Hello All,
I am a new member in this forum. I own a Proton Perdana V6, a similar model as the Mitsubishi Galant Eterna 1998. The motor is a standard 6A12 DOHC 24V.
The question is:
Can I convert my stock engine and fit it with a twin turbo mechanism.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Naveen

i have a 95 galant es and i just attempted to put a new intake on my car and i disconected the battery to take out something and when i got all done i tryed to start it up and nothing at all. the battery i assumed was the problem seeing as how nothing else like the lights work and when i tryed to jump it it did nothing at all either. just wondering if there was some form of security or something that would not allow the car to be turned on. i changed the pos. batter terminal when the old one i found to be loose and thought it was the problem. i also have the idea that it could be a fuse but i have no idea please help me out

I took my car (1995 Mitsubishi Galant LS) to a repair shop to have a new starter installed since the original starter died. A few days later the car had an extremely rough idle and the valves were quite noisy. Shortly thereafter, the car would start for a few minutes and then shut itself down. It would no longer start.
I got the car towed to the dealer who found out the car was not creating a spark. They replaced the distributor with a new one only to find out it still did not create a spark. Ultimately, the dealer noticed the housing for the starter was defective and it was basically hanging on by one bolt as opposed to two to the engine. The dealer installed a new starter and another distributor and the car started but the timing was now off so they corrected that issue also.
The shop that installed the defective starter doesn't believe it could have damaged the distributor and thrown off the car's timing. The dealer advised current flows from the starter to the distributor in one direction and that the starter reversed the current and damaged the distributor. They also advised when the starter threw itself into reverse, it caused the car's timing to be off.
Could someone confirm this and maybe explain how it is possible for a starter to damaged a car in this manner if current flows in the opposite direction?
My repairs were quite expensive and I may be forced to take legal action against the shop that installed the defective starter if they don't compensate me.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have a strange problem. When I start the car it idles at around 3000 rpm and some times it smokes grey smoke. I learned that if I shut it off and start it again 2-3 it will start normal. But yesterday I tryed to start it and it was idleing with the high rpms. I tryed the method I learned but didn't work. So I tryed to start and shut the car off probably 300 times. Then I unplugged the MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR and the car started idlein at normal RPMs but did not have any power. So I bought a brand new MAF sensor for $300 and installed it and the car was running fine. And the next morning I tryed to start the car again and the same thing happend again with the high RPMs

and when I unplugged the MAF sensor the car start idleing normal but with no power again.
Please somebody help me with my problem. I have the check engine light ON and it says that its the MAF sensor

I have a 98 Galant in need of a radio code. I need to reset the radio too. Someone had tried to enter the code too many times and I am now locked out. The serial # is 7X308330. If anyone could help it would be awesome. I live so far from work and it is not a fun drive without tunes, especially the Reggae

I was wondering if it is a common problem for the master cylinder for the clutch to stick. It is only 2 years old but the car sits for months at a time not being used. Pressure is not building up in the hydrualic line. I have taken the cylinder out for cleaning and it apperars to be stuck its soaking in marvel mystery oil right now. Is there a sping behind the cylinder that helps push it back.
Thank you

okay...like it says to the left i gots a 1996 galant, and as it states above, it doesnt shift out of first when put in drive. just changed the filter and fluid in the tranny. black but smelled fine, hot yeah, but not burned. sparse amount of super-extreamly-fine-particles in the old fluid. I put the car in neutral and let it idle to check the fluid (read to do that on a couple other galant specific sites), and the fluid is good. please tell me the tranny is not shot.

Next day: in a last ditch effort to ensure work doesnt suffer from this i got an 88 olds from craigslist today...wife is not happy her car is not working and i need to get this fixed as chea as possible....any ideas are better than what i've been working with....

hello, i have a 1995 galant es with auto tranny, i've read alot of different places on-line, about people having problems with there overdrive and how it wont shift higher than 40 mph with o/d on and it feels like its going into nuetral. but none say what the problem ends of being. well i had the same thing happening, for a while so i just drove around with o/d off, well the other day i was driving at around 40mph and it felt like i accidently pushed the o/d on button, so it felt like it went into nuetral, so i hit the button, and made sure it was in D, but my car just rev'd, now whatever i do my car just revs, i have no reverse or D, , linkage is connected, where my link is connected to tranny i can hear a fast click when in D, so last night i pulled the pan, i found 3 magnets with no metal shavings, but i did find, a couple little broken like saftey pins a little thicker, filter was dirty but no shavings, can any one tell me whats wrong. please before i start wasting money

Hello fellow kiwis (and anyone from other countries with same car). I am trying to find out if anyone else with my car has noticed these problems and have found ways to fix them or if anyone else has problems that I havn't listed to see if the rest of us can fix.
I've had my VRG Galant for about 8 months and have noticed a few things right from day one, And I've seen plenty of VRG Galants around and was hoping some of those owners visit here. Trying to figure out if it's just my car or a GDI thing.
1. When cruising at any speed (use 60km/h @ 1500-2000rpms as an eg), I have noticed that the car will start slowing down even if you keep the RPMs exactly the same and having to rev it faster to pick the speed up again, Feels like it gets stuck.
2. The gears seem to "lag" and I have to manually change it from 2 to 3, more so when going up steep hills, but I notice it sometimes on open road (mainly from accelerating from idle).
3. At the moment I'm also having a problem with it "spluttering" after driving around at peak operating temperature for extended periods of time, also mainly when accelerating from idle, once it hits 4th gear and I keep at 55-60km/h it goes fine. (Diagnosed as problem with No.4 Coil, replaced, and it still does it).
Also if anyone in the Auckland area could recommend me a good mechanic that knows VRGs well it would be appreciated, The ones I've gone too just say it's the carbon in our fuel, but I've been using Biofuel.
Things I've done, Combustion Chamber Clean, Transmission Flush, Spark Plugs are fine (platinums).
I'm at a loss, never had this much trouble with my 89 mazda familia

Thanks

Hello to all,
My nephew bought a 1996 galant es with the 2.4 I4 in it. It is an auto. I am trying to figure out though where to connect this wire. It is coming off the the alternator and looks like a ground wire. The wire is the one on the lower screw post of the alternator NOT the wires with the clip on the end as that one is connected fine. If anyone has a picture of how the alternator is wired up in these cars it would be great, any help is always appreciated. I hope i have explained it enough but if pics are needed i can get them quickly as the car is in my parking lot.

I have a 1997 Galant GDI VRG which has some intermitted problems and would like to use my diagnostic tool to diagnose, but my tool says vehicle is not responding. I cannot afford to buy the proprietory tool so i use a generic tool (OTC Genisys and EZ Scan also a Software type ELM327) no one in my small island has that tool. so can anyone tell me if it is possible to read my car codes and how?

Hello all I'm new to the forum
I have a few concerns about my 98 galant. The other day I was driving all was fine. I went to make a left turn. The turn sinal worked fine. When I went to turn it click back to its normal position but the blinker was still flashing. I thought perhaps it was a fuse and I changed it but it still is stuck. The right blinker doesn't do anything now. Hazards work fine and all the other functions of the blinker switch (head lights and Hi-beams fine). What would cause this? Is it expensive to repair? Where would you recommend I take it to get repaired? Dealer or Pepboys

Good morning. This is my first post on this forum. This concerns a car in Virginia. I need some help with my daughter's 1996 Mitsubishi Galant.
She broke down on Interstate 64. Car overheated and she pulled over to the side of the road. As we were visiting her she calls me and tells me the symptoms. I pick up antifreeze, belts and hoses and get to the car. The alternator/waterpump belt is gone. The radiator shoots water out of the cap.
I replace the alternator belt, fill the radiator with 1/2 gal of antifreeze and a pint and a half of water. The oil is a little low so I add a quart. Battery terminals are corroded, so I clean them off and reinstall the cables. There doesn't seem to be any contaminents in the oil.
Try to start the car and all I got was it trying to turn over, but it wouldn't start. What seemed odd was that neither one of the pullies on the engine was moving.
Right now the car is at a shop in Charlottesville awaiting diagnosis. Cursory possibility was a blown head gasket. Looking for any ideas.
Thanks.

I have just bought a 96 Mitsubishi Galant VRG GDI.
At 100Klms/Hr and above it hesitates when accelerating. Then will have a rough idle.
The car has 75,000Klms on the clock and apart from this issue, is a sweet car inside and out.
Can anyone shine any light on this please as it spoils the drive.
Thanks in advance

I have a 95 Galant S and it has been running like a dream for me.
Recently it has developed a shimmy that only happens when I am accelerating in the range of 60-70MPH. Anything more or less and it ran smooth.
When I accelerate slowly through this range, the car does not have the shimmy. If I punch it through this range, there is no shimmy. Only when I do normal acceleration.
Also, when I am above that 70mph threshold and I go around a turn... I start to feel the shimmy again.
Any ideas? I wouldn't think it was an alignment issue because it doesn't do it when I am coasting at that speed. But, I am no expert.
Thanks in advance,
-Bjorn

After my galant 98 ES jumped timing and started making terrible noise, my mechanic replaced and reset the timing belt and it started working fine. But since the CHECK ENGINE light has refused to go off. Secondly, the car most times idles around 400rpm and 600rpm and sometimes it idles around 700rpm and 900rpm. Does anyone have a clue to these problems?

Hi fellow members, I have a problem with my galant 94 V6 DOHC a year ago it overheated & burst it's radiator, they told me the probelm was caused by the thermostat, since I am living in a tropical climate the mechanic advised me not to replace it but since then my car had been overheating because the radiator fan is not chipping in on it's own, I thought it was the switch that controls the fan that was bad but after replacing it I ended up with the same problem I had to disconnect the fan switch therefore allowing the fans to run free without depending on the switch to activate them, with this switch/sensor disconnected my car brings on the "check engine" light every time it's running plus the temperature gauge refuses to read over half even if the car is overheating it only goes half way and stops, I am puzzled about this problem & I have been told that maybe i'm having electrical problem, I had my car checked and my electrical system is fine, I dont know what to do about it right now, I have burned out 2 sets of fans so far because of the constant running of them...can some expert help me out with some solid advice?

Hello All,
This is my first post and am a newbie to car mods. I have a 98' VR-G Galant from Japan. I took it for a suspension test and I need a couple of parts changed. I don't know what springs are on the car, but it's dropped (1" in the front and 1 1/2" in the back). Also the engine was replaced, so now it hold a 1.8lt 4G93 engine.
Please advise me on what model KYB Shocks (F&B) and Shock Mounts to use. I also have to replace the link bars and lower ball joints. The KYB site that I went to seems to be specific for the U.S Galants. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...

Hi All,
As stated I have a 97 VRG Galant (4G93 1.8L GDI), Lately whenever I've been driving it around for long periods it starts to lose power and judders (Exhaust sounds like pop pop pop noises). I took it to my local mechanic and they ran a diagnostic on it and it came up with "No. 4 Coil Pack Problem" I bought a new coil pack and I assume I replaced the right one.
Left to right on engine there are 4 Spark Plugs with coil packs on top, I replaced the 4th one (being far right), but it is still doing the same thing. I'm now wondering if the machine meant Firing Order , Therefore I should of replaced the coil pack that is last to fire.
I have no idea and the mechanic is closed for the weekend, which is also the only time I have off to work on this stuff.
It only does this when it's been running at peak operating temperature for extended periods of time. the Rev counter shows it's still revving normally, but accelerating slowly and I sometimes have to manually change the gear myself (Triptronic).
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe somebody can help me. I recently bought a 1995 Galant with 125,000 miles on it. The AC and Heater both worked great. In fact the AC was really cold. I only had it a day and the tension on the timing belt went and I had to have the head replaced. Since then the heater and AC won't work. I have relpaced the heater/Ac control and checked all fuses. When you turn on the fan motor switch nothing happens. I doubt it's the fan motor since it worked so well before. Is there a relay or fuse I am missing.? If anyone can help I would be greatfull since it's starting to get hot here in Florida.
Thanks

Hello to everybody. I'm a newbie. I have a 94 Galant Super Saloon with auto transmission. When I shifted to drive/reverse mode, the revs dropped to 600-700 rpm causing engine vibration and eventual shutdown. The local mechanic replaced the servo drive assembly and cleaned the throttle assembly but still the problem exists. In idle mode the revs seem to be normal. I have to give a little gas to avoid engine shutdown.

Hello Gentlemen! I have a 1995 Galnat with 4G64 SOHC which is idling weird since this morning. Here's what exactly's goin' on.... the engine is idling at around 700 RPM when in NEUTRAL and the AC is OFF, but only idling at about 600 when the AC is ON when in NEUTRAL, now when the tranny is in DRIVE or REVERSE, with the AC OFF, RPM is at 600 and RPM about below 500(engine is about to shut OFF) when the AC is ON.
My question is where can I find the solenoid the raises the idling speed everytime the AC compressor engages???
It used to be, the idle speed is higer when the AC is on but now, idle is way too low when the AC comp is ON.
Please help me! Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi
in addition to a Pajero I have another Mitsi (I'm a sucker for replacing water-pumps and timing belts): a 94 Emeraude.
Can anyone give me the heritage of this particular machine please? I've been told that it's a Galant produced exclusively for the Japanese home market. Other than that, it looks very much like a Galant (with very few exterior variations from a Galant of the same vintage).
Any info would be appreciated as I will no doubt soon be needing to go and replace numerous parts as it's showing significant wear and tear all over and would prefer to get some of them second-hand. I don't have a manual for the car, so all the info and parts numbers are a mystery to me.
Cheerz

Hello there:
this is my first time posting on this forum, I have a 98 Galant LS that I love to death, good and faithful car.
Here is the problem, drove the car on Thursday night without any problem, parked in front of the house. My wife turned on the car on Friday and called me saying that there was a strong noise coming inside the engine compartment on the driver side.
To make the long story short the crank pulley came out of the housing and took the fan and AC belts with it. Both belts came out and the Fan belt is destroyed. I pushed the pulley back closer to the engine but I am not sure if this piece is attached to the engine and how. As far as I can tell there is an inner round piece that is attached to the engine and an outer piece that is where the belts go. I am mechanically inclined but never seems how the inside of this piece or how is attached to the engine. I have a service manual but does not show any pictures, when my lady openned the hood she said that a belt was out I went to the dealer and bought all three belts, at 88K miles they are due for replacement. I stopped by my mechanic but is out of town. If someone can give me some advice will be great. I am taking the wheel out tomorrow to make some room and see if I can figure out what broke or came loose. Is this a job for my mechanic or I have to take the car to the dealer. Again any advice, pictures and or diagrams will be extremely helpful
thanks for help and sorry for the long e-mail

i just bought it a week ago, clutch seems fine but since it has dropped below freezing i have had problems getting it into gear, every gear. if i sit and pump the clutch for a while after it warms up it isn't so bad still a little sticky though.
i checked the clutch fluid and its fine. i haven't checked the transmission fluid but will in the morning.
what i am asking is this common? the owners manual says
quote from manual
"NOTE
DURING COLD WEATHER, SHIFTING MAY BE DIFFICULT UNTIL THE TRANSAXLE LUBRICANT HAS WARMED UP. THIS IS NORMAL AND NOT HARMFUL TO THE TRANSAXLE."
am i experiencing what they are talking about or possibly something else.
background i have driven and worked on all kinds of vehicles though the closest to the galant i have worked on was a 91 eagle summit, i believe its pretty much the same but that has been ten years ago.
thanks
all help appreciated greatly

Hello, I have been driving my 1994 Galant for a couple months now that i got from aunt as a work car, now that my honda is gone i want to do somthing to the galant.
Never messed with a mits before so i got a couple questions. I'm sure a couple of these have bbeen answered before, but i can only read so much, as i will continue trying to search throught threads.
1. What engine comes in a 1994 Galant Ls,--- reason i ask is this has about 220K miles on it and don want to make any mods to it for it to need replacing inlike a couple months or less
2. What kind a swap would be great for it, or should i find a good engine out of a junkyard car. and then start from there.
3. I know in some cars it easy to stay with the stock engine that comes in and just bolt on heads and things of that nature and acheive the same concept as doing a swap is that the same in this case.
I do have experience with car just mostly hondas so bear with as i learn.

Just bought my 96 and the check engine light is on, i noticed the other day that the oil temp gauge doesn't work, would that be enough to turn on the check engine light?
jason

my 98 vrg gdi engine galant has a noise coming from under the hood, and it sounds like the valves ticking. the noise is in the same timeing with the rev. i have done oil changes twice and i still hear that anoying ound. i sounds like an old cars engine. i thought by putting in new oil that would solve the problem but it didnt.
please help

allright so i went the other day and traded my ford pick up for 1998 galant de, last night i decided to hook up my subs in the trunk, all was fine and dandy untill i got about ten miles down the road and everything just shut off, nothing worked. i had my dad tow me home and i thought that maybe the subs were pulling to much power from the alternator and the battery battery couldnt keep up. so i pu it on the carger all night long. this morning i went out to see if it would start and everything was still dead, so i am completely puzzled and dont know what the problem could be.
if you guys have any ideas could you let me know
