SUP PEOPLE IM OBVIOUSLY NEW TO THE SITE IM A CURRENT OWNER OF A 3KGT SL I PURCHASED IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR IVE OWNED AN ARRAY OF DIFFERENT CARS FROM FOXBODY MUSTANGS TO SUBARU WRXS BUT I MUST SAY THAT THE 3KGT IS THE SLEEKEST CAR IVE OWNED IM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH IT EVEN THOUGH ITS AN AUTOMATIC NONTURBO
FIRST OFF YES I WANT TO TURBO IT EVEN THOUGH MOST TELL ME JUST TO SELL AND BUILD A VR4 BUT THATS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO ITS NOT EVEN AN OPTION I WANT TO PUT THE TIME IN MYSELF
MY FIRST QUESTION IS THIS SHOULD I BUY THE JDM ENGINE AND TRANNY TO DO ALL WHEEL DRIVE SWAP IN WHICH CASE I WOULD HAVE TO BUY DRIVE SHAFT REAR AXEL AND I THINK REAR SUBFRAME IF IM NOT MISTAKEN OR TURN IT IN TO A FRONT WHEEL TWIN TURBO I UNDERSTAND BOTH WILL REQUIRE LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY AND THIS IS OK IM JUST ATM LOOKING FOR THE TIME TO DO IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYBODY IVE READ OVER EMCS GUIDE TO MAKING IT FRONT WHEEL DRIVE TT SEEMS LIKE A HASSLE BUT NOT AS HARD AS I HAD IMAGINED. TY FOR THE REPLYS GUYS MUCH APPRECIATED.

JDM engine is the same as the USDM engine, so theres no benefit there..HOWEVER, If your dead set on the AWD conversion, ive seen JDM front clips on ebay, complete with TT engine and trans, rear subframe, and driveshaft...basically everything your gonna need for the conversion, along with a bunch of other stuff you might be able to make a few bucks back selling.
TT conversion is not that bad, but the AWD conversion will make it much more time and money, and it will definitely be cheaper to sell the NA and buy a VR4.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck, and keep up posted on the project!

Ive seen 6g72s TTs for sell online with 40k miles on them 2200 buks comes with engine tranny turbos intercoolers ecu pretty much everything under the hood no driveshaft or rear end stuff so u think it will be easier to go with my front wheel tt swap then?? If so how well do the 5 speeds na trannys hold up and is stuff to strengthen them readily available??

QUOTE (94gto @ Oct 29 2009, 11:33 AM) i have 13grand ready to dump in this car Don't do it. Theres my advice. The TT swap is simple as taking a shit. the AWD install is more like trying to build a boat out of a cheese grater.

Just sell it and buy a vr4, it'll be about 1/2 the price.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck, and keep up posted on the project! no front clip will have all of the parts necessary for an AWD conversion. You need to buy an entire VR-4 shell, and at that point, you may as well just buy a running and driving vr4.

Do you know where a VR4 shell is, and what parts are necessary to spot-drill out, and re-weld into the rear end of your car? Do you know what parts are necessary for a 5spd conversion? $8k, and we'll do it for you... parts and labor. AWD conversion, Twin Turbo conversion, and 5spd conversion. I'm telling you right now, once you get into it, you're going to be in over your head, I have seen it WAY too many times before. But if you're just looking for parts and you're dead set on doing it yourself... I have everything you need.

sorry to hijack.. one other option... I have a 97 SL that we're bringing in to put a new engine in. I can sell that to you with a 5spd awd Twin Turbo swap (basically, a 97 VR4) for $13k, and we'll even include a free pearl white repaint on the car (paint is a little drab and there are some dings, etc that'd we'd take care of as well). Call me if you'd like, and I can talk about some options (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) -Emilie

I have a spare 5spd fwd trans as well I believe. it's a 97 SL, but I can make it anything you want. We're in the midst of pulling the engine out right now (blown), and installing a rebuilt Jasper engine in it. If you wanted it twin turbo, I'd need to know asap, with a deposit, and I could have the turbos installed on the other engine before we drop it in either tomorrow or first thing next week. If you want it AWD, I have all the parts here to do it, ready to go as well, and can have those welded on. If you can, give me a call. It's easier to talk to you about the car, and any parts you want over the phone since I'm in and out of my office at the moment. (914) 364-2886, or the shop number (610) 438-0439 -Emilie

But give me a call later this afternoon/evening and I can talk to you about it a little more in-depth. Here's a few pictures of the 97. Please try to excuse the dirt/mud, it looks a little sad at the moment. It was sitting outside for quite a while before we bought it, and I have not gotten a chance to clean it up at all. The body is overall in really nice condition, it just desperately needs a detailing. We'd also include new tires as well if we get our asking price, $5500 (in stock form). If you wanted it twin turbo'd, or modified in any way, we would also include new tires with the car. http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d111/3Sc...3000GT/97%20SL/
