Ok, so I saw how expensive bigger brakes are. I managed to get a set of brand-new GS-T calipers and they fit perfectly. The stopping power is great, and they look good, too. I used my extended warranty, went aftermarket with the calipers, and got a set for $220, where Mitsubishi wanted $350 for ONE. I will post pics soon, I promise.

A year ago I (clap for me)
changed my front brake pads myself. I have since took a trip home and when home friends like to ride with me (normally in my car, im alone riding) and I started noticing that with people in the back seat and even more stuff in my trunk will make a
knocking sound coming from the right rear tire area of the car and only when making left hand turns... Well on the way back from my trip I was driving the usual 80mph and a little passed 80 I noticed a slight shake in the car more than normal as well as a
clicking sound coming from that same rear right tire area. I dont drive 80 now that I am home and never have anyone in the car with me to know if its still doing that knocking but now I am getting a squeaking sound as if that exact back right tires brakes are worn down possible. Now my last car was a caddy and it had drums in the back. I never even looked yet on my lancer but is it shoes? Can I just buy
back brake pads and do the same thing for the front? And honestly... is that really my (ONLY) problem? Does anyone have any ideas on the knocking? My friend said maybe my
shocks or strutts but I know crap about vehicles... Well I can change my oil and front brake pads, I even helped someone do the drum brakes on my old Cadillac but overall I hate working on cars cause I feel like im gonna screw something up and not be able to get anywhere....
Can anyone help give me some insight to all of this? Thanks in advance!!!I would be willing to trade any services for information so if you can do anything to help, feel free to check out http://portfolio.337studios.com and see my types of work and I could do something for you. Hi all! This is my first post on these forums. I usually work on motorcycles and learned how invaluable forums like these can be! Anyways, I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ which I wrecked 3 days after buying it. I smacked the bee-jeezes out of my front right wheel on a curb. Bend the control arm back a few inches. Very sad.
I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the control arm and that got me back on the road. Ever since then I've noticed this weird rattling noise under the front right side of my car. It rattles when I stop accelerating, am shifting gears, or hitting bumps. The rattling comes and goes but is pretty noticeable to me. About 10K miles after my wreck my front right axle went out. I replaced the axle and also the sway bar linkage. I figured the bushings and washers were sliding up and down causing the rattling noise. However, it is still rattling. The sway bar linkage is tightened down with about 2/3" of the screw poking out of the top nut. I can tighten it down more but don't want to over do it. What else can I check or try to wiggle to find out where this problem is coming from!
Thanks for any help in advance!
-Michael

Sounds ridicule, but when I apply the brakes, the front ones will make a noise that sounds like a little bird stuck in the wheel.
It's not "squealing", it's "couicing". The noise will slow down when i'm coming to a stop.
IE: couic couic couic couic ... couic ... couic ... couic .....couic .....couic ..... couic .......... couic .......... couic ...................couic
What I did on the car to try to make it stop doing this:
-Change brake pads and rotors
-Change brake shims
What I'll try to do:
-Change brake oil?
-Change the entire caliper?
Any input?
Thanks for helping

Marc

Hi, i have a 2007 Lancer ES (2.0L)
I want to put aftermarket shocks, struts, sway bar and cold air intake on it. Problem is, I'm running into a brick wall as far as google searches for these items. Everything I find is either for the Evo, Ralliart, or Eclipse. It also doesn't help that I don't know exactly what I'm looking for.
If anyone has any suggestions / brands / anything that would help me in my search for car parts it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I own a 2004 lancer es. It rides like crap, but that is what I would expect from a a base model. I have a friend who owns a 2005 eclipse gt that rides great and I am wondering if the struts could possibly work on my lancer. I think that since it is a similar sized Mitsubishi it might have some similar chassis architecture. I am looking into changing the quality of the ride and firming it up a little bit and I need to do it cheap. So a direct swap for another oem part would be cheapest I would think. Especially since I do not want to lower the car at all. Any info on other coil over swaps would be great. I know that this section of the forum is not too well traveled.

Okay, here's the thing, I have 77k miles on this beast, the only major repair I had done on it (under ext warranty) is a shifter linkage kit which shredded when I was trying to rock it out of the driveway one winter. $120...gotta love that extended warranty! It hasn't paid for itself, but it's still awesome....anyways.
The wheel flutters rapidly at highway and interstate speeds, I've been underneath it, and I've shaken and rattled every piece I can find suspension-wise, and I've got nothing, nothing acts out of the ordinary, and the wheels don't flutter when I grab them and shake them back and forth. Only things I can think of is that it's bad bald and probably broken tires. It was doing this before I hit the curb with the tire one time. Only thing wrong with the rim is that the lip is bent a little bit, other than that and probably a rebalance, that's it. I don't know where else to go!

K so I've got an 03 Lancer OZ. I had the rear driver side wheel bearing replaced. Ever since then it's made a clicking and sometimes clunk noise when I go over quick bumps. It was light, almost unnoticeable at first, but now It worse. Removed everything from trunk, and drove around. Still does it.
I lifted the rear up (jacked, not ramps) and noticed the rear sway bar bolts were almost touching the shock. But there didn't look to be any wear on either. Checked the other supports, nothing seemed out of the usual. But then again I'm not 100% sure of what to look for. I was just generally looking for sighs of rubbing or hitting. The bolts at the top of the strut towers seemed tight (what lb should those be too anyway?). No idea where it is coming from.
Any Ideas anyone? Thanks.

When I drive forward (Only going forward, oddly) there will be a loud metal on metal scraping noise coming from my front left wheel. It will do that for a bit and eventually go away, and I cant hear it at higher speeds (Stops at around 15 mph). Is this my wheel bearing? I have yet to take the wheel off and look under there myself, but I figured I'd ask the question to get a rough idea of what I might be working with.
Thanks

Hi everyone... Stupidly, I had to change the front right driver's tyre of my 2007 Lancer in the dark. Felt around for best point to insert jack and found a rubberised socket pretty much in line with near engine door edge, underneath drivers flooring.
Change tyre quickly without problems. Got back in car to discover I now have a dinner plate sized lump under driver side carpet. It feels like the jack has lifted, but not quite disengaged, some type of flooring plate, pretty much where the driver's feet should rest.
My question is can anyone in the forum confirm my diagnosis...I don't want to have to cut the carpet for further analysis... And can I just persuade it back in place with delicate use of a mallet.
Thanks everyone

Quick question for once: should I install a cross bar before I go get my alignment done, or afterwards?
As a followup if anyone cares to explain, is installing a cross bar as easy as removing the bolts atop the strut towers, putting it in place, and resecuring the bolts with the necessary torque?

Hey everyone. I have been looking at getting some new brake rotors since I got new rims. One, the stock is all rusted and old looking, and two, it takes a lot longer to stop with new rims than with the stock hubcaps. Anyways, any idea which, if either, is better? Slotted or drilled?

Just curious as to what wheels will fit my lancer. Ours is a 2004 ES and it came equipped with 15 inch black wheels and hideous looking wheel covers. I wouldn't mind putting the 15 inch OZ rally edition wheels on it, but do they fit? I haven't taken the covers off so I have no idea whether my wheels are 4 lug or 5 lug. I also don't know the bolt pattern, so any advice/help/suggestions would be appreciated.

When installing the front and rear strut bars, can I simply unscrew the 6 front screws (3 per side) and the 4 rear screws (2 per side) and install each strut? or is there some special torque that each screw has to be tightened at after I install the strut bar and am tightening the screws?
thank you

Ok its not too dificult but some may need a little help. the front is simple but i'll explain if asked. so first remove trunk interior sides, and undo two bolts over the shocks. then remove tire, take out 1 bolt on bottom of shock. take off the sway bar bushing its 2 small nuts connected to bolts on the body of the car, remove the lowest bolt on the hub, it will for sure drop down far enough now, but u have to push it down.
if u are replacing to coilovers take the mount and spring bushing, if ur replacing to oe u must have a spring compressor. and u keep ur spring unless replacing that too. u must use a impact gun to do this part expecially when u put new spring together.
if u got it this far appart u should be able to get it back together no prob. its faster than getting it out. now do the other side. start with the bolts in the trunk to the hub, then sway bar then shock
