Hi guys
I am new to the forum, and new to the GTO/3000GT aswell...
just purchased the car..... finally have one now
Description of the Car:
1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT/GTO 3.0 Twin Turbo
4WD/4WS/Active Aero/Active Silencer (changed)/Traction Control/ABS/ECS/
and all the normal bits and bobs.
Mods:
HKS Turbo Gauge
HKS Sequential Dump Valve
HKS Map (i do not know what that means, dealer told me)
HKS Twin inlet Air Induction Filters
Apexi Air Flow Converter (dont undersatnd how to operate it)
Problem1: (please remember it used to run perfect when i got it 10 days ago)
my rev counter does not stay constant at 750 rpm. it drops down to 200 and then comes back up to 900-1200 rpm and then goes back to 750 rpm and then after 30 or 50 seconds does the same again......... but does not cut out.
noticeable when the car is at optimum tempreture. otherwise when sitting in the car it feels like a misfire or lite jerks every so often. now you can imagine the engine cycle and movement according to the revs....
i have ordered new sparkplugs and ignition cables waiting for the delivery.........
i cannot understand why would it just start happening out of no where......
_______________________________________________________________
Problem2 (SINCE DAY 1):
Is it normal to get the engine started you have to crank it 3 times.
first 2 times i cant start it untill i crank it for 4-6 seconds first crank and it starts.
however
if i crank it for 3 secs first time
then 3 secs second time
and then 2 secs third time and it STARTS at the third try...
______________________________________________________________
please help???
m3
P.S. will post a video very soon.

i am looking into purchasing a 3000gt. i found a good deal on one but i only want to buy it if it is an easy RHD conversion and JDM engine swap.
i have also found a JDM front clip of a 3000gt that i would purchase to do the conversion.
so is it like the old subaru imprezas where the RHD holes are already there?

Hey i just bought a 1991 3000GT SL. with about 96000 miles. It is my first car so im not too upset that its not a turbo- even though id be much happier if it was

.... but yeah reading your posts, a conversions it too costly and id be better off just trading in and buying a Turbo.
SO im gonna work on this car and be satisfied!.
it doesnt run right this second, i havent really got a good chance to look at it, been busy and what not. but driving it from the guys house i bought it from (2 blocks away) the car would seem to wanna stall.
were convinced it might be the converter, or the air filter? not sure.
Besides that all i need is minor repairs, and a new winsheild : | lol
i do want a new center council though

mines, not really intact, and someone slapped some shitty leather on it in an attempt to make it look better---FAIL might i add.
SO basically i got myself a project car, with no clue on what to do to this car

lol
ideas i do have, Make it look nice. I wanna paint it, probally sometime in the spring. i wanna make it Jet black with a metallic flake paint.... hows that sound??
Im gonna get myself a set of rims eventually, but i dont know what to look for, if i want them chrome, if i want them black, but i do know i dont want them white

im adding a system. whats a car without a system?.
uhhhhh
eventually add a new intake system?
Yeah other than that i think the cars stock-like i said i havent had a real good look at it...
i do need window and lock switches

the guy stole them ? wtf is he going to do with them...: | besides frustrate me
YEAH so if anyone has any suggestions, ideas....feel free and id appriciate the guidance and opinions!

Hi there guys
My 1991 Mitsubishi GTO TT's fan is on every 2minutes, is this normal?
I looked in the reservoir & it was well rusty,so i drained it & flushed it then filled it with fresh coolant & water but it is still quite rusty in colour, does the engine need to be running when you are flushing?also are there any bleed nipples on this engine?
Any help would be appreciated

________
TSE Michigan Road Trip/Picnic
TOUR SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN
September 20th
Over the last week or so a few friends of mine have been organizing a long spirited drive through Michigan to see some of what our beautiful state has to offer. In an effort to make this a really great event we are trying to have a caravan of at least 20 people, the more the merrier. The details are as follows:
TSE Michigan is a driving event that covers around 90 miles of Michigan roads between Milford, Brighton, Pickney, Ann Arbor, and Livonia. We cover the route in a spirited fashion, stopping once for a short break and ending at a parks area to have some pizza, wings, chips, and soda.
Meeting up will begin at 9am and at 11am we start driving.
-Starting in W. Bloomfield
The large public parking lot in front of the Gamestop, near the rear of the Meijer Lot
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.548...,0.004128&z=19-Ending at a picnic site in Livonia (Hines Road Parks)
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.343...,0.004128&z=19There are other parking lots in the area that we have planned as backup just in case this one is full or closed on the day of the event.
-All makes/models welcome
-Please RSVP if you intend on attending
-Food will be funded by the whole group. If we have a decent sized group everyone can pitch $5-7 and we should be able to get a bunch of pizza, chicken, soda, etc.
-Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

So as I posted under "sad site", my timing belt slipped while I was messing around under the hood - the ENGINE NOT RUNNING.... so ever 60K guide I read talks about lining up the timing marks and making sure that the cams don't move. So, my cams are moved... I'm no where near the timing marks.... how do I get my cams lined up and the crank lined up - I imagine I could mess up the valves even turning the engine manually ....

If the timing chain goes, doesn't that bend the valves?

Hi im new here and new to the 3000gt. i just got it in a trade a week or so ago. i traded my 94 camaro that i bought for 850 for it, the guy wanted 2800 for the mitsubishi but did a straight up trade. since having it iv noticed a few things. i know it needs a new engine mount on the front end. theres a few things im not sure about what to do. whenever i try to start it it wont even make any noise the first couple of times, then it will try the 4th or 5th time and finaly start. it idles around 700 rpms when it does, its also has a knock in the engine and im not sure where its comeing from. im new to all this and would really appreciate any ideas and help anyone could offer. Im Also wanting to mod it at some point and make it run and sound better if anyone has any ideas on what i should do that would be much appreciated as well. Also one other thing, whenever i drive it and hit a bump, i feel it major and the car seems to skip to the side some to. did i do right by tradeing for it

I think I damaged my e-brake cable this weekend when I parked my car. I pulled up with a little too much enthusiasm. It didn’t break off, but it feels funny now. The lever doesn’t go down loose, but it does go down. I have to pull it up a bit to fully engage.
What did I do? Is it going to be a pain to fix?

About a month ago I replaced my down-pipe (1995 NA). I had been driving around with the factory original - prior owner had it patched / welded.
(the cat was slightly welded to the rest of the exhaust system - both directions - that was a major pain when I repaired the post cat exhaust this spring)
So, I was sick of having a headache from the leaky down-pipe, and I scored a stainless steel / chrome downpipe on eBay for $75 w/shipping. (opted not to drop $750 at the dealer for another rust magnet).
I was really happy with the down-pipe. It fit perfect, and I've been saving on advil.
Last week I hit a pot-hole and heard a noise like a nut bouncing off a metal surface. Later that day, I had to bring my son 3 hours from home to pickup a car he scored on Craigs list. Half way there, the exhaust started getting louder and louder. 4 hours of driving later, I was virtually deaf.
What happed was the hanger just before the cat tore off, leaving a dime size hole in the pipe. (I guess that's what I get for spending only $75). So, I put a square I cut out of a coffee can over the hole, and put an exhaust clamp over that. Nice and quiet, and it doesn't look as bad as the description (coffee can and all)....
So my question is - is somthing else going to break if I drive with no support there? there is no hanger anymore.

Hello, I'm new to these vehicles and had a question. I have a 1994 GT SL with 5speed, 132000 miles. just had the heads rebuilt because they warped. My Brother in law hooked up the plug wires and hooked up #2 and #4 backwards. Anyway I had to lift the intake manifold, relocate the plug wires and put it back, now no start!? theres fuel pressure and spark. I take the plugs out and they are wet with fuel though. ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Trevor.

Hi Guys...and gals.
Hello from a new GTO owner

I 've just bought a 1993 GTO non turbo automatic. Pretty standard apart from a Blue Flame exhaust.
I have a feeling the car isn't performing to it's capabilities. The engine hardly exceeds 6500 rpm at full throttle. I know it's an automatic but I just feel it should be quicker than it is now. It runs very smooth though. Had a full service incl. new timing belt & tensioners etc 3000 miles ago. 83000 miles.
Any ideas?

So two weeks ago at 2:30am I stop at a stop sign and see some smoke rising up from under my hood. I pull into a hotel parking lot, open the hood and see that the smoke is coming from the approximate location of the water pump. So this last weekend me and a buddy put a new one in and a new timing belt as well. I followed Tema3S's walk through
http://team3s.com/60k.htm . Everything seems to be running fine now, but I am a bit paranoid since this was the first time either of us has dealt with a timing belt. Is there anything I need to keep an eye out for? If we were off by one tooth would it be a very noticeable thing?

My GTO automatic transmission is having a slight problem. Now I brought the car cheap because the transmission was faulty but the car drives fine. Here's what happens:-
All gear selections work, but you cannot go into reverse from P or N but if you go from Drive straight into reverse, it engages and works. In drive, the the gears select in the correct order and downshift correctly but the gearbox clunks from 3rd to 2nd and second to 1st, but if you go all the way up to fourth gear it then doesn't down shift at all and I get stuck in that gear all the time. If I stop the car and put it back into Park mode and switch off the ignition, when I start it up again it drives as normal from 1st upwards. Now I dont think the gearbox is knackered as it wont drive at all but it must be the selector or something thats broke cause like I said, the car drives fine apart from all that.
Any idea's or has anyone else suffered from the same issue?
Regards
Rob

So on my beautiful car - there is one item that didn't seem to work (red aero light on). 94 VR4. The active aero. I start pokin' around, and see the fuse has been removed. Okay - then I wonder why. Get under the front and see the active aero piece itself looks pretty chewed up in one area. Ok - so I find a new one a kid never installed and buy it for 60 bucks. Things are going good so far. Go to my local Autozone and by the 30 amp fuse. Put said fuse in and turn the key to accessory and voila - the red aero light on the instruments goes out with the AA button in the off position. I'm thinking wow - this may not be too bad.
Turn the AA button on, and I here a healthy noise up front, and a thump in the rear. Get out and the front attachment (the arm that connects to the control bar) for AA is all the way back (towards the engine) and the rear wing is full down (front of wing is pointing down towards the hatch). I think ok - it appears the system works. Go and turn the AA to off - and nothing happens, everything is stuck in that position - AND the damn red aero light comes on again. Shit, here we go again except things are stuck now in the present position, which is not a neutral position. Removed the fuse, nothing - everything is locked in position. Put the fuse back in and the aero light is still illuminated, and everything is still locked. Not positive - but I think everything is locked as if it was in going fast mode.
AAANNNNNYYYYY suggestions with this scenario??? I have not put the new AA piece back on - maybe I should have put it back on before I checked the system??? I don't know.
I should have just put the new piece on and called it good, but I hate having a red light on. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. And I know about the "simulator" thing at 3sx. I figure if your going to go to that trouble, why not just fix the thing properly.
Thanks guys/gals

I'm going to replace my plugs and wires soon. I have an after market air filter on there, in the process of de-catting it, and have a throttle body spacer. I was wondering what wires and plugs to get.
It's a 1993 Non-Turbo 3000gt. I want to get it a little faster, but I understand that it wouldn't get near the Twin Turbo models.
Plugs and WiresIs an10.2 MM wire too much for my car? Should I stick with an 8.5MM? All I've seen on 3SX are the 8.5s. But then I noticed a 10.2 on E-Bay.
I'll be honest, I don't fully understand the wire size in correspondence to more horsepower. I think it has something to do with a better burn, but not too sure.
Thanks for your time,
Eric Martindale.

hi guys, how hard it is to replace the rear power steering lines on top of the rear end on the 4WS ? being a 92, i know a few VR4 and R/T has the same problem, the lines just rustted out and leaks, looks like i will have to lower the rear end down by take the 3 bolts of the big bracket that holds the rear end up, that will give me more room to get to the lines right ?

OK, so I live in Arkansas and my guess is that the 3gt has poofed like a dinosaur in my state. I'm looking for an interior piece that comes off the driver side door at the very bottom. It's like a bolt on piece of carpet trim. I'm missing mine and i feel naked so if someone could help me locate this carpet trim, It would be so awesome. Thanks, B.
I also checked every salvage yard in a 50 mile radius. So this is like hunting for some lost treasure or something.

Would like your input on my planned first two phases of upgrades. I have a bone stock almost showroom condition 94 VR4. My stated goal is to initially work my way up to the 375-400HP range through tasteful upgrades. My goal is not to have something that can jump out of its socks from a dig, but something that will be an amazing touring car and a car that will enjoy zestful rides on mountain roads. I also love chrome and SS, so anywhere they can be utilized - it will be. All upgrades will be installed by my local performance/race shop.
Phase 1: Opening the exhaust system
- 3SX SS TT Downpipe + RT 3" Ultra Cat and Test Pipe
- DN Pre Cat Eliminators/Kit
- Custom 2-1/4" Intake Runners to the Turbos
- Hallman Boost Controller
Phase 2: Operning up the intercooler system
- Dejon Side Mount Intercooler + Pipes Kit
- Greddy RS recirc BOV
Also, I have no problems looking at other manufacturers for these items. I am interested in quality parts from quality manufacturers. You may pay a little more, but a known entity with a solid performance history adds value to our vehicles. At some point because of the initial quality of this vehicle - I would like to get involved with entering it in car shows.
Anyway - your thoughts and input is greatly appreciated.

When i got the car a week ago the problem wasn't there but one night i park and in the morn when i go to drive it i noticed its really hard to put it into gear. I push the clutch all the way in but going into 5th and 6th especially is very hard. Reverse is even harder u really have to push it in hard and to get out of reverse you have to really pull that thing out. It almost seems like theres something binding within the linkage im not sure though. The clutch fluid was really dirty so i bleed the fluid with fresh new fluid but still the problem was there.. I dont feel slipping or anything just all in the shifter its really rough. mainly going to the right direction. no signs of leaking from the master.
that was a week ago. Recently its a little smoother going into gear but reverse still really rough and getting out of all gears it feels like theres binding going back to neutral like its rubbin up on something... sometimes when i go to 2nd and 3rd its not smooth feels like its grindin or something is rubbin. then when i put it in gear ill hear a grind for a slipt second because the gear wont go in smooth.
I took it to a tech and he noticed my clutch pedal was really hard to push down and he thought maybe the clutch pressure plate was bad. but as for the shifting he think theres something up in the linkage..any ideas?
year: 98
make: mitsu
model: 3000gt vr4
mileage:78K
trans type:6spd
recent maintenance: vaccum hose replaced by prev owner. and i bleed the clutch fluid
recent modifications: k&n intake + hks sqv bov

I'm guessing i need an adapter and a filter but i'm not looking to spend $200. Auto zone has filters and adapter's but i'm sure they wont work. Can someone help me do this with just a new filter? I'm new here and I was wanting to see if any of you had some advice for me. I have a 95 3000GT DOHC Automatic. I want to do anything I can to my car but I'm on a budget and shes an auto. Other than some rims and a little audio work, shes stock. I recently removed the cat and replaced with 2.25 pipe. I'm also looking into a ground wire kit. I'm also looking into a new ignition coil but do I just need one ignition coil? I'm open to any suggestions. Remember I'm not dropping much money in at one time so the most bang for my buck is ideal. Thanks.

I'm looking to do a couple of minor mods to my 94 VR4 - it's 100% stock right now. I've read a couple of different things regarding the BOV. Some said the pre 1995's had a 1g BOV that was more than sufficient for a mostly stock set-up and the 1995 and up had a 2g, and doing any mods that increased HP would require a new BOV.
I want to keep my car primarily stock. I'm putting on an air intake, and giving some thought to a higher performing plenum and Y pipe, both for a little increase in performance - plus the "look" of chrome.
The plenum change would be to one that would allow access to the back plugs. Have any of you done this? Is it worth it? Source for the proper plenum to accomplish this?
With those in mind, do I need to be concerned about changing the stock BOV?
Thanks for your help.

All right guys I have decided that I am going to be joining the FWD TT Crowd. Ill be turning my 3000 GT SL into a 3000GT SLuTT The "u" is for Uber cool
I was asked when I made my decision, and well it all happened last week. I stumbled upon some manifolds for cheap (36 shipped) and decided if I won them I was converting. So I forgot all about them and lost to an S2000 got home read my email and it was final. I am giving my self about 11 months to get all the part I will need. See next post for the ongoing list.
So come November of 2008 I will be tearing into my motor and should have it up and running by spring.
Also, if you guys have any ideas or question let me know. I'll take all suggestions and I'll try my best to answer all questions.

Been looking litterally since I bought my SL for a clean VR4. Well, I met with success on lucky #7. Purchased yesterday one owner, 80,000 mile 1994 Pearl White w/black leather interior 6 speed. Gentleman was 60, so needless to say it was bone stock, which to me is a good thing. 9/10 exterior 9/10 interior 9/10 mechanically and maintenance records. Only one person has driven it, and only one dealership has ever worked on it. I found it a 1,000 miles from home and spent yesterday and today bringing my new baby home. What an amazing ride she is. After driving others, I had no idea how smooth the Getrag 6 speed could be - absolutely amazing.
Will post pictures in the next day or so - I'm too tired to do it now. And don't ask what I paid for it - you'd never believe me.

Well, I just sold my 94' SL in order to buy a VR4. Fixed a bunch of little things and learned alot for the whole month I had it and in the end broke even.
Knowing what I know about VR4's and their complexity of parts and systems, and still being a bit of a novice - I'm a bit intimidated/challenged on what to look for. I want to find a pretty stock variety, and have looked at 2 in my area that were absolute POS's. I'm hoping to find a clean 2nd gen, but those seem to be towards the max of my price range, and I can't afford to get bit in the ass immediately after a purchase for something major.
When I find one that seems okay, what are some of your suggestions on items to be keenly aware of - or wary about - when inspecting a VR4 for possible purchase???
I looked back a couple of pages as I'm sure this has been asked and couldn't find anything. I appreciate your experienced input on this.
