconnect the bulb from the connecting piece and have had no luck. there is a snap to press and its supposed to come right off but wont budge for the life of it. ive pressed it completely down and pulled, ive even pressed it and tried wedging it out with a screwdriver. i can twist the attachment piece off but i still cant disconnect the bulb.
is there some other trick to this? i feel retarted for not being able to do something this (supposedly) simple.

I know this is a common problem with my year, Mitsubishi will not recall it as they do not consider it a safety issue. they also said they would charge me between $300-$1000 to fix it >.<
It was not a big issue for me during the summer, but with winter coming and colder mornings already, I'm dyin for some damn heat!
What I would like to know is, how can I bypass the switch and just manually open/shut the valve or door which controls the hot /cold, as I cannot afford to spend a lot of money to have it fixed right now, but don't want to freeze my butt of because of it.
I know a Honda I had some years ago, the valve was under the hood and could easily be closed to allow the heater to work.
Is there something like this on the Lancer and where can I find it?
Thanks guys!

ok heres the code i got when i got my engine scanned: PO421.
The guy there said its my cat not warming up quick enough because im not using a high enough octane gas. but for a while i was using premium and it was still there quite often but would go off every once in a blue moon.
Now heres what the ticket says:
The PCM has determined that the warm up catalyst efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operatin condition. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)
Code:PO421
Definition: Catalyst efficiency low-bank 1
Explanation: The oxygen sensors monitor the catalytic converters ability to store oxygen.
Probable Causes:
1. Catalytic Converter defective (Failure possibly due to #2, 3, 4)
2. Engine misfire or running condition.
3. Large vacuum leak
4. Engine oil leakage into exhaust- vavle guide seals, piston rings.
My dad is suggesting to just buy a new o2 sensor and c what happens. if i do that should i just go and buy an air/fuel gauge so i can see how my engine is running.
Or should i just go and buy a new "honeycomb" as the tech. put it which would cost like 300 or so bux. then he advised to just go to a muffler shop and get them to put on a universal one that would just be like 100 or so bux.
N e suggestions would be very much appriciated. Thank you.

I just replaced the timing belt and now the engine will not start. All timing marks are set on top dead center where they should be. The engine turns over but it will not start. I have fire at the spark plugs and have tried starter fluid. It still sounds like the timing is off, but all marks line up. I am adept at engine repair but this problem has me stumped, any help will be appreciated.

Hi all,
I joined up here a bit less than 12 months ago as my sister bought a 97 GLXi Lancer. Unfortunately, today came the end of that era.
During a down pour, she rear ended a brand new lancer in front of her. (Im told its a jealousy thing)! The new lancer was slowing down because of another merging car and a half-second lapse in concentration on my sisters behalf resulted in a decent prang.
It was her first car and today was a mournful one as she had to say goodbye. Mild concussion, whiplash and an almost definite blackout (she cant remember!!) were the only injuries which is amazing. Police officer was in a good mood too and decided not to charge her!!
Anyway, enough chit chat. Here are some pics...

And the car she ran into

I just got a great deal on changing the timing belt from my local dealer. Of course he recommend some additional work. He is recommending changing "the four motor mounts" He wants $450 for four mounts and $550 to put them in. Is there really four motor mounts, I thought maybe they are calling the trans mount, a motor mount. Not sure what the others are. While the dealer gave me a good deal on the timing chain he is known to be real expensive on other items.
Do I really need to change all four mounts?
Is there someplace to get them besides the dealer, I cannot find them any place else.

Hi MF...
I'm from Australia
I am about to purchase a TWM short shifter kit with my friend who owns a 2006 2.4L lancer ES...so we can get cheaper shipping if we both order our stuff from TWM..
i already know my model of my car, however my friend is not sure what model his lancer is...
on the TWM website... there are 3 options
1) 2001+ up lancer
2) 2001+ up lancer ralliart
3) Evo
obviously its not an evo as u can tell because its not turbo charged...
but im confused whether if it is just a lancer or a lancer ralliart....(because it has the words MIVEC on the side markers) whatever that means
wikipedia says 2.4L is ralliart.. but i thought lancer ralliart was lancer VRX versions...
here are some pictures

could anyone be kind enough to let me know what model his lancer is?
thank you so much

So last night i was driving, the weather was kind of bad and i ended up hitting a patch of ice and lost control of my car. By the time i regained control i was about 5 feet from hitting the center median, and there was nothing i could do but go straight into it. It popped the front driver side tire on impact, and bent something underneath the car, but im not sure what it is. The tire now sits about 4 inches back from where it usually does, and it hits the fender. If i could get a little input before i go pay to get it looked at, i will appreciate it. Thanks in advance

im about to go in to work right now, but if needed i will post pictures from underneath the car later tonight

Purchased a 2007 Lancer for my son and daughter to drive. Hoping to teach son/daughter some car car and maintenance as well. Dealer parts dept. in columbus oh says the factory service manual is not available. Is this the case or is there just no profit in it for the dealer. I know from past cars I have had that the factory manuals are expensive, but very detailed and accurate. My hope was that the factory manual would include nice general descriptions of the different groups to help in understanding how they are supposed to work. I did purchase an e-bay manual that was labeled as being for 2007 to 2009 but indeed it was for the 8th generation model beginning with 2008, excellent manual maybe one of the best I have ever seen. Hoping to find the proper 2007 if it exists or do you just use the 2006 knowing little if anything changed for the 2007 year model. Any suggested sources or should I just watch ebay? Thanks for any replys!!

OK so I dug out a copy of the 2002 Lancer Manual. I assume everyone would like to have access to it. So if someone would like to let me know who to send it to so they can post it up here I would appriciate it. I attached it but not sure if it will work.
