This is my first post in these forums... I bought a 2000 montero sport a couple weeks ago. I'm loving it so far, but I noticed an oil leak the day after I bought it. I knew the Cam seal gasket was a common problem when looking at the truck, but couldn't find it while looking/test driving. I noticed it a day after buying it. I guess the bubble gum fell off!
I'm planning on changing the gasket myself, I can't pay the 250-300 the shop quoted me at. This is the first car I've owned in 4.5 years. I have done some light work on cars before. I changed the valve cover gasket on my 4 cylinder Intergra... but I had the help of a hynes manual(that isn't made for a 2000 montero sport.) and haven't done much work on cars since. I have all the obvious tools + torque wrench.
My questions are, do you think it's out of line for me to do this repair, and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Specifically what order to remove replace various parts, and what # torque
the valve cover should receive.
Thank you for any replies
Jason Byl
