ok so something is def wrong with my car.. i start off driving fine but after a while the rpms start to jump by itself and then drop dramatically. when i go up a big hill the rpms drop to 1500( pedal to the floor) and the car is slow as shit and the car sounds like theres no power. i changed spark plugs and wires and even replaced the valve cover gasket and nothing. please help my car has never been this slow and its def more then just a loss of power... HELP

I bought this ride for 5k CAN. I know it's a 420A but still power seems lower than it should be. Only mods are some bright lights, K&N intake, Magnaflow dual pipe exhaust. on a cold start it whistles at me. i dont know why but the first 2 gears seem reaally stretched out, if i step on it 3rd gear doesnt engage until i hit 120k. this being said it changes gears at 6,500 rpm. is this nasty or normal?

Aside from mechanical mumbo jumbo my springs in the rear have been cut or broken and my camber is off so im getting a quick uneven wear in my tires. My idea is to change rear tires and maybe put 2 or 3 washers behind the higher arm that attaches to the trunk to push it out and not worry about springs for a couple months because im storing the car and possibly getting coilovers.
any oppinions are valued so please tell me what you think

After driving my car for over an hour today, I parked it and got out, my parking job was terrible, so I get back in to fix it and the car will not crank. Lights and radio came on, but nothing from under the hood. Went back out about 30 min later, same thing, except lights were kinda slow to come on... Not sure what this could be. Its a 98 eclipse GS.
I need this car to get to work, so any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

i've got a 96 eclipse non turbo im working on. the #2 and 4 injectors are firing. #1 and 3 will fire one pulse if you disconnect battery and reconnect. have allready swapped injectors around, they are all good. ohmed harness out to pcm. harness is good. are there any inputs to the pcm that would cause these 2 injectors not to fire? timing belt broke, and the cam lobes, and journals on head were wore slap out so i replaced the head and cams. put it back together, timed with both cam gears straight up and crank on mark. any help would be great. im a general motors guy so an import crossbred with a mopar isn't really my thing, but i'm trying to learn.

I know a clogged fuel filter will cause hard starting and shutoffs, but is it possible for a clogged fuel filter to flood or something, causing the engine to rev on its own?

So all of a sudden my car feels slugish and has trouble going up hills. So i went to change the spark plugs and i noticed oil on the spark plug.. Now does this mean i have a bad head gasket or does it mean i have to change the valve cover gasket. any help would be great thanks

My check engine light is on for awhile and I took it to two different autozone. Both said two different things after checking my car. The first said it was my o2 sensor and the second one said it was gas leakage. The only code i remember is the P0455. Has anyone had this issue and how did you make the engine light go away. I need this fixed ASAP...got an emission test on next Tuesday.

Here's the low down. I have a 1998 eclipse GS with coldair intake exhaust header and muffler.
Which means its wayy too slow. I use to have a 1991 eagle talon TSI which was AMAZING to drive, but the timing belt snapped, punched a hole through the piston amd cracked the head. My dad has it now and he thinks in 2 years he will beat me in a race.
Now for my car,
i just got a new engine that i am planning on doing a turbo build. Im looking AT LEAST 300FWHP.
Im pricing everything out right now, i will be doing all of the work myself (i am a tech) except the machine work.
I know i have to build for pressure.
I was wondering exactly what i have to do to the block and head (machine work)
I know there are a lot of expeirienced guys on this forum.
I justn dont know much about the machine work.
Any help, tips, or ideas such as where i could get my required parts from, what size turbo, ect. would be great.

P.S. I will be taking photos and posting what i do step by step for anyone else that needs help/advice/tips if they decide to build their 420A for turbo

alright the colds coming fast and i dont have a working blower to supply me with heat/defrost. ive checked the fuses, replaced the blower motor and neither has worked....one day it was working perfect the next it wouldnt turn on...no idea why....turning the switch when the car is off or on i suppose turns on one of the fans on the rear of the radiator but does not activate the blower. i am not sure what could be wrong...
the room lamp light wont work either.....EDIT - FIXED (loose connection)
any ideas about either would be sweeeet , thanks

ok i drive a 96 elcipse rs, i believe i broke rod. i plan to rebuild the motor have it bored 20 over and increase the compresion ratio... not sure to what... any sugestions? and i would like any tips hints or parts that i should use.... now im no mechanic so me doing this by my self is out ill prob have to have ashop do most of it. i know how to do boltons, replace belts, and stuff like that... i know enough to were i dont have to go to a mechanic everytime something goes wrong... i have about 3000 limit on the rebuild... if anyone knows what parts to get that are and will help with engine performance... now im not looking to make it super fast just a little more than what it is now... i really want to put alot in the suspension cause i love curves and turns. lol but thats later on. right now its the engine... any advice will be highly aprecaited thank you... Hi, I am a brand new member.I just got my 97 Eclipse from my girlfriend.It has over 200,000 miles on it.She had it since brand new.So it is one owner and never had in an accident.She was going to trade in at the deler and they don't give her much.So I might buy it from her if I can fix it for not a lot of money.It has 420a engine with automatic transmission.I don't know anything about cars and I have a lot of question.Should I rebuild the engine or swap the engine?Which one is better and cheaper?If I want to swap how many option I have?Or What would you guys do?Thank you for your time.

When I first bought my car, it had a really f'd up engine. So, I was taking it out and notice the exhaust manifold was broken. While the internals were being revamped by a very trusted machinist, I decided to do some perusing on the internet and found a header. I put it on after I got the engine back in and all is well. Paint burned off like I expected and all. Now, I did a search on this forum for the header I have and there was one mention of it. The guy said his cracked at a weld. That's not really an issue for me because the header on this car has to be the easiest header I've ever removed or installed.
Useless info said and done, my question is:
It's a Heddman chikra header.
The guy on the forum said he paid $500 for his ("OldSchool", reply in the topic "ebay") I paid about $180 after shipping from the website.
Should I ditch this header? I have the mounts and everything all in place and everything seems g2g. Can anyone else speak on behalf of this particular header? I'd like to know.
It is just a work car, but I have a 50-mile commute each way, every day. It has to be reliable, ya know?

ok so i thought i needed a radiator but thinking i have a warped head cause she is drinking lots of water and running realy warm. (hot if i dont run the heater) im going to stay non turbo (i know i know) do to the fact i realy dont have the money to get it rebuilt and buy a good turbo. so im going probably with the 12.5 compression. just wanted some opinons and suggestion on where to buy to get the quality parts at good prices. looking at this right now.

alright i have a 99 Eclipse GS that I got a lil' over a week ago. and i have to say i absolutely love it!
it had been sitting for about 3 months, and it had an oil leak but we fixed it, i still see smoke every now any then but anyways
I'm getting 200 miles a tank. i used reg unleaded, then switched to premium to see if it would help any. well it didn't... its an auto BTW. this may be average but the guy i bought it from said it gets 28-30 mpg and i looked up an eclipse has a 15.9 gallon tank and that definitely didn't add up right, im getting around 12-13 mpg. so can anyone tell me what i can do to get better miles? i change the oil, oil filter, and valve gasket & added a quart of tranny fluid (cause it was a lil low) last week. thanks in advance!
edit: OD is always on, i never take it off.

For about the last 3 weeks, I've been hearing a rattling/knocking sound, The car starts perfectly nice and quiet but once I put it into Drive, the sound starts, if I put it in neutral sometimes it stops and sometimes it gets quiet all together. It's at its loudest from the 1000 to 2000 rpm range. I had the chance to put it on a ramp last night and I got underneath the car while running and I noticed that the sound seemed to be coming from around the area where the oil pan is, (its definetly louder underneath the car then on top with the hood open). I'm really hoping it has something to do with the exhaust because it was worked on about a week before the sound started (the area around the resonator was all corroded, and the car was excessively loud). After doing some searching around the forums it seems like most of u guys would say rod knock, but I would really like to hear what else it could be. Last year at about exactly this time my engine died on me (cylinder 4 had no compression whatsoever) and I put in a salvaged motor with 80,000 (It's run perfect and given me no problems since). The car has 140,100 so that means about 92,000 on the engine now. I have been broke ever since and I really cant afford a new engine or any work of that magnitude right now. So i'm praying its nothing major or I am completely F*cked

My washer squirters on my 99 Eclipse wont work. They have washer fluid in them, the blades wipe, but they dont squirt. I think the motor is out or somethng because it does not even try to squirt if you listen to it. Think it could be a fuse? or the actual motor? Thanks.

Hi guys got a 98 gs 2.0 with a 41te auto trans the car keeps blowing the 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment marked as motor fuse if I replace the fuse the car will start fine and run fine in park reverse and nuetral will also run in drive if motor has only run for a few minutes. if I drive a 1/4 mile it will blow fuse or if I put it in drive and brake tourqe it will blow the fuse. once it blows a fuse if I replace the fuse and start car it will run fine in park nuetral or reverse. put it in drive it drops dead like shuttin off a switch. my dad replaced the fuse with a circuit breaker for trouble shootin as fuses are 5.00 each also replaced range switch in trans swapped out trans module from my brothers gsx (1996) looked the same dont know if its compatable but it did not work anyway car has a 114 thousand, had a remote start took that of to illiminate that possibility any help would be great thanks Kaitlyn

So I got my computer in the other day and with some fresh silicon my car started right up and sounded great
However I had a bad oil leak coming from the oil pump area, so I did the whole process of re-sealing the pump to the block. Anyhow, after I got everything back together and started it up agian (I accidently left the inner timing cover off) the leak turned into a 3 foot stream of oil. I shut the engine down immediately and realized that the leak wasn't coming from the oil pump after all. It was coming from a hole in the block that is supposed to be sealed with a freeze plug (at least that's what it looks like in the pictures in the manual). When I got the block back from the machine shop they removed the plugs, but I ordered "A complete set" (4 plugs) and this one was left out.
I can't seem to find it anywhere, My buddy at Autozone gave me a handfull of small plugs (the hole is about 1/2' in diameter) and none of them fit right. Here's a pick of the block taken a long time ago and the hole which I have mistaken for an unused bolt hole from the hydrolic tensioner I replaced with the mechanical unit.
My questions is: What size plug is this? Is it a screw in, or press in? Where can I get one?
Plz. My baby is finally running, but it will eat itself if I leave it on for more than a few seconds. (Only started it those two times so far and won't untill leak is fixed)

First I want to start by saying that I am not the most knowledgeable person in the world on cars, and I am having this problem that I can't figure out.
I have a 1999 Eclipse RS and my clutch goes in/out fine and I can shift to every gear just fine, no problems. When I take off from a stoplight in 1st gear it sputters a bit before it decides that it wants to go. Every other gear is okay AS LONG AS I am gentle with the gas. You would never know there was an issue if you just pressed the gas in and gave it only as much as it needed to increase the speed. When I really smash on the gas, in ANY gear, the car JERKS really really bad, but still increases in speed.
I had a friend check my clutch fluid reservoir and apparently is was bone dry. I filled it up and drove the rest of the way home, but I did not notice any considerable difference. Does anyone have ANY suggestions? Could there possibly be air in the lines from having a dry reservoir and I need to bleed them? Do I need a new clutch? I'm really in dire straits and can't really afford a mechanic to look at the thing, so I'm playing the guess-and-check game right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated! If there is anything else I need to put on here just let me know as I will be checking back here often.

I just got my 98 GS a few months ago, and am a little upset with its performance.
I don't like having to wind it out every time I go from a standstill or up a hill. It's actually a little embarassing. I wish I would have looked into the GS-T/GSX a little more, but they are so hard to find non-convertible and not beat up.
Right now I'm all stock. Is it worth upgrading or a waste of money? I'm 16 with a limited budget of about $1,000 tops.
Should I get an exhaust system, header, cold air intake, etc...? I don't know much about cars, and I'd probably have to pay to have it done especially since I don't have anything to lift the car up more than a foot or two.
Any other suggestions for parts in my price range would be much appreciated. I would also like to know some respectable brands for each part if you think its worth the money.
What I'm really wondering is, am I going to notice a difference with these upgrades, or should I just put my money towards making the car look nicer, such as having the paint buffed, getting some wheels, and getting a nice in dash navigation/stereo.

I just recently baught a radiator from my friends shop, but it's for a 4g63 engine but i have the 420a N/T engine. this radi is a BEAST... but i'm concerned that it wont fit seeing how the main hose part is in the center and not towards the passenger side... is there any way possible i can work with it? i don't wanna say that this radi. was a waste of a buy.

ok so i just pulled a 420a from a 95 or 96 gs eclipse to put in my 95 rs, for some reason the oil pressure sending unit does not match the harness and i also can not get it to start up, has gas, spark, and good compression, timing is dead on but it will not start, at first it would pop back through the intake, we went 180 degrees on the crank and it pops through the exhaust but never even attempts to start up i am in desperate need of a ride and kinda new to eclipses

Well, I am a first time Mitsubishi owner and I am extremely happy with my purchase so far. I got the car for about $4000 and it runs very smooth. Although I do not know many things about tuning cars or upgrading them I hope this car will be a good starting point for me. I previously owned a 2000 hyundai elantra that was my first car. It was the worst car experience one could get from their first car. I know I will be much happier with this one. So far I have only put a new radio in it. I would like to first upgrade the sound system and work my way to other things. Hopefully the car being an automatic will not clash with any performance upgrades I might want for it.
Edit* Also what type of fuel should I be using, 87 made my check engine light come on so I'm thinkin 89 should get the best performance.

So I'm rather new to my 95 Talon Esi. I acquired the car riddled with codes and cleared all of them but this one, p1390. The car misfires above 3,000 RPM's. I was told the timing belt had been replaced recently so i looked into the camshaft positioning sensor. I took the sensor off and its covered in a layer of oil. I'm just wondering if this is normal. Could the layer of oil be disrupting the sensors ability to make correct readings causing my high RPM misfires? Or should I just get a new timing belt.
I'm not new to cars or working on them. I will say that I've never worked on a car that was timing belt driven. Last car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee that i beat to crap but ran her to 252,000 miles and she still ran smooth

I have a 420a Block and Head I wanna get rid of I was planing to build it but sold my RS to my friend, I got the motor from an old buddy of mines and I noticed the top of the pistons are stamped with .050 I'm assuming they are .050 over bore, its like new, but has no trans, no sensors no oil pan, no crank pulley, no valve cover or cam gears, its just the block,crank,stock .050 over piston and rod assembly, head, valves train, and cams, all in excellent condition i mic'D it and it all checks out. block painted black, its just wrapped up siting in my garage on a engine stand...oh and also no warpage checked with staight edge and feeler gauge..
Anyone looking to buy? pm offers and I could email you pics aswell,,
PS-when me and my friend were putting it back together he broke on of the compression rings so a new ring will be needed for one of the cyl.
THIS WILL BE PERFECT FOR SOME LOOKING TO DO A BUILD AND NOT PULL THE MOTOR OUT UNTIL YOUR READY FOR THE BIG SWAP, ESPECIALLY IF ITS UR ONLY DRIVER...

I have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse, automatic rs, 1.6L
A few weeks ago it would start slipping out of gear when i would be driving (almost throwing me thru the windshield!) and it wont shift, so i have to pull over and turn it off then turn it back on and it usually works okay for a few minutes then i have to do it all over again.
i went to AAMCO and they told me i need a new 'solenoid pack' i have no clue what this is, the error code was '41- low reverse solenoid circuit error'. the guy also pointed to the part (the only part attached to the trans on the outside of it)
i asked a few people and they said that this 'solenoid pack' sounds like a general word the guy gave me to throw me off so i couldnt go and get it fixed anywhere else, these people also said it sounds like the transmission control module. does this sound correct??
and also, i was researching the TCM, and i few people have said its located behind the dash.. the guy pointed to the part and it was really close to the front of the car..
please help!!! thank youu!!!

Hey all,
I'm trying to swap my old tranny that has a bad synchro and is grinding..was wondering what other transmission from other cars fit my 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse-manual trans (5 speed)..i've heard of dodge avenger but wanted to make sure..please respond..

i have a 97 rs i need a new clutch but will a clutch from a 2.0 turbo work in a non turbo car or dose a neon manual tranny fit into a 420a eclipse i think it dose but not 100% sure if ne one has ne input thanks or sites that will tell me

hey all,
i have a 420A engine and my transmission is leaking oil..it comes out of a small hole underneath the transmission..it seems like the hole was machined out and needs some sort of plug..am trying to weld it up..but wanted to know what the hole's purpose is as it seems like it has been there since the transmission was born..
