Hi all,
I'm driving a 03 Outlander and luvin it... But the lack of power is something that's been bugging me severely... Are there any performance parts or mods that I can find for my vehicle, here in Canada, without costing an arm and a leg? I'm a newb at this, so I dunno what to do! I've heard iridium plugs and K&N air filters do wonders, so I have switched to them... However, I've only noticed a smoother ride, but not exactly a power gain... Any other suggestions?
Cheers!

That trip across the ocean is really tuff on these vehicles. I picked up my 05 Outlander Ltd. mid January with 9km on it. During the inspection at the dealership I noticed a lot of surface rust spots on the brake surfaces, in wheel wells and undercarriage. Dealer says thats a common problem cause they put them in shrinkwrap to protect them, but the moisture being contained is a problem.
Also had 2 bad paint defects that somehow got through quality control that had to be repainted. Other than that I love it so far.

Does anyone know what model number wiper blade a 2003 Outlander XLS uses for the rear window wiper?
I can't find my owner's manual.
The automatic car wash ripped mine off!
Thanks.

Hi all Mitsi and Airtrek/Outlander fans.
Last weekend I saw my odometer hit serious middle age - 75,000 kilometres in my 2003 Airtrek Turbo. It's not quite 2 years old, so i guess the high ks mean I like driving it. I'm ready for my 3rd set of tyres.
It's a great machine for New Zealand roads which are hilly with lots of tight curves. When driving out of town I tend to select the tiptronic manual mode, as I'm sure the car likes it better. The speed limit here (when you're obeying it) is 100kmh and the Turbo Trek with the 5 speed auto isn't quite sure what to do with itself at that speed in top gear, i.e should it spool up the turbo or change down a gear? So I tend to run it in 4th. 120's no problem in top though and neither's 180 (which is as high as the speedo goes).
I'll post a snapshot of it on the site as soon as I wash the squished bugs off. It's standard (not modified) to protect the guarantees. It cost NZ$43,000 new, that's about US$30,100. What do you guys pay?

Last week I drove test a beautiful black Oultander.
The vehicle is a dream, with best response than RAV4, and really easy to control.
The only but, is that during the test drive, I made a sudden stop, from 25-35 mps; when the car came to a complete stop, there was a cracking noise coming from the breaks. I made the same test with a RAV4 and a CR-V, and it worked fine, with no noise at all.
The salesman told me a couple of days later the noise was produced by the ABS, balancing the wheel movement in order to stop in a straight line.
Is this what really happened? Has anyone in the Forum had a similar experience? Or should I assume it was the unit I drove that had a malfunction in the breaks? sustem?
Regards

Any diecast Airtrek or Outlander toys out there? I'm looking to buy one (preferrably red) for about $20 U.S.
What about Airtrek badging...or other things? If there are some state side things that foreign owners might be interested in, I'd love to help someone out and possibly work a trade. How about some XLS head rests with the holes in them. My head rests are solid but I'd like so see what I can get.
Anything out there?

I am looking at buying a 2003 Outlander but I have questions. Does it have an optional manual with clutch or do they simply go with the automatic version? Also, what are the prices for parts and service compared to something like Honda? Would a Lancer wagon give me the same kind of value compared to the Outlander?

I just bought a 2003 Outlander a few months ago. I am still in love with it. Its by far the best car Ive ever owned.
However, there is a little engine rattle, sort of chirping, on the passenger side of the engine during torque-y conditions. It only happens during acceleration up hill, or on the highway for example.
I took it to the dealer to have it checked out and they said it was nothing, just regular engine noise. Does anyone else have this sound and is it a big deal? It does not seem to be affecting my engine performance at all, its just kind of annoying. Please let me know if anyone has suggestions.

Ok, i guess you could consider me as a novice tuner as i have a 95 GS-T which runs high 13's nothing special i know im just trying to clear things up. My question is i just got an 04 outlander for the wife, it lacks some juice so i was planning on adding a intake and a 2 1/4 cat back exhaust, just to free up a couple of ponies. Well i was looking at the MAF and the stock air intake box, i have been hearing of people putting on open air filters on there outlander, or cone filter (k&n). But i noticed that on my 04 outlander the MAF and the stock air intake box are one piece, not bolted or clipped together at all, so how the hell are you guys putting on cone filters???? are you hacking the MAF and slipping on a cone filter like a K&n? I see that weapon-r makes the only intake for it, does the instrucitions tell you to cut the MAF????? If someone could help me that would be great. thanks

Whoa! I just got a 2004 Outlander on Dec. 23rd to replace my 2004 Scion XB. The Outlander 260 HP 2.4L 4 cylinder is the same as on the Ralliart Lancers and kicks tail!
The torque is sooo readily available at all RPM's making it quicker than other cars i've tried. I love it.
Now there's a turbo coming out in Europe!! Hey what about us?! 199HP and a massive 224 ft lb torque in that little Outlander? I'd kill myself, but have fun doing it.

Hi all,
Just picked up an 04 awd outlander (replaced my 99 outback 5sp with leaky internal head gasket issue), and I'm pretty happy with the value, but the ride comfort isn't quite what i'm used to. The ride is very joncy/busy, seams to feel every road bump (i read that the FWD has a softer ride) and it seems too tiring for long drives (even on "smooth highways") the way it is now. Would have gotten the FWD, but wanted the better traction/grip. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it just seems silly to live with it. Ive had sportscars (87'M6, 300zxtt) that had firm suspensions but not a busy ride. This feels very similiar to the Vibe I rented. Anyway, if anyone has sugestions I'd appreciate it, new struts/shocks or springs? Was even wondering if I could swap out with the FWD setup, but the weight difference of the AWD might be a problem.
Thanks,
Cory

HELLO TO ALL! We just got a '05 Outlander LS AWD black w/ appearance package on Dec. 23 and love it so far. We were looking at a few others, like the chevy equinox and nissan x-trail but with the better warranty and full time AWD & interest rates the mitsu was hands down the winner. Was really hoping to try the 5 spd before we got it but decided to go with the sportronic auto instead. We are now looking into a dvd player for the kids any one have any suggestions or pixs of installed units? thanks

GDay everyone!
I own a 2003 Outlander and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with fitting an ECU chip to enhance the performance characteristics of the engine. I was thinking of something like a Unichip that piggybacks on top of the standard computer chip and thus can be removed without altering any of the original wiring. Any input would be much appreciated, thanks!

Love my Outlander. Get great mileage - comfortable ride. Service department at the dealership has been extremely professional. Yes.......there have been recalls but they've all been addressed and fixed. Is there any car out there that hasn't had a recall? Was wondering if anyone else has to constantly put air in their tires. I've never experienced this before. My tires actually go flat for no reason. Have talked to the service department about this but they think I'm nuts. I check my tires once a week. While driving, I've had people stop me to let me know - "Hey, lady, your back tires are going flat!" Am I nuts?

I'm not knowledgeble about cars. I have a 2003 outlander.
I've read the manual to know where to put the jack if you have a flat.
My question is if you were to use a floor jack to put your car up on stands:
Put the stands were the manual indicates.
Where do you put the floor jack to lift the car?
I have this vision of thousands of dollars in damage.
Please keep your responses in very basic terms. You have
to excuse my ignorance, but I'm trying to learn.
Pictures would be ideal.
Thanks,
Jay

Or maybe a website you can recommend.
