Hiya
I'm on my second FTO a '98 2.0 manual GX with Blue headlights and one bulb has gone. There is a unit behind the headlights with 3 screws in take that off and there is a white unit. Now I'm stuck, can anyone a) give me a dummies guide to how I can change it and b0 tell me what headlioght bulb I need or even C0 tell me if there is a sympathetic garage near Southend which won't charge me the earth to change it.
I love these cars to bits but have never really found a garage that really knows how to deal with them.
Any help please guys cos I really need it............

Hi how doing? im new on the verg of buying a fto, i have a few questions.
1. the car has done 64000 mls but unknown whether the timing belt has been done, is the engine set up on the fto non-interference, i.e what would happen if the belt failed?
2. how do you rate the car for general reliabilty?
3. how easy/expensive is it to get parts?
4. any tips on what to check/ask when viewing the car?
cheers for your time.

I've had my FTO two years but the revcounter's never worked. I was told by one of the dealer garages that it was likely to be a problem with the ECU and we all know how expensive they are to replace! Is it possible to bypass the ECU to get the revcounter working again? Is this possible? Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi I recently bought an FTo GR and when I put the car in tiptronic the light around the N flashes and I can only get 2 and 3, also I cannot move between tiptronic and normal once in tiptronic unless I turn the engine off. I flattened the battery(dumb blonde I know!!!) and I think it must have reset something because after that I could use the tiptronic no problem for about a week. Now however it's doing the same thing, any ideas. I read on the FTo owners website that if something is not done properly when imported the tiptronic does 'funny' things. But there was no explanantion and no solution. Any one help!!
Also my dad has been nagging me to find out how often the timing belt needs to be changed, I have no service history with the car so I don't know when, if at all, it was done last.
Cheers Guys

My FTO GPX recently hit the 100,000 km mark and I thought I'd get the spark plugs changed and I also decided to get the leads changed. Ever since changing the spark plugs and leads, one of the spark plugs isn't firing up and hence when you drive, the car is loosing power and therefore its undrivable.
We tested the cylinder compression, tried putting the old plugs and leads on and still the same issue. I'm not sure what is happening there. Anyone have any ideas or experienced the same thing before?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
I have a 1995 FTO GR 2.0 (non MIVEC) and am having starting problems.
It seems very tempremental, sometimes it will start straight away, other times you can try on & off for an hour before it starts.
I think it could be the starter relay, as sometimes when I go to start I get nothing, and if I pop the bonnet there is a very light ‘tick’ noise which to me sounds like the relay. (Its not enough of a ‘clunk’ noise to be the solenoid).
Can anyone tell me (show me) where the starter relay is located? Also what relay would I need to get to replace it?
Thanks,
Lawrence

Hello every1 I'm Jane
Well today I bought my new ( to me anyway, lol) 95, fto gr, with a full veilside body kit.
mongoose exsaust, lowered on apex springs, plus a nice little alpine sound system.
Only downside if anything is that i bought it off e-bay, so its buy it as seen sort of thing.
theres no guarantee something wont fall off it tommorow.
altho to be honest the 50 mile drive was ok. only real problems so far seem to be, there are these additional rubbers along the top where the doors close ( like wind deflectors if ya know what i mean ) well on my trip back, having opened the passenger door for the first time this strip just fell off from the top, it seemed to be held on only by bits of double sided tape, But this itself was hiding another problem...! That the bit of plastic trim that forms the top where the door or glass of the door closes onto ( forgive my some what abstract and over descriptiveness, jus hope it helps) well theres a huge deep scratch on that trim, i will tommorow look to see how the other one is attached. but how hard or how expensive are bits of plastic trim like that, can i order them from mitsubishi. Im soooo new to this, especially an import the other thing is my cobra alarm that when i press one button on the fob, it just sets the alarm off an the other.....
i have no idea. I dont want to go straight to a garage to get ripped off. my boyfriend said that when he was driving behind he saw the odd puff of smoke now and again, could that be related to gear change, i mean i see lots of cars on the road new and old do this.....
should i worry. any advice would be soooo welll appreciated

Hi All, can any of you help?
My fto sounds tappety, but only intermitantly. Does anyone know the MIVEC valve clearance settings. Another cause could be a stuck oil presure regulator valve, does this model have such a thing?
Thanks again, any help will be greatly appreciated

Hellow fellow FTO drivers!
I have a question about headlight bulbs for my Mitsi FTO.
Driver's side bulb has gone and the only people I could find to get to it to replace it was a Mitsubishi main dealer. They couldn't replace the bulb because it has high powered bulbs in it - which they have quoted me £130.00 + VAT per bulb.
I think this is a lot of money!
To add insult to injury, they cannot replace them with standard bulbs as some kind of conversion kit has been used for the mountings. This will probably cost more in labor to replace these mountings than to simply replace the bulb.
Ideally, I'd like to replace the bulb but buy one from a cheaper source - but I have no idea what's in there at the moment!
Can anyone help?

I am about to replace the cam belt on a 1994 16 value 1800cc FTO. Can anyone answer the following questions. 1) How much tension do you place on the new belt? 2) How do you remove the main drive shaft pulley? and 3) Do i need to worry about the timing? If i remove the old belt and replace the new one without turning the cam drive or crank shift, then i should be able to simply pop the new belt on.- is that correct?

i have recently had a new water pump fitted, but when i put the cam belt back on and start it up it seems fine, but when the cam belt covers get put back on it seems to be rubbing on the cover. You need a special tool to adjust the tension wheel but i used 2 small allen keys, which seem to work fine, i have done this several times but the belt just seems to work its way loose and the tension wheel seems to move. can anybody tell me where i am going wrong??????

Hello,
I just wanted some advice on buying an FTO. I am 24 and interested in buying a GR version or possibly a GPX depending on insurance. Im unsure about what gears to go for i have heard mixed reports about the Tip models some advice pls. Also what age should i go for i was thinking around 97 because i have read that earlier models dont have abs plus some other things. Also what tend to be the major problems with them breaking down? and are they difficult and expensive to fix and get parts.
Any help would be great
Many Thanks

Hi,
Today morning, while I was driving my FTO early in the morning, the car came to a stall when it was still moving with a speed of 80 kmph after I rev the engine to the redline and shifted from first to second gear...
1) the car stopped at the traffic light
2) traffic light turns green
3) stepped on the accelerator (full)
4) car rev to redline (mivec kicked in)
5) shifted from first to second gear
6) car engine died without any response to accelerator
7) shifted to third gear, can feel the gear being connected to the engine
8) headlamp is still on
9) when clutch is stepped on, the "battery flat" light comes out, but when the clutch is released, the "battery flat" light goes off again
10) surprisingly the RPM is pointed to "zero" even when the gear is running
11) car decelerate to a stall and never start again (the car is still in the service lane now)
12) when key turned to "start", nothing happen, only ONE "click" sound from the dash board.
help me please

Thanks!
