Hello to all - this is my first post to this forum.
I recently purchased a 1995 RVR Super Sports Gear - ideal size for my needs plus performance to boot.
I've recently had the head completely reconditioned, new water pump, timing belts and cams replaced - it appears that at some point this car was "cooked" badly.
My mechanic says I also need new wheel bearings (Front) - but he cannot locate the parts.
Can anyone assist me with this? I need either the genuine or non-genuine Mitsu part numbers so I can order them.
While here I may just ask another couple of questions
What is the little mirror on the front passanger guard for? It doesn't have much movement at all - best I can see with it is the side line.
Mine has a top mounted intercooler - how difficult would it be to make a front mounted one?
Cold air intake - possible? will it interferre with the AFM? I'm looking into getting a 3" exhaust system from the turbo back. Combined with the front mount i/c, cold air intake this should provide a little more go?
Has anyone ever looked at water injection (post intercooler) for this engine (4G63T)?
Thanks in advance - especially for having an RVR forum!
Wayne

I have an 2.0 L 94 RVR Auto Transmission. I am having problems with the transmission. Im sure that the car starts out in drive and stays in Drive. It never shifts gears. It lacks power on takeoff and when you shift from drive to 2,. the rpms never increase indicating that you are in second. Over drive does not work either . If you depress the footpettal all the way, i would hope that you would jump into passing gear. Nothing happens. I have checked all the wiring and connenctors and all are in normal. (you have to remove the air cleaner box to get to the connectoins. You cannot plug the connectors in wrong on a 94. . I have read about a TCU box. Where is it? I suspect that is bad.

On trolling through the site I can identify with those having problems following a replacement timing belt. As I write my local mechanic is pulling his hair out trying to get the engine of my 2.0 rvr sports gear to run smoothly and without stalling.
I was hoping to find a solution to help him, but nothing seems to jump out.
Well the garage used a home made timing jig, and now the engine has better pick up than ever. although there is now a vibration around 3-4000 rpm. When I asked if the balance shaft had been disabled, was told no it hadn't. But they didn't have any idea why but will have another look. I will keep you informed.
Any ideas?

Hello all,
I want to replace the wheels on my RVR with a set of 17". I bought a set off of a Lancer Evo, but the offsets were wrong and adjusting the tracking couldn't compensate? What offsets etc would I need for the RVR? I've worked out that either 235/45r17 or 225/50r17 tyres would be best, but I don't know how to size the wheels.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Soyeb

The engine will idle roughly, and when accelerated hangs for while (sometimes 30 secs or so) before increasing revs. Check light doesnt come on. Any thoughts?

Hello guys
I just bought a 1995 Automatic 4WD RVR sports gear and it had a very light pinging noise. I had the timing adjusted but the pinging continues especially going uphill at low speeds say < 20 kmph. Took it to a mechanic who checked the timing belt which he said is ok, changed the air and gas filters and spark plugs. The pinging was gone but about 2 days after it has returned. I used some fuel injector cleaner but nothing changed. Also noticed the fuel consumption has increased since the changes were made.
Anyone has any ideas what might be causing this and any solutions?

Hey guys I have just purchased a 1997 RVR Hyper Sports Gear In Australia. I'm finding it very difficult to find anyone who has any suspention knowlege about these cars, I would like to get my hands on some lowering springs that would see the car take a 3" approx drop form current stock height. Does anyone know where in the world i can get decent lowered suspention for the RVR without having to go to the lengths of coilovers which completly spoil the ride of the car.
Any info would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello everybody,
Just took my ride to my mechanic and he told me to take it to the dealer. Car doesn't accellerate properly and he said something about the computer and a sensor.
My question is, has anyone experienced this and is it expensive?
We are in Japan and in a couple months I will be due for the 2 year inspection($1000 min.). Just spent $350.00 to replace the exhaust pipe and don't want to throw any more good money after bad.
Appreciate any advice and comments,
steven

Hi
I am wondering if anyone has come across this problem.
The car on start up will race at approx 2000rpm and then as the engine heats up will come down to it's normal 800-1000rpm.
The problem is that it now seems to stall when stopped in traffic or when leg is taken off accellerator.
Is there a way of accessing the fault connector??
Does this car have self Diagnosis??
Thanks for any replies

hi everyone,
I am in Zambia, Africa and I own a Mitisubishi RVR X 1991 model and it is a petrol engine. I bought it as a second hand vehicle last year after being retrenched where i was working. A light "Check Engine" has started lighting on the dash board. Once it does it that the vehicle momentarly loses power and starts to jerk. A few seconds later it switches off and the vehicle is normal again. Other then this problem, the performance is excellent.
I have changed the fuel filter, oil filter, spark plugs, airfilter and the fuel pump. For spark plugs, someone advised me to use the supper 4 Bosch plugs, I am using them but to no avail. I have also tried to check for loose connection. I have noticed that just before the check engine comes on, the revs on the engine rev counter drop suddenly for a moment.
I have tried garages here locally but they can not figure out the problem; not many are experienced with the RVR vehicles here. Can someone please advise me on what the problem could be.
Best regards,

Hi people, my 1993 RVR Sports Gear 2.0 Td is returning approximately 25mpg. It's also pretty gutless when going up hills. I'm just wondering what the average fuel consumption figures are for one of these things? Does anyone know how to adjust the fuelling on the pump? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!!! Cheers...

I'm in the process of turboing my 1993 4G64 Eagle Summit. The plan is to go as followed:
- Keep the stock botton end (7 bolts)
- Keep the automatic Transmission
- Install a DOHC head from a 2G DSM turbo 4G63 with all the hardware from a Galant GS (Tbelt etc..)
- Intake,TB, fuel rail, FPR, injectors 450cc, complete harness, turbo ECU (1997) from a 2G DSM
- 1G exh mani, T25 turbo, 7 bolts turbo oil pan.
- SMIC installed in HMIC config with 1G BOV and hood scoop.
- And finally shift that **** with TCUGO's wireless paddle shifter (www.tcugo.com)
I'm planning on keeping the stock wastegate boost pressure, ~ 11 psi, which has been proven to be a reliable way to go on N/A pistons from a 4G64.
My question is, does anybody had done something like this? I know that some of you have made some 4G63T swap, which is easy compare to what I want to do. I have 95% of the hardware now, I'll starting this project as soon as winter arrive here in Quebec. Also, I'm in a the dark regarding the fuel pump. I'm not sure if I will have enough fuel for a FI application.

Hi all,
I am a newbie, not only to this forum, but to forums in general.
So may be a little slow at the start, or maybe even for quite a while!
Am still struggling with what to do and how to do it...........
My better half and I have owned a 1996 RVR for the last 3 yrs and have had a great run from it. At 200kms we are looking at getting a slightly newer model, and have found what we think may be the one.
We are currently looking at purchasing a 1998 RVR with the 2.4 GDI engine. The vehicle has done 75kms. Everthing looks to be fine and it drives well, but I have been told on two occessions in the last day or so, to steer clear of the 2.4 GDI motor, as it is hindered by may problems. Has anyone out there had any problems or know of any things to watch for with this model?
All advice will be greatfully accepted
Cheers,
Philby.

Hi to everyone,
I drive a 1993 Mitsi RVR and have a few noisy valves for a while. I have been putting additives into the engine, but this only silences the noise most of the time.
From my understanding I think I can check the valves to see if there are the proper clearances and adjust them accordingly.
Can someone please tell me the valve clearances for a 1993 Mitsi RVR 2.0l, 16 valve, DOHC, 4G63 engine.
Thanks.

Hi everyone
I'm new to this forum, but I have just bought a '96 mitsi rvr with 95,000 k's on the clock.
It's started to dom some weird things with either the revs, timing or gear changing.
When driving up any sort of incline, and sitting at around 2,000 revs, the revs start to jump around within a range of between 1800 to 2100 revs. I don't know if this is because it doesn't know which gear to be in, or if the timing is messed up, of whether it is something way more serious. It got a little worse last night.
I don't know a heap about engines, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction before I take it to the mechanic and I am at his mercy.
Thanks

hey,
have a 4g63 n/a RVR, and lately it has started chewing down fuel like a supertanker. my experience is mainly with ECCS nissans, but i expect that these are not too much different. what i need to know it the process for checking fault codes with these machines, so i can narrow down what is causing the problems.
is not using oil, auto transmission is slipping a bit, but nothing major. plugs are not fouling, nor is it misfiring or stumbling. just guzzling petrol at something 25-26L/100kms, no other symptoms.
any help would be great, thanks.

Hi All,
I am glad to be here.
I am thinking about buying a s/hand 1998 RVR X2 with 89000k on the clock, but I am having real problem figuring out whether it will be a good idea, given the poor? petrol quality that is available here in Kenya. The best petrol we have here is unleaded super (min octane is 93 but am told it can go up to 97 depending on the import batch), and I am still trying to establish the sulphur content, although I am told it is about 500 ppm. Now my question is, will I wreck the engine using this fuel, and if not, will I get reasonable fuel economy (say above 10km/l urban running?)
Two, I have read an article on the internet, talking about the GDI engine "throttle body" problem, and how the engine has to be de-coked frequently, and even having to replace the throttle body. Is this true? and if so, what should I do to prevent the problem?
Thanks All

Hi, just bought a 2000 RVR Super Exceed and this looked like a friendly place to get some info from owners of the same vehicle.
Firstly ........ I love my new car, pearly white, unmarked, original mats, all the gadgets a girl could ever ask for now I just need a stack of Japanese lessons to run the MMC unit and the auto starter.
Anyone else have a remote control unit to start the car .... I think that's what it does. I have the handbook, in Japanese. I have the MMC handbook in Japanese. I even have a stack of CD's in Japanese ..... I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so ........... Enough of that.
Anyway, a big hello to all fellow forum-ers

Recently my jap-import 1994 RVR-X automatics gearbox loses drive (The symptoms are when trying to change up from first the box makes a terrible whining sound as if it's got no fluid in the torque convetor or perhaps as if only the planetary gears are flying around, bizarrely there were no oncoming warning signs it happened very quickly at the end of a long motorway drive). My first thought was crap did i run out of transmission fluid, the answer seems not. My second thought was that the belts have broke, but i don't see any discoloration in the transmission fluid to indicate mechanical failure. I have had a suggestion that the transmission is actually controlled through an ECU unit. I can't verify that claim since i have been unable to find any reasonably technical book on the vehicle (My so-called service manual suggests taking the car to a dealer at almost every opportunity - which i'm not adverse to provided i know what's wrong with it first so i don't feel cheated when i see the final bill). If anyone has an opinion about whether or not the transmission is controlled by the ECU and otherwise what could be the cause of this problem i'd be a very happy person.

Hi guys,
I've recently bought an RVR Sports Gear 2l turbo diesel and am having trouble with the cold start. The relays are working fine if I give them direct power from the battery and so are the glow plugs. I have no power to the relays when I turn on the ignition. Does anyone have any experience of this problem? Or does anyone have a wiring diagram for the heating circuit? Hope to hear from someone soon!! Thanks...

Appears the manual for the holy grail is in English, but the question still remains can the software be translated.
JPNZ's MMC LinkI saw on another forum that it's a hardware change as opposed to a software one.
Someone was talking about it being a physical chip change in the MMC, however nothing materialised after the apparent exsitence.
I think we should call this Grail quest. Project Elvis! People think they've seen him, but no one can confirm it.

Hello everyone - it's my first time here so here's hoping you can help.
I'm considering buying a 93 model RVR with the non-turbo 2 litre 4g63 engine & manual gearbox. The car is in v.good condition & has only done about 70,000km.
I would love to get a Hypersportsgear, bu can't aford it, so here''s the big question:
Are there any mods that can be done to the n/a 4g63 to significantly boost its power output while retaining driveability?
Otherwise, is an engine swap to the turbo version a viable option?
Hope someone can help.
Cheers - Sven.

I have just taken delivery of a 1994 RVR 2.0 - 4WD shipped straight from Japan to the Caribbean.
-how do you engage the 4WD?
-neither fog lamp seems to engage when activating the rocker switch on the dashboard - any ideas?
-jack and spanners were missing. Real struggle to reveal the 4 nuts under the outer cover of the wheel - finally succeeded with one, just to explore - discovered one nut is the locking type - no tool to loosen it - any ideas?
Many thanks

The driveshaft between the 2 diffs is vibrating at around 90-100KMH, there is a yolk bearing at each end where it goes into the diffs at each end & in the middle is a bracket on the car which supports? the driveshaft, however my drive shaft is loose in that bracket, should it be held firm in there (like a bearing) or is it just a light rubber grommet that allows lots of movement, where else could the viration be coming from?

I have a '92 expo that won't shift into 3rd or function in reverse. Any ideas. Also, anyone have a diagram of the pressure ports (which one is for which clutch)

Hi,
A friend of mine has recently bought an RVR - non-turbo, but not completely sure if it's a 1.8 or 2.0 litre version (I do know that it's not the later GDI engine). She was complaining today that it seems to be pretty heavy on the gas - 130km of round town running used best part of about 20 litres of gas apparently!
Changing plugs and filters are two tasks for the weekend - as will be running a bottle of injector cleaner through the system.
My questions for anyone out there are:
- what are typical "real world" gas consumption figures for a 1.8 or 2 l RVR (open road at 100km/h or 60 miles/hr)?
- any suggestions for other possible causes of the high consumption?
Thanks for your help,
Craig

Gidday I'm Richard K
In a few weeks time I'll be the proud owner of my fourth Mitsubishi.
I've had a Lancer, Galant and two Chariots and will be taking possession of an '98 RVR sportsgear in June 2005.
Here's the problem...
As I like to tinker with the engines I've been 'googling' for a workshop manual specifically for a 2.4 GDi and Chariot/RVR models without any luck.
Whenever I've come close to various different name counterparts its always that engine size information that's never available.
Are there any workshop manuals available at all for a '98+ RVR/Chariot Grandis or similar???

Looks like this forum is more into sports cars ?!?- I own a Mitsubishi RVR, am I a weirdo? I'm living in Ireland, need an off road people carrier for windsurfing.

I have been reading quite a number of posts and the general consensus of opinion
is that Mits agents are not interested in offering advice or service to owners of imports. I have had some very poor service from one. How have other members found their agents service. Perhaps Mitsubishi in Japan should be made aware of this trend.

Hi
I have just reciently purchased 1993 RVR and am experiecing a loud wining coming from the cam belt when starting from cold which almost disapears afterabout 5 minutes running, The cam belt has been replaced about 10 thou ago .It has done just over 95000 k . I puchased the vehicle obout 4 weeks ago.
Also the valve lifters are sometimes noisy when worming up, and thay say that an addative to the oil may help .
Any help on these would be appreciated

Does anyone have any information or any sites where I can find about Mitsu Expos or Eagle Summit's that have been fitted with a turbo talon/eclipse/laser 4g63t engine?
I know the JDM RSRs (at least some of them) have the 2.0L turbo (4g63 I presume) and I think it would be AWESOME to have a quick awd 5spd expo or eagle summit - think anyone would expect to get smoked by one of these???
Please any info or opionions are welcome!!
-Jesse

hi, i am a proud owner of a 1995 Misti RVR 2L Auto Turbo. However, i am in great need of finding a part number of the cv joint without having to take the bloody thing apart. Pretty sure thats what i need as thats what my mechanic keeps telling me. It makes a cracking/grinding sorta sound when i take off or when i am doing a sharp turn both in reverse and drive. If anyone knows it would be great!

Hi Everyone,
I bought a second hand 1993 RVR Sports Gear, Upon playing around with resetting the clock and having it loose the time when I turned the ignition off I found it had a blown fuse.
My interior lights, Clock and the ding dong to let me know the keys are still in the ignition all work now.
My problem is, Can someone please tell me how to set the compass. I thought I had it by holding the center button and the "S" down together for 5 or so seconds but it keeps going into a flash mode..
Any help would be appreciated.
