About a year ago my power locks worked only intermittently. Sometimes they would just lock on their own. In the 2000 model you can turn the key twice to the right on the drivers door and it will unlike all doors. You can also look all doors by throwing the switch by the handle on the inside of the drivers door. None of that works now. The fuse is fine. When I try to lock the doors I hear a clicking sound down by the floor on the drivers side near the fuse box. If I remove the fuse it doesnt make the click sound when I hit the lock button. I took the door panels off and all the wires look fine. Any ideas what could be the problem? Thanks!

Hi Guys,
I have a 96 Mirage hatch and the central locking isn't working. I checked all the fuses in the main fuse box below the steering wheel and all the fuses seem fine. I assume there is a relay involved to unlock the passenger door but I can't locate it or even know what it would look like. I have looked at the diagrams on offer and it all looks like hieroglyphics to me.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may bring.

Hey my father just bought a 1990 colt 200 gt with 1.5 engine, runs excellant when up to temp. Hard time starting when cold, cant give it any gas pedle input, when it starts it does not rev up, engine compression is good, ive looked at the ecu and found it bad (burn't cap & has the smell). Found another ecu out of junkyard, same car & engine but it does not have exactly the same ecu components inside. That somewhat fixed our problem at first (started up alot easyier & didnt die with gas pedle input. We live in cold climate, its getting colder and its getting harder to start agian. im sure its something to do with cold start but i dont know where to look. thanks for any input.

My Car Has Been Acting Up At WOT every since it fell off those small ramps you use to gain access under your car.
it ran fine/perfect before that happened. The thing is after i came off the ramps i finished with my tune up and took the car around the block and it was sputtering and sounded like a go kart at any rpm. so i came back popped the hood and came to find one of the plug wires came off the distributor popped it back on and took another run , and noticed the car ran good as long as i didnt go WOT . When im in 2nd ill floor & get throw into my steeringwheel it will sputter/decelerate & the engine will sound like WAAAAAAAA!!!! When Its Decelerating and sometimes backfire. in say 4th ill go Wot and it will just sputter and not accelerate .. im stumped
WHAT IV DONE SO FAR
2X BRAND NEW PLUG WIRES AND PLUGS (gapping them what it says under hood , gapped them at the lowest and it seemed to help for a lil , but not much)
CAP AND ROTOR
MAF sensor from same car at junkyard / CLEANED OUT WITH MAF SPRAY
+ i have the records and receipts from the guy who sold me the car and he
replaced the whole Distributor about 2 years ago , Timing Belt 4 years ago , & Fuel filter a couple of months within selling me the car
looking at the all the receipts he took real good care of the car .
So im thinking its a Ignition problem , the shop was trying to tell my my vavles were bad and i thought that was BS ,
Im thinking the ignition timing is off or cam timing
HELP ME PLZ

For the last few days, I've noticed a distinct clicking noise from the front end driver's side. It stays consistent with speed (faster speed, faster clicking). I was doing about 45mph down the road, and pushed the clutch pedal in to see if there was any difference in the noise, and there wasn't. It doesn't change when the brakes are applied (aside from the clicking slowing down w/the car), and it doesn't change while moving down the road with it completely out of gear. I've had CV shaft issues with a past car, but the problem then was a clunking sound when I would make a turn (not currently an issue with the Colt). I had major trans. work done a few months ago, so that shouldn't be part of the problem.
I'm leaning towards a bad shaft, but the bellows are still in good shape (no tears or cracks). This car did sit for a number of years before I bought it (I was told that's why all my trans. seals were shot), but it's only got 51k original miles.
I have very little experience with this car so far, and would appreciate any insight as to what the cause of the noise is.
Thanks for the help.
Eric

I have a 2001 Mirage. After a long trip, my brake and battery lights came on. I went to a shop and had them test my charging system. They told me the alternator was bad, so I replaced it. After the replacement, the lights continued to come on, but intermittently. I took the new alternator out and had it tested as well as the charging system again at the shop. They said the new alternator might be defective, though it tested fine. I can try replacing it again, but I'm wondering if it's possible that I've overlooked something. I've read through other posts about similar problems, but haven't found a solution. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'v got a starting problem. my car has the 2.o liter and is awd, manual 5-spd. The first 2-3 times I try to start my car it will attempt to start and sometimes will start and run for about five seconds and the shut off. but if I try to start it more than 2-3 times, it will not get spark at all. I connected a spark plug light to the plug wires. and also grounded a spark plug to good ground. If I let it set for about an hour. I'll have spark again. I can hear the fuel pump and it smells of fuel so I don't think this could be the problem. any ideas ??? Thanks so much. Trevor

Hello,
I own a mitsubishi colt 4G13 engine 1.3L 12V 1996.
the engine light in dashboard sometimes lights on and goes, the car rides ok.
8 years ago i had an accident, the hood was replaced, the sticker disappeared.
Does anyone know if my Mitsubishi its "OBD II certified"?
If so, what its the best code reader for it?
Two days ago i bought a MaxiDiag JP701 (says compatible with mitsubihi 1996 models, but says always "error linking")
best regards

I'm a new member, but have been looking for months with no success.
I live in Greenville, SC. I'm looking for a 91-92 eagle summit/dodge colt (first gen). Not to be too specific, but I'd like it to be blue (factory color), 2dr hatchback, and MTX. 91 was the first year this was available.
looks like this:

here are the specs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Summit#....281989-1992.29What's the best way to find a particular car like that? I've tried a nationwide search (as best I could) of craigslist and other various used car sales sites. Please share any info you have. Thanks in advance.

I am changing my rear brake shoes. I have successfully done the left side, but the right side's brake drum won't come off. I have hit it many times with a rubber mallet, but all I have is just a little play. It seems like the shoes are inside a 'lip' of the inside brake drum or something like that.
Although I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage, my rear brakes (and drum) are not like the one illustrated in fig. 73 on p. 9-16 of the online manual. My brake drum does not have the two bolt holes for taking off the drum. My rear brakes are more like the 1988 and earlier Mirage models shown on pp. 9-12 to 9-15 in the Haynes manual. There seems to be no way to access the shoes or adjust them in so that they can clear the drum. (My parking brake is off. The outer wheel bearing and wheel bearing nut are off, but not the inside wheel bearing).
The only thing I can think of to get the drum off is to try to cut the head(s) of the shoe hold down spring pin(s) on the back of the backing plate. That might loosen the shoes enough to get them to move and get the drum off. What do you think?

We can get parts off another car but trying to find out if anyone knows where the sensor/control unit for the airbag is? I'm told these things are normally under the centre console in front of the gear lever. Can anyone confirm this?

Hello, I am very new here, and i have a strange request. A friend of mine has a 99 mirage DE sedan. one night her horn wouldnt stop honking. so i pulled the relay out from under the hood with the horn symbol on it. the horn stopped honking. i assumed it was a bad relay but it could be a stuck button i guess. anyway since then she lost the relay i pulled out. and i cant find a replacement, if someone could pop their hood and either send me a pic of the fuse box opened, or just post the PN for that fuse/relay. as i said before i identified it by the horn symbol on the top.
Thanks a bunch

I have a 01 mirage with a problem passing inspection. The check engine light works but does not come on to indicate there is a issue. The inspection says that my egr and cat system are in a not ready state. This is my second go at trying to get my car inspected both times it has failed. I took it to a mitsu dealership and They recommended the egr system be cleaned and cat converter be changed. Well, I had the egr system cleaned, drove the car over a hundred miles or so but, on the second inspection, the same issue. There is something preventing the computer from reading those 2 system
Anyone who has experienced this or knows what the problem is please give some advice on how to correct the problem
Thanks

My 1990 mirage will start and run fine when cold but after I drive it somewhere and let it sit for a few minutes it will not start, i have checked for spark at the coil wire and cap and there is a good arc to the cap so i know it is getting fire I also smell alot of fuel when it wont start. If I let it sit for 30 min to 1 hr it will start up right up again and runs fine. I initially ran codes with a analog volt meter and got a code 25 MAF sensor and a 45 but couldnt find that code , replaced the MAF and cleared the code but still having the same starting when hot problem, Could a bad fuel pump cause the problem even though I smell heavy fuel odors when it wont start? My next step is a fuel regulator that is located under the real seat, i have read this can cause this problem there is a test you can do so i may try that before i spend the 50 dollars, Does any one have any ideas ?
Thanks

I'm having problems starting my Colt Vista. It will crank and crank, I floor the accelerator, then let off like the manual says to, but that doesn't seem to help, takes nearly 5 minutes to start. I don't think my battery will hold out long like this. . but I occasionally hear a clicking sound from under the dash, and it will run then. when it does start, it runs good. Also, after its been running, if I take off the oil filler cap, there is lot of gas/smoke within the valve cover itself. Any help is greatly appeciated. I just got this vehicle a little while ago and don't know alot about them yet. Thanks. Trevor.

just sold my 17x8 rims as they scrubbed on my 98 mirage, has stock height suspension and stock shocks, and i dont want to roll the guards. ive seen a mirage around here on the central coast with 18s on it, im wondering would 18x7 or 18x7.5 fit using 195/40 80 fit without needing to modify the guards. The reason im steering away from modding the guards is the cars in perfect nick and the last car i seen that had its guards rolled looked dodgey ie cracked paint.
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine has an 81 Colt with a broken front spring. It is the L version (this is in Canada) which evidently is built lighter that the usual Colt. The front springs are a smaller diameter than on the regular Colt. When her repair people order springs they always get the larger ones which do not fit.
Does anyone have a part number and/or source for these springs?

Where can I purchase a timing kit for a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage Dingo chassis CQ2A with a 1.5L 4G15 DOHC engine? The local Mitsubishi dealer is failing to locate the correct timing belt for this car in their database. However, the dealer has managed to locate the other parts viz. Tensioner + spring + idler (which they can order).
The part number I have is MD365803.
From a google search, this timing belt belt is also found on the following vehicles: 1998+ 1.5L Lancer / Mirage with these part numbers: MD366043 / MD368413
According to some other supplier, the correct timing belt has the following characteristics (not sure if this is correct): 25mm, 141 Teeth, 8mm Tooth Pitch, Round Form

Recently got these online-
exhaust manifold 87-92 colt/mirage 1.5l $22.24 speedycarparts.com
exhaust downpipe (piece with the flex section) 87-88 colt/mirage 1.5l $50.72 theautopartsshop.com
front wheel bearing 85-92 colt/mirage (& various Hyundai well into 90's) $9.15 clearlyauto.com
and shipping was reasonable on all, too.
Manifold is China made, have used before and is good, put one in Colt before and this is for recent Mirage acquisition (apparently ALL of the original manifolds cracked in these cars, and these aftermarket ones are cast much more heavily in the middle where the problem was). Just check to see if O2 sensor will need a sealing washer added to keep tip off inner material, and shroud bolt holes may have to be cleaned out a bit. And comes with plugs for sensor hole (with washer you can transfer if needed) and AIR injection port in case you want to run without these (getting the AIR pipe out of the old header without damage is nearly impossible).
Downpipe is Canadian made (Bosal) nice quality, but has a nonstandard hanger extension that will not work directly with the stock hanger, and the heat shields have to be transferred from the old one of course (they are all like this). You can be quoted upwards of $200 for this in a parts store, so grab one if you think you will need it.
Wheel bearings are Chinese, but seem OK, and as you know generally these are getting kind of pricey lately (around $30 or so, as appear also on this site; note for some reason they only listed this one as "front inner" when outer are the same part) and you need two per side.
Interestingly, Rock Auto beats these sites on most other parts, but not these ones, though they sell a nice maniold kit with hardware and gaskets for around $60, and the Bosal pipe there is $57.
It pays to shop around !!

Just changed the trans oil in my '87 Mirage (mostly to get rid of the EP gear oil) and was surprised there is no magnet in the drain plug. Is there possibly some other location for a magnet that can be removed and cleaned ? This is the 5-speed. There is a bolt on the top of the casing that could be it, or just might be a plug for an elec component not used here; don't know. Also, will be changing fluid in my automatic. Any benefits to using the new (& expensive) Dexron VI (which does meet old Dexron II specs) or should I just stick to regular Dexron/Mercon (which is good up to Dexron III) ? And what's the deal with ATF+4, used in current Mitsubishi automatics I believe, besides its being very expensive also ?

now i just got a rebuilt 1.8 swapped into my 93 mirage
and it idles ok but the ac makes it idle rough, (which it did for the 1.5, so im not surprised)
but has anyone ever felt a slight hesitation after giving it a rev? its a very slight and short hesitation, but a hesitation none the less
by hesitation i mean the rpms drop below the idle and it almost feels like the engine is about to die, but it packs right back up, prbaly not even a seconds worth
i was told idle is controlled by the ecu, so could the ecu be going bad??

My 1995 Mirage idle seems to pulse like a heartbeat. What might be causing this?
