Hey guys, created this to see all your lancer's mods. Post some pics so I can get more ideas.
I've made some subtle changes to mine (non of which will make the car faster), still waiting to get the RRM intake, and a set of winter tires and umm.. maybe some tint.
mods:
1. 6000k HID Kit for low beams.
2. Clear license plate covers
3. White interior lights.
4. White License plate lights
5. Ralliart Sticker

Just wondering what problems you all might have had with your Lancers so far? I've had the no start problem...still have it on occasion. The biggest ptoblem I have is the **** trunk leaks and the dealer sucks so it's up to me to fix. I can't seem to find it though, need to get a small person to lay in trunk so I can close it and hit it with water

anyone else have problems?

d4mn, I almost got a heart attack yesterday.
My last car was a Civic with one way insurance $500/year.
Yesterday I walk in to Allstate and a Polish lady kills me with a $1560/year on a lancer full coverage. I almost jumped out of the chair.
I had to go and have couple

afterwards to cool off.
I never new insurance rates for mitsus are that high.
What are you paying guys?

I was wondering if anyone has, or is about to go into arbitration about the paint on the sides of their car getting "sandblasted" while driving. Any details you can share?
Dealership argued with Mitsu for 2 days over the cost to repaint the sides of my car but they refused to pay for it. Mitsubishi is taking the stance that it's caused by "road conditions".
Dealership told me they would repaint the skirts and touch up the doors for $125 but that it wouldn't do any good unless I put mudflaps on at the same time.
They claim that they can reverse the rear mud flaps that Mitsu sells so that they fit the front (I think that is BS) and that the set of four installed would be $140. Basically what their telling me is that if I want to have and keep paint on the sides of my car I'll have to cough up $265.
Oh yeah, and if a panel rusts out because I don't have this "maintenance" done then the corrosion warranty is worthless.
The streets and highways where I live would be considered average at the very least and above average when compared to other cities. We don't get a lot of snow, all of the roads are paved and there's no desset or beach nearby.
My question to Mitsubishi is "exactly what kind of road conditions was this car designed for?" If it can't take average road conditions without serious damage to the finish then that tells me there is a problem with their design.
I'm thinking arbitration right now but if there's enough of us with this problem then perhaps a class action law suit would get their attention.
Sorry....PO'd and ranting.

Ok, so I've been a member of the forums for a few months now. Joined so I could do some homework on the new lancer. I have since test drove 7 cars and have decided that the new lancer beats them all. I have settled on getting the '09 Lancer GTS (yes with the 2.4 liter engine) in a manual transmission. Since I have been lurking the forums, I have noticed that there are some issues with the new lancer. I know this and accept this, so please don't rant here. I will list the problems I have come across and then ask a couple of questions.
Known problems: 1. Paint seems to chip very easily; 2. Trunk may be hard to close, and in using extra force it rubs the rear bumper.; 3. The relays with the CVT tranny go bad; 4. Sometimes the trunk leaks
I think those are all of the ones I found on here. Feel free to add to this list and keep me aware. Now for the question.
Does anyone know if these issues have been addressed for the '09 model year? The issue I'm worried most about is the paint. If it hasn't been addressed, what suggestions could you give for making the paint last a little longer, especially from road debris?
The trunk issues don't bother me so much, and if it leaks, I'll just fix it myself. I shouldn't have the tranny issue since I plan on getting the manual anyway.
Any and all help is appreciated, and as I said before, please don't rant about an issue in this thread, I'm here for info. Thanks.

During full acceleration the steering may pull to one side, has this ever happened to anyone of you with your 2008 Lancer?
I want to hear from people with more experience driving this car since I'm new with cars motors and performance, and before taking the car to the dealer for an inspection.

One day I was messing around with the info screen on the dash, and I accidentally reset the service counter (the one saying how many miles and months left till my next service). I called my dealer and they said they don't know exactly how to put it back to what it was without seeing it, but they told me to come in to take a look at it. Does anyone know how to do this?
And also, everyone who rides shotgun in my car is P.O.'d about my door being the first one to be unlocked when I grab the handle. I have the FAST key, but I don't have the navi. I read through the manual, but I do not understand how to set how the doors unlock when you grab the driver side handle. Help?

I assume this is normal, because it happens at the same time all the time. Anyway, when I turn on my Lancer, and put it into drive, all is well. As soon as I start moving though, and I get to...uhhh I guess 5mph it makes this weird scraping noise. It almost sounds like when you scratch the bottom of your car against either a curb or dip in the road. Its always at the same time, and only when I turn the car on. If I stop at a light, it will not make this noise again. It is brief, and only happens when I first drive off from being parked.
Once more thing, I have the GTS with S&S and Navi, are the doors automatically suppose to lock when you drive off? I thought most if not all cars now a days with automatic locks would do this, mine does not do this.

With the winter coming, I started to think about getting a proper floor mats that will fit our car best.
The floor mats I have right now are too small for the back seat and always get pushed under the front seat, I'm pretty sure everyone had to deal with this problem at some point, with the salty mess at the back seat, that looks really nasty on black carpet.
What type of mats do you use that are suitable for the back placement? Dealer mats?

In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year, so there will be information on new models sooner when enough owners sign up promptly.
Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.
To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results free of charge.
Details:
Vehicle reliability researchComments, questions, and suggestions welcome.

I decided to change my intake filter to K&N or to similar brand, but I don't think RRM website mentions the diameter of the pipe to order correct filter size .
Anyone had to order replacement filter? whats the size filter should I order?

I found this website and video while surfing around and thought it was interesting. They took a ralliart sportback and a wrx and added similar mods to each and put them to the test.
One thing I really thought was interesting was when the professional driver talks about how he prefers the manual tranny of the wrx to the SST tranny of the lancer. He says the SST is fussy, fights the driver, and also affects the lancers braking due to the SST loading up during deceleration. Also talks about running out of brakes on the lancer before they upgraded the brakes. Maybe that's a reason why the gts beats the ralliart in braking. I've read other articles saying similar things about the SST tranny. I wish mitsu would change their thinking and make a manual ralliart. He didn't have much negative to say about the wrx, but does say the ralliart is flatter in the corners than the wrx, I assume he means the wrx has more body roll.
In the end it's a pretty even match. Check it out here:

Hey ya'll... just in case anyone was ever wondering, yes I am still alive!
My 2008 Lancer isn't though. I rear ended a Nissan Pathfinder and the car is a total loss.
[attachment=11656:oops2.jpg] [attachment=11657:oops.jpg]
My insurance is going up around 300 dollars a year, which kind of sucks, but I'm getting a brand new Lancer from the insurance company.
Getting a 2009 GTS with S&S + Leather, manual transmission.
Unfortunately they didn't have any of the colors I liked left, so I'm getting a white one again.
Will probably stick the AEM CAI, the Magnaflow Exhaust, and the TWM Short Shifter back on the 2009.
I might get some dynos done, but not for a while cause money is rather tight right now...

Thank you for saving my ass. haha. Went up to Walgreens in a grumpy mood to return a movie to a Redbox. I parked behind a Mazda 6 about to return the movie. Then I see the guy's reverse lights come on, and backs up with some speed to it. I was thinking to myself, I don't think this guy sees me.... And next thing I know, BOOM. Dude backs up into me. I honk my horn for a good 15 seconds showing him that I was PISSED. I step out of the car swearing my ass off and he's like sorry man didn't see you... He was a dad with his family in the car. I looked at my car, looked at his. I said, "Uh... do you see anything?" His car had a big gash in the paint on the back bumper. My car had nothing. I asked him if he sees where it got hit, but we couldn't find a damn thing..... I told him, "Whatever man I can't see anything so it's fine". Took his plate number and went home... And now I'm thinking to myself... where's the scratch?!??! Who knew that a $6 can of Plasti Dip can save yourself a new paint job on a bumper... This stuff's tough!

Hey all, just wanted to post a pic of my Lancer VR-X (GTS Equivalent here in Australia) debadged. Completely clean now.
I took the "VRX" and put it inside the car, where the carbon fibre trim is, on the left side (passenger side over here).
(PS: Ignore the big "L" plate. lol! I haven't converted my Malaysian license to Australian yet)

As for the exhaust kit. A friend of a friend just found me a really experienced modding shop here. He's going to get me an HKS Carbon-Titanium full exhaust kit, from the extractor onwards. It will be fabricated and customized for the 4B11. Also a Cool Air Intake system. Will be getting the **** done sometime late Dec or first week of Jan. I'll post more when I get more info.

Anyone have any good ways of debadging a car?
My friend told me to use a hairdryer and it would come off
but his car looks like crap because it left a fade where the letters used to be
HOw do you do this right??
EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT
Though I would try to put some common sense into it and it came out good
Materials:
hairdryer or heat gun
dental floss and better off with something a little stronger but thin
wd-40
Meguiers wax
Clay bar kit.
I took extra precautions so I noe there would be no fade or anything
Stood there with the hairdryder for about 5 minutes
Floss in between the car and badges
IT left some nasty thick glue that was mad hard to get off. Apparently wd-40 has over 1000 different jobs, one being loosening adhesives. A couple of sprays and soem elbow grease, came right off.
I clayed bar'd the car to make sure all cataminents were off
Then wax it to a pearly shine
I took of the dealer sticker which was easy
Then I took off the mitsubishi and lancer on the bottom corners of the trunk
Still debating whether I should take off the mitsu badge...but eh....I kinda like it there...I might swap it for a carbon fiber one or a red one that they sell on ebay.
Heres a pic

IMO it looks so much better without the badges, and u can't even tell that there was even anything there....flawless

I'm trying to create a poll and see how many of Mitsubishi Lancer 08+ owners have cracked or chipped windshields.
The reason why I'm doing this poll is because 1 month after getting my Lancer last March, I ran it through the car wash for the first month, after that I decided to wash it for the first time by hand. To my surprise while rincing it, the windshield just cracked from under the trim right up the middle. I went to 2 dealerships and they both said that there was a small chip and that's what caused it.
About 2 days ago I was brushing off the snow off my car and I see another crack, this time caused by a stone chip, but it spread so fast and up about mid-way on the right side.
What's the purpose of this stupid pole you ask? If I find out that significant people have faulty windshields, I'm gonna contact Transport Canada and ask them to do a safety test on my windshield and see if it passes safety standards. I've had plenty of cars in my life from doughmestics to Honda's etc. I've never seen a windshield crack as fast and as much as my Mitsubishi.
If I can gather up signifigant evidence and prove it to Transport Canada or see what their safety tests come up with I'll advise everyone on the board and proceed from there.
Thanks for the input.
Brian.

Parents said I was gonna go to the dealership and test drive a red ES, got there and the filipino manager pulled up in a white gts, gave me the keys, and said, "Your parents tricked you. Heres your car". I nearly had a heart attack on the spot. Well anyways, car is AMAZING. Quality is superb, and ride quality is... well.. SUPERB-ER. Thank GOD I got the GTS. Love the fact that the rear wing is half of the mirror's view LMAO. Upgrades to come are Injen CAI, Plasti-Dipped front end, tints, and... idk! But yeah. Been on the board for a while, just got the car now hahaha. Here's my baby. His name is Princess. Yeah he's gay.

I have a question for anybody that can help me. I have an 08 Lancer that is giving me some problems with the ignition switch. When you remove the keys from the ignition and turn the steering wheel slightly it locks as most cars do these days, but it gives me too much trouble trying to get it unlocked. I move the steering wheel clockwise and turn the key, but the key won't turn. Has anybody else had any problems? I've actually gotten blisters trying to turn the key

I've been careful not to break anything though. The car also sits on a flat road and is a manual tranny in case that makes a difference. For those of you that work in dealerships, any idea what kind of costs I'd be looking at if it needs fixing/replacing?

I just picked up my 2009 Lancer GTS 3 days ago and for another 11 days I will have the dealers plates on before I register my car and get plates of my own. Now, I don't want to just get any license plate with random numbers and letters, I would like something custom but I really have no idea of what to do. I keep drawing blanks so I thought I would start a forum open for discussion looking for ideas, so lets hear them....???? Thanks for the help.

Hey Everyone!

I am new to these forums but have been watching them for a long time now and decided to join for a bit of advice!
I currently drive a 1992 Chevrolet Astro (4.3ltr V6) van and it has been in my family since we purchased it new. I will be turning 20 soon and am currently attending a junior college and will transfer to a 4 year university in 2 years. For the age my van is, its in really good condition. My dad was a professional mechanic so we are always able to fix everything on it at the cost of only parts. But it has had its fair share of problems, just nothing engine related. I just replaced the entire braking system last month and put on all new tires, cost for both was $1600. Ouch, for a kid in college working part time that's a lot of money!! Since then no problems, rides smooth and mostly everything works!
I just herd about the "Cash For Clunkers" program that was just signed by Obama a little while ago, I could potentially get $3500 to $4500 bucks if I give my van to a dealership so they can melt it down and get its gas guzzling engine off the road. I have to buy a new car though to get this financial benefit. So I was looking at the 2009 Lancer GTS. I am hoping I can get a GTS for $17,000, subtract $3,500 or $4,500, plus a $2,000 down payment and I would be left with around 12,000 to pay off. Then I could have manageable monthly payments, hopefully around $200 to $250 bucks. My question is, should I do it? My van could last me forever, maybe a little fix here and there, or it could blow the tranny on me and I would be dead in the water. 90% of the time I am the only one in it, but sometimes I tow my trailer to go dirt biking or take 8 friends to the beach. So having a van is extremely convenient! Just not when it comes to 12-14 miles a gallon and being 18 years old. But also, higher insurance and a monthly payment is also not fun with a new car.
This is a very hard choice for me to make because I love my van a lot and its in good shape considering, but I don't want to miss this opportunity to get 3500 or 4500 off of a new car price or have my van crap out on me. I love the way the lancer looks, not a big fan of the back end but the front end is awesome! I have been prowling these forums for a while and based on what you guys say, it should be a great car for me! I want the GTS cause its only a little bit more than the base model so its well worth it. So, should I scrap my van and get a new car? Or should I keep it and see where it takes me? Thank you in advance for the help!!
Sincerely,
Kyle

Hi. I have an 09 Lancer ES.
I'm going to tint my own windows. I did on my previous car, and they actually came out pretty damn good, but it was a REAL pain..
I read somewhere that you it's much easier to just remove the door panels and tint the windows and then just replace them. That seems to make perfect sense to me, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble, or what exactly comes off.
1st question, upon removing the door panel, would I also be able to remove the weatherstripping?
When replacing everything, it should all fit and look good as new, correct?
How would I go about removing the panels? I would assume it's pretty straight forward, but I don't want any surprises.
Is it a good idea to remove the panels just to tint the windows?
Thanks. I did a search, but came up with zero.

Wasn't sure if this is supposed to be under General or Suspension...
I noticed last week that my GTS pulls to the left..I got it with 212 miles and had 700 when I noticed the pull. On my commute there are no pot holes or hard bumps.
I called the Dealer's service dept and he suggested that the tire pressure was low. Logical. I checked it and sure enough, each tire was at 21psi...so I brought each to 41psi...still pulled to the left.
I called back and made an appointment for today. I show up at 8am and at 12pm the car is ready. I get in and drive off and sure enough it pulls to the left. I get on the freeway to verify on a flat road and it pulls.
I go back to the service dept and they send the car back to the alignment shop...later, at 5:30...yes I've been there all day...the manager comes to me and explains that the alignment shop says that they have aligned it to 08 specs and that they don't have the 09 specs..?..the Manager wants me to bring it back in during the week, but I can spend another day out of work. So I say I'll bring it in satuday...so he says he will do a cross-rotation of the wheels..
Now, my question is, if after Saturday the car still pulls...what would my options be? Do I ask them to take it to another shop? Could I ask for another car?
Thanks

Hi everyone, as the title says I will soon be an owner of a 2009 Lancer GTS. The dealership is ordering it in for me, I just put the $1,000 deposit down yesterday... I even have a set of winter tires purchased for it alredy and I don't even have it yet. Everyone at work has been giving me a hard time about that one, I guess it is a little funny. Anyways, I have been talking to the sales guy at my dealership about the mud guards. He seems to think that they don't fit properly on the GTS with the side skirts. I have checked on the Mitsubishi Canada website, and they have 2 different types of front mud guards, one for the side air dam and the either without. I have tried to do a search in the forums and I found something, but the pictures that were posted were not very helpful. Just wondering whether or not the mud guards fit the GTS side skirts properly... I think I would rather trust Lancer owners on the fit and appearance of them than the salesman. Any insite or suggestions for me are very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
I have a 2008 Lancer 1.5 Mivec Auto...I got it last November. Ever since I got it, it has a loud noise when accelerating. It does have a high exhaust sound whenever I put my foot down and it starts at around 2000rpm and keeps on going as I accelerate. When I hold a certain speed this sound goes, so it only happens when accelerating.
When I took for the service check, they said its normal. They checked the air filters, the exhaust system and everything is good.
So I was wondering is this normal and if theres any way to get rid of it. I dont know much about the mechnical workings, but its as if the noise comes from the part where the exhaust is connected to the engine itself.
Any help, any advice??
Thanks in advance

I always used Penzoil Platinum full syntetic oil on my Lancer, but I usually get mixed opinions on it, some say it's amazing oil, some say it only works the best with domestic vehicles which I find hard to believe.
What do you guys use?

Hey Guys, I know I've been posting more lately. I'm just excited that I'm actually driving our Lancer now since we got my wife another car. Anyways, I have an '09 Graphite Gray GTS. I'd like to swap trunk lids and spoilers with someone that has the same color car and a lip spoiler, (maybe an ES?). I don't mind driving a couple hours to meet someone. I am in the East Tennessee area.

Hello, I`m a newbie and I`m sorry if this is explained somewhere here already, but I failed to find it.
I have a Mitsubishi Lancer 08 and yesterday I noticed that the engine light was on. Since the car didn`t come with a manual I`m totally clueless of what the light could mean. Of course I understand that probably that means that I should take it to get serviced, but I just wanted to know what the light means in general and can I drive around with the light on for a couple of days?
Anything you could give me would be awesome.
Thanks!

They are finally here i have been checking quite a lot at the website and I just saw they updated it to include the 2010 lancer models. The new features seem to be the same as the sportback version and some are different:
Standard taillights changed to black (Ralliart tailights)
Color multinformation display
Cover over cupholders in the front
Air dams (aka ground kit) which only came with GTS and ES Sport now standard
Shorter Antenna only 2 inches now
Auxillary jack is hidden behind carbon fiber and gearshift is also surrounded by carbon fiber
Emergency Brake is now leather which is standard
Leather seats with heating is an option if you go to build your vehicle youll see the new black leather
The ES model now has 10 spokes for the wheels instead of 5
ASC (Active Stability Control) comes standard now on all versions while before you had to purchase the touring package to get it
I JUST FOUND A LIST OF ALL THE CHANGES
2010 Lancer
