I have a 97 eclipse and was just checking recalls on the Mitsubishi site.

When I turn a corner and correct it, i hear a snap like sound. Could this possibly be a bad ball joint. How do recalls work; the recall below looks similar to the problem I'm having. Is it too late for the recall or how do they work. Any help would be appreciated

component: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT

Recall Date (Y/M):2000/12

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE RUBBER BOOTS ON THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINTS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION WERE DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY, DIRT AND WATER CAN INTRUDE. ALSO, MMC HAS ADDED THE POTENTIAL OF LEAKING MOISTURE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE BALL STUD TO CORRODE.

yeah just take it to the dealer and they'll take care of it for free. the lower ball joint, transfercase is on the recall list. since your doing it might as well have them do all th recalls.

But hold on. This recall was in 1998. I don't believe they fix this for free; i think there is an end period when they stop doing recalls for free. They might inspect it for free but idk?

yea the lower control arm is a good recall to get done...they just swap it out. That could be your problem, and No they don't charge you and they have no limit on time....as long as its an open recall.....they'll do it for free
