im posting for my friend, he has a 2004 ralliart with the 2.4 MIVEC with a CAI,header, and exhaust and his clutch is going out and maybe his transmission

the tranny makes a grinding noise when accelerating through the first 3 gears and when you let off the gas it stops, i told him maybe he needs a fluid change but his mechanic told him he needs to replace the tranny so idk, im a domestic guy so im not really into imports, anyone know what this would be?

and as for a clutch, how about this one? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACL-MR1-HDSS/
he loves to race around in his car so he wants something better than stock but not way overkill

so if anyone has any better opinions or any idea a better clutch he could get would be greatly appreciated, thanks

That sounds about right for the clutch. If you don't ride on it and beat on the clutch it should last about 100,000 miles on it. And what about the transmission has the gear oil been change??

i doubt it ever has, he said he was gonna have the tranny rebuilt but idk if that is necessary, could that noise be the pilot bearing? and so what do you think about that clutch?

Changing the gear oil is cheaper then doing a rebuild and see if that helps. is the clutch slipping?

I am experiencing the same problems, tell him that its probanly his throw out bearing.

A fluid flush will help, but he defienately will need to get a new throw out bearing
