I started hearing a noise in my '06 with 78k today. At first I thought it sounded like a rattling fan, but it still made the noise after turning the fan and AC completely off. I realized that I only heard the noise when pushing the gas pedal and if the car was moving. The sound is on the passenger side in the engine compartment or around the passenger's feet. The sound is like a rattling fan or I thought gas was squirting out against something when hitting the gas pedal, but there's no smell of gas and couldn't duplicate the sound with the car stopped and the hood up.
Any thoughts?

Hello. I have a 2004 Endeavor. Since like 4 or 6 months I'm having problems with the Liftgate & Glass Hatch. Sometimes it will open, but most of the times when I unlock all the car, only doors will open, and not the hatch or liftgate will open. It is very weird because sometimes will open, and sometimes not. I have not idea what should I do, please help me. thanks

Getting ready for 60k tune up but trying to find the best deal online otherwise will have to cut my loses and head to the only dealer in my area. Does anyone know the parts number for OEM Diamond ATF SP III? How about the transfer case oil GL-5 SAE 90? I know I will needing about 10 or more quarts (12 to be safe) for a complete tranny flush and about 2 quarts for gear oil.

For all those folks who have been asking about the use of an Ipod with the factory installation if you visit Mitsu's website you will see that there is now an adapter available for the Endeavor!
I have one on order for my 04 LS and will update once it arrives....

At 19,000+ miles on a 2004 Endeavor AWD (Mfr. Date 4/2003), I began getting a "whirring" sound from (I think) the drive train. Definitely not a belt whine, and doesn't seem to be a wheel or tire noise since it sounds the same on both sides. I followed the earlier thread on this issue that indicated possibly failing propeller shaft bearings or a rear diff problem. If any of you mechanics out there (like you, manybrews), have any further information or TSB's related to this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Am taking the car to the dealer day after tommorrow. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
My 2004 AWD Endeavor has 70K miles on it. I just had timing belt and water pump replaced as preventative. The mechanic suggested that I change the oxygen sensors. He told me he would do them all for one hour labor.
A few questions:
1. How many are there? 2 or 4
2. Is it easy enough to replace them myself (and if so how) or for 1 hour labor ($75) just let him do it?
3. Should I replace them all or wait until the onboard computer tells me to replace?
4. Should I go OEM or is after market fine on these parts (any suggestions?)?
Please advise.
Thanks!

Hi
My wife's 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor LS V6 - 3.8L, all of a sudden started to make a loud lifter (lash adjuster) noise. So I took off the Oil filler cap and there was no oil coming out of the rocker arms, ones i could see through the hole. So i added some seafoam to the oil and let it idle for 30 min, then the oil stated to squirt from the rocker arms and it started to sound better. I then changed the oil, and it was fine for about 4 days. Butt now its back to making a loud clattering sound like a diesel.
I tried some more seafoam and then changed the oil again, butt its still very loud. I bought a oil pressure gauge, it read 35psi at idle and 80psi revved up.
My wife said it was 2 quarts low when it started making noise, she put 2 quarts in it before she brought it to me to look at .
I've searched around on the internet and it seems that the lash adjusters get clogged up? it seems like there is no oil coming through them.
I would appreciate any help, Thanks

I have had my 04 Endeavor XLS for almost a year and I have noticed that during strenuous driving (up passes, or accellarating hard) that when I park the vehicle and get out I notice an odd smell. Its kind of hard to explain, its almost like burning rubber or burning dust or oil or something. It only has 60K miles on it. I rarely drive it hard or up passes and under normal highway or city driving with light to moderate work on the engine I don't notice this. I have owned many trucks, cars, vans, SUV's, 17 to be exact and I have never noticed a smell like this before. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might look at??

Hello. I'm new at the forum. I recently purchased a 2004 Endeavor in great condition. The previous owner told me that he changed the back bumper cover with the endeavor new model. I am wondering if I can change the front bumper of my 2004 endeavor (the one with the square in the fog lights area) with the 2006+ bumper (with circle in foglights area) and the OEM Grille. Thank you very much, and Sorry for my English, I am from Puerto Rico.
These are the pics for the different year models:

New to the forum and new Ende owner. I owned a 2000 Eclipse GT once upon a time but haven't been in the brand for quite some time. I know that search is my friend, but after reading about 5 threads on this topic I got a headache.
I have an '08 SE and at speeds of 60+, there is a nearly unbearable wind noise emanating from both the driver & passenger side triangle windows (technical term?) at the edges of the dash. I read a thread from a awhile back that commented that the Ende was one of the quietest SUV's in regards to interior noise. I'm thinking no. However, could this be a sealing issue with those small windows that is fixable? Or, I've noticed the design of those enormous side mirrors lends itself to air turbulence. Design flaw so live with it? We travel a lot, so I don’t see me keeping this vehicle if I can’t have a conversation with my family without having to shout.
...and believe me, I know wind noise...I've owned two Subies.
Thoughts or answers?

Has anyone had their transmission replaced/repaired? If so, what where the issues? Looking for some background/history that might lead to a solution to my 2004 XLS AWD (39,000 miles) not shifting as smooth as it used to. Had the transmission flush & fill done, the propeller shaft replacement TSB done and the shift points reset. Thanks. Nick.

Hi,
I am new to this forum, but am delighted to have a place to go and get helpful advice on how to fix problems!
Yesterday morning, while driving to work, the car ran very well and the radio/ CD player was functioning. I stopped, as ususal, at our local version of Starbuck's and when I started the car again, NO RADIO, NO CD! The center screen monitor showed ambient temp, time, ac, and direction of travel just fine. There was a "COM ERROR" message, where the radio status is normally displayed.
I turned the car off and on several times... hoping the system would correct/ default/ re-boot... but again, NOTHING!
I found this forum on-line and have been awaiting permission to post. I have a 2004 Endeavor w/ nearly 75K
* Later in the day when I left work, the radio/CD player worked just fine, but later after stopping for about an hour at another venue, the same thing happened... NO radio/CD.
This morning, when I left for the office, everything was fine again, although I didn't stop for coffee.
Any suggestions, comments or advice would be appreciated?
Thanks!
Rick

Hello all I'm a new user and I have a question. I recently purchased a 2010 Mits Endeavor back in April of 2010. I just hit 4k miles on it and I noticed that when I hit speeds over 60 to 70 mph I hear a strange noise like a spring is pulling apart. I do not hear it all the time but I have heard it 3 times already intermittently. I have read the threads throughout the forum but the similar issues were dealing with early models of Endeavors. Could this be the same issues or related to the issues states throughout the treads? Should I take in into the dealer to have them look at it? I have the feeling if I take it in the problem will not duplicate. Any advise out there?
2. Are there any retractable cargo covers out there? If so what's the price range and website? So far I can only locate the cargo covers that fold back and the dealer is charging $92 and one aftermarket site is charging $70 but it is of a folding type cover. Please advise anyone. Thanks

For some time now I have been experiencing what I describe as 'hard downshifts'. Approximately 6 times over the past couple of months, while coasting to a light or intersection around 20 miles per hour or so and while driving under 10 minutes or so, my Endeavor (2004 XLS AWD with 40K) will downshift so hard it almost tosses us through the windshield. Any ideas or suggestions? I am currently waiting for a new prop shaft to arrive and had the 2-3 shift flare TSB down about 2 years ago. Thanks.

Hi all. Can anyone tell me the type/model number/etc. of the transmission used in my 2004 XLS AWD Endeavor? I am trying to research why I have hard downshifts and shift flares even after having the 2-3 shift flare TSB done. Also, I am waiting for a new propellor shaft to arrive at the dealers for that TSB also. Maybe valve body or solenoid issue? Any suggestions are appreciated. Oh yeah, it has 39,000 miles on it. Thanks.

HI All, hoping you can help with some photos or a web link.
The mistusbishipartspeople.com site sells side steps (running boards) for my 05 endeavor in black and in titanium.
http://mitsubishipartspeople.com/SearchPro...desc=Side+StepsI would think that titanium is a glossy gunmetal color, but I don't want to chance it. Can anyone direct me to a site or photo showing the product. My rig color is called mineral beige pearl or to a commoner like me brownish grey. Need to see what "titanium" side steps would look like.
My first post here, but have found much help already in other posts. Thank you all.

I was cleaning my car in my driveway with the radio on. The CD started acting funny and then the controls wouldn't respond. For a little bit I got a COMM ERR or similar code below the clock. Clock works, air fan works (can change speeds etc...). I was able to eject the CD.
Now with the key out, the steering wheel isn't locked. I put the key in and can't get the shifter out of park and the car won't start. WTF???? I can't even clean my car???
I'm 99% sure I had the shift interlock recall done a long time ago.
Any ideas?????

A few months ago I bought a 2004 Endeavor without a manual and I've been very happy with it, but the lack of a manual has me scratching my head over some issues.
We have a key fob with three buttons. Top-left is lock, top-right is unlock. What is the button below these? Mine has no description and appears to do nothing.
Every now and again we set the alarm accidentally which causes the car to beep repeatedly on lock and unlock. After a while we accidentally disable the alarm again. What are we doing to cause this? The fact that the alarm auto-arms in an unlocked car after two minutes of shutting the door is very annoying, in my view. Especially if you're just filling it with fuel and your family are inside at the time.
Thanks for any help.

We have a 2004 Endeavor and it gets parked on a slight incline. Yesterday it would not shift out of Park at all. Only after we had someone push the vehicle forward with their own vehicle were we able to move it out of park. (the weight of the vehicle wasn't against the front wheels then)
We then turned it around so it was facing down the incline and it shifted out of park fine later.
What can be the cause of this?
Thank you!!

As a part of the "30.000 mi" service my dealer wants to change the tranny fluid among other things. Is that supposed to be done at this mileage? Sounds kinda soon, but I don't really know. My Endeavor is 2007 AWD LS.
Also, they did mention some kind of differential service before, but when I talked to them today they never confirmed that even though I asked specifically about that.
So, what services are actually recommended at 30k by Mitsubishi? The dealer recommendation seems like cover all type of thing that's why I do not trust it 100%.
Btw, my owners manual doesn't seem to have any kind of service schedule. Is that a separate book? If it is I wonder if it's available online.
Thank you.

Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2004 Endeavor from a private seller here in Ohio. It was $7,000 with 80k miles. I did not know if I would like it because I was just about to get a 325i BMW, but as soon as I drove the endeavor I knew I loved it and had to have it. I love the way it drives and the power that it has. This is my first SUV and I have been driving about 10 years. I can't believe how well it does in the snow!
Small problem though (hopefully). I have had it for a month now and I started getting this Knocking or almost like a popping sound when I apply the brakes hard from 25 miles per hour and below. It is from the back of the vehicle. Like if I am coming up to a stop light going about 35 then it changes to red, then when I hit the brakes moderately hard from 20-25 mph and below I get the sound. It is only when braking kind of hard so I hope it is brake related. It does not happen when I gently brake and ease up to a light. Any ideas on what it could be? Brake Caliper? Suspension? Drive shaft? Universal joint?
I am hoping that the Crazy Drunk Guy can help me on this, or someone else can.

How do I change the fluid on it? More specifically where is the fill plug/fill bolt. The only thing I have found searching on line is a post from Many Brews from a few years ago. He had said there is a 18mm bolt halfway up. I have located one on the bottom that is obviously the drain plug but the only other bolt I can find on the side is one that is only a THIRD of the way up not even half way, and it is about 22 or so MM, not even close to 18.
Is this the fluid fill plug?
How could it be because it is only a third of the way up. I would think that it would have to be at least half way full of fluid, not less than a third am I correct?
Has anyone changed the differential fluid on their 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor?
Thanks.

I bought a 2004 Endeavor with 85000 miles. I am not sure if the transmission fluid has EVER been changed so I am unsure if I should change it at this point. I have hear that once you change fluid at high miles it really messes up the transmission so I am curious as to what other Endeavor owners say.
A side note and may be related. For the last couple of weeks I have noticed that whenever I am on the road and traveling say 35-65 miles per hour and go to pass someone, when I step on the gas and the car goes to downshift it starts to downshift then hesitates DRASTICALLY like it is wanting to downshift but cant. If I do not push hard on the gas it will downshift with no problems. Would a fluid change help the transmission? Any ideas what could be causing this? It just won't downshift when pushed hard. I am not abusing it, but I want to know what I could do to fix this. Anyone else have a similar problem?

So I have an 04 Endeavor LS AWD that has been pretty bullet-proof for the last 3 years, except for a propeller shaft replacement right after we bought it. Anyway, within the last month, it has developed a vibration between 60 and about 80 mph, and only when you accelerate. Take your foot off the gas, vibration goes away. I can feel it through the steering wheel and in the floor, and the harder you accelerate, the more violent the vibration. I have taken it to 2 shops, the first telling me there was nothing "visibly" wrong underneath, and that it was possibly a "torque converter shudder" and the second telling me I likely had bad front axle shaft(s). When I asked how to be sure it was the axle shafts, I was told the only way to tell was to replace them and see. So I checked, and Endeavor axle shafts are OMFG expensive, so that's not a gamble I want to take right now. Any ideas? For the record, I have 97,000 miles on it, the tires are a year old and the entire suspension is original to the vehicle.

I recently purchased a 2006 Endeavor LS with 89K miles knowing that the T-belt had not been replaced which factored into my purchase price. I have quotes of approximately $1800 from the only local Mitsubishi dealer and $1200 from 2 different indy shops. All services include T-belt, water pump, accessory belts and coolant flush. However, my preferred shop also mentioned that Alldata recommends this maintenance at 100K, not 60K, miles. Has anyone else heard of this? It would give me some piece of mind (and help my wallet) if I could defer this for about 6 months.

I was wondering how an endeavor would look with stainless or black nerf bars. I know how the original factory running boards look but they are expensive and hard to find. So I'm interested in getting a pair of nerf bars and was just wondering how would they look??

So my mom bought a used 04 endeavor a few years ago it has about 82k miles on it now, and its been a pain in the butt. More so then our 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee which has been a great car despit it being twice the age of the endeavor... First the endeavor had water leaking on the passenger side near the glove box like the day we bought it.. However it was fixed under the warranty.. Now the car is making a high pitch sqeeling noise under the car once it goes about 25-30mph and it gets louder the faster you go..
Now today the stupid car is making rattling noises when driving like something is loose or going to fall off from under the car. I dont even want to drive the car anymore. Iv looked up the high pitch noise and it seems like its probably the drive shaft bearings... Since the car isnt in warranty anymore i suspect this is going to cost me like $1000 or something to fix... Which i dont have.. How much does it cost to fix this bearing and can i keep driving it ?? Also what could that rattling noise under the car be ? Im starting to think it might be the drive shaft being loose cause im reading the recalls and stuff on this car and one is the drive shaft bolts that need replaced or something..
I dunno this car is a pain and i wont ever buy foriegn cars again or at least mitsubushi.. Im sticking with my 12 year old Jeep with 160k miles..

I have a 2004 Endeavor without the tow package. After a lot of searching on the internet, and speaking to the service department at my local Mit dealer, all I could come up with is to install an additial readiator for my trasmission fluid to get it up to towing capability. Stock is the fluid runs from the tran thru the radiator, then back to the tran. The new tran radiator takes the fluid after it leaves the radiator, cools it some more, then back to the tran. I am towing a 2800 lbs trailer. I'm hoping this is enough so my Endeavor doesn't blow up. Any other thoughts out there?

I just bought used 2005 Endeavor.
I am trying to get some welding done on it, and with some prior experience, I believe I am supposed to take the Keyless ECU out of the car. I have ordered a service manual but it is taking for ever to get to me and I want to know if anybody knows where this device is located. I took off the center console and I saw a couple of boxes with FCC ID's on them and I am not sure who is who.
Does anybody else know what other stuff I need to remove before performing Welding on the car?
I once welded an Isuzu Axiom without removing the Keyless controller and it got fried because the welding creates some currents which is too much for such devices.
Please help if you know something. I am a DIYer but I don't have any experience with Mitsubishi modern cars.
Whiles at it, can someone tell me how I can get to the Gear/shift selected plate to take it out? I want to install some lights behind it as I realized they did not come with lights and at night that place is not lit up. I don't know how to remove the arm rest, I have done everything else, but the arm rest sits right on top of the shift selected plate.
Thank you, I know I have a lot of questions.

I'm ready for some new rubber on my 2007 LS AWD and after alot of reading find myself interesteed in the General AltiMAX HP. This time around I would like to slighty change the profile and footprint and do so without having to go to new rims and larger diameter.
The std. tire size for the ende is the 235/65/17 and this size is available in the Altimax. The next tire size up would be 255/60/R17 and gives me a slighty higher speed rating and adds an additional 300lbs for towing capacity, a possible consideration since I may be moving cross country this year.
I know the difference in the 2 tires sizes I described isn't a whole lot, (about .75 inch width), and believe the 255 width should fit ok. My question is with change in performance and handling, we know this vehicle to be a little sensitive to change. Soliciting any thoughts about the tire size difference of experience with different brands, I don; see a whole lot mentioned here.
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.....
