I was looking at an 86 corolla, and had an idea. How popular do you think a RWD 6g Galant would have been? Could mitsubishi have created a drift car comparable to the AE86 if they had simply made the 6g galant RWD?

So my self and my uncle who's in his mid 30's decided to go test drive some cars for him last night. He's looking at a new car and we narrowed it down to the BMW 535, the Infiniti M45, and the Mercedes Benz E class.
I talked him out of the Benz because yes, they look good and they are nice driving cars, but they are always in the shop with electrical issues. Plus the dealerships are very customer orientated but have gone to far in my opinion. I mean they basically shoved an espresso down my throat and I was barely in the building. Their facility is nice but I have had problems with their techs and receptionists being rude.
Now the car. The outside is beautiful, but the inside was lacking right from when I touched the steering wheel I felt like I was grabbing a 1988 Honda steering wheel. Thats as far as my test drive got because I was fed up and really wasn't interested in the car.
On to Infiniti.
Our sales guy was awesome, but he had a problem with eye contact. But he new his stuff and building was nice, a little dated but still nicer then some other dealerships out there.
The M45 is a nice car. I am not crazy about the exterior it looks a little bloated and I prefer the four door G35 over the M but once you sit in it you feel like your on a sofa. The seats were plush and comfortable. The dash is huge and full of buttons and they give you a CD-rom tutorial on it, and the Navigational system is easy to read. and you can change it from white face to black face. so that it doesn't bother you at night.
The drive. Well it has a 325 hp V8. With all wheel drive and nearly 4200 pounds I was surprised this thing moved like it did. The first thing I noticed was a beeping which was the lane departure warning, I quickly turned that off. For its weight this car drove tighter then I expected but it just felt like a lowered SUV. You felt the weight and you knew it was there. Now something I didn't expect was the amazing turning radius, I drove around in circles amazed at this. I think its like 37 feet.
Like I stated earlier I felt like I was driving my couch.
Now the BMW 535i. This car is beautiful inside and out. The exterior is perfect. The interior fits like a glove. I sat down and immediately I knew this was the car I want. The seats fit like a glove. The dash is laid out so nothing is out of view but in a way so that nothing bothers you while driving at night. Something that Ryan (sales) pointed out was the ambient lighting. There is a small amber light that illuminates the shifter and one that hits the back of the center console.
Now I need to explain, any light that is on in the car at night bothers me, I have my dash turned way down, I throw a small towel over my after market headunit. light just bothers me. I didn't notice it. It truly is awesome. And when I got into my car it felt so dark. Totally weird totally awesome. And unlike the Benz when I grabbed the steering wheel I was greeted with maybe an inch and half of thick control over a 3600 pound twin turbo charged BMW.
Once I started driving it it was night and day. As with the Infiniti I felt like I was sitting on the car controlling it from a far I felt like I was actually in the car. I felt as connected to the road as if I was in my 3000GT but with out the bone jarring stiffness in the suspension. I got on it off the line at a light, and wasn't even at full throttle and it started to break loose near the top of the gear. Oh yeah it was an auto. At 1400 RPMs it has 300 FT/LBS of torque. The brakes are great.
You drive the BMW where as you just happened to be telling the Infiniti what to do from some big sofa.
Also, I know for a fact that on the lease everything but the tires are covered for free by the dealership. Brakes, lights, motor.
Now I just need $56,000.

I have a 1986 ford ranger with a mitsubishi 2.3 turbo diesel thats has jumped time. The only damage is the rocker shaft and a couple of cam holddown caps. These bolt down over the cam and the rocker shaft bolts down on top of the caps. I have found a new rocker shaft but cannot find the cam caps. Does anyone know where I could buy any? The engine code is 4d55t.
Thanks

Hi, my cousin has a 1995 Opel Astra. Everything is perfect in it except one thing, the digital clock in the dashboard.
The clock is working fine, and the time changes, and its light turns on when the car lights are on, but the problem is that u cannot set it.
There is an hour button and a minute button, but they do not work.
Any suggestions.
Is there a way one could reset the clock using the buttons or is the problem from the buttons?

QUOTE
Across the red dirt of the central Australian desert, straight through a high-security military zone surrounded by unforgiving terrain, a missile blasted by, a blur of colour followed by the sweet sound of a wailing V8 engine. What was going on? It was a Guinness World Record attempt, of course – this time for the world's fastest production pick-up truck or, as the Aussies call it, the world's fastest production ute (pronounced 'yoot').
A one kilometre strip had been measured out along a straight, but bumpy, stretch of narrow road through the Woomera Prohibited Area, 500 km north of Adelaide in South Australia. The car, a VZ HSV Maloo R8, boasted a six-litre, V8 LS2 engine pumping out 297 kW at 6000 RPM. Having rolled off the production line in April this year, this muscle car was up for a challenge.
The driver was Mark Skaife, one of Australia's most legendary race car drivers and three-time Australian Touring Car champion. The previous record stood at 248.783km/hr and, for a man about to drive a lot faster than that, Skaife seemed mighty relaxed.
The first flying kilometre, into the wind, was timed at an average of 165.11 mph (265.72 km/h). The second run, in the opposite direction, averaged 172.22 mph (277.16 km/h). The record was smashed – both runs came to an average of 168.66 mph (271.44 km/h). Congratulations to the team at Australia's HSV!

Ok.....I drive a 98' eclipse GS with no mods, but it gets up and goes just fine for me. I've been thinking yeah, I'm going to get a turbo charger, do some intake, build up the internals, etc. Well last night a buddy of mine gave me a ride in his 05' WRX Sti....I'm thinking forget the eclipse, i'm selling it and getting into an Sti ASAP!!! His car is completley stock except for an intake...it was ungodly fast!! He said he drives the **** out of it and so far it has been "bullet proof". For any of you who haven't driven/riden in an Sti i suggest you go test drive one or something, it'll make your nipples perk up!!

Does anyone know anything about changing the head on a 1996 Eagle Talon ESi w/2.0 engine? (If all that information matters?) And the timing belt- how do you change that? I know I could buy a repair manual but I'd rather not spend anymore money.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
Well I thought this might come in handy here. I've done this conversion before, and I thought it may come in handy for others
So, to begin with, if you own an RB20DE/E powered Cefiro/Skyline/Laurel, the conversion is pretty straight foward.
MANUAL CONVERSION: First off, after removing the Auto Trans (and all corresponding parts), you'll need to remove the 3 bolts that hold the "foot E-brake" in place. Once this is done, you can bin it. next step, remove the "foot e-brake" release lever (and remove its mount by drilling out the spot welds), and source yourself a handbrake setup from either an R32 Skyline, or a Factory Manual Cefiro/Laurel (pretty hard to find these days though). Once you've done that, you'll need to find where the handbrake lever would go: this is pretty straight foward, as you can basically tell just by looking at the trans tunnel where this should go, not very hard really. With the handbrake cable, everyone has had different experiences in their cars, but I was fourtunate enough to find that my rear handbrake cable could be adjusted, and it linked straight upto the handbrake

. If you've gotten this far, then CONGRATULATIONS!! you've just converted your handbrake.
Now for the fun part, once you've removed the torque converter and flexi plate from your engine, BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER, you'll need to remove the auto spigot bush which is located at the end of your crank (there are several ways you can do this I could explain it, but you'll be better off finding out what suits you really). Once you've done that, you need to go to your local Nissan dealer and score yourself a new spigot bush (these retail for about NZD$10.00), when you're putting your new Spigot bush in, be careful not to bang it around too much, as its only made of brass, so...a hammer is out of the question

.
Now bolt up the flywheel, clutch and all that stuff, and wack your gearbox up (a common choice is the RB20DET gearbox out of the R32 GTS-t). You'll need a Manual S13 Silvia Gearbox Crossmember, as these bolt up perfectly to the Cefiro/Laurel chassis. If you can get your hands on an R32 Skyline Driveshaft (just the front part), then you're away - bolt it up and you're done. If not, you'll have to take the front half of your auto driveshaft in, along with an R32 or VL commodore Driveshaft yoke, and get you're driveshaft legthened it suit. Once you've done this, you now have a manual driveshaft, since the chances of you finding a manual cefiro one are near impossible.
Next is the clutch pedal. You'll need to get a clutch pedal from an R32 Skyline (these bolt straight up) however, you can use an S13/U13 clutch pedal aswell, but they will require a slight modification. remember where your "foot e-brake" was sitting?? well thats where you're clutch pedal is going to go. Once you've done that, go and get an R32 Skyline clutch master cylinder, and clutch line, and you're Sorted.
Now go to start it, and "damit the bloody thing aint going!!". what you'll need to do, is find the plug with 2 wires coming out of it (this plug is on the side of the fusebox in the engine bay), once you've located that, join the 2 wires together. If you've done everything correctly, it will start. YOU ARE NOW MANUAL!! It getting better isn't it??

ENGINE CONVERSION: time for some grunt. If your Cefiro or Laurel is RB20DE powered, this will be simple. Take you're engine out, drop in the RB20DET that you sourced from an R32 Skyline, preferebly with a loom (it will bolt upto your engine mounts), run your loom into the passengers footwell (taking off the left front guard will make this easier), and plug your ECU up. You'll also find 4 - 5 plugs for the dash, and you'll find they plug up, and you're done already!!.
If you only have the engine without the loom, you can use your DE loom on your new engine. Now, on your cefiro loom, you'll notice that come plugs are square, and the Skyline plugs are round, theres a few plugs that have to be changed (computer temp sensor, crank angle sensor, knock sensor, oil pressure sensor, ignitor pack, TPS switch, and bot idel up valves) sounds harder than it is really. Just make sure to put the wires back in their corresponding locations (i.e: if you pulled a wire out of the left side of a cefiro plug, be sure that you put it back in the left side of your skyline new plug).
If you're not as lucky as some, and you're powered by the mighty RB20E, then you'll need you get hold of a DE cefiro dash loom and you're sorted (this is where getting an engine with a loom will come in handy, because if you don't, you'll have to change the dash loom, AND try and get hole of either an RB20DE loom (which will need modifying - as above), or an R32 RB20DET loom.
Once you've gotten this far, all you'll need to do is plumb up you're Front Mounted Intercooler, and you're done. Note - The factory FMIC on skylines have about a 2psi pressure drop, so try and get yourself an Aftermarket one as soon as possible...After all you only have about 7 pounds of boost, so you cant afford to lose 2 of the pounds can ya?

Now, since you're engine and box are in and running, go and score yourself some S13 coilovers, and whatever ajustable arms you want, go for a cert...
If you've done all this, then GOOD ON YA!! YOU'RE NOW HAVE A TURBO MANUAL CEFIRO/LAUREL
I'll try and answer any questions people may have.
regards

im searching for a replacement car since my old galant is no longer usable

ive been looking for an old eclipse, or something of that sort. havnt had much success there so far, but i have found some other stuff. firstly, a 1993 infinity q45 and a 1995 subaru legacy 2wd sedan. has anyone heard anything good or bad about either of these vehicles? im leaning towards the q45 with its 278hp v8, but im pretty sure my insurance on that would suck. my budget is $2000 to find a new car, and not a cent over that, and i found both of these for about 1500 each. i was kind of suspicious, the q45 retailed new for around 50k, so 1.5k now seems pretty cheap. but what do i know?
any other suggestions for good used cars under 2k would be helpful. im not looking for an american car, and i dont want a truck, suv, or van. ideally, a sporty coup would be best, but a sporty sedan would work just as well.

so i was over at my friends house, and he showed me a ford Thunderbird, either a 72 or a 73, that his grand parents had owned since it was new. Aside from being dirty, its in great shape, only has 13k miles on it(!) and a new starter in 91. unfortunately, it doesnt start. We tried starting it, but we didnt even get a click from the ignition. so we jumped the battery, and we got a click and an electrical hum from the engine when we turned the key, but nothing else. anyone know what the problem might be?

I've got an 1983 Dodge Challenger, great car, unfortunately when I got it there was a valve blown through the side of the block and unfortunately I live in northern canada and am having trouble trying to replace the engine. However one of the questions that I have is, I know that i'm able to use some of the other engines availible, yet which model types where they. as well as does anyone know if the motor in the Eagle Talon would fit in. I haven't mesured it, yet i'd like to try and keep the G54B tranny because is was rebuilt like 1000km before the guy threw the valve. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, thx.

I own a 1979 challener with 35,000 miles on it. the car sat for 14 years in a barn( no joke) the engine runs fairly well but the internals are just about shot and its going to go BOOM soon. I looked under the hood and it is cavernous!! in there. Did chrysler have the engine compartment engineered to accept a V8?,the world wonders.I did some quick measurements between the strut towers and so forth and discovered that a 318V8 will fit in there nicely.Even better a strong V6 would do the trick.Has anyone considered such a swap and if so what problems were encountered.

now for some fun brainstorming.
My occupation leads me to the most interesting places in the outback. At the rear of a trucking yard in East Tamaki industrial area (fenced-off ofcourse) there stood two lonely ex-army Unimog's chassis and cab. They're unregistered, but oh-boy, my imagination was unstopable with possibilties.
the type-2 Mercedes Unimog was (and still is) NZ Army's favorite all terrain 4x4. Only a few remain in relatively sound condition.
These two I spotted would make 4-wheel drive enthusiast happy, provided that we can get a VIN and re-registered as a classic truck.

Taken from autoexpress.co.uk
Finally, Auto Express can officially reveal the future for Subaru! Although we were the first magazine to break the news on bold plans for a hatch to replace the Impreza (issue 853), not until now has the sheer scale of the model's reinvention become apparent.
While the hatchback's intro-duction has shocked fans of the marque, it's only part of a radical series of upgrades which are designed to push the firm's best-selling model back to the top of its class. Quite simply, the fresh Impreza is one of the most daring cars of the year - and one which represents a dramatic change of direction for the firm...
The newcomer, due in mid-2007, also looks certain to represent the most extreme evolution yet of Subaru's now-familiar design direc- tion. Christened the B5, it will be unveiled at this month's Tokyo Motor Show, and features the firm's aeroplane-shaped grille, a clamshell rear hatch and chiselled flanks.
It is made even more distinctive by its upswept door styling, while inside are four generously sized chairs swathed in daring colours, plus a practical boot. In a nod to the tradition of the Impreza STi, the rev counter is mounted in the centre of the dash, although it now contains a digital speedo just like in the Porsche 911. The motivation behind the change is Subaru's desire to shift upmarket; insiders say matching Audi's reputation for build quality, performance and quality is the ultimate target. But, as we've already reported, the radical chan-ges don't end with the styling.
Under the newcomer's distinctive bodywork, huge upgrades are being made to the powertrain, too. Although the Subaru will continue to use a turbocharged evolution of the firm's famous flat-four motor, the arrangement is being given a futuristic twist with an innovative hybrid system - the first designed to work with a turbo.
Officially referred to as a new Turbo Parallel Hybrid (TPH), the 2.0-litre boxer turbo-based set-up is expected to produce more than 300bhp - nearly 30bhp more than the standard Impreza STi which is available today. But as well as offering masses of power high in the rev range, the system will boost bottom-end torque considerably, while enhancing fuel economy and reducing CO2 emission levels at the same time.
The B5 will no doubt feature Subaru's usual superb handling and performance. But it's interesting to note that the concept pays tribute to the firm's rally heritage, sitting 200mm off the ground and wearing tyres with tread shaped to offer all-terrain capability.[attachmentid=1318][attachmentid=1319][attachmentid=1320]

Saw a BMW 535d (actually below 3000cc) today and boy, did that thing move!
272bhp and a monumental 413ft/lbs of torque from an oil-burner?
Sheesh!
I could not believe the 'd' on the back of that thing!
