I have an '03 Eclipse RS with just under 19,000 miles on it. My Service Engine Soon light keeps coming on telling me that I have a misfire in cylinder 4. The car is driving really rough in 1st and 2nd gear (sputters and hesitates until about 30 mph).

I've replaced the plugs (made it worse, gapped at .044), then changed the wires. Looking to change coil next.

Has anyone else had this problem or can you tell me what else might be the problem? Has anyone had any problems with any particular plugs (platinum vs. copper or any brands)?

I'm not particularly brilliant at repairs and this really has me stumped so any advice or help would be great. THANK YOU!

Yea, there were definate drivability concerns. I replaced the ignition coil yesterday and it seems to be fixed. More hp and everything so I'm pretty sure that was the root of the problem.

Thanks for the info!

.....hm dont be surprised if your cylinder 2 coilpack missfires in a couple weeks. I had the same exact problem (I have a '01 RS) and it started with my cylinder 4. After I replaced that one a couple weeks later it was cylinder 2.

Luckily I know a place online that sells the coilpacks for about $65 each, as oppose to $110ea. at Autozone.

Thanks a lot for being right! My other coilpack just headed south this weekend. Wanna share the info on picking up that $65 pack? It'd be appreciated like you wouldn't believe!!!

Actually, i just had it checked and after replacing the plug, wires and coil... I'm still getting a misfire in Cylinder 4. Any suggestions of what else it may be????

so cylinder 2 and 4 definitely have the ignition coils on top of'em? My latest purchase of a 01 eclipse is having a misfire in cylinder 2. I replaced with NGK V power plugs and bosch wires, but I guess I need to swap out ignition coils?

My next guess what to replace distributor cap and rotor. I'm used to working on honda engines so this whole idea of having 2 ignition coils is kinda goofy,...hope this works.
