This is for everyone who asks, "How can I make my Lancer faster, what can I do to increase performance?"
Attached is an article describing the upgrade path for the US Lancer 2.0L (ES or OZ), model years 2003-2006.
Enjoy.

okay so i have a 05 lancer es. i bought it used about a year ago. it had a few different aftermarket parts already on it when i got it. one of these is road race cold air intake. once while driving in some heavy rain the engine locked lost power and i had to pull over. by the time it got towed to the mechanic it was working fine again. probable cause was that water had gotten sucked through the intake. so after prepping for some maintenance/upgrades i found out that you can get a bypass valve in case your intake gets submerged. its been raining at records pace here in louisiana and sometimes the roads get a bit flooded, so this is probably a good thing to have.
my question:
i measured the pipe of the intake to be about 2.5". there is an AEM intake bypass available online. will this work for the road race intake that i have? i assume it will, but i figured someone here probably has more experience with all this than i do.
i guess while im at it, how hard is it to install this bypass and is it worth it? i believe you have to cut the pipe which i dont really want to have to do, but my dad has a shop with the tools and if i pay him a visit he will probably help me out.
thanks in advance

Hey, I got my Lancer about a month ago, and I'm DYING to start modifying it. After learning to drive on my dad's Ford Taurus (the one with the DOHC 24V V6 @ ~200HP) and getting the Lancer OZ (at a whopping ~120HP!!!) I want to try and increase my performance.
I already know that one of the first things I do is going to be a cat-back exhaust, and from what I've read here on the forums and elsewhere online, I know the stock exhaust pipping robs the engine of air.
I'm looking to switch to 2.25" piping, but the only cat-back exhaust system I can find that isn't **** expensive has a 3.5" tip on it, and I DON'T want a cannon coming out of the back of my car, because I'm looking to not sound like all the other a**holes on campus (I go to a community college) who modify their cars.
Any suggestions on how to get a good cat-back system without sounding like I have a 454cu under the hood?

Hi,
I am using Lancer GLX car, 4G13 (1.3 MPFI) Engine, Model - CS1, Manual Transmission, Manufacture year 2001.
I have an Engine tuning problem. As soon when Engine cold start RPM goes up to about 1900, when vehicle not moving it will come down to 1300 RPM, but when turning steering wheel again RPM goes up to about 1800 and when car reversing again goes up to 1900 rpm, if car did not move 1300rmp will maintain. When car is driving 1600rpm will remain while we shifting gears. This affect will remain only for a bout 3-4 minute after cold engine start at 28C, when engine heat up to normal temperature everything is normal.
We clean and check throttle body but no deference. Check bi-metal gate it is working fine. My car TPS fixed,(stepper Motor ok, since AC idle up working fine, throttle stopper checked ok. We try to adjust air screw on top of throttle body, we feel slight deference while turning it, since I would like to know what is the standard setting for air screw. Better if I can have throttle body servicing proceedings and setting for my car.
I am waiting for your reply.
Thanks and kind Regards,
Sanjeewa

Hey guys -
My mrs has a 97 lancer front wheel drive, and has been saying for a while she wants an exhaust for it.
She wants one thats notey, that you can hear/notice, but wont deffen you while your driving 100ks down the highway.
So i suppose my question is what the best system to fit? How much? Anyone got a 2nd hand one they want to dish off? Or is there someone you can recommend in the SE suburbs of melbourne that could do it?
I was gonna try and do it for our anniversary as a suprise.
Thanks, John.

Okay, so reading through posts for technical advice yielded great results, but my problem seems to be a mix of everything. I have an 06 lancer ES with a magnaflow catback, headers, intake, throttle body and a split second ecu piggyback (there's more, but these are the related ones). I also have a constant CEL, a misfiring 3rd cylinder and a non-working tach. I understand that the misfire is possibly fixed by replacing plugs/coils (which is in the works for next weekend) and that the CEL will most likely be associated with that fix. But my tachometer went at the same time as the coil/plug etc. and so far I've found no mention of this issue relating to the others. Has anyone had this issue and/or know a fix? I'm pretty good with the 'theory' part of engines and such, but my actual working experience with them is minimal -> this is my first project car. Another question, what's the order of the cylinders for cylinder numbers?
Thanks much for taking the time to read this and even help, if you do

ok, i have a 2002 lancer ES. the downstream o2 sensor(which i dont think is actually downstream of the cat but is further downstream than the other one.) went bad so i tried to replace it. when i tried to remove it from the exhaust pipe, it broke off, so now i have half of an o2 sensor in my exhaust. I, in my infinite wisdom, decided i would replace the exhaust and then put in the new o2 sensor into the new exhaust, so i ordered a magnaflow catback exhaust. after ordering it, i found out that it doesnt come with a new cat, and i still need the piping forward of the cat. what is the piping forward of the cat called? where can i order it? and does it come with the hole for the o2 sensor already in it? what else besides headers and cat do i need to purchase to complete the exhaust?

So I'm going on tuesday to get a flowmaster super 44 series muffler and 3" downpipe put on my car. The guy I'm going to is a friend of my co-worker, and he said that I would need a new header as well. Is this something that I have to get at the same time or can it be done in 2 different appointments?
I tried a search for this but I didn't find anything but I might just be blind, so sorry if this is a repeat question.

I am looking into getting a SRI for my 02 OZ Rally, it' an AT. I have been looking and have found the Injen SRI for about $190 shipped and the RRM SRI for about $165-170 shipped. I was wondering if either one of these is better than the other, also if there is a better brand than the two I am looking at. Are these pretty good prices or could I expect lower if I look harder. Thanks.

Ok. So this is a legit honest ask for help. I really have a pretty good handle on cars and working on them, and anything i can't do, my buddy knows how to do. I drive a 2006 Lancer SE 5sp. I am looking to buy a medium grade turbo kit. I don't know what logistics i should look for, but i've heard that if i want to run any more than 7-8lbs of boost, i'm gonna have to get rid of the stock pistons. the engine is a 4g94 engine, with no mods yet. I had thought about a CAI but wanted to wait to buy the kit this summer. Also... Exhaust systems... cat-back have no idea what that means, Catylic converter? idk. Anyway i'm looking to spend some money, but wouldn't really like to break the bank. Any suggestions would be nice... Have heard good things about garret turbo systems, but they are pricey? Thanks a lot!

Hey everybody. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good and not too expensive hi flow cat. Maybe you bought it and would recommend it or have heard about a pretty nice one. Anything ya'll can tell me is helpful. I read that around 100k miles the stock cat starts to go out. If this is true I have a cat-back exhaust, and figured why replace it with stock when the stock would probably cost twice or even three times as much as a better cat (performance wise). Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Hi, I'm new to the form, and I am also new to owning a lancer. I wanted to know what your opinions where on CAI brands (which are the best in terms of quality and price)? Also I noticed my engine service need light and it stalls out in first, I ran a OBD and got back code: PO171 System too lean (bank 1). I understands that this code has something to do with the MAF, and i was told because my car has a modded exhaust I need to put in a non-stock intake in order create an equilibrium between the input and output to fix both problems, is this correct? This is my car \/\/\/

Hey guys, I'm considering picking up a 2002 Lancer ES as a project. I searched this topic but didn't find anything - has anyone ever done a detailed picture walkthrough for a complete rebuild of the 4G94? I mean full teardown, rods pistons crank etc. and rebuild with everything to spec... if anyone's seen it, I'm looking for something very similar to the Corbin teardown/rebuild of the 420a on 2gnt.com.
If anyone's got any info, much appreciated.

I cant decide between the RRM or Injen SRI for my 03 OZ Rally. My main issue is about the CEL. #1 If the install is done properly, should the light come on and #2 how hard is it to install and #3 does the car work fine without a piggyback or tune. This is my first car and have never done any work on my car at all.

Hi all! My name's Bryan. i'm 21 and I'm from Panama, Panama (the country...not FL).
I'm a Mitsubishi fan.. I own a 05 Lancer GL (yes, they sell 1.3 Lancers here) and a 1989 Mitsubishi Starion.
Not here 2 talk abt the Starion... u'll do a post later on that...
Basiclly.... where the F do I start on the Lancer?
1. I know a 1.3 engine totally sucks if i'm thnking I'll ever hit low 14s just for a saying... I'm not a dreamer, all I'm trying 2 do is make a lil faster.
2. No, I'm not selling it... this is my daily drive.
3. No, I'm not into engines swap.
Started with the classic CAI. Here's a vid if u interested...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=722nKgunqdYI'll remove the cat this weekend, put the flywheel on diet, change the clutch (I'm not buying some overprice stuff @ ebay... i'm doing what we call here "semimetalico" which is somethng like "semimetallic" on english) and work the throttle (i haven't checked it so far... but i know somethng can b done there).
I tried to advance the timing 2 degrees but the computer's smart enough 2 know u're tricking it so all it'll do is delay the spark. So... same thng.
I'm also looking for some nice 14" wheels (not a bling bling fan) and chopping the coils. Y chopping them... cuz there r no grounding kits for my car. And if I buy the 2.0 coilovers, it'll fit but it'll look higher on the front than the back (cuz the engine's lighter).
Any suggestions? Performance chips that'll fit? Not an exhaust fan... i think they make more noise than HPs.
Engine specs:
1.3
16 valve
Single cam
Fuel cut's @ 7.400rpm ... vid here:

Ok, so I am getting and 05 lancer oz rally edition with 113000 on it for 6 grand.
I am wondering what are some mods that I can do to it that wont require me to spend a bunc of money (over 200 right now)
that will make it sound and perform a little bit better, I dont need to best parts just parts that will get the job done. thanks

I just bought a 2007 Lancer ES and I really like the car. I'm wanting to add a few mods such as exhaust, CAI, Headers, Lowering Springs etc..... Not really looking for speed with this car because it's just not worth it IMO due to the cost. I'm having alot of trouble finding websites that deal with the general edition Lancer, seems like every site I go to is all about modding the Lancer EVO. I have seen a few sites that offer parts for the other generation of lancers but I don't know if they'd fit? Anyone know if the parts for the 02+ Lancer's will fit on the 07 Lancer? Just wondering. I want to stay with major brand names when buying these parts. Anyone have any information about this?

I want to put a full exhaust system on my 02 lancer and i have been looking around and ive seen the usual exausts, magnaflow, greddy, DC sports, ect. but recently i found an exaust called a tsudo N1. the website looks pretty legit and the exaust is only 175.00$!!! i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing lol. well give me your opinions on it and if u guys think its allright, i''''m probably gonna go ahead and buy it. Also my lancer is my first car and im not too worried if the exhaust i buy isnt the highest quality one. Here is the website:

My check engine light has been coming on and going off for a little bit and though I havent gotten it scanned yet I'm pretty sure it's the O2 sensor. Does anyone know the exact length of what the wire should be on the sensor? I know it has to be a certain length, and I'm worried that last time I put in the sensor I cut the wire either too short or too long.
I'm also getting some awful gas mileage and I'm hoping that the sensor is the culprit, and that maybe I cut the wire to the wrong length.

Well, after some careful thought, I've been considering doing a "custom" set up using 2.25" piping and a
Borla Turbo Universal Muffler. It was long ago decided by me that a silencer was going to be dropped into what ever system I got, and that I want to try the stock look...I'm sneaky like that.

That being said, what companies do all of you stand by for the cat-back/axle-backs on your cars? I'm hoping to get some more ideas before I settle.

hey. what do you guys think this means?
"No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle, above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle and the original muffler shall comply with all of the requirements of R.S. 32:352."
i live in louisiana. do ya'll think this means that you can't PHYSICALLY modify an exhaust? such as taking out a cat or resonator or something along those lines? or do you think it means that you can't replace stock with aftermarket?

I'm at the point with my 06 lancer es 4G94 block that I need to make a decision. NA or turbo. The classic debate. I recently came across a twin throttle body manifold idea that I've latched onto rather firmly despite my infallible love of the wastegate sound. *shudders and grins* I like to think of my knowledge on engines as well informed, but I've never ripped one apart. Yet. Has anyone had experience with multiple throttle body setups, and any horror stories? I know I will probably blow my first modded engine eventually due to my tinkering nature, but it hasn't happened yet and I'd like to hold off on that path for awhile, money issues and all that. So both NA and turbo comments would be welcome. Any experience with the 4G94 internals and advice relating to would be greatly appreciated as well.

In 2 weeks I will buy a K&N short ram cold air intake for my '05 Lancer Es, but I wanted to know if it will fit my 2.0L 4cyl 5M engine and how much will it increase my horsepower.
