Well I just got a '91 Mighty Max 4x4 3.0L V6 1 ton with 103,000 miles. It drives pretty good, but has developed a serious oil leak problem. It burns it pretty bad, especially at start-up I get a good dose of blue smoke. It also is leaking really bad from the motor, you can look underneath and see oil dripping. I removed the #1 plug and it was totally fouled with oil. I also had a wet/dry compression test done on that cylinder and it was 125 dry and 135 wet.

Trying to narrow down what it could be. I'm thinking it could be a combo of headgasket and valve seals. Trying to convince myself its not the cylinders or anything on the bottom end. Anyone out there have a similar problem or torn into this engines? What would I be looking at for various fixes price wise? Thanks for any help you can give or directions you can point me in.

I own a 1983 Dodge Ram 50 sport 4x4. The equivalent is the Mighty Max.( or so i've heard)But when I needed to get new tail light lenses I couldn't find any match. Until I stumbled upon the L 200 of the same year. The lenses are the same and after looking at pics. the whole truck seems the same. So is my truck linked to the L200 or the mighty max. VIN says Ram 50 so I am confused. I now need a clutch and transmission but is the truck worth it. I'm thinking its kinda rare. Thanks for any help.----Trae[attachmentid=6266]

I am new to the forum, having recently bought a 1987 Mighty Max Sport. Overall, it is in great shape for the vintage, but needs some front-end parts replaced to get an alignment and the spray can paint job looks better from a distance. I'm getting phenomenal gas mileage out of the 2.6l engine with 5-speed manual transmission. Since the owners manual is no longer with the truck, can anyone tell me what the gas tank capacity is on this model?

hi, new to this but it is a great place for owners , this is my third l200 ,i am having awful trouble starting the pick up even when its hot it will churn over for 10 seconds without starting ,this is really worrying me as my other 2 would start on half a turn of the motor ,new glow plugs ,battery check [although it was half dry when i got the pickup 5 months ago] does not smoke when it starts ,this is an intermitent problem ,now and again it will start reasonably well ,plz plz plz some one help

Ive got a 2002 L200 GL CREW CAB....Question is how hard is it to change the front wheel bearing? my drivers side has
started to squeel and its the bearing..ive bought the replacements but whats putting my off is the two phillips screws that
appear to hold the main nut/disc on..they are both badly rounded off and unless i beat the crap out of them with an
impact driver or mash them they wont come out, and then how does the disc come off to get the bearings out????
My local garage has quoted me £250 to fix but monies tight and id rather do it myself please help chaps

What is error code 43? Throttle control valve or timing control valve?

The 2002 4life L200 I bought ( got stitched up ) from the local car auction, smokes like a train and has a total lack of power.
Have done all the basics, all filters, taken off turbo pipes seems to be plenty of boost, tried blanking off egr no different.
managed to get managment light to come on whilst messing so tried to get independent garage to read and cancel faults but none of them could read the ecu so had to go to main dealer, long story but they suspect ( cant be sure they said) that the solinoid vacum pipes are on wrong.
I have orderd a workshop manual off Ebay in the hope it will have a diagram of the pipes, but could do with it now and posty is on strike.
Can any one help please.

Can someone answer a question I have about the lcd display on a 3.2 Triton.
Is it possible to take out the small display screen on the 3.2 and replace it with the large full size screen fitted to the 2.5 Triton ? if so can it be connected to show the compass clock ect as on the small screen ?

A little background. I recently bought this truck from a friend of the family. It sat for about 2 years because it had quit running for the owner. I found out that the new alternator that they had installed had a loose connection and wasn't charging.

This will be my commuter vehicle, so I have gone through the truck and replaced a whole mess of stuff.

I have replaced all of the following:

1. All tune-up parts(cap, rotor, wires, plugs, and all of the filters).
2. All belts, including timing belts.
3. Waterpump, thermostat and hoses.
4. Shocks and repacked bearings.
5. Timing is set at spec. 5 degrees BTDC.

Now the issue, when the engine is cold, I fire it up and it runs fine. But, once I give it gas, it bogs down for a few seconds and then revs normally. Once the engine is warmed up, it does not have this issue. When driving, it feels like it may be a little under powered.

I tried a known good Mass Air flow Sensor and had the same problem. I did find two items that were not 100%, the first was the TPS. It had a flat spot at about the 1.2 volt reading. The next was the ignition coil had too much resistance. I replaced both and noticed a little better running, but I still have the off idle bog down when cold.

I'm thinking that there is only two other things that can be causing this. One being low fuel pressure, I haven't checked it yet because it is a pain in the rear. The next item is the ECM being suspect. Of course this will be the last thing that I will go after.

Now, has anyone had any experience with this issue before? Or does anyone have a good idea which way to look?

I have recently bought an 2005 mitsubishi l200 warrior, one evening under quite hard accelaration it instantly started a knockin noise from the engine. i have had the bottom end checked and it came back with no probs???. could it be somethin else??? would be pleased with some help i dont want what to do. it makes the noise on idle and normal driving.

I have a 1994 triton 4x4 , i have put in reco gearbox my problem is how to replace the rubber boots that seal gearshift shaft to gearbox housing .I f anyone could tell me how to replace them it would be much appreciated thanks in advance

I got the new key and got the truck started. It idled poorly but ran. Then it ran and drove great minus the poor idling. Then it started to stall out while driving, and the ecm relay started to click then the engine will die, it will restart after a few minutes of ccooling. I read here that the idle control valve might be bad so i replaced it with one from the junk yard and it idles better but the ecm relay will start to click and eventually the motor dies. Is there a problem with the relay or the ECM?

I am a happy owner of a green L200 Intense MT and recently i reached 100 000 km without incidents. No problems with the car, work fine but the greedy local dealer ask me 1000 euros for the replacement of the timing kit. This amount is too much for me so i wonder what is the maximum mileage until i should make this expensive operation? My car is out of warranty so is my choice if i go at dealer or at my friend's workshop. I prefer the second but i need the items so please help me with some links to online stores with EU delivery. I find nothing on eaby (or maybe i don't know to search right) so i need your help,any answer will be well appreciated.

Hi guys new to the site. I am hoping someone can help me with my L200 problem. I have a 1998 L200 2.5TD and for the last couple of weeks there has been a severe loss in power. The turbo is just not kicking in. Now I have been told that usually in diesel engine's that the MAF sensor causes this. Now the am I right that the L200 doesn't have a MAF sensor. So what can be causing my power loss. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, just a quick question, the cylinder head on my 92 triton has seen better days and needs replacing.
I was told that a head off a magna would hit (after the water pump drive was removed and pluged), I am not sure if this is the case, they look similar except for the water pump drive pully. If anyone knows or could shed some light on the subject or if anything else is recomended that would be great.

Have a 4 life 2006 diesel and measured my MPG between Bournemouth and Heathrow 4 times I performed the test by filling the tank until the first click off and resetting the odometer and then refilling the same way and the trip up loaded with 350 lbs cargo and 5 passengers and empty return trips and mileage was 37 going and 38 mpg return.

Guys, i have almost 200,000 km. The engine is blowing some smoke and been told the valve seals need replacing. The car has been running on LPG for almost 10 yrs. The idea of an engine swap has crossed my mind. Something wth more power. I havent heard of an engine swap in a triton, but what would fit and how difficult is a job like this to do?

Okay I am completely new to this platform. I have done a lot with nissans but not DSM's. I am looking to do the 4g63 swap in a Ram 50 or mighty max. I know need to get a truck that has the transmission that bolts to a wide block, but could you guys give me an idea of what years to look for. Also I believe I have to swap the harnesses but not sure if I do or not. So if you could tell me that it would be awesome. I ahve tried the Mightyd50.com but it is not up and running. So if anyone can give me advice/ help it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi not long joined the forum after gettiny myself a new L200 warrior. Need to get a tow bar fitted and wondered what is the best to fit and do i really need the wiring kit or can you just splice in the main loom.

I've recently gotten myself a 1986 Triton/L200/Mightymax (4x4 petrol carby) and I've had problems with it from day one with starting problems and all sorts.
Anyway, I've changed the battery and that seems to have sorted out the starting up problems... for a while.

Usually when I start the car, it 'chugs' for a few minutes and then begins idling normally - I'm pretty sure that's the choke. Today, however, I started up the car and the chugging just wouldn't stop. I can't drive it in that condition because it just stalls; once it's idling normally I drive it. So this morning, I sat there waiting. And waiting. The engine wasn't even warming up (so I assume that means that the choke didn't know what to do?). I popped up the bonnet and opened up the choke manually for a while until the engine was warmish, then got in and drove to work.

On the way, I noticed that the engine was getting much hotter than normal. I sustained a back injury at work and left to go home within 30 minutes (agh, just one of those days!). When I started the car, the temperature needle was lowish, but on my way home the engine started to get pretty hot again. At least there were no starting problems that time, but I guess that's because the engine was still a bit warm.

So now it comes to fixing the problem. I believe that changing the thermostat might be a good solution to this, but I wanted to get a second opinion. Would changing this part effect the choke, allowing it to work normally as well as stopping the engine getting hot? Or will it just stop the hot engine issue and still leaves the auto-choke problem to be addressed? Does anyone know *exactly* which thermostat I need to buy? I spoke to someone at the closest auto parts store but he seemed a little clueless. I'm also in Australia if that helps.

I've got a 2003 L200 TD (4D56 engine). I just replaced the head gasket over the weekend but unfortunatelly it seems i cranked it a small bit befor putting the belt back on. Obviously she's not firing right now.

I couldnt spot any marks for the alignement so im sitting a bit in the dark right now. I looked online but couldnt find any manual for post 2001 4D56 engines, so I thought I'll give it a go here.

Any idea how i can get it lined up again?

My truck battery runs dead if I use the headlights or the AC. Alt checks out ok at the parts store. I went and purchased one anyway, put it on and now have a check engine light on and it will not idle. When my foot is not on the gas it stumbles real hard, wont die but if i play with the gas some it will stumble and die when I let off. Any suggestions?

Does anyone have the installation instructions for this power upgrade?

Hello to you all, I have an L200 2.4 diesel when I accelorate hard I don't have a problem with it but if i accelerate slowly when the rpm gets between 2000 and 2250 the truck plucks as though I were lifting my foot on and off the accelerator quickly, I wondered if anyone had experienced a similar thing and could point me in the right direction.

Does anyone know whether a 2.4 4G64 engine out of a 93 Mighty Max would bolt up to the transmission in an 88 4X4 Mighty Max that has the 2.6 engine?
My truck has a rebuilt engine but the transmission isn't that great and I found an 88 that is in better shape except it needs an engine.

I have a 97 Triton club cab witha 4g64 2.4lt petrol motor.

There is an outlander engine on ebay and its 2.4lt and from a 2003 outlander.

Will this bolt straight into my triton as a replacement as mine has blown up.

Also noticed there are some magnas out there with 2.4 engines, will they fit in too?

Also if anyone has an engine for sale and is Australia (vic) please let me know as I need to buy one soon!

hi all.i have a 2004 l200 warrior.no mods or anything.i have bridgestone dueler tyres on size 265/70/16.im looking to replace them with some more aggresive tyres for some fun in the mud and on wet boggy grass.ive looked at the cooper discoverer st.im thinking of getting 265/75/16.instead of the above size.as a bit of a novice to 4x4 as ive not had the l200 long im after some advice on tyre sizes,i can use.rims are the original from new. also i will be using them on road as well as off.

i was wanting to replace my 12V 6g72 engine with a 24V 6g72 engine in my '91 model triton as the one i have currently is on its way out. is such a conversion easy and worthwhile to preform? would there be many modifications which need to be made, and also what would i require to do such a conversion? could i keep my current gas setup with the new engine? the reason i ask is that i can't find a new 12V 6g72 engine, but i can find heaps of new 24V 6g72 engines. even better though, does somebody know where i could get a 12V 6g72 engine from?

im new to the forum so firstly a big hello.....ive owned my 2002 L220 GL for 6 months now and i must say after driving
various landrovers for the passed 10 years im very impressed.the pick up back is so usefull and its alot faster and lighter
to drive.............so anyhow theres been abit of a squeeky squeel coming from the drivers side front wheel and after a
quick lift up on the jack ive got vertical movement in the hub..wheel bearing obviously gone....now as i said before im used
to landrover live axles and having had a quick look at the L200 hub cn someone advise how to change the bearings..as in
remove wheel,remove hub etc...most axles im used to looking at have a large castelated nut on the end of the drive shaft
and looking at my truck im perplexed......please help....my local garage quoted me £250 to chnge it and as ive just been
made redundant i really want to do it myself........thanks everyone scott

its got a stock n/a 4g63 in it and im lookn at geting new engine or doing my engine up so any one got any ideaa for me plus im lookn at putting power steering in my ute and was just woundering if i can take power steering stuff out of eny mitse or a l200.

Hi all, new on here so be gentle with me

I have a 52 plate (2002) L200 4Life and to day experienced a rather large power loss whilst towing.

I had a trailer of hay on the back, about 100 bales for the farm types amongst us , and to start with could not get above approx 40 mph, after a while the engine check lamp came on (bottom left of instrument panel, engine shaped symbol?), and power dropped enough to slow me to 20 mph. I stopped and checked the simple things like air filter and the fuel filter drain, as well as a visual inspection of the boost hoses and vacuum lines - nothing instantly recognisable as a fault.

After switching off the engine and restarting, the inspection lamp went off. The engine revs freely to the red line - no problem - so swapped loads for an empty trailer and progressed back to base. On the way back, it cruised happily at 60 mph with no problems.

Does anyone have any pointers as to where to start looking as the truck will be needed quite a lot over the next few weeks
