Timing belt goes... three blown valves.
The head is already off the car.
How can i tell if the pistons are still okay?
What is the likelyhood of the pistons cracking when ever the timing belt snaps?
Any other problems I should look for?

Perhaps I should state the reason for my post. I have 1996 Eclispe with a mnual transmission. Recently I began having problems placing the car in gear. The shift feels like it's in gear but when I press the gas I get no power. The car starts with the clutch engaged but, when I take my foot off the clutch the car doesn't stall. It keeps running. Before this my car would stall when the clutch was disengaged.
I guess my first question is this. Can I fix this myself. Do you think I 'm having the problem as a result of a lack of fluids. Or, do you think there is a problem with the clutch itself. Does it need to be replaced?
Please help.

1st post here. I have a 1998 Eclipse that had a slight run-in with one of those soccor-mom SUV's... Driven by a Soccor Mom who didnt know how to drive an SUV; Or any other automobile for that matter.
To make a long story short. I have to pay for the repairs. I took it to a shop and no structural dammage has been done. I have a new door ready to mount and the front fender is not a problem at all. However the rear quarter-pannel is proving to be quite a pain to find a way to fix.
Instead of going back to factory spec body. I will be installing a Body-Kit. However, I cannot find a good kit to put on that includes the rear quarter-pannel.
Anyone out there have any advice on fixing this up? Any body kits to recommend? I am looking to spend about 3000-4000 total to get it fixed up and looking good again.

ok guys, i recently have noticed that i am leaking antifreeze. which im almost positive its from the water pump. so should i replace this myself or go to a shop. but if i get it replaced i want the timing belt changed too. now are these 2 things really hard to do or not. i have done plenty of water pumps in the past so i know wat im goin there but not timing belts. so some help would be great on whether these jobs are easy or pretty frekin hard.

hey guys, i have a 95 eclipse (rs) and it has nearly 140k on it..
my car wont start; it just cranks and me&my mechanic friend's tested everything (spark and fuel)- theres fuel but no spark. we ran tests on spark like ignition, coil, starter, etc.. we even bought a replacement for my ecu - everything's brand new or still good..
and despite it all, it wont start.. it only will crank!
anybody had the same problem and found a remedy?
please help! my car's been in his shop for like 2 weeks now..

i bought a used 99 eclipse gs spyder conv it has the garage door opener on the visor. i didnt get the owners maual when i picked it up. does anyone have any idea how to program and operate this item . any help would be appreciated thanxz

Does anyone know any sites were I might find some pics of a 2G with twin turbos. So I can maybe rip off some ideas. I have a guy close to me that builds custom turbo kits so he could help me with the comptuer end of it. I have access to a manderal bender and a tig welder so I could fab the plumbing, but I would like to see some other applications do get a general idea of what I would possibly getting myself into.

Hey guys and gals. My question to you all is what are the best springs and shocks to drop a 97 spyder GS and give it an aggresive look with getting that bounce when driving that I've seen before. All I want is a nice Drop with a smooth ride without my car bouncing at all. I've had some honda guys tell me to use tokico shocks and H&R springs to lower my ride, Now i want to hear recomendation from fellow eclipse owners...

I have 97 eclipse gsx the thing is sweet. However i have one complaint its automatic. yea yea yea i know why would you ever buy a car like that thats not a standard? well the answer to that is simple when i bought the car about two years ago i couldnt find a 5 speed anywhere i live in New York and going to california to get one just wasnt an option. but i know have some excess cash and still love the car so i want to breath some new life into her. so i need to know if i can swap a engine and a transmission from a newer 3.0 02 or 03 eclipse and yea, can i turn a automatic into a 5 speed. will the v6 even fit ?

I installed a new alternator in my 94 eclipse gst. For some reason some of the wires came loose but i can't figure out where they go. The alternator charges to 12+ but then steadily starts dropping. I think its the charge wire but im not sure. If any has a wiring diagram or pic that would be great thanks.

My alarm just quit working two days ago. There is an indicator light on the dash, and it slowly dimmed, then died. none of the alarm features work, and i cannot start my car, until I can shut off the alarm. Is there any way to bypass or turn off the whole system?
I have a 1994 Eclipse gs. The alarm remote says "python" on it. The car battery still works, just the alarm is dead. Help! I can't drive my car!

Ok well i bought a GS-T about 2 weeks ago and right now its running at 15 psi....
My Q is at how many psi do they run stock, and what should be the highest i should go with stock internals...
Other than that what upgrades would be best for the buck...
Since im new with turbochaged cars im looking in probably doing bolt on stuff and then later on work my way on up..
Other than that how fast do u guys think it runs 1/4 as it is now?
its a 98 gs-t, boost controller set at 15 lbs, and i think thats pretty much it...

Ok, my friend has a 91 gsx and $1500 to spend on it. He wants to get the best bang for the buck, but doesnt wanna spray. So what mods and brands would you guys suggest, gives the most power/cut down his ET.
BTW, Do any of you know a more specific Eclipse site? No disrespect, but i just wanna find a site focused on eclipse/talon performance. thanks in advance

is it true that the 95-99 motors are more problematic than say a 90-94?
i heard this as a rumor from my mechanic because he said he see anywhere from 25-30 95-99's and see about 3 1.8's ..and there is alot of eclipses in my area...i was just wondering if this "rumor" was true and if it is just the 2.0 motor that is more problematic

I need some real help here, my girls car 92 mitsubiti eclipse stoped working while driving it. she put it in 2 low to go up a hill and said that the oil light came on and it spuddered for a sec and the car just stoped and now wont start again, the engin cranks over its gitting gas ant thare is pleanty of oil in the car. what would make the car do this i would really appritate any help as soon as possible so i dont half to take here to work every day. thanks

ive noticed before that when i start my car up before i drive it while it is just idling the engine revs every 10 seconds... well recently i got an electric car starter installed and i noticed this morning when i started it up that it was revving every 2 seconds.... its been doing this since i bought it a year ago so i didnt put any thought into it being harmful to my engine or anything... but now its worse so i was just wondering what could possibly be causing it and if its gonna hurt the engine in the long run

what size is the 1g throttle body and 2g throttle body? Can the sensors be swaped? i.e 2g sensors on the 1g t/b. Does anyone know this info? Oh yeah the 1g t/b is off a 6bolt 4G63-T motor and the 2 g is a 7bolt 4G64 motor.

Can I take the head off of my 91 Non-turbo Eclipse and put it on the 91 turbo'd Eclipse?

do u absolutly need an intercooler to run a turbo, im new to the DSM scene and i have my 1st dsm being a 1.8 sohc base, im just curious if i could simply put on the turbo and a manifold from a gst to make mine a running 1.8 turbo..
please someone let me know i need to know asap i have the turbo and manifold from a 1994 gst and dont know wut to do!!
by the way does anyone know what TSI stands for..im confused, and was there ever a turbo awd laser..?

Ok im buying a used 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, for parts and pics go here
http://gsx.has.it But ok the car, makes a noise when its in gear. Its a real irratating grinding noise, it doesn't do it in neutral and stops when I push the clutch in.. Everyone else i asked said it could be one of these
Rust on something from sitting all winter and moisture built up
Throwout bearing "best bet"
Pressure Plate
Flywheel
I think we got it down to the fact that it is in the transmission or the differential, most likely the differential. So if anyone knows anything about this could you please inform me on what it might be?

WHEN I START MY CAR, I HEAR A STRANGE NOISE AT THE SAME TIME WHEN THE ENGINE TURNS OVER. IT SOUNDS LIKE A RUBBING NOISE. THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DROPS BELOW 30 DEGREES. The other I was driving down the road in my 91 it was snowing and the road was icy. Well anywho, some jerk in a big dodge truck comes driving down the middle of the road and I had to pull off to the side rather quickly. Something on the side of the road did something to my suspention. My tire is slamed back and you can hear it rubbing agaist my wheel well. I cant drive it til it is fixed. I'm not sure what broke? Someone told me it could be a tie rod, but I dont know cause I've never had to work on a suspention issue before. If you have any idea what could have gone rong I'd greatly appriciate your help. Thanks alot.

Just wondering if anyone here knew how many psi a stock turbo'd 91 eclipse runs? And does it come stock with a blow-off valve? Do blow-off valves make a difference in performance or are they just added for the sound effect? Thanks for your help I never owned a turbo'd car so I dont know much about turbos.

[B] I own a 91 Eclipse, 78,000 miles, 24 valve, It ran great until I ran out of gas. I cant get it started. Fule pump is pumping gas. I took the bolt out of the gas filter and she is pumping gas. I sprayed engin starter in the intake. It attempted to start but no luck, wont start, any suggestions.

Ok so i get my car towed and taken away for a couple of months and i get in it today and crank it up. It took a couple of time for it to turn over and actually start, but when it did (the sound i haven't heard in a long while sounded good) roared to life then dropped and started to sputter while it was idleing (didn't sound good). So i let it sputter for a sec and the pressed the gass a little bit to get the fuids going and after i quit it still was idleing way too low. Well my friend was behind me and he noticed that water was coming from the exhaust. So i hit the gas again and try to blow some of it out, well when i do that a load of oil and water comes out.then some white exhaust started to come out. So i turned it off and let it sit for a while. I come back outside and crank it again and the oil had stopped but the smoke was still there(white) and then i pressed on the gas and then cam some oil. So I am here now asking some questions. Do you think that it could be just clearing out some carbon buildup since it hasn't been run in a while or is it something more serious. I checking the engine and didn't see any leaking under the hood or anywhere else under the car. Could it be some fried rings letting some oil slip by or a cracked head. PLEASE let me know asap. thank you.

I was driving down the road and my car just shut off. Can't start it. It sounds as if the fuel pump stopped working. Do these cars have fuel relays or fuses to change? Has anyone ever experienced this problem. I have gas in it and the battery is not dead by any means.
97 Eclipse GS Spyder non-turbo 2.4
Any suggestions?

I am looking at buying a 91 eclipse and Its a very sound car. there are two things that bother me. first there is a ticking inside the engine it sounds like it could be a bent or bad push rod. any hints on that would be great. Next is a big one. The car drives very nice until you go to stop and you put the clutch in to stop. the engine will drop down to 500 rpm's and sometimes recover, but most of the time all the warning lights turn on and it dies. the current owner has taken a vaccum hose off to create a hiss everytime you put in the clutch (basically a cheap way to making it hiss instead of buying a blow off valve). he says this is what is making the enigne drop to 500 rpm's but has never had any problem with it dying. Will replacing this hose fix the problem? or is it something even more deeper then that. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hey guys...this is my first time posting...i am taking out the turbo from my 97 eclipse spyder ....i took out all the mechanical parts of the turbo and put back the factory manifold and air filter etc.... however my engine's rpm is staying at 500 and when i press gas all the way ..its not going past 2500 rpm...i made a guess that i have to reset the computer or detach the turbo from the computer..i am not sure if i am correct..or how to detach the turbo from the computer...if anyone can help me ...or tell me how ...help much appreciated

I got a 91 eclipse with a couple of ...door... problems. First the driver side window will go down just fine but when I go to put it up, the front end "dips" down and jams it up I have to hold the back down so it will go up properly... as for the passenger side... the driver "main" window switch only powers the door about 3/4's of the way up and then it stops... the passenger switch will bring it up and down no problem... I'm assuming it's the motor connected to the driver side switch but I wanted a second opinion before I rip my door apart. next the driver side lock doesn't work from the outside... I have to unlock the passenger side of the car then the driver side will unlock.... any help on either of these things would be great... then I don't have to have my doors ripped apart and me guessing... THANKS!!!!

i got a prob, i dont know how serious it is but lets see what yal think. on the boost guage for my turbo the guage is not goin as high, an the sweet sound of the turbo doesnt sound like it use to its lower pitched an make the sound as much. any ideas on what the prob is? is it major? is it gonna screw more stuff up??
please help me!!!!

I currently have a 3000gt but I can never find parts for it, im thinking about getting a 2nd generation eclipse and especially the gsx because its awd. does anyone have any good or bad things to say about it and would there be a better eclipse than the gsx. I dont want a 3rd generation because my best freind has it and i dont want the exact car and the 1st generation is just to old for me.

My friend has a 96 eclipse rs and he is doing A LOT of engine mods, but when he goes to buy parts he shys away from things that say "for a 4g63". he seems to think that the 4g63 is only a j-spec motor.

Is this true or is there not a diffrence. He has also bored the motor .20 and has a TURBONETICS turbo that is pushing 15lbs of boost. What size injectors should he be running? Money is not the issue here so what ever you can tell me would be great. Thanks guys

A friend of mine wants to buy an Eclipse Spyder. Since her funds are limited, the cars in her price range have 80k miles or more. Someone told her that Mitsubishi engines are no good after 100k miles, so she is reluctant to go ahead with any deals. What can you tell her about the reliability of high mileage Mitsubishi engines? Thanks very much!
