Just wondering how many people cashed in on that program. I had to jump on it. I gave them my old 1993 Ford Explorer Sport. It needed about $1500 in repairs and the trade in value was only $100. I opted for the GTS which only gave me the $3500 but that beats $100. What got me wondering is I just got a check from the dealership for $140 (over half of one payment) for the scrap value of my old Explorer. Didn't know if that was part of the program. I miss my Explorer a little bit. Had it for 7 years. I still need to name my Lancer.
Old Explorer (this picture was taken after a $100 detail, the hood was heavily oxidized when traded in)

New Lancer!

Pretty bad question haha but I don't like the fact that a Lancer can only do so much on a straight line... So I wanna take it to a track for Auto X or something. How well would it handle around corners?

The car starts but I have a question when you close the door after the ignition is off do the dome lights dim compared to when the door is open? Like after you get out and close your door do the lights dim a little but r still on? and then of course when you lock with the beeper the lights dim off. But mine dim a lil when i close the door after the ignition is off and i get out. Can someone check this on theres to make sure my battery isnt on the fritz because of the stupidy on my part for leavin the door open to begin with thanks in advance

Hi.
I have an 09 Lancer Es Sport, and I was wondering if there is a way for the Foglights to turn on with the DRL's.
I like my fogs on all the time, but don't like to turn the lights on, and then turn the fogs on separately. Is that possible?
If not, is there a way for my Fog's to be permanantly on w/ the my headlights. So the fogs come on with the headlights when I turn them on?
Thanks.

I plan on getting a lancer sometimes soon but with all the problems it has now, what if theres more? i mean.. what if something goes wrong with the air bags in case of an accident? I wouldn't want any delays or malfunctioning when someone decides to hit me.

I did a search and this question has not been answered. I have yet to change my windshield washer fluid cause it has not run out yet but does anyone know what type it is or it varies dealer by dealer. If it is official mitsubishi fluid does the dealer sell. Also for those of use like myself that just bought our cars does anyone know the temperture ranges on the the washer fluid. Sorry if this is in the wrong section its not interior or exterior and its not performence.
Since were talking about fluids
What brand oil is in our cars? Mitsubishi brand lol? or varies dealer by dealer? And is it synthetic?
The manual states nothing on this although power steering fluid, braking fluid, and coolant are all listed in the manual its only windshield washer that are not listed as a type

My dealer told me that there was no necessary break in period for a brand new 09 gts. Is this true? He said not to be worrid about giving it some good throttle pushes once in a while. what are teh long term effects for driving a new car hard, (i.e. once in a while wot, quick accels, and high rpms)

Well I just got done test driving the 2010 GTS & the Raliart sportbacks & here is what I think of them.......
My biggest gripes about the sportback is the fact that the taillights are just ugly. If the car had similar taillights to the other Lancers....then I would like it alot more.
The rear wiper is a nice touch, but should be a little bigger. It looks like it has the clearance for it, but it only clears a small section......
The rear doors is what really kills the deal for me. There must not be ANY sound deadening material inside the rear doors because when you close the door.....they sound sooooo
tinny....it makes the car sound sooo cheap! The wheels & tires are still the same as what's on the GTS models.....
The new center stack is a nice upgrade, but the 2 new opening/closing doors at the bottom under the HVAC controls are kinda useless. The openings are too small to really put anything in there. Even my LG EnV Touch sticks out almost 1/2 way.......The rear seats are a fixed position for the back. on some hatchback models the back seats that fold can have the same kind of adjustments as the drivers seat with the reclining seat back. These are either folded flat or they lock into 1 place when upright.....an oversight in my opinion. The hood on the GTS Sportback was super heavy! Almost 2x's as heavy as my GTS....it is probably from the big sheat of sound deadening material on the underside.....
Finally my biggest complaint was driving the Raliart. Once the boost kicks in....yeah it's got some pep to it, but the trans sux! Once you let off the gas it holds the rev's for about 3 seconds which got annoying real fast. It didn't matter if I had it set to normal or sport mode...it was still annoying! No way would I buy one without a 6 speed manual.....uh helloooooo Mitsu....are you listening???!!!!!!1 Noisy & I didn't like the tires that come with it. Yoko's that don't respond near as well as the Dunlops. Still same old rims.....again!
Oh....another thing that I forgot to mention.....the cup holder now has a cover that slides over it when not in use. You would think that this is a good thing right.....right? Except the cup holders aren't deep anymore. They almost cut off 1/2 the depth .......waste!
Now that the rants are out of the way.....here is what I liked about the new cars:
1st the inside of the sportbacks trunk area is BIG! The floor cover that covers the spare tire is height adjustable. You can either have it at the standard height where it is even with the rear seats (60%/40% split) being folded flat.....or you can lower the cover down like 5 or so inches for added room. Plus if you lift that cover it reveals the spare tire (mini) & it has some other cool cubbie holes. There is another cubbie hole on the passenger side that is great for hiding more goodies....but it is just plastic lined....anything that you put in there would rattle around. If you don't get the Sun & Sound PKG. you get another cubbie on the drivers side as well.
The new color dash is waaaaay nicer than the 08's. Much crisper & cleaner than what I have. The new center stack is nice as well. The HVAC controls have a chrome trim ring around each of the controls & the lower part of the dash where the big opening was now has 2 opening & closing doors that look nice, but don't offer much room once they are open at all. The traction control is nice.....Neither of the cars I drove had the Sun & Sound option.....so I couldn't try out the upgraded stereo....the 2.4 was o.k. The whole car was quite a bit quieter than my 2008 2.0. The better glass & the sound proofing does help & the 2.4 was quieter as well.
IDK if it is really any quicker than my 2.0. If so....it's got to be only slightly quicker....but not enough for me to really notice.
All in all......not enough for me to want to run out & trade mine in & get one.....that's for sure.
Maybe 2011 will have something better........
Like a 6 speed manual....HELLOOOOOO MITSU......are you listening!

Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2009, MSRP (17,640) Destination (720) and 1500 cash back according to the Mitsu website.
Had a 3500 clunker to trade in. Car also had 510miles b/c they said "the first owner couldn't afford the financing and payments?." Also Last ES on the lot and literally minutes before the "Cash for Clunkers" ended on Monday at 8pm. Also found previous owners CD in the car.
Out the door price was 15,200 (-3500 included) with 1.9% financing for 60months. What do you think?????
My first car and was pretty bad at negotiating and im feeling skeptical, normal i guess!!!! What phases me is that edmunds, yahoo, msn have the TMV prices around 16,500, so you minus the 3500...i shoulda gotten it for 13k right?
Also, is the car considered use, that 510 miles on makes me very uneasy. Also that square sticker on the window (on all new cars), the one that tells u the spec, mpg, price was missing. Im guessing the last owner removed it.

My car was running perfectly fine today. And I decided to get my oil changed while I had the free time. So I stopped by a Jiffy Lube I'd been to twice for this same car. (Both times were perfectly fine)
Well, I leave and the car is revving extremely loud. It's screaming just easing up to 20mph. I took it back and they claim nothing is wrong. With my work schedule, I don't have time to have the dealer take it in. Of course it doesn't help that you all can't see under my hood, but is it possible you guys could offer some possible solutions for me to try looking into? I'm sure I'm not the first victim of a poor oil change from Jiffy Lube.

Hi everyone,
I'm a proud new owner of a 2008 Lancer GTS with everything but Nav. My previous car was a 2007 Scion TC and before that a 2005 Infiniti G35 coupe. I got rid of the G35 because I wanted something more practicle....but the TC was not exactly what I needed.
I wanted something bigger, an auto and 4 doors. I can't believe you get all this car (GTS) for the price ($16,900), granted its rather slow but I don't care much about speed anymore. My TC was OK but the interior materials were cheap and not much of an interior, asthetically. My friend owns a Meineke and another auto shop and he says he hasn't seen many older Lancers and Zero new lancers in his shop getting repaired so I felt the quality of this car is solid.
I have just a couple of quetions, looked on FAQ but didn't see any answers.
1) Why does the MPG reset when the car sits for a while, with my G it would only reset when you reset it.
2)Can't remember the other question I had this second

Hey guys i'm new to this forum
I'm from Canada, British Columbia and on August 1st,2009 I went to a dealership and did all the paperwork to get the 2009 lancer. Luckily that day, they switched it to 0% interest rate for 60 months for financing.
Once the bank approved of my loan, they told me they don't have the white GTS in stock anywhere =(.
They just called me this afternoon and told me I have two options:
1. Take their silver or octane blue and they'll give me an extra 500$
2. Because they don't order 2009 anymore (and i really really want white) they will have to order 2010 and the price + interest rates will be different.
So I really don't know what to do and i'm not a big fan of silver or the octane blue =(
any opinions/suggestions?

Thanks for FINALLY approving me admin!!! Sheeesh (jk jk).
Wonderful forums btw I've been browsing for days on end. I have a few questions about my soon to be lancer.
1. It looks like Ill be buying around mid to late October...Looks like the new 2010s SHOULD be out by then? Does anyone know if there is a major MSRP increase?
2. Ive read that by law I can mod my car however I want but if something breaks and is linked to my mod - Warranties VOID. I dont plan on doing break, engine or even muffler mods I just want things like the front end painted, winds tinted and after market headunit + subs (should I be ok?) which brings me to my next question/s.
3. Does anyone know a 2DIN touch screen display that fits and installs easily into the lancer?
4. Does anyone know the legal limit in Alberta (canada eh) for window tints?
5. What does Mitsubishi's 19 year warranty really cover? I'm buying my first car brand new for the main reason of not putting ANY cash into repairs for the next while... Other then maintenance of course. We have Diamond packages here in Canada that you can buy addition warranties...are these needed?
I know its a ton of Questions I have been searching around and I didn't find too much information so I hope somebody's can help me out
best regards and awesome forums!!!

I am now the very proud owner of a 2009 Lancer GTS CVT with sun & sound and navigation. Had 22 miles on it when i got it. My dad said that if i was going to be stuck with car payments, that i should get a car with the gadgets i want. So i did go a bit overboard and got the navi. I am happy i did! I also got the 4-door scuff plates, alloy fuel door, and sunroof wind deflector. I payed 23,100 OTD, tax was 2 grand!!!!!!!!!! The cash for clunkers program gave me 3500 for my van, and I had 2 grand saved up. My parents pitched in 2 grand and said no more birthday or Christmas presents for the rest of my life. I will be paying them back for that monthly, in small amounts. So, all said and done, i have $15,000 left on it to pay.
I do not plan to modify it in any way, I am very happy with its current condition, though it is a bit slow from a dead stop, but i didn't buy it for speed. It is the Rotoglow metallic orange, at first i didn't like it but now i love it. Going from a very big red noticeable van to a small gray car would have been difficult, so i went with a noticeable orange car. Easier to find in parking lots.
I will post pictures soon when i get some good ones!! I was thinking about finding the factory HIDs because i herd that it is plug and play, but the current lights on it are 100 times better than anything i have seen. So i think i will keep it stock. Hopefully the monthly payment wont make me hate the car, i love it so far far!!

Ok,
So I don't know how many of you noticed, but the Lancers, atleast my 09 GTS, all come with a terribly wussy horn.
I think all I need to do is locate it and change it out, but does anyone know this for sure.
And if someone could post a pic of where the horn is located, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks so much!
(I would try to locate it just by having someone honk the horn, but I can't even stand the sound of it.........I would cringe, close my eyes and not be able to find it anyway!)

I got my 09 Lancer ES about a month ago and I was washing it the other day and I decided to pop the hood open and see what was under there since I haven't done that yet.... and I noticed that my coolant was low.... is that normal for a month old car? Should I take it back to the dealers and make them fill it up or should I just buy some and do it myself? And if I do it myself, do I just poor it in? I'm a newb with cars lol

I just got my 09 lancer gts for a month. I'm satisfied with everything except the acceleration is not so fast as a 2.4L car should have. Just wonder if you guys feel the same thing as me? It is said that the CVT can't afford very big torque, is it because of that the acceleration is limited by something for the transmission? Just guess....

So I searched all over and used the search tool here. For schedualed servicing do you have to go to The dealership. (not talking just the Ussual oil change, but the acctual Initial Servicing say after the 7000km mark)
I noticed on one of loonieg3's posts he goes to midas... I assume thats just for the Oil and air filter?
Also. Is it just me and my GTS or are the valves Loud. When its cool out before it warms up it almost sounds like a Diesel the way the Valves are tickin. Once I get'er To operating temp the sound goes away slightly, But when you get out of the car and its running there is a noticeable ticking.
I took it in to one of the dealers (Bank Street Mitsubishi, Ottawa, Ont) After I had made a 9 am appointment... I check in at 0830 always early. The reception guy at the service desk tells me it wont be long. 10 am rolls around and I ask what the hell happened with my appointment and why my car hasnt moved and noone even came out to look at it let alone start it. I wait more. at 1030 The guy who was behind the reception desk for the service center comes up to me and asks to go on a test drive with me...
So I entertain him with a test drive, Lectures me on How it will go away when it hits operating temp.. I told him I have to drive 179km to get to the Service shop/dealer and if it couldnt warm up by then that They can have the car back. He begins trying to tell me about how Oil breaks down and the noise will go away when I change the oil, They are Solid lifters and not hydrolic.. I said Ok. So you hear the sound then... He says yes and it will go away with the Oil change.. Then I told him I had the oil changed 2 days before the appointment. We parked back at the shop/dealership and with the windows up while sitting in the car, He turns and says oh yeah thats a quiet engine you wont need a Valve adjustment for well I dont know exactly when but its some far time with alot of km's..
I tried explaining to them I am not just hearing things that I am a Mechanic ( Although I am not familiar at all with a Mitsu... Yet) quit trying to **** me around and do the **** valve adjusment under the 3 yr / 20 000 km Adjustments Warrenty..
And no.. I got so frustrated as he kept trying to Tell me the breakdown process of Oil like a rehersed skit I had to leave.
Now that the rant is done.. Is it really just a loud engine with Ticky Valves? I know engines have alot of differant sounds. And yes its a heavy car with a small I-4 2.0. but i dont think the Valves are supposed to sound like one of the Tanks I work on.

Hey Everyone,
I hit a large raccoon and needless to say, the right side of my bumper cover is broken and cracked, fog light and all.
I want to upgrade to the RalliArt front bumper, but I need to know if it will work.

Or if I can find a nice body kit for the GTS, I may go that route....So if you know where to find a nice body kit with a full front bumper cover, post the URL here please.
Can someone please let me know or give me the name of the dealership that sponsors this forum so I can get ahold of them?
Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate it!

Hello i just got myself a 2009 Lancer ES and i keep trying to peel out with it with no success.
i have also noticed that there is a delay when you hit the gas and it does not pick up quick because of the new CVT transmission.
i have tried buying a "chip" from ebay but it was bullshit and i took it out because the check engine light came on.
i dont want to spend a whole lot money on it because im going to college and i need the money but something small that will make it peel out and cut the delayed pick up time.

Hey All,
I just noticed that my parking lights on my 08 GTS do not work. I am curious as to if there is a fuse that I am not aware of.
Regards,

Hey guys, it's almost time to get rid of my gas guzzler montero and moving on to a new car. I had my mind set on an is300, but the fact that I can get a mmore reliable, and somewhat better looking lancer for the same price just changed my mind. I am on the market for either an 08 or 09, and with a CVT tranny, since a 5 speed manual would kinda be a bother here in Illinois. I have been saving up for and modifications I can do to the car, and would like some tips and suggestions on what to get for it. Since my friends all have their riced out Mazda 6, Tibs, and Spec-V (oooo fancy....) sentra, I have decided to go with a more logical approach, but still have some taste in upgrading. The moment I get my hands on the keys, I am bringing it to my gf's dad's shop to get tints done and blacking out the center of the bumper. Now I know there are major debates about painting it, or using vinyl. So what is the final verdict? I can get it painted, no problem. And I can buy the vinyl kit, which is also no problem. I just want to know the best approach to this situation. And the next thing to do is to add something for it's performance and fuel economy. I have my mind set on the Injen CAI. I am not really looking for performance, since I do not believe in a dramatic hp gain from a bolt on. I am just looking for a less restrictive way for the car to breath. Here in Illinois, it only rains hard (and I mean HARD) like once every month in the summer. So would I be better off getting an sri or stick with the cai? Now my idea is to get a less restrictive way for the car to breath and for the car to fart

, so down the road I might as well get an exhaust. My friend's straight pipe-equipped mazda 6 is the laughing stock of the group, and I just find it funny haha. I just have a hard time finding an exhaust that is quiet, but still have a nice tone and much less restrictive than the stock one. What is the quietest exhaust that you guys could find? I had the idea of sticking a stock ralliart or evo dual exhaust on a gts, but I am not sure if that would work. Any help would be appreciated guys. Will be getting the car (in white

) before college starts! Thanks

I haven't driven a stick shift car in ages, and it's about time to refresh my memory. So I have a couple questions for you people out there.
1. When you shift from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd, and etc, do you have to carefully let go of the clutch before accelerating to a higher gear? Or can you just push the clutch, shift to lets say, 2nd, then just completely let go of the clutch and drive off?
2. When you are driving down the road, and you are going about 35mph at let's say 3rd gear and you want to slow down at a stop sign, do you start holding the clutch, let go of the gas, shift back to neutral, and start to apply brake?
3. I am not exactly familiar to downshifting. Last time I drove my friend's Tib, I was at 3rd gear and wanted to slow down, so I went down to 2nd right away and the car jerked and slowed down. What did I do wrong?

Alright here we go. I'm getting a Lancer soon, as a replacement for the 07 Cobalt I currently own. I've spent a bunch of money on my car, and it has a sound system in it, of course, and some rims (which, being the dumb 4 bolt pattern won't fit a lancer). I'll be getting an ES Sport model so I can have the ground effects and spoiler with the 4b11 engine, as well as the bluetooth. My questions are only these two. I'm looking for pictures of the "Front Black Out Kit" but I can't find any. I really like the way Wicked White looks on these Lancers, but with the black effects it looks much better. So if anyone has any pics could you maybe direct me to them? Also, right now I have 4 Infinity speakers in my Cobalt (two 6x9's and two 6.5"s), making for a total of 4 tweeters, 2 super tweeters, and of course, 4 mids, all powered by a 468w amp. Also there are 2 JBL 10" subs powered by a 380w Alpine amp. Needless to say, in a car that small, the bass HITS hard when its up, and I have a really balanced system. I was looking at the RF optional system, but I don't really need a sunroof, and a nav system and 6 CD changer isn't necessary either, especially not with an auxiliary input. But it seems a little underpowered as well. I'm not sure how hard its gonna hit with one amp powering 9 speakers all together, so opinions on this would be appreciated. While it may well be till next summer that I can actually get my Lancer, I'm doing research on all the cars I'm considering. Any and all help is appreciated! :-)

Well, I called my dealer to repair the chips and they said they wont do anything about.
So I planned to repair the chips myself with dr colorship and then install 3m film. I called another dealer (cause I don't wanna go to the first one anymore) to ask questions about the films and SURPRISE, they told my Mitsubishi isseud a new warranty for the chips near the back wheels/back doors.
They will sand all the paint, apply new one and put the 3m films for FREE.
So my car will be repaired soon!
Excellent!

Just wondering if anybody uses one. The one from my old Explorer that I traded in doesn't fit the Lancer. The car stays in the sun usually and I can't get the windows tented yet. I was hoping to find one with a Mitsubishi logo on it or something similar.

Hi. I recently bought a used 09 Lancer, and I'm paranoid about the paint that chips that are bound to come this this winter from the rock salt.
I was trying to find out some info on the 3M film.
Have any of you done it yourself?? If so, how hard was it? Do you need experience? Is it better off left to the pros?
How much did you pay for the film and installation? Or did you DIY?
What exactly do I ask for? The few places I went to, just wanted to put a clear coat on it.
Where do I find the film online? I only see skinny rolls of tape, like 6" X 20 Yards. The 20 yards is fine, but It would take me forever to cover my whole hood in 6" increments. Or do you usually just apply it to the front of the car, and not the entire hood?
I saw a kit on Ebay for like 100$, what do you think??
thanks for the help.

Hey Everyone,
Saw this at Wally World....
I am currently using the Mobil 1 0w30 in my wife's Lexus with great results. She is averaging about 29mpg. Before this, she was getting about 27mpg.....
I was trying to find the 0w20 in the 5 quart jug, but could only find single quarts...
Does anyone have experience with this oil? It is supposed to be their Advanced Fuel Economy Formula.
I think I am going to try it on my next oil change.

Hey Everyone,
I saw there was a Meet & Greet Set up in the main forum, but since I will be spending all my time in the Lancer forum, I felt it was better to put it in here. My name is Mica. I live in NW Illinois, in a tiny, little town.

I have been a huge Mopar fan forever, but with the recent lack in vehicles that look good coming out of Detroit via Chrysler, I decided to look elsewhere. My wife and I have both purchased new vehicles within the last 3 months. I purchased the Rotor Glow Metallic 2009 Lancer 2.4 GTS that you see at the bottom of the page and she bought a 2008 Lexus IS 250. Both are absolutely beautiful, but mine was a bit cheaper.

My first car was an 83 Buick Riviera, followed by a 90 Dodge Dynasty, then a 98 Chrysler Intrepid, followed by a 96 Dodge Neon that I had almost into the 13s in the 1/4 mile, naturally aspirated. My beast in the avatar is the car I sold about 3 months ago. It is a 96 Dodge Viper RT/10 with the removable hard top. It was my wedding gift, the day before my wedding, August 5, 2005. Did I mention that my wife is the most wonderful, beautiful woman in the world?

Regrettably, we sold the Viper 3 months ago to someone that will drive it much more than myself. My wife and I only put 3,000 miles on it in almost 3 years. I couldn't justify keeping insurance on it to drive it a bare minimum and with 2 beautiful boys and no back seat, it proved to be a great move on our part.
My car is the 2.4L, as I stated, and a 5 speed manual transmission. I love driving a manual. The manual is growing on my wife. I decided to go with the 2.4L for a few reasons. It is a bigger engine with almost the same mileage. I average about 30.5mpg right now with no upgrades/performance parts added as of yet. I drive mainly country roads to get to work, so maybe 5% of my driving is in the city. If I would learn to keep my foot out of the gas, I could (and have before on longer trips) easily get 34+mpg. I figured if they ever come out with a decent turbo, or a supercharger for the car, the 2.4L would put out more than the 2.0L simply based on engine size and starting horsepower. I also like that little bit of extra horsepower.
I think it has every option available, including navigation. I drive a lot, having put over 6,500 miles on my car in 3 months, so navigation is critical. And it helps me find ice cream or custard whenever I need it, which is quite often.
I am looking at first upgrading the air intake, exhaust, buying an underdrive pulley, then ???? Who knows......
I have been perusing these forums for a couple of weeks now and decided to finally take some good pics and let you all see the beast. I love the way the sun makes the Rotor Glow Metallic shine in different colors. It is beautiful. And before you ask why I picked "Orange" for my car, I will let you know. My 98 Intrepid started as Barney Purple. It wasn't actually Barney Purple, but that is what I called it. I worked in a body shop and painted it Prowler Yellow from DuPont. I took my 96 Neon and painted it in 2-tone with Kawasaki Green and Black. I like different....I like what most others don't like. I don't want my car to look like every other car in the world. That is the main reason, besides....I really like the Rotor Glow Metallic. It is me.
If anyone has any suggestions for intakes, exhausts, underdrive pulleys, or anything else that I can do pretty cheaply ($350 per mod or so...), I would greatly appreciate any help. I want a deep growl when I step on the gas, not a riceburner sound. I am steering toward MagnaFlow right now. Of course, I thought the Viper's Borla was a bit too quiet, given it had 450hp. So, please help me out and get me to modding this beauty.
Thanks so much and I look forward to chatting with everyone here!
Mica

Ok so within the month I installed angel eyes on my car. During the installation the installer muffed up my driver side headlight. I am needing to get a lense replacement but can only find the whole lense and housing together and the cheapest I have been able to find is $252. If anyone can help me out to get a killer deal it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.
