Cleaning this filter should not be an option since the carbon filter will lose it's full potential after a period of time. Mitsubishi recommends replacing every year. I know they are expensive but you can get aftermarket filters now at half the dealer price. I always replace mine just before pollen season and spray cooling core with fungae disinfectant. My youngest daughter suffers a lot less from allergies this way.
