I live in Anguilla BWI where there is not a single good honest mechanic.
I recently imported a 2000 Pajero IO from Japan with 26,000 miles.
The car ran great for two months and then suddenly stalled in traffic, the engine did not stop, I just could not get it to rev up beyond idle speed when I stepped on the pedal. I got someone to "reprogram" the computer and the car ran great for two weeks, then the same thing happened, the same mechanic came, "reprogramed" the computer and the car runs great. The mechainic says it is either a speed sensor or a accelerator pedal sensor.
Please help, what is going on?

Hi,
I own a 1999 pajero io gdi, i recently experienced my io sort of miss firing, it has little or no power ad would even cut off. Mechanic thinks it might be the ignition coils.
Any idea what might be the problem and what would help to solve this.
Also does the io carry the same ignition coils as the mirage 99' 1834cc 1.8 or the mitsubishi galant 99-03, would they all work in a 4g93 engine.
regards
Val

Our 1999 Pajero IO has a flashing orange center Diff light (transfer case).
It flashes orange (slow flashing) as soon as the ignition is on.
It flashes very quickly whenever accelerating above about 30km/h and then goes back to flashing slowly when accelerator is released.
Does not flash when diff lock is engaged (ie. in 4H dl of 4L dl).
light has been flashing since we bought the car which was very recently- not sure if the last owner re-wired anything but the car does have an after market stereo.
Has anyone had the same problem ?
Thanks!

Grind, Clunk
Trying to diagnose a problem that causes an intermittent grinding

I started getting an intermittent grinding noise in my 2002 Montero Limited a few weeks ago. It only happens when driving steadily at average speeds (~45 mph, never at highway speeds), sounds worse when the brake is applied, and only stops when brought to a complete stop and a small clunk is heard/felt. It seems to be coming from the right front wheel area, so I checked the brakes and found that someone had pushed the brake caliper slider pin through wall of the dust boot, which caused the slider to foul. I replaced the pin, and the problem went away for about a week, then returned. I replaced the entire caliper, and the problem went away for about a week, then returned. Any ideas?

I changed the trans filter on my 97 Montero full size and it seems that the recommended oil amount causes over filling. Anyone gone through this? I put about 5 1/2 quarts in and it's up on the dipstick.

HI all,
Need help for following topic.
Where to check VIN numbers for a pajero which imported from Germany .
did checking on the internet but, most of the sites gives an error.
Actually its JMB0NV4404J000410 and as far i know is made in japan by mitsubishi and its from 1994 or 2004 year. Need to clarify is it really 2004 year. Actually all seats in the car labels i have from 2003,july.
The problem is table which has vin number does not indicates an produced year or any model number.
So please any one can point me good vin report site or tell me this vin number for the year 1994 or 2004.
Thank you all.
Sorry for bad english.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. Previous 4x4's are Land Rovers (old), HDJ100 Land Cruiser,'new), Merc ML400 (new). Next week I'm taking posession of a 95 SWB 2.8 Pajero; I can't wait! Ive never driven one before, the one I'm buying I've only seen pictures of, but I KNOW that it's going to be great. So WHERE, please, can I get hold of a manual for it?
I've read through all the russian website stuff, which seems to have been largely inaccessible to just about everyone, and I've tried it and I see what people mean about "password doesn't work". I can't believe though that in this day and age there isn't a straighthforward download available.
Any ideas please?
Thanks, Coop

Hello, everyone!
I wanted to get information about Montero Sport AWD 2000 3.0l petrol engine. My car's engine is damaged and i need to replace it. I found engine from junk car, but one problem- it is not from Montero Sport, but from mitsubishi 3000GT. The engine number is the same as my Montero, but i wonder, that it could not fit or work correctly. Can you say me about it? Are they completely the same or have any diference?
Maybe I can get the same 2000 year Montero Sport AWD 3.0l engine from other car? For egzample will the engine fit from older Montero Sport manufactured in 1998? Have it be only AWD car or it could be 2wd too!
Thanks for answering and helping!

I've got some standard 215/65/R16 road tyres fitted to my pinin but want something that will take me off road.
There doesn't seen much choice in that size, so I was wondering if anyone else has put bigger tyres on, and what size they were.
Any help appreciated.

I own a 2000 Pajero (Shogun) Pinin. The radio is showing signs of wear, latest thing broken was the plastic tab preventing me to click the faceplate into place. Is it possible to upgrade to an aftermarket radio and keep the functional display which shows MPH/Time/RDS/temp ect...? I've pulled the unit out and the wiring won't be that difficult, but I don't want to loose the functions of the display on the upper dash.
Any ideas would help.

The Cat on the Shogun 3.00 Petrol has gone and needs to be replaced. It sounds as if there is a hole somewhere in the exhaust but I cant see one or "feel" one. I took it into a exhaust place to check it out and was told the cat had gone. The car is also drinking fuel for England! They wanted £300 + to replace the cat!!!!!! Im being quoted £108 plus vat for the part which seems reasonable. Is it easy to fit - it looks to be - but I know these "easy" jobs can be deceptive. Loads of lubricant and patience in know but can the Cat be taken off in isolation or does it reqire the removal of the whole exhaust?
Thanks for your help

Hi
All right i don't have a Mitsubishi in the proper sense of the word, mi car is a 1987 Dodge Raider, which is the imported version of the Montero for North America, its basically the same as the Mitsubishi Montero, same motor, almost identical body, etc.
My problem is, my Raider have manual transmission, when i'm running at 40 mph and i shift from 4th to 5th gear i don't notice any difference in the rpm, like if you were still in 4th gear despite having already shifted to 5th, one would expect the rpm would get lower so the car can reach higher speeds. I have in some forums and some say that there could be a problem with the electrical system, o/d relay, and a some overdrive switch which is supposed to activate the overdrive (5th gear?), i have inspected my dash below the steering wheel and in don't locate any switch.
Any of you have had the same problem? If yes, how did you solved?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I have just got a SWB Pinin Van and its currently got 16inch steel wheels which are pretty rusty. I was going to sand them down, primer them and spray them silver or possible get some hub caps for now or finally get some new alloys. Ive looked online for specific 5 stud Pinin alloys and they are very hard or expensive to get hold of but I have seen some land rover 16inch 5 stud alloys with tyres going very cheap. So would these fit my car or how do I find out which other 5 stud wheels will fit my car?
Many thanks

Hi there
'93 Pajero - rear lights
I have the tail lights on the bumper working OK but would like to have the tail lights on the rear pillars next to the rear door working instead. I was told it was a regulatory issue in the UK but in Australia have seen others where these rear lights are used rather than the ones on the bumper.
There are some wires leading to a fuse spot in the engine compartment which only has a place holder (rather than actual fuse) there which I was curious about but reluctant to fiddle around and see if that got the lights going.
I dont yet have a service manual but will look online/auto parts stores next week. I had a quick try of downloading service manuals from the sites listed in other forum topics here but couldnt locate the page.
If someone could point me in the right direction to get these lights going Id appreciate it.
cheers

I have a '01 Mitsubishi Pajero (Montero) (Based here in Ireland) and I'm experiencing the same with Braking...
I'd spoken to my nearest Mitsubishi Dealer who quoted me €3,500 to replace the whole braking system, but then spoke to a local mechanic
who specializes on Truck brakes.. he told me it looks like the Accumulator sphere needs replacing? there's a chirping noise and a slight vibration
everytime I press the breaks.... Coming from the Cylindar beside Brake Booster (Accumulator Sphere).
he reckons the Nitrogen gas has either depleated or the Diaphram within the accumulator is having issues...
I've been told initially to Replace the Braking Accumulator Sphere... should resolve the issue?
Could someone (if possible) me know where you can order the replacement Accumulator (was it online) I can't seem to source it?!? the only sites I've
found are in Russian (I think) and unfortunately... I'm not very good with Russian :-)
Also, any hint's on the correct replacement procedures would be great!?!
I'm aware there's a recal on this item for my model truck but Mitsubishi Ireland will not honour this...
Thanks in advance...

03 montero limited - I recently replaced an upstream o2 oxygen sensor due to throwing CEL during driving. The CEL identified the faulty oxygen sensor. The heater element did test bad so I knew it was time to replace. Instead of the $300 OEM sensor, I bought a Bosch universal. Twice since replacing (4 days) Ive gotten 2 CELs - both being P0300 - multiple misfire code. A few sites I checked says thats it generic and that it could be a number of things including oxygen sensor. I checked all the wires around the nstall to verify that I did not bump something loose. All looks good. Im thinking if I continue getting this code, Ill suck it up and get the OEM 02 sensor. Ive nver had this CEL before so Im thinking that its strongly the sensor.
Anyone with experience with this or trouble with universal sensors? I thought all o2 sensors were equivalent, bouncing btw 0-1 volt depending on the exhaust gas....
UPDATE: I bought a Denso OE sensor (234-4742) today, so Ill replace to see if the p0300 code goes away. I wish I kept the old oxygen sensor so that I can reinstall it to see if the p0300 code goes away and the o2 sensor CEL comes back. The Denso unit was $120 w/ ship , still less than the online stealerships @ $260...

Hey everyone, I'm a new member but I've been reading the forum for a while. I've learned a lot from y'all, but I haven't read anything like the problem I'm having.
Recently I was driving to work when the radio cut out, came back on, cut out again several times then quit. I got to a stop sign and as I slowed, the AT hot lamp came on, and the car seemed to lose power a bit. I pulled into a lot, turned it off and tried to start it again. Nothing. I had a friend jump it, it started right up. I disconnected the cables and it soon died. (I doubt the AT hot lamp detail is important. There may have been other warning lamps on, that's just the one I noticed).
Since then I replaced the alternator (and running a borrowed battery). Now, some stuff works, and a bunch of stuff doesn't work.
Working: engine electric (car runs) , headlights, wipers.
Not working: Doorlocks, windows, seats, radio, interior lights, and the charging system.
My guess would be a bad/loose common ground for the interior stuff, but I don't know where the ground location would be. Also, it seems unlikely that the alternator would be grounded with the cabin accessories (though I really don't know).
Anybody have any thoughts on this one?
Cheers!

I bought a used Montero Sport. The automatic transmission surges at medium speeds. I have read online about the type of fluid that must be used. Since I dont know the history of the vehicle, I would like to flush transmission and put the Diamond fluid in that is required. The transmission shop wants $250 to do this flush.
My question is, can someone give me instructions on how to do this myself? I have been told there is a way to do it by disconnecting lines at transmission cooler. I can buy the fluid for less than a hundred dollars.
Any help would be appreciatted.

Alright, so you get a nice double din deck, or you simply just want to move the AC controls to the lowest din so it looks cleaner.
Here is the honest truth on doing this, it is not as easy as you think. There is a lot of tedious work.
If you are doing all this, you might as well install a nice stereo because the effort/labor on doing it while still keeping the stock weak radio will not seem worth it in the end.
First step is to remove the dash trim. There are 2 philips screws right above the info unit. After removing those, get a flat head and work your way around the trim to loosen it some. Now some will be intimidated by the next part but it is necessary to be done. After you removed the 2 screws, the only other thing holding this piece in place are clubs and tabs. You simply have to use some force until it snaps off. Don't pull to far because the harness for the Hazard lights are connected. Detach it and you can continue to install your stereo if you do not want to relocate the AC controls.
-----
So you got a double din stereo and it is necessary to relocate the ac control.
You can start to remove the AC control, its only held on by 4 philips screws, remove the harnesses and vac line connected to it from behind.
This is where it gets tough. You will need to dissemble that entire center area with the shifter. I am only speaking in memory. And will try to state some tips. Do not try to force anything because you will break something. The shift knobs HAVE to be removed. The 4WD selector is just screwed on, so just unscrew it. The gear selector however is held on by 2 screws. You will need to pry the bottom trim down, which will reveal the 2 philips screws holding it in to place. After that is removed you have to pry the cup holders out which will reveal more screws. After removing this section, this will reveal the 2 screws which is holding the trim that connects the surround of the din pocket to the bottom half. After removing this, you will then be able to access the 4 philips screws holding the pocket. Remove it and put the ac controls into place and attach it's connections back. Don't worry even though it's in a lower area, the wires and hose is long enough to reach.
[attachment=11430:stereo02.jpg]
[attachment=11431:stereo03.jpg]
Test everything before you put it all back. And just do the reverse process that you did.
What would have been nice is to move the info screen to the 2nd row (where stock stereo and ac use to be), and then put your aftermarket stereo in there. It would be optimal because it has a visor to shield from glare. However after trying this it wouldnt work because the depth of the control unit is shallow and there is not much room back there to push any stereo far enough to mount. Other problems I believe I saw were mounting points of the bracket, etc. I'm sure it could be done but with more work.
Anyways, the resulting outcome is still nice.

I am new to this forum so please point me in the right direction if this has already been addressed/answered. I did search first under wheel bearings, hubs etc and didn't find much.
I have an 01 Montero Ltd (auto trans). I love this vehicle but now have a pronounced noise (vibration / growl) in the drivers front that seems to occur at all speeds and doesn't seem to change significantly when turning. I'm guessing it is the front wheel bearing/s but can't seem to find much in the way of tech data.
I haven't had a chance to take things apart yet but will this week but am looking for assy/disassembly tips. Where can I find the proper steps? Will I need special tools? etc...
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.
Bob

hello everybody, was wondering what would cause this, i have checked the throttle cables and the cruise control cables as well, this is the 3.5l 24vavle engine i dont know if there is any t.s.b.'s on this however i was advised that it could be either the "T.P.S." sensor or the "I.A.C." motor vavle on thr throttle body, i was tapping on this during engine run and no help, please note that i have checked the engine using a "actron" scanner as well and it not trowing a code out as you would think...........thankyou

00 Montero sport 3.0
This starts out with teaching my son how drive using my Montero sport. We start the vehicle (sounds great) put it in reverse... still good... Then he gives it too much gas. The monty seems to be violently bouncing at the rear end backing out of the driveway. By the way I have a dirt drive way about 40 ft long. I get him to stop the truck. At this point the truck will only go reverse. No other gear will work , not even neutral. I thought the shifter cable may have came loose from all the bouncing.
I shut the truck off, waited a few minutes, and restarted the truck
The truck would not move in drive until I revved the engine, then it seemed all was well.. The truck was just alittle louder, like the drivers side exhaust pipe had a small hole in it.
This was 2 weeks ago.
this morning I noticed a drastic change. my truck is running very sluggish, and the exhaust noise is 10 times louder from the drivers side front. I also noticed a good amount of oil on the pan, still wet, but I dont think that has anything to do with this.
Any advice would be help... I would like to get this taken care of before it becomes really expensive.
Thanks
Tim

My 2002 Montero Limited (not Montero Sport) air condition was not getting that cool.
Most places charge $50-60 + the freon. So it results to usually $100. At least around my area.
I had purchased one of those Interdynamics refill bottles before at Walmart for my other vehicle. I was unsuccessful because the low port (which you use to charge) was too low for the short hose to reach without properly being able to maneuver the can/trigger.
Thankfully on the 2001-2006 Montero (can't say for the Montero Sport), it is very convenient. It's right there along the driver side firewall.
So I head to Walmart again. To note, Walmart actually does have the cheapest prices on anything if compared to anywhere else that might sell it, even an Auto store such as Kragen, Autozone, etc.
The kit was from Interdynamics
http://www.id-usa.com/This was the one I used
http://www.id-usa.com/product.asp?CID=28&PID=218It cost $35 and came with 3 cans of the cold stuff, about 12oz each can. The dispenser hose and gauge, and r134a retrofit for those using it on old cars. It also came with some CD/DVD with how-to instructions. It also came with paper instructions as well. It's a simple enough process where just reading was fine.
There was a 24oz "ARTIC FREEZE" with just refill and gauge for $29. Supposedly this line of product resulted in colder air and achieving it much faster. I opted for paying a little bit more for a lot more freon.
So using the supplied gauge I measured the current level--you must have the AC on full blast. The result was barely a few PSi. It was close to empty.
So I screw in the bottle, and continue to trigger some freon in the system until the gauge read at an acceptable level. I emptied one can to get to acceptable levels. I could use another to put it well into the green, but 1 should be enough.
Now AC blast cold and only spent $35 and I have 2 more bottles for more refills in the future.

Hi Folks,
I'm new to this forum and have an engine problem. Its great under power and smooth in deceleration, but when cruising at around 1500 to 2000 rpm ie motorway speed it hits a massive flat spot and the whole engine dies or jolts. Back on the power and again OK. It doesn't stall as the alternator light stays off.
Does anyone have any advice on this, I read somewhere that it could be an engine management sensor either near the flywheel or the crank, its an automatice and otherwise goes like a rocket.
Many Thanks,
R

Anybody know or have experience removing the ENTIRE power antenna motor on the 01-06 Montero (NOT SPORT)?
Does the fender have to be removed, or is it removed from the inside area?

I Have a 1991 Montero US 4 door and recently i started having problems with my radio, power locks, clock, dome lights and door ajar light not working, they work sometimes, but then they go off, it's very anoying and kind of scary because I've put about $2400 in this montero and It will suck if it catches fire!
so if anybody knows of anything that might cause this kind of problem i'd really apreciate it!
Thanks!!

My rear offside brake caliper is sticking. The vehicle has been in regular use and I cannot understand why the piston is stiff. I also had a mechanic take a look at it but was unable to help! Can anyone help? Will a service kit help? Thanks in anticipation.
