This is for everyone who asks, "How can I make my Lancer faster, what can I do to increase performance?"
Attached is an article describing the upgrade path for the US Lancer 2.0L (ES or OZ), model years 2003-2006.
Enjoy.

Hi guys, i need ur help here. I have a 2002 lancer oz rally and i swap the engine from an 2006 lancer es. After swap my fuel pump start screaming and when i drive it its like there not enough fuel in the cylinders(it shaking). I made some research and realized that on my old 02 engine the fuel pressure regulator was build on the engine, but the 06 engine dont have it build in, the fuel pressure regulator on 2006 lancer es its on the fuel pump assembly,in the tank. Soo basically my car right now is running without a fuel pressure regulator . I tried to change the fuel pump assembly and tank from 2006,but is not interchangeable with my 2002 lancer.
guys please i need to know if i can build on my new engine a vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator or i need an after-market hight performance fuel system. Please i need ur ideas here.
I need to know if someone had problem like mine.

I have a 2002 lancer oz 2.0L sohc with about 109k. I bought it a few years back with about 80k but i had no idea how the car had been maintained. All in all it turned out the timing belt had never been changed. I was accelerating when the car suddenly lost power. Got it back to the shop, put a new belt on it that appears to be timed correctly but the car wont run. I checked all four cyclenders for compression and there is none. Im wondering/hoping maybe I have the timing wrong?
1. I lined up the hash mark on the cam with the arrow on the engine.
2. I believe the cylinder all the way to the left of the engine closest to the timing belt is cylinder #1 which I put at TDC.
3. I put the belt on, tightened the tensioner and put the covers back on and hooked up all sensors.
Now no compression on any cylinder. Did I smash ALL of the valves?? Should I take the timing belt off completely and do a compression test?
Please any info would be helpful. I am hoping not to have to drop a motor in it.

Hi Guys,
I am new to this community and this is my first post as well as first thread.
My query is as follows,
I have a 1999 make Mitsubishi Lancer which is based on the CK8A chassis with 4D68 non turbo diesel indirect enjection engine.
Since I dont use this car anymore as I have a different car for my daily use, I was contemplating doing an engine swap in it and do some performance mods.As it will be sparingly used, I was basically thinking of making it into a project car.
My question is, can I do an engine swap ? I tried searching a lot on Google regarding the above mentioned engine and chassis but found nothing.
Any help or guidance would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Amey

Hey, I got my Lancer about a month ago, and I'm DYING to start modifying it. After learning to drive on my dad's Ford Taurus (the one with the DOHC 24V V6 @ ~200HP) and getting the Lancer OZ (at a whopping ~120HP!!!) I want to try and increase my performance.
I already know that one of the first things I do is going to be a cat-back exhaust, and from what I've read here on the forums and elsewhere online, I know the stock exhaust pipping robs the engine of air.
I'm looking to switch to 2.25" piping, but the only cat-back exhaust system I can find that isn't **** expensive has a 3.5" tip on it, and I DON'T want a cannon coming out of the back of my car, because I'm looking to not sound like all the other a**holes on campus (I go to a community college) who modify their cars.
Any suggestions on how to get a good cat-back system without sounding like I have a 454cu under the hood?

My 99 Mitsubishi Lancer (4G92 16 Valve SOHC, with all scheduled maintenance and regular oil changes, etc) has a low idle and causes the car to shake/rattle. It idles at 500-700 rpm and it becomes worse in gear. When pushing the gas a little, it seems to smooth out really good at 700-800 rpm. Is there an easy way to adjust the idle up to around 800 rpm? Once I stop at a stoplight or something, after a couple seconds my idle will drop, car will shiver, and then go back up again. It only does it when the engine has been warmed up and does it more often when the A/C is on too.
I have replaced all the o-rings, valve seats and head gasket but still the problem persists!
Any suggestion or a way to bump it up to around 800 rpm? What is the recommended idle RPM?
Thanks!

I'm wondering is it possible to take the sway bar and linkage and other suspension items from say an Evo or OZ to an 04 ES. Also, I found some awesome mirrors on Ebay that are patterned after an M3 mirror and have LED lights on the side, someone let me know what they think about those!

Hi forum,
I own a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXI, lately I have noticed my car using wayyy to much fuel to the tank. I tripped it on a full tank to see how much I was using, it did 329km to a 40L tank..... Needless to say that the car is only a 1.8L 4 cylinder engine. A friend owns a similar car with a 1.8 L engine and he manages to get an easy 460 to - 480km out of his 40L tank. I have also smelt some weird fuel like fumes, which lead me to think that my fuel pump is broken? or that my o2 sensors may need replacing.
The car has a 4.5' cannon exaust tip on it, connected to a stock muffler (Has cracks and holes in it), but would this really cause my car to use that much fuel? I have booked it in to a local mechanic for a check up this week. So hopefully they can give me some answers, any help is greatly apprechiated.

Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum, any help appreciated.
I have a 2000 libero with the 4g15, when i got the car the previous owner had changed
the transmission to a much older f4A21 transmission without changing the TCU.
The car now only shifts automatically for the first 5 mins of driving each time after it is restarted.
So first thing i want to try is swapping the TCU for the relevant model to see if the problem is TCU related.
So if anybody can help me out with which model TCU was used with this Transmission
i would be grateful.(I believe this trans was used on 1990 & 1991 lancers and mirages.)

I have an 02 Lancer ES and over the past few months my car has started consuming way too much fuel! My engine light is on and the error code I keep getting is the P0421 which I know what it means already. I've changed both oxygen sensors and the catalyst that's under the car but I found out that there's another catalyst in the header. Is that true? Could this be the cause for the increase in fuel consumption? I'm also aware of the recall based on the P0421 code but unfortunately my warranty doesn't cover it. So what do you all think could be the problem? I change my oil and filters frequently and I also changed my spark plugs recently.

Hi,
I am using Lancer GLX car, 4G13 (1.3 MPFI) Engine, Model - CS1, Manual Transmission, Manufacture year 2001.
I have an Engine tuning problem. As soon when Engine cold start RPM goes up to about 1900, when vehicle not moving it will come down to 1300 RPM, but when turning steering wheel again RPM goes up to about 1800 and when car reversing again goes up to 1900 rpm, if car did not move 1300rmp will maintain. When car is driving 1600rpm will remain while we shifting gears. This affect will remain only for a bout 3-4 minute after cold engine start at 28C, when engine heat up to normal temperature everything is normal.
We clean and check throttle body but no deference. Check bi-metal gate it is working fine. My car TPS fixed,(stepper Motor ok, since AC idle up working fine, throttle stopper checked ok. We try to adjust air screw on top of throttle body, we feel slight deference while turning it, since I would like to know what is the standard setting for air screw. Better if I can have throttle body servicing proceedings and setting for my car.
I am waiting for your reply.
Thanks and kind Regards,
Sanjeewa

okay so i have a 05 lancer es. i bought it used about a year ago. it had a few different aftermarket parts already on it when i got it. one of these is road race cold air intake. once while driving in some heavy rain the engine locked lost power and i had to pull over. by the time it got towed to the mechanic it was working fine again. probable cause was that water had gotten sucked through the intake. so after prepping for some maintenance/upgrades i found out that you can get a bypass valve in case your intake gets submerged. its been raining at records pace here in louisiana and sometimes the roads get a bit flooded, so this is probably a good thing to have.
my question:
i measured the pipe of the intake to be about 2.5". there is an AEM intake bypass available online. will this work for the road race intake that i have? i assume it will, but i figured someone here probably has more experience with all this than i do.
i guess while im at it, how hard is it to install this bypass and is it worth it? i believe you have to cut the pipe which i dont really want to have to do, but my dad has a shop with the tools and if i pay him a visit he will probably help me out.
thanks in advance

Hey guys -
My mrs has a 97 lancer front wheel drive, and has been saying for a while she wants an exhaust for it.
She wants one thats notey, that you can hear/notice, but wont deffen you while your driving 100ks down the highway.
So i suppose my question is what the best system to fit? How much? Anyone got a 2nd hand one they want to dish off? Or is there someone you can recommend in the SE suburbs of melbourne that could do it?
I was gonna try and do it for our anniversary as a suprise.
Thanks, John.

Okay, so reading through posts for technical advice yielded great results, but my problem seems to be a mix of everything. I have an 06 lancer ES with a magnaflow catback, headers, intake, throttle body and a split second ecu piggyback (there's more, but these are the related ones). I also have a constant CEL, a misfiring 3rd cylinder and a non-working tach. I understand that the misfire is possibly fixed by replacing plugs/coils (which is in the works for next weekend) and that the CEL will most likely be associated with that fix. But my tachometer went at the same time as the coil/plug etc. and so far I've found no mention of this issue relating to the others. Has anyone had this issue and/or know a fix? I'm pretty good with the 'theory' part of engines and such, but my actual working experience with them is minimal -> this is my first project car. Another question, what's the order of the cylinders for cylinder numbers?
Thanks much for taking the time to read this and even help, if you do

ok, i have a 2002 lancer ES. the downstream o2 sensor(which i dont think is actually downstream of the cat but is further downstream than the other one.) went bad so i tried to replace it. when i tried to remove it from the exhaust pipe, it broke off, so now i have half of an o2 sensor in my exhaust. I, in my infinite wisdom, decided i would replace the exhaust and then put in the new o2 sensor into the new exhaust, so i ordered a magnaflow catback exhaust. after ordering it, i found out that it doesnt come with a new cat, and i still need the piping forward of the cat. what is the piping forward of the cat called? where can i order it? and does it come with the hole for the o2 sensor already in it? what else besides headers and cat do i need to purchase to complete the exhaust?

So I'm going on tuesday to get a flowmaster super 44 series muffler and 3" downpipe put on my car. The guy I'm going to is a friend of my co-worker, and he said that I would need a new header as well. Is this something that I have to get at the same time or can it be done in 2 different appointments?
I tried a search for this but I didn't find anything but I might just be blind, so sorry if this is a repeat question.

I am looking into getting a SRI for my 02 OZ Rally, it' an AT. I have been looking and have found the Injen SRI for about $190 shipped and the RRM SRI for about $165-170 shipped. I was wondering if either one of these is better than the other, also if there is a better brand than the two I am looking at. Are these pretty good prices or could I expect lower if I look harder. Thanks.
