I'm going to install subs soon and the question is where to run power wire for the amp, it will be a 4 gauge wire.
Is it possible to run it without drilling into the fire wall? if not where is the best place to drill?
I searched for this, but it doesnt look like there is any topics on that.
so any help is appreciated
thanx

I recently purchased a Sirius satelite radio and got it installed professionally. After the install there is a whining sound from the engine and there is so much interference. Everytime I rev the engine the noise gets picked up by he radio. Has anyone has this problem also the unit is the starmate 4 if that helps.

Finally today I installed my Alpine W505 which comes with a 7" screen (whole face plate is motorized) and used scocshe kit to install it.
Well didn't go as planned, the faceplate was getting stuck while ejecting cd by pressing itself against the top of the kit.
I tried two things to solve the problem and it worked perfectly.
1. Trimmed off the top plastic piece of the kit so the screen would have some more space to move when it's opening, had to take off about 5mm using dremel
2. Had to bore out screw holes on the stock brackets 1-2mm (the ones close to the faceplate) This way unit would angle down few degrees, and would give some more space for the screen to move around.
Now for ppl with the same issue, try the second method first before you will start cutting into things, might be the only thing needed for it to angle properly.
I had only one kit available so had to try cutting first, and adjusting the angle after.
Just take your time on boring, make test fitments before making the screw hole bigger, assuming that aftermarket kits are poor quality and might have different fitment angles.
Hope that helps, no pics of the installed product yet, will have to snap one this weekend on how the cut out kit looks, so maybe more ppl will try to avoid this method. But seriously the gap is not really noticeable unless you look under there.

When I bought my car new I got the Sirius for free like most of you for 6 months. After that ran out they sent me a deal in the mail:
3 months for $12.95....sure why not....that's pretty cheap!
3 months ran out & they gave me another deal like above.....
That ran out & I didn't cancel or anything & they were charging me $12.95 a month.
The other day I called up & told them I wanted to cancel & they promised a great deal.....I laughed......guess I laughed too soon.
I got them to do 5 months for $19.95....some how I still had a credit on my account & I ended up getting it for $15.48.
Not saying that everyone that calls will get the $19.95 deal....but ask them & keep asking if they can do better. That was the best I could get out of them. It's a luxury that alot of people are not opting to have anymore.......so Sirius & XM are also feeling the pinch.....so do what you can to weasle any kind of better deal out of them that you can.
Happy motoring & keep it rockin!

I just bought an Eclipse avn 726:
Along with a 10" Boston G3 sub
A pair of Boston SPZ 50.
And a Audison SRX5 Amp to power everything.
My favorite car audio store was having a sale today, I picked up the Boston speakers and sub for half price; the amp was 30% off, I think I did pretty good, the only 'ouch' factor was the navi system, $1250.00, but,...what the hell, its my baby!

Does anyone know what is wrong with my FAST key?
All of a sudden none of the buttons work on my FAST key but I could still grab the handle to have the door automatically unlock and could turn on the car without inserting the key.
It wasn't the battery because my spare key which I've never really used had the same problem.
I took it into the Mitsu dealer and they tried to sort it out but in the process, the problem worsened and the door handle sensor and ignition sensor don't work now so I have to take the key out of the fob to open the door and start the car.
They ordered two new fobs but i don't know if that's the problem or something in the car's electronics.
Anyone else experienced this or know what is going on?

Thought this would be an intsresting topic to discuss. Maybe some users can find a better setting for their stereos.
I have the stock Rockford Fosgate system (sun & sound, nav & tech packages)
I have found my setting to be good at:
Rap sound type
Live sound field
Punch setting at 1-2 clicks below max
bass at 1-2 clicks below max
mid right between middle and max
treble 1-3 clicks above the mid range setting
Speakers are set to center (not faded either front/back or left/right)
to me it sounds balanced, not too piercing and a good support from the bass.
I have a well rounded music taste which includes r&b, pop, acoustic, country etc.
So whats your favorite settings?

Hi All,
New user to this forum.
When I select AUX input, I get "Hissing" sound from the speakers; even before I connect my iPod to it. Although, I can connect my iPod and listen to music but with "Hissing" sound in the background. Does anybody else experience this problem? Anybody know how can I get it fixed?
Thanks.

I have a 09 GTS I just got a few weeks ago. I rarely listen to the radio but my GF wanted to listen and we noticed the reception was bad. I Checked the antenna...which was recessed into the housing. It has a blue plastic plug like screw that will unscrew...but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the antenna to extend. I looked through both the car manual and the Navi manual but can ony find how to remove it if it's already extended...
I know it's going to be something simple...but I am prepared to look like a fool!

Hey all, I finally got my subs in to find out how Lancers trunk lid handles 800rms of power, well all i have to say not so good, it shakes like a sheet of paper, rear deck is about to jump out and break in half at that kind of power. I turned down subs down to 400rms interior sound quality is fair but not the best since that rear deck plastic piece still rattles sometimes.
So here I came to the point where I need to soundproof my trunk and rear deck, what are the options out there?
Since I don't have a big budget what is the possible best way to go?

I'm going to be upgrading my sound system in the near future. Not the traditional way either. I'm probably going to keep the stock speaker/amp/sub/head combo that's in my VRX (GTS for the USA), but augment that with an in-car PC. I'm going to be building a Mini-ITX PC with a 500Gb HDD (and yes, I have that many mp3's) and I'll be plugging the audio straight into the amp, splicing where the RCA's go in (I'll have to work out where that is on the amp, but that will come later) and the AV I/O will be via a 7" touchscreen mounted to the dash.
In the time being before I get all this set up, I'm using my laptop plugged into the RCA ports in the dash. My question is, every time I turn on the car when I've been playing CD's, it's automatically in CD mode. But If it was on AUX mode, it just reverts to the radio when turned back on. Is there any way I can set the head unit to retain the AUX mode when powered off/on again? When I eventually get this setup it will be a real pain in the ass if I have to hold down the CD button for 5 seconds every time I get in the car.

Hi all, I'll be the proud owner of a GTS s&s in the next week or so, and I'm so exited!!
Has any one here tried the last ipod touch firmware v3 update for gen2 with the lancers bluetooth hands free? does it work to stream stereo audio through it? Thanks.
more info
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/iPod-Touch-Blu...,news-3642.htmlHere is the key factor, does the Lancer have Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) build into the hands free, for stereo high quality audio stream over bluetooth?

Ok so I had very little trouble with this breif install. The most trouble was actually locating the right materials for this.
First pick up some switches preferably with a cover, you will see why in the end.
I picked these LED switches with C/F covers up on ebay for pretty cheap.
[attachment=10603:13.jpg]
You will also need some sort of backing for the mounting, I picked up a fiberglass liscense plate cover for a buck 99 at walmart.
Time for the work.
First you have to remove the panel right below the steering column.Its very easy, just 2 Phillips head screws and a little tug and the clips pop right out.
[attachment=10592:2.jpg]
[attachment=10591:1.jpg]
Next you will see this bracket with three screws holding it up behind the panel. This is where the original knockouts use to be but i had previously taken them out so they are not in the picture ( use you imagination)
[attachment=10593:3.jpg]
Remove it.
[attachment=10594:4.jpg]
Place it on the Material of your choice ( for the rest of the post I will just refer to it as the fiberglass)
[attachment=10595:5.jpg]
Trace it out
[attachment=10596:6.jpg]
Next I used a dremell with a cuting disc to cut out the fiberglass that I traced.
[attachment=10597:7.jpg]
You then have to trim down the edges so that it fits where the old bracket came out of, so that it sits on the inside of the screw holes so you can get as clean of a fit as possible.
Next, with the fiberglass in the back of the panel look through the front and line up where you wnat the switches to be and mark them out, I found that closer the the bottom is better.
You then want to use a drill bit to drill out the holes where the switch will mount. And its ok if it looks messy, it wont show from the front.
[attachment=10598:8.jpg]
[attachment=10599:9.jpg]
I then used JB WELD to seal the fiberglass into place, make sure you go all around and seal all cracks to get a nice clean seal.
[attachment=10600:10.jpg]
All thats left is to put the switches in and mount the covers on them. Then replace the panel and your done, Now you have some extra switches to run whatever you need to, in my case Im installing some neons ( interior and underbody) on one switch and saving the other 2 for later mods. I just thought ide install them all for a uniform look.
[attachment=10601:11.jpg]
[attachment=10602:12.jpg]
Their not exactly 100% aligned in the pics but I did straighten then out. just too lazy to go take another pic.

I was at the dealership the other day & the parts guy tells me that he just got the new update in for the Navi system.
It is "supposed" to be updated to like May of 2008......wow I say...still not 2009?! Don't you mean 1908? My system doesn't have a map pointer...it has a horse & carriage....dirt roads.. LOL.
One of his buddies just bought the update......darn thing costs around $175?!!! He told me that their cost is $139 on it. I told him that if he can ever get it for around $100 I would consider, but otherwise way too much $$$$.
Anywho.......His friend is taking a trip & will let the parts guy know....who will let me know......& then I will post back on here.....how he likes it & if there are the so called improvements on the software or not. It is supposed to have better everything about it.....yeah right.....we'll see.
I told him @ Mitsu's asking price that they probably won't sell many if any more. You can buy a brand new portable Garmin fully updated or other brand if you like for less than their outdated update. He agrees but said that that is how Mitsu is....goofy with their pricing.
Once I hear something I will report back ASAP!

Recently i found out that the AC for my 08 Lance isn't working. So i went to mitshubishi to get it fix. They said that it didn't have a dye and so they put a dye which cost $160 dollars. Now they said that it is does not work because i have some electrical wiring problem with my AC. So now they are charging me $90 dollars an hour to get the wiring fix. They don't know how long it will take they have to find out the problem.
So now am stuck with no AC. Does anyone know where i can get my AC fix instead of the mitshubishi dealer.?

Alright, so i took the liberty of posting pictures and giving a small how to to set up your amp and speakers with the stock head unit.
I searched everywhere to find the speaker colors that coordinated with the head unit to the doors. And nothing, So ill show u how to find out.
Also ill post up how to run your wire through your car with No interference.
Okay so i love the stock head unit. And how i can control everything from my hand on the steering wheel. So i dont want to buy aftermarket. The kit in Canada cost about 70$ ish at a dealer and not much less through ebay. If you decide to go aftermarket you will loose your bluetooth and remote volume/changer.
Okay first off, Running your Power cable. Run it like in the picture, Using some sort of tie to fasten it to wires. Not hoses or pipes.
[attachment=10621:0517090956a.jpg]
Take a peak around the furthest left upper back side of the bay. In behind your spring housing, You will see a little Black Grommet.
[attachment=10616:0517090957.jpg]
Take that out.
[attachment=10617:0517090955.jpg]
You will need also to access the other side through the glove compartment. If you dont know, Take off the glovebox by detaching the slow down rod", And point it at the floor, and pull outward. Itl just come right off.
[attachment=10619:0517090956.jpg]
[attachment=10618:0517090954a.jpg]
Once you pop the grommet out, and run your wire threw the bay like so. Your on your own. I ran my wires through the right side kicker panels up under my rear seat. Looked flawless.
Now, How to get RCA signal to your amp.
Use a decent Inline RCA converter you can buy at your local audio shop. Should have a Left and right + and - Wire to connect to your speakers.
Now because i only installed a subwoofer. And used a 2 channel amp bridged. I just needed to tap into my front left and right speakers. If your using 4 channel amp you might want to tap into the back like it asks. Dont think it matters though
First thing to do is figure out what color of wires your left and right speakers are. To do this you have to take a couple panels off. For ease in manufacturing, Mitsubishi uses Green and yellow to distinguish positive(green) and negative(yellow) in all their speakers in the doors. What you have to do is take off the kicker panels of either side, and then the panel just ahead of it by your feet. In behind there there is a little plugin board. Follow the green and yellow wires into the board, And take note of the colors that come from the mirror side of it. Example: Right side speaker wires are black and pink i think. Heres a pic of where its behind.
[attachment=10622:0517090951aa.JPG]
Once you have the speaker colors, you can tie the rca converter into the wires at the head unit and run them to the back of the car yourself.
Other than that, Im pretty sure the rest is common sence, So good luck!

My question is, watching DVD's while driving can be hacked, can the same be done for the AUX mode?
For example, I can watch videos from my iTouch on AUX mode while the car is not in motion, but just like DVD's as soon as you start driving it will not work.
Is it hackable??

using this thread - HOW TO: Install factory Navigation into a NON-NAV Evo 10
Using these part numbers
nav unit - MZ360180EX or MZ360192EX
install kit - MZ360141EX OR MZ360151EX
I just want to ask if this works for the 2008+ lancers. Need to know quick because the Canadian Salesmen and managers have told me this is the WRONG part numbers for my 2009 sportback GTS (i live in canada) is there anything thats different from a sportback and evo wiring/harness?
using
http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/catalog/?section=659 the nav unit and install kit are under Ralliart. Does this mean the Nav unit and kit won't work in normal lancers?

I dont want to mess with the R/F system too much just add to it. I was thinkin to have 2 6x9 3 ways and 2 6.5 inch mini subs installed on the back panel behind the back seat. I think that this will really compliment the system well and will add that extra punch that the stock system lacks. But I have the navi package and i dont know where to hook the necessary amps to. im totally lost. I tried looking it up but no luck here.
If i tap the signal off a rear speaker will it cause that speaker to lose power?
And I think all I would need is maybe a 1200 watt amp with 4 outputs. the mini subs are like 200 watts rms a piece running a 2 ohm and for the 6x9's Im looking for something like 300-400 watts rms a piece.
any suggestions or opinions?
any input is very helpful
Thanks

Hey guys just a quick question.
Did anyone install alarm/remote starter combo on the SE model?
The reason i want to do it is that i'm installing indash dvd player and some other audio upgrades.
I dont think stock alarm will protect the car from being broken into at all, since it's only works if the door is open.
Plus a remote starter would be a great thing to have.
What are good systems out there around $300 ???
Thanx for any help.

I had the NAVI unit installed after my 09 GTS was purchased by a Mitsubishi dealer her in Indy. I quickly noticed that they didn't change the 2 input (left/right) auxilliary input to a 3 to include video. They said they had no way of doing that. Anyone else have this issue. I am talking about the AUX inputs behind the 12V charger input on the console, well below the actual unit.... Make sense?? They said it was built into the main wiring harness. True or BS?

Just picked up the majority of my new audio system for my car minus the amps which I'll be picking up end of this week or next week.

Got everything for $215 (Sub, Components, Coaxials, and mono amp) so far so I figure I'm doing pretty good on cost

I will be installing it all myself because I enjoy doing this kind of stuff plus I will post craploads of pictures for others to use. Install will most likely happen 2 weeks from now after I pickup the multi-channel amp.
Anybody got any ideas on the sub box placement in the trunk? I was thinking of putting the box on the left or right side of the trunk with the amp mounted in the middle inside a custom made plexiglass enclosure. Then later on I'd add another sub on the opposing side to give it a nice symmetrical look.

Does it separate from the dashboard piece so that something can be installed after, or it comes out as one whole piece together with the panel

hi, i was wondering if it would be a good idea to add ANOTHER sub to the rockford fosgate system in my lancer.
it would be a different brand but most likely another 10".
would i need another amp and would it sound any good?

This is more for the people who do not have the ESC option on their vehicles:
http://www.chooseesc.eu/en/news/mandatory.htmA small article but the jist is that Canada and the US (if not already) are following the EU in making the ESC system mandatory in all vehicles. My question for the community: Is it possible to install an aftermarket (or dealership) ESC system? I know it can be costly if possible, but with my driving history, it may be worth in looking into it to reduce my insurance rates. Any and all information will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Regards.

I got my stuff done a few months back, but felt like putting up some pics tonight.......
It was a pain in the butt to wire everything, lol! actually for me it was, my friend's a pro and walked me through everything.

The Power ( Alpine PDX5 ) so much power, its sweeeeetttttt!

Before Shot of old stock Nav, that might I say that I sold for $1400 on ebay, LOL!

I know I know, I need to take a day shot and not a night one, but I still think it looks good. I kept the Rockford kit on it but I eventually took of the sticker. its a Alpine IVA-W203/P1

I know, another dark shot, but the Alpine Type R did not go in easy. My friend sliced the back of the stock rockford box and custom fiber glassed it, but after he was done, the job looked like factory and I did not lose any trunk space and boy does it KNOCK!!!!!!

I just recently purchased my 2008 lancer that i always wanted but i dont have a manual yet that comes with the car so i am needing some help with something. I have a stock system in my car and love to play MP3 CD's. on these CD's i like to put music into folders to seperate my songs but i have no idea how to switch from the different folders on my stock player in my car. Can anyone help me on how i can do this?

Hey all! It's time to replace that basic stock audio unit for me. For now i'm looking at Pioneer AVIC z3
Has anyone installed that unit in a lancer?
I didnt remove the stock deck yet, and just want to make sure that there is enough space for z3 to fit before i go ahead with anything.
Another reason why i decided to ask here is because pioneer doesnt include it into compatible unit for the 08 lancers.

I have an 08 Lancer GTS with the audio, sun, and Nav package. A buddy of mine installed my system (see pics). I know this question has more than likely been posted, but would like clarification. I have 2 small amps, one is a Pioneer 400w and the other is a Kenwood 320w (which has gone out on me

)I also have a 3sixty installed.......This is an absolute must for any system.
Ok my question...What are the stock speakers wattage? My 400w amp (Which controls my mids and highs) is only turned up 1/3 so i dont blow my speakers. My 320w controls the sub. I plan on replacing both amps down the road as well as the speakers.
What would be the best (cost wise of course) speakers to put in my car. I mean ALL speakers, tweeters included.
Thanks in advance...
